Physical activity is important and we often plan to do it. However, we don’t often think about making time to exercise as a family. While we find time for family games or movie nights, we often forget family sports. Family exercise may seem silly, but there are many benefits (益处).
Form Lifelong Habits
By spending family time on a physical activity together, you encourage (鼓励) your children to exercise and build lifelong habits. When children see physical activities as an enjoyable thing to do together, they may keep family exercise as a family-time tradition as they grow up.
________
Children get more life skills at home than they do anywhere else. Teamwork is taught and encouraged in sports. By exercising together, you’re encouraging teamwork and working together to reach a common goal, which helps teach the importance of goal setting as a team.
Bring Encouragement
Parents are great encouragers in education and sports. You can give your children encouragement when doing family sports. Studies show that family encouragement influences (影响) children’s mental health in a good way. Good family bonding (联结) with family encouragement builds confidence (自信) in children.
It may be all well and good to think about exercising together as a family, but it may be difficult to get started. Here is some advice for you.
● Take turns on who gets to choose the physical activity. Maybe you enjoy traditional exercise while your child wants to dance. On your exercising day, encourage your child to follow along. Then allow your child to choose the next family physical activity.
● Staying safe is always something important to think about for not only children but parents as well. Choose an activity with your child’s abilities in mind. If some of your family members are not good at running, try to slow down or have them ride a bike along.

“Sorry, man,” Leon tried to be kind. “Everyone has a talent for something,” he told Edward. “Basketball just isn’t your thing, like math isn’t mine.” Edward was always good at math and could solve many difficult problems.

Most young boys like spending time on things like video games, superhero movies and sports, but Ken, a 9-year-old boy from the Philippines, is spending his free time trying to start an animal shelter (收容所) for at-risk dogs.
In February, photos of Ken feeding dogs on the street became famous over the Internet and immediately many people wanted to help. “I feel sorry for the dogs with no owners while other dogs around the world are being pampered (宠养),” Ken answered when asked by a reporter from Pet360 about his choice. “It really wasn’t fair. And they are really thin.”
When Ken began feeding the dogs which had health problems, they would not let the boy come close. But after several feedings, the dogs warmed up to Ken and allowed the boy to help them. When animal lovers found out what Ken was doing, donations (捐赠) were given, and Ken and his father were able to start a public animal shelter called Happy Animals Club. The donations helped three dogs, Blackie, Brownie and White Puppy, receive high-quality canned food and medicine. After two months with Ken at Happy Animals Club, the dogs look like completely different animals and will be adopted (领养) soon.
In May, Ken and his father rent a parking lot, where Ken hopes to build a no-kill animal shelter to help more dogs in need. “I want the dogs to have a home, where they can have shelter, eat and have fun,” says Ken.

Family exercise can be both fun and a good chance for bonding. Remember to always choose the activity as a family and stay safe.

Cars make our lives more convenient. But they can also be a problem. For example, fossil fuel (化石燃料) cars mainly cause air pollution.
To improve the environment, many countries are developing EVs, electric vehicles (电动汽车). Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world’s largest EV market.
Last year, over 40 percent of the 753,000 EVs sold in the world were sold in China, more than twice the number of cars sold in the United States. “Filling up a fossil fuel car with gas is more expensive than charging an electric car,” said Wu Hao, who bought an electric car this year.
However, there are still some problems. It can be hard to find charging piles (充电桩) and the cars can’t go far before needing to be recharged.
Some of these problems are being solved. In 2014, China had 31,000 charging piles. Now China has the world’s largest EVs charging network, with more than 167,000 charging piles in total.
Developing EVs is one of many efforts that China has made to cut down pressure on its environment after the government promised to stop the increase in the emission (排放) of carbon dioxide by 2030.
