Victoria Herrmann didn’t always care about cultural heritage. Six years ago, the climate advocate thought it was just a phrase. But a talk with Peter Taliva’a in American Samoa changed her mind. Peter told her how rising sea levels were killing taro plants — central to local culture and ceremonies. This opened Herrmann’s eyes to the link between climate change and cultural loss.
In 2016, Herrmann started “America’s Eroding Edges”, interviewing 350+ local leaders. She found climate change wasn’t just damaging buildings — it was harming daily life: foods, crops, and sacred spaces. “Climate change is about losing what makes us who we are,” she says.
Now her new project, “Preserving Legacies”, helps global heritage sites fight climate threats. One in six cultural sites is at risk — like Pakistan’s Mohenjo Daro flooded this year. Herrmann’s team creates detailed climate models for each site and trains locals to make adaptation plans.
Take the Ifugao Rice Terraces in the Philippines for example. Herrmann’s team worked with locals to map out values of the site. They’ll do the same in Petra, Jordan next month. “We need community trust,” she says. Artists will document the process to share stories worldwide.
Herrmann hopes to expand the project to hundreds of sites. “Every degree we reduce climate change can save a legacy,” she says. “We must hold loss and hope together.”
4. What inspired Herrmann to focus on cultural heritage?
A. Her work as a National Geographic Explorer. B. A conversation with a community leader.
C. Floods in Pakistan damaging ancient ruins. D. Her grandfather’s experience as a survivor.
5. What is the goal of “Preserving Legacies”?
A. To build sea walls for heritage sites. B. To create global climate change models.
C. To protect cultural sites from climate impacts. D. To train artists to document heritage sites.
6. What does Herrmann emphasize in her project?
A. Community-led cooperation. B. Funding from international organizations.
C. Fast action to stop greenhouse gases. D. Using big data without local input.
7. Which word best describes Herrmann’s attitude towards the project?
A. Pessimistic. B. Hopeful. C. Doubtful. D. Uncaring.
【答案】4. B 5. C 6. A 7. B

Obesity and diabetes (糖尿病) are affecting more young people, with many sharing their experiences of being diagnosed with diabetes at a young age on social media. The hashtag “diabetes affecting young people” has been viewed over 46 million times on Sina Weibo.
Dr. Guo Xiaohui, a senior endocrinologist, said that 20 years ago, none of her diabetic patients were under 30, but now about 20% are. Dr. Yao Qiyuan from a hospital’s obesity department noted there are diabetes patients in middle or even primary school, some of whom are obese and have high blood pressure. It’s surprising that a 12-year-old child can have blood sugar at 20 mmol/L and blood pressure at 200 mmHg.
It’s known that obesity is a major cause of diabetes and heart diseases. A 2020 report showed about 10% of children under 6 and 20% of those aged 6-17 are obese. Dr. Xie Zhuangli explained that young people with chronic diseases like diabetes face a higher risk of complications. For example, diabetes complications (并发症) usually appear 5-10 years after diagnosis, so young patients have more time to develop them, which can affect multiple organs, cause kidney problems, blindness, or even amputation, bringing serious impacts on their lives and families.
Experts say the rise in young diabetics is due to oily and sugary diets, unhealthy daily routines, and lack of knowledge about chronic diseases. Many young people think such diseases only affect the elderly and seek treatment only after severe complications occur. Dr. Yao suggested enhancing health education for teenagers, monitoring their diets, and ensuring enough time for sports.
8. What does the data from Dr. Guo Xiaohui show?
A. There were no diabetic patients 20 years ago.
B. The number of young diabetic patients has increased.
C. Most diabetic patients are now under 30.
D 20% of people under 30 have diabetes.
9. Why do young people with diabetes have a higher risk of complications?
A. They have more serious symptoms at the beginning.
B. Complications appear earlier in young people.
C. They have a longer time to develop complications after diagnosis.
D. They don’t take medicine on time.
10. Which is NOT a reason for the young diabetics mentioned in the passage?
A. Unhealthy eating habits. B. Lack of exercise.
C. Unhealthy daily schedules. D. Lack of knowledge about chronic diseases.
11. What is Dr. Yao’s suggestion to solve the problem?
A. Controlling the production of sugary drinks.
B. Encouraging young people to drink more water.
C. Providing more health education for teenagers.
D. Making laws to limit young people’s use of social media.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. B 11. C

Traditional crafts are connecting heritage with modern fashion, creating a mixture of old and new. Xiong Songtao, a master of enamel craft (搪瓷工艺) , has used the Chinese cloisonne (景泰蓝) technique, an intangible cultural heritage to make high-precision watch dials. His family brand, Xiong’s Enamel, has gained international fame through a partnership with Spanish luxury brand Loewe. For the Chinese Year of the Snake, they created cloisonne nest bags with snake heads and lotus patterns, as well as necklaces with snake, monkey, and cloud themes.
This collaboration (合作) shows a growing trend that international luxury brands are turning to China’s craft heritage to enter the Chinese market. On June 14, 2025, China celebrated Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, highlighting the rising importance of intangible heritage. Such partnerships bring synergy which helps brands gain cultural depth while promoting traditional crafts.
Loewe isn’t alone. Italian brand Fendi worked with Yi ethnic artisans on a bag with traditional embroidery, and French brand Dior used ronghua, a Tang Dynasty craft, in its designs. Professor Wei Xiang notes that China’s large market drives these cultural collaborations.
Young Chinese consumers, especially Gen Z, those born between the mid-1990s and the early 2000s, are key. They prefer experiences and support homegrown brands, a trend called “guochao”. Xiong says their cloisonne pieces for Loewe meet strict standards, using wires as thin as 0. 04mm. “Our craft is excellent, our brand is rising, and China is stronger,” he says, summing up the trend.
12. What did Loewe and Xiong’s Enamel create for the Year of the Snake?
A. High-end watch dials with cloisonne. B. Cloisonne nest bags and necklaces.
C. Monochrome ceramic-inspired bags. D. Embroidery bags with silverwork.
13. The underlined word “synergy” in Paragraph 2 probably means _________.
A. mutual benefit B. competition C. challenge D. experiment
14. What can we infer about Gen Z consumers from the text?
A. They focus more on material goods. B. They prefer foreign luxury brands.
C. They support traditional Chinese culture. D. They dislike international collaborations.
15. What is the main idea of the text?
A. The history of Chinese cloisonne technique. B. International brands’ success in China.
C. Young consumers’ love for fashion. D. Traditional crafts blending with modern fashion.

Steps to Create a New Chapter in Your Life
Turning your life around can be easy if you truly believe in yourself. After all, you only have yourself in this world. So turn the pages of your life and move on from every struggle. I changed my life for the better, and now it’s your turn. All of it starts with a secret I took decades to learn. ____16____ Here’s how to overcome the struggles you face.
Draw A Line Mentally
Life throws problems your way, and you need mental preparation. You might repeat the same mistakes or stay in toxic situations. Drawing a mental line helps mark future decisions: past experiences are part of the problem, and what comes next is part of the solution. ____17____ Use this “page break” to gain courage, heal, and leave guilt behind. The secret is to never stop trying — quitting means stagnation.
____18____
Many of us try to solve problems alone, leading to self-sabotage (自我挫败) . To escape, involve others: family or close friends who uplift you. Seek those who’ve overcome similar struggles — they understand your hardships. Learn from their patterns: some plan solutions, while others live them. Choose the latter.
Try Everything In Your Hands
You can’t move on until you’ve tried all options. Sometimes it feels like nothing works, but giving up is easy — persisting is hard but worthwhile. Avoid generic solutions (pills, counseling, etc. ) that drain you. ____19____ Test unconventional approaches; they might surprise you.
Let Go Of Your Past
To move on, release past guilt and resentment (怨恨) . Negative feelings are counterproductive, even if you justify them. Forgive those who hurt you and seek understanding.
____20____ Forgive yourself too — you did your best, and mistakes are human. Look to the future with a gentle tone.
A. Learn From Others.
B. Focus on What You Can Control.
C. The key is patience: solutions come when you least expect them.
D. It’s easier to forgive others than to forgive ourselves, but both are necessary.
E. Treat these experiences as lessons, not hurdles, to avoid repeating mistakes.
F. Instead, think outside the box and try solutions you’ve never considered.
G. This secret lies in four actionable steps that transformed my life.

故选A。
19题详解】

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Dolly was my 9-year-old sister. She was mother’s favourite, always doing what she was told and never placing a foot wrong. Sometimes I didn’t like her. But she was my younger sister. I couldn’t do anything about it. And on the whole she wasn’t that bad.
Two weeks ago, on her birthday, I gave her a goldfish as a present. She loved it, named it Peppy and watched it swim freely in the glass container every day after school. She really enjoyed the delight the little angel brought. But recently I found the goldfish a little listless, staying at the bottom of the container most of the time.
One day after lunch, Dolly looked up at Mum and said,“Mum, I want to go to the lake. We go there on Sundays.”
“We can’t go today, dear. I have something else to do.” Mother said as she walked towards her and took the bowl away. Dolly looked a little unhappy, with eyebrows frowned.
“Shama,” Suddenly, Dolly whispered to me, leaning as close to me as her small frame would allow her while still sitting on the chair. “Would you come with me?”
I felt hesitant, but her unfamiliar stubbornness made me curious. What did she want to do at the lake? Still for the red fish? There was red fish in the lake. She had seen some coming to the shore every Sunday.
“Are you sure? Mom will be mad if we get caught.”
“We’ll come back in time before mom knows it.” Dolly gave a mischievous(调皮的) smile and slid out of her chair. I followed her out of the kitchen and came to the front door. Luckily, it didn’t lock. But as soon as we got ready to force out of the door, Dolly turned back and ran into the house again. I couldn’t shout out her name for fear that Mum could hear me but waited nervously.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A moment later she came back, holding something in her hand.

Half an hour later, we arrived at the lake.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
A moment later she came back, holding something in her hand. It was the goldfish bowl. Dolly’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she held the bowl tightly. “Peppy is going to have a new home!” she exclaimed joyfully. The goldfish swam lazily inside, but Dolly seemed convinced it would thrive in the lake. So she, accompanied by me, walked to the lake decidedly.
Half an hour later, we arrived at the lake. Dolly carefully carried the bowl to the shore and set it down. She scooped up some water from the lake and gently poured it into the bowl. Then, with a determined look, she tilted the bowl, allowing the little goldfish to swim into its new freedom. Peppy darted off, joining the other fish in the lake. Dolly and I watched silently, smiling, as we knew we had given Peppy a chance to live its best life.

B. Hopeful. C. Doubtful. D. Uncaring.
C
D. 20% of people under 30 have diabetes.

A. High-end watch dials with cloisonne. B. Cloisonne nest bags and necklaces.

13. The underlined word “synergy” in Paragraph 2 probably means _________.
