The Qingming Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. It is believed to have a history of about 2,500 years. The Qingming Festival usually falls on April 4 or 5. It falls on April 4 this year. On April 3, a middle school in Suzhou held a special activity for students—a hike to Suzhou Martyrs’ Cemetery (苏州烈士陵园). At 6:30 in the morning, more than 2,000 teachers and students set off from the starting point. They hiked for 20 kilometers until they reached Suzhou Martyrs’ Cemetery. When they arrived there, they swept tombs and offered flowers to pay respects to the revolutionary martyrs (革命烈士).
Starting in 1995, the 20-kilometer hike is a traditional ideological and political class (思政课) of the school. “We hope students can not only learn about the revolutionary martyrs from books, but also experience and touch history on the spot (实地),” the school’s headmaster said.

Scientists in Shanghai are developing a robot “guide dog” that could help blind people. The robot is able to tell the environment. It can also read traffic lights which traditional guide dogs cannot. The robot uses AI to hear voices. It is able to listen to and speak with a blind owner.
The robot dog is described as about the size of an English bulldog but a little wider than a real dog. It has six legs instead of four because the other two legs make it less likely to fall down and its movements smoother. Professor (教授) Gao Feng, the head of the research team said, “When three legs are lifted, there are still three legs. It is the strongest shape.”
It is said that there are just over 400 traditional guide dogs in China for nearly 20 million blind people. So robot guide dogs are badly needed. However, they cost a lot. “It’s a bit like cars. I can make a large number of robot dogs in the same way as cars, so they will become more affordable,” Gao said. He thinks there could be a large market for his robot dogs. “There might be tens of millions of people in the world who need guide dogs,” he added.
18. What can the robot dog do?
A. It can take photos for the blind. B. It can communicate with the blind.
C. It can protect the environment. D. It can change traffic light colors.

The captain stood proudly on the high walls of Troy (特洛伊) looking at the empty beach where the Greek (希腊) ships had once been. The morning sun shone on the sea, and a cool wind carried the taste of salt and success. “After ten long years, they’ve finally given up!” the captain said, raising his sword (剑) high. The Trojans below cheered and jumped, “We’ve won! The Greeks are gone!”
Just then, an old soldier (士兵) named Hector narrowed his eyes and pointed towards the beach. “Captain, look! They left something behind—a giant wooden horse!” The captain laughed, “Those foolish Greeks! They built it but couldn’t even take it home!” He turned to his soldiers. “Bring it inside! Let it stand in our city as a symbol of our success!”
Some of the soldiers were not sure, “what if it’s a trick? The Greeks are cunning (狡猾的).” The captain shouted, “Shut up! After ten years of fighting, they’ve failed. This horse is our prize!” He asked Trojans to pull the giant horse through the gates with ropes.
That night, the city held a big celebration. Torches lit up the square as people danced and sang around the wooden horse. “To the stupid Greeks!” a drunk soldier sang and raised his cup. “They spent years building this horse, only to leave it behind! I haven’t laughed like this since my childhood!” the captain laughed and said.
As the party died down, the Trojans locked all the gates of the city and then all went to sleep.
At midnight, the square fell into silence. A hidden door on the horse’s belly (腹部) suddenly opened, and a Greek soldier came out. Then armed Greek soldiers went out one by one, they moved quickly and quietly in the darkness. Within minutes, the Greeks unlocked the gates, flooding the city.
Early in the morning, Troy was in big fire. The Greeks, who had failed for ten years, had won with a single trick. The captain’s joy turned to fear as he finally got to know: the horse was never a gift—it was a trap, and the “gift” had destroyed (摧毁) them.
22. Why did the Trojans bring the wooden horse into the city?
A. Because the Greeks asked them to keep it safe.
B. Because they believed it was a gift from the gods.
C. Because they wanted to burn it to celebrate success.
D. Because they thought it was a prize of their success.
23. How did the Greeks finally won after 10 years?
A. By attacking the city with a stronger army. B. By hiding soldiers inside the wooden horse.
C. By making a peace agreement with the Trojans. D. By waiting for the Trojans to give up.
24. What did the Trojans do during the celebration?
A. They prepared for another war. B. They thanked the Greeks for leaving.

When I was a little kid, I thought my dad knew everything. I would ask him all kinds of questions, like how the moon worked or how to play a model plane. He always had the answer. During my teenage years, he taught me useful skills, like how to drive a car, and simple car care, such as checking the tire (轮胎).
As I got older, I moved out on my own. I often called him when something in my flat went wrong, like the toilet, the light, the air-conditioner (空调)...However, after getting married, my husband knew a great deal about fixing household problems. At other times, the Internet became a quick helper. So, I called my dad less and our calls were really short. I don’t know when it happened, but our phone calls became just six words. Me: “Hi, Dad.” Him: “Hi, sweets. Here’s Mom.” Because I still needed mum for help, like asking advice for looking after my sick children or cooking tastier chicken soup.
Last summer, when our house was being redecorated, we lived with my parents for a while. Dad asked me to help him in rebuilding the ceiling of the attic (阁楼). As we worked, I was amazed by his skills. How could he be so skillful at this job? When I asked him, he said he’d done this during a college summer. I’d thought I knew all about him, but I was wrong.
I suddenly understood that I used to keep asking mum and dad wrong questions all along. Now, I talk to them because I truly want to, not just out of need.
