All the Light We Cannot See is about a blind girl named Marie-Laure,who lives in Paris,France,in the 1930s.
When the Nazis invade in 1940,she and her father are forced to leave the city. They escape to a countryside town
to hide with Marie-Laure's great uncle,Etierine. After several months,Marie-Laure's father gets arrested. She
continues to live with Etienne, and they start passing on secret signals to aid the French Resistance movement.
Werner Pfennig is a German orphan with a hobby of listening to science and music programs on an old radio.
:
Developing a talent for fixing radios,he is later hired by the Nazis to help them track enemy radio signals during
the war.One day,he picks up a signal that is coming from Etienne's home in France.
O
Anyway,Marie-Laure and Werner meet and develop a strong relationship. Can these poor souls find a way to
escape this horrible war together?
Anthony Doerr is an American author from Cleveland,Ohio.Critics have praised Doerr's writing for his
short, sharp sentences and attention to detail. All the Light We Cannot See is his second novel, which was
☑
published in 2014.It quickly became a New York Times best-seller and won a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
:
The amazing novel gives readers a look at the ugly face of war.Throughout the book,we see how war can
destroy people's lives in the blink()of an eye.Characters such as Etienne and Marie-Laure's father disappear
in an instant and are never heard from again. However, war is also shown to bring out the best in people. The
characters who survive must show great courage and strength when they face challenges.
Another important idea is the importance of science and technology.Doerr suggests that technologies, such
as the radio, are helpful to society if they are used with good intentions. However,if technologies fall into the
hands of evil(邪恶),they can cause great destruction.
24.How does Marie-Laure and Etienne help fight against Nazis?
A.By providing information.
B.By joining French army.
迸
C.By tracking radio signals.
D.By making their life public.
25.Anthony Doerr's writings are highly thought of because
A.they are short in length
B.they are full of interesting details
C.he is a prize winner
D.he is economical with words
26.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.Science and technology should be valued.
B.War destroys everything on its way.
C.Technology is a double-edge sword.
D.Technology plays a key role in war.
27.In which section of a magazine is the passage most likely to be seen?
A.Great Writers.
B.Book Club.
C.Everyday Hero.
D.Hit Movies.

crews who visited the moon's surface-moon dust covered their suits, worked their way into engines and
electronics, and even ruined a few of their extremely expensive spacesuits.
These are all serious issues to consider ahead of NASA'S planned return to the moon's surface in 2025,but a
team of college undergraduates at Washington State University just developed a solution to moon dust-spraying
松
liquid nitrogen (onto moon dust. The team developed a new spray that takes advantage of the Leidenfrost
effect.Named after its discoverer,an 18th-century German doctor Johann Gottlob Leidenfrost,it occurs when a
liquid comes into close contact with a significantly hotter surface, causing it to quickly form a protective layer of
vapor()that briefly keeps it from evaporating, such as when water forms into drops and runs across a very
hot frying nan.The same principle works similarly in space. In this case,a liquid nitrogen spray(typically around
-320F)comes into contact with a surface's relatively warmer lunar dust coating, causing the particles to turn into

spacesuits. They then sprayed it with liquid nitrogen in a normal atmospheric condition as well as the
circumstances similar to outer space. Not only did the liquid nitrogen spray perform better in the latter

circumstances, but also it only resulted in minimal damage to the spacesuit material. In past lunar missions,
astronauts'specialized brushes for the moon dust task often caused damage to spacesuits after a single use.In
:
comparison, the liquid nitrogen spray took 75 uses before similar issues occurred.
Going forward, the team hopes to further research the complexity that makes the cleaning process so effective,
as well as secure funding to construct testing rooms more closely resembling the lunar surface's gravity. With any
luck, maybe a can of their Moon-Dust-Gone will be aboard a future Artemis mission, ready to help astronauts
avoid one of the lunar surface's annoying things.
○
28.Why does the author mention"Apollo"in the first paragraph?
A.To prove moon dust is a real headache
B.To compare past and present moon programs.
C.To show the achievements in moon exploration
D.To offer readers insights into the Apollo program.
29.What does the underlined word"particles"in Paragraph 2 refer to?
:
A.Liquid waste.
B.Moon dust.
C.Nitrogen spray.
D.Protective
coating.
30.What did the research team find about their spray in Paragraph 3?
O
O
A.It belonged to single-use items for astronauts.
B.It performed better in normal atmospheric conditions.
C.It increased the strength of the material of spacesuits.
D.It protected spacesuits better compared with the brush.

A.Test subjects.
B.Complex lunar surface.
C.Other applications.
D.Reasons for efficient cleaning.

:
What's going on?The generator you're using may have been "poisoned".What does this mean?
:
Text-to-image generators work by being trained on large datasets that include millions or billions of images. Some
:
of the generators have been trained by indiscriminately scraping online images, many of which may be under
copyright. This has led to many copyright infringement (cases where artists have accused big tech
companies of stealing and profiting from their work.
:
This is also where the idea of"poison"comes in.Researchers who want to empower individual artists have

recently created a tool named"Nightshade"to fight back against unauthorised image scraping. The tool works by
slightly altering an image's pixels (in a way that confuses the computer vision system but leaves the image
unaltered to a human's eyes.If an organization then scrapes one of these images to train a future al model, its data
pool becomes "poisoned".This can result in mistaken learning, which makes the generator return unintended
results. As in our earlier example,a balloon might become an egg.
The higher the number of"poisoned images in the training data, the greater the impact.Because of how
generative AI works,the damage from"poisoned"images also affects related prompt keywords.For example,if a
"poisoned image of a Picasso work is used in training data, prompt results for masterpieces from other artists can
also be affected.
Possibly, tools like Nightshade can be abused by some users to intentionally upload "poisonedimages in
order to confuse AI generators. But the Nightshade's developer hopes the tool will make big tech companies more
respectful of copyright. It does challenge a common belief among computer scientists that data found online can
be used for any purpose they see fit.
Human rights activists, for example, have been concerned for some time about the indiscriminate use of
machine vision in wider society. This concern is particularly serious concerning facial recognition. There is a clear
connection between facial recognition cases and data poisoning,as both relate to larger questions around
technological governance. It may be better to see data poisoning as an innovative solution to the denial of some
fundamental human rights.
32.The underlined word"scraping"(para.2)is closest in meaning to_
A.facilitating
B.collecting
C.damaging
D.polishing
33.According to the passage, adding poisoned data might
A.increase the accuracy of returned information
B.cause users to forget the prompt key words
C.interfere with the training of generative AI
D.discriminate against great masterpieces
34.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A.Data poisoning is somehow justified to direct attention to human rights.
B.Computer scientists has learned to respect the copyright of most artists.
C.Nightshade is being abused by human rights activists to recognize faces.
D.The issue of technological governance has aroused the lawyers'interest.
35.Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?
A.Data Poisoning:Government Empowering Citizens to Protect Themselves
B.Data Poisoning:Addressing Facial Recognition Issues Among Artists
C.Data Poisoning:Risks and Rewards of Generative AI Data Training

I've always disliked getting up in winter. As a child,I would drag myself out of bed,my eyes half-closed,and
watch my school uniform warming on the radiator.36It's too dark, and I am always half-asleep.
37 Most of them are fun,but few really change my life in the long run.Sunrise alarm clocks,
however, are different. They've become a fundamental part of my morning routine. My top picks, the Lumie
Bodyclock Spark 100 and Philips SmartSleep, have greatly benefited me.I'm waking up every day feeling more
energetic and mentally sharper.
Essentially, sunrise alarm clocks are a combination of alarm clock and light treatment device that shines with
increasing brightness as your wake-up time approaches. The light interacts with our natural sleep-wake cycle,
much as the sun does when it rises.38
Sunrise alarm clocks also promote healthier sleep habits. In our tech-driven world, waking up often means
immediately checking our phones. An important strength of sunrise alarm clocks is that your morning wake-up no
longer involves your phone.Stopping a smartphone alarm means your day begins with eyes on-screen.
39 But with these clocks, you can start the day with a clearer mind and more concentration.
Sleep is personal, and no single device fits everyone. But for me,sunrise alarm clocks have been a
game-changer.They're affordable, with quality models available for under f30.40 After all, some
morning people are made,not born.
A.They prove to fall into this unique category.
B.Interested in tech,I often test fascinating devices.
C.Therefore,we wake up biologically prepared for the day.
D.The path to endless screen time is just a fingerprint away.
E.These days,I set multiple alarms to ensure I'm woken up
F.If you are struggling with dark mornings,it's worth a shot
G.All of the sunrise alarm clocks I've tested have their strengths.

“I’d like you to write about the outdoor adventure you enjoyed most,” she said. I froze, then words poured out like a river breaking its dam. I described discovering a hidden cave last summer—how I squeezed through narrow rocks, heart pounding as my flashlight revealed glittering quartz walls. When a bear suddenly blocked the exit, I crouched motionless for hours until it left. Miss Cook listened intently, her stern expression softening. “That’s vivid storytelling,” she remarked. “Now rewrite it with proper grammar—your homework.” Reluctantly, I began writing, surprised by how easily the memories flowed onto paper.
Gradually, I found myself falling in love with school learning. The next week, Miss Cook displayed my cave story on the bulletin board. Classmates asked about Tennessee’s wildlife, and for the first time, I eagerly researched bear habitats for science class. When she linked geometry to calculating cave depths, math felt useful. I still daydreamed of mountains, but now books became maps to understand them. Years later, as a park ranger educating visitors, I often recall Miss Cook—who bridged my two worlds by first honoring what I loved.

All the Light We Cannot See is about a blind girl named Marie-Laure, who lives in Paris, France, in the 1930s. When the Nazis invade in 1940, she and her father are forced to leave the city. They escape to a countryside town to hide with Marie-Laure’s great uncle, Etierine. After several months, Marie-Laure’s father gets arrested. She continues to live with Etienne, and they start passing on secret signals to aid the French Resistance movement.
Werner Pfennig is a German orphan with a hobby of listening to science and music programs on an old radio. Developing a talent for fixing radios, he is later hired by the Nazis to help them track enemy radio signals during the war. One day, he picks up a signal that is coming from Etienne’s home in France.
Anyway, Marie-Laure and Werner meet and develop a strong relationship. Can these poor souls find a way to escape this horrible war together?
Anthony Doerr is an American author from Cleveland, Ohio. Critics have praised Doerr’s writing for his short, sharp sentences and attention to detail. All the Light We Cannot See is his second novel, which was published in 2014. It quickly became a New York Times best-seller and won a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
The amazing novel gives readers a look at the ugly face of war. Throughout the book, we see how war can destroy people’s lives in the blink (眨眼) of an eye. Characters such as Etienne and Marie-Laure’s father disappear in an instant and are never heard from again. However, war is also shown to bring out the best in people. The characters who survive must show great courage and strength when they face challenges.
Another important idea is the importance of science and technology. Doerr suggests that technologies, such as the radio, are helpful to society if they are used with good intentions. However, if technologies fall into the hands of evil (邪恶), they can cause great destruction.
24. How does Marie-Laure and Etienne help fight against Nazis?
A. By providing information. B. By joining French army.
C. By tracking radio signals. D. By making their life public.
25. Anthony Doerr’s writings are highly thought of because .
A. they are short in length B. they are full of interesting details
C. he is a prize winner D. he is economical with words
26. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Science and technology should be valued. B. War destroys everything on its way.
C. Technology is a double-edge sword. D. Technology plays a key role in war.
27. In which section of a magazine is the passage most likely to be seen?

Moon dust is the absolute worst. Not only does electrostatics (静电) cause it to stick to virtually everything, but it also has the consistency and feel of finely ground fiberglass. It was a genuine problem for the six Apollo crews who visited the moon’s surface — moon dust covered their suits, worked their way into engines and electronics, and even ruined a few of their extremely expensive spacesuits.
These are all serious issues to consider ahead of NASA’S planned return to the moon’s surface in 2025, but a team of college undergraduates at Washington State University just developed a solution to moon dust — spraying liquid nitrogen (氮) onto moon dust. The team developed a new spray that takes advantage of the Leidenfrost effect. Named after its discoverer, an 18th-century German doctor Johann Gottlob Leidenfrost, it occurs when a liquid comes into close contact with a significantly hotter surface, causing it to quickly form a protective layer of vapor (蒸汽) that briefly keeps it from evaporating, such as when water forms into drops and runs across a very hot frying nan. The same principle works similarly in space. In this case, a liquid nitrogen spray (typically around -320℉) comes into contact with a surface’s relatively warmer lunar dust coating, causing the particles to turn into things like drops and float away on the nitrogen vapors.
To test their spray, the research team first dressed a Barbie doll wrapped with a material used to make spacesuits. They then sprayed it with liquid nitrogen in a normal atmospheric condition as well as the circumstances similar to outer space. Not only did the liquid nitrogen spray perform better in the latter circumstances, but also it only resulted in minimal damage to the spacesuit material. In past lunar missions, astronauts’ specialized brushes for the moon dust task often caused damage to spacesuits after a single use. In comparison, the liquid nitrogen spray took 75 uses before similar issues occurred.
Going forward, the team hopes to further research the complexity that makes the cleaning process so effective, as well as secure funding to construct testing rooms more closely resembling the lunar surface’s gravity. With any luck, maybe a can of their Moon-Dust-Gone will be aboard a future Artemis mission, ready to help astronauts avoid one of the lunar surface’s annoying things.
28. Why does the author mention “Apollo” in the first paragraph?
A. To prove moon dust is a real headache.
B. To compare past and present moon programs.
C. To show the achievements in moon exploration.
D. To offer readers insights into the Apollo program.
29. What does the underlined word “particles” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Liquid waste. B. Moon dust. C. Nitrogen spray. D. Protective coating.
30. What did the research team find about their spray in Paragraph 3?
A. It belonged to single-use items for astronauts.
B. It performed better in normal atmospheric conditions.
C. It increased the strength of the material of spacesuits.
D. It protected spacesuits better compared with the brush.
31. What may the follow-up research of the spray focus on?
A. Test subjects. B. Complex lunar surface.
C. Other applications. D. Reasons for efficient cleaning.
A 29. B 30. D 31. D
根据文章第一段前两句“Moon dust is the absolute worst. Not only does electrostatics (静电) cause it to stick to virtually everything, but it also has the consistency and feel of finely ground fiberglass.(月球尘埃绝对是最糟糕的。静电不仅使它能粘在几乎所有东西上,而且它还具有磨细的玻璃纤维的一致性和触感。)”可知,作者在第一段提到“阿波罗”是为了证明月球尘埃是件很头疼的事。故选A。
根据文章第二段最后一句中的“a liquid nitrogen spray (typically around -320℉) comes into contact with a surface’s relatively warmer lunar dust coating(液氮喷雾(通常在-320华氏度左右)与月球表面相对温暖的尘埃涂层接触)”和“turn into things like drops and float away on the nitrogen vapors(变成水滴一样的东西,漂浮在氮蒸气上)”可知,此处是指把月球表面的尘埃变成水滴一样的东西,漂浮在氮蒸气上,所以particles是指“月球尘埃”。故选B。
根据第三段最后三句“Not only did the liquid nitrogen spray perform better in the latter circumstances, but also it only resulted in minimal damage to the spacesuit material. In past lunar missions, astronauts’ specialized brushes for the moon dust task often caused damage to spacesuits after a single use. In comparison, the liquid nitrogen spray took 75 uses before similar issues occurred.(液氮喷雾不仅在后一种情况下表现更好,而且只对航天服材料造成最小的损坏。在过去的月球任务中,宇航员专门用于清除月球尘埃的刷子在一次使用后经常会损坏宇航服。相比之下,液氮喷雾在出现类似问题之前使用了75次。)”可知,研究小组发现液氮喷雾与刷子相比能更好地保护宇航服。故选D。
31. 推理判断题。根据最后一段第一句“Going forward, the team hopes to further research the complexity that makes the cleaning process so effective, as well as secure funding to construct testing rooms more closely resembling the lunar surface’s gravity.(展望未来,该团队希望进一步研究使清洁过程如此有效的复杂性,并获得资金来建造更接近月球表面重力的试验室。)”
D
Imagine this. You need an image of a balloon for a work presentation and turn to an AI text-to- image generator, like Midjourney or DALL-E, to create a suitable image. You enter the prompt (提示词) “red balloon against a blue sky” but the generator returns an image of an egg instead.
What’s going on? The generator you’re using may have been “poisoned”. What does this mean? Text-to-image generators work by being trained on large datasets that include millions or billions of images. Some of the generators have been trained by indiscriminately scraping online images, many of which may be under copyright. This has led to many copyright infringement (侵害) cases where artists have accused big tech companies of stealing and profiting from their work.
This is also where the idea of “poison” comes in. Researchers who want to empower individual artists have recently created a tool named “Nightshade” to fight back against unauthorised image scraping. The tool works by slightly altering an image’s pixels (像素) in a way that confuses the computer vision system but leaves the image unaltered to a human’s eyes. If an organization then scrapes one of these images to train a future AI model, its data pool becomes “poisoned”. This can result in mistaken learning, which makes the generator return unintended results. As in our earlier example, a balloon might become an egg.
The higher the number of “poisoned” images in the training data, the greater the impact. Because of how generative AI works, the damage from “poisoned” images also affects related prompt keywords. For example, if a “poisoned” image of a Picasso work is used in training data, prompt results for masterpieces from other artists can also be affected.
Possibly, tools like Nightshade can be abused by some users to intentionally upload “poisoned” images in order to confuse AI generators. But the Nightshade’s developer hopes the tool will make big tech companies more respectful of copyright. It does challenge a common belief among computer scientists that data found online can be used for any purpose they see fit.
Human rights activists, for example, have been concerned for some time about the indiscriminate use of machine vision in wider society. This concern is particularly serious concerning facial recognition. There is a clear connection between facial recognition cases and data poisoning, as both relate to larger questions around technological governance. It may be better to see data poisoning as an innovative solution to the denial of some fundamental human rights.
32. The underlined word “scraping” (para. 2) is closest in meaning to ____.
A. facilitating B. collecting C. damaging D. polishing
33. According to the passage, adding poisoned data might ____.
A. increase the accuracy of returned information
B. cause users to forget the prompt key words
C. interfere with the training of generative AI
D. discriminate against great masterpieces
34. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. Data poisoning is somehow justified to direct attention to human rights.
B. Computer scientists has learned to respect the copyright of most artists.
C. Nightshade is being abused by human rights activists to recognize faces.
D. The issue of technological governance has aroused the lawyers’ interest.
35. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?
A. Data Poisoning: Government Empowering Citizens to Protect Themselves
B. Data Poisoning: Addressing Facial Recognition Issues Among Artists
C. Data Poisoning: Risks and Rewards of Generative AI Data Training
D. Data Poisoning: Restricting Innovation or Empowering Artists
B 33. C 34. A 35. D
根据第三段“The tool works by slightly altering an image’s pixels (像素) in a way that confuses the computer vision system but leaves the image unaltered to a human’s eyes. If an organization then scrapes one of these images to train a future AI model, its data pool becomes “poisoned”. This can result in mistaken learning, which makes the generator return unintended results.(该工具通过以人类肉眼无法察觉、但能迷惑计算机视觉系统的方式,对图像的像素进行轻微修改。如果一个组织随后抓取这些图像来训练未来的AI模型,其数据池就会变得“中毒”。这可能导致错误的学习,使得生成器返回非预期的结果。)”可知,添加“中毒”数据可能干扰生成人工智能的训练,故选C项。
34.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Possibly, tools like Nightshade can be abused by some users to intentionally upload “poisoned” images in order to confuse AI generators. But the Nightshade’s developer hopes the tool will make big tech companies more respectful of copyright.(可能的是,像Nightshade这样的工具可以被一些用户滥用,故意上传“有毒”图片以混淆AI生成器。但Nightshade的开发者希望这个工具能让大型科技公司更加尊重版权。)”以及最后一段“Human rights activists, for example, have been concerned for some time about the indiscriminate use of machine vision in wider society(例如,人权活动家一直对机器视觉在更广泛社会中的不加选择使用表示关切)”可推理出,数据中毒在某种程度上将人们的注意力引向人权是有道理的,故选A项。
根据第一段“You enter the prompt (提示词) “red balloon against a blue sky” but the generator returns an image of an egg instead.( 你输入了提示词“红色气球对比蓝色天空”,但是生成器返回的却是一张鸡蛋的图片)”、第二段“The generator you’re using may have been “poisoned”(你正在使用的生成器可能已经被“毒化”)”以及“Some of the generators have been trained by indiscriminately scraping online images, many of which may be under copyright. This has led to many copyright infringement cases where artists have accused big tech companies of stealing and profiting from their work.”(一些生成器是通过不加选择地抓取在线图像来训练的,其中许多图像可能属于版权所有。这导致了许多侵犯版权的案件,艺术家指控大型科技公司窃取他们的作品并从中获利)、倒数第二段“Possibly, tools like Nightshade can be abused by some users to intentionally upload “poisoned” images in order to confuse AI generators. But the Nightshade’s developer hopes the tool will make big tech companies more respectful of copyright.(可能的是,像Nightshade这样的工具可以被一些用户滥用,故意上传“有毒”图片以混淆AI生成器。
I’ve always disliked getting up in winter. As a child, I would drag myself out of bed, my eyes half-closed, and watch my school uniform warming on the radiator. ____36____ It’s too dark, and I am always half-asleep.
____37____ Most of them are fun, but few really change my life in the long run. Sunrise alarm clocks, however, are different. They’ve become a fundamental part of my morning routine. My top picks, the Lumie Bodyclock Spark 100 and Philips SmartSleep, have greatly benefited me. I’m waking up every day feeling more energetic and mentally sharper.
Essentially, sunrise alarm clocks are a combination of alarm clock and light treatment device that shines with increasing brightness as your wake-up time approaches. The light interacts with our natural sleep-wake cycle, much as the sun does when it rises. ____38____
Sunrise alarm clocks also promote healthier sleep habits. In our tech-driven world, waking up often means immediately checking our phones. An important strength of sunrise alarm clocks is that your morning wake-up no longer involves your phone. Stopping a smartphone alarm means your day begins with eyes on-screen. ____39____ But with these clocks, you can start the day with a clearer mind and more concentration.
Sleep is personal, and no single device fits everyone. But for me, sunrise alarm clocks have been a game-changer. They’re affordable, with quality models available for under £30. ____40____ After all, some morning people are made, not born.
A. They prove to fall into this unique category.
B. Interested in tech, I often test fascinating devices.
C. Therefore, we wake up biologically prepared for the day.
D. The path to endless screen time is just a fingerprint away.
E. These days, I set multiple alarms to ensure I’m woken up.
F. If you are struggling with dark mornings, it’s worth a shot.
G. All of the sunrise alarm clocks I’ve tested have their strengths.
E 37. B 38. C 39. D 40. F
36. 根据上文“As a child, I would drag myself out of bed, my eyes half-closed, and watch my school uniform warming on the radiator.(小时候,我会半闭着眼睛,拖着自己从床上起来,看着我的校服在暖气片上暖着)”以及下文“It’s too dark, and I am always half-asleep.(天太黑了,我总是处于半睡半醒的状态)”可推测,这里说的是现在作者起床的状况。选项E“These days, I set multiple alarms to ensure I’m woken up.(如今,我会设置好几个闹钟来确保自己能醒来)”符合语境,衔接上下文,说明现在作者为了起床所采取的措施。故选E。
37. 根据下文“Most of them are fun, but few really change my life in the long run. Sunrise alarm clocks, however, are different.(其中大多数都很有趣,但从长远来看,真正改变我生活的很少。然而,日出闹钟就不一样了)”可推测,空处要提到“them”所指代的内容。选项B“Interested in tech, I often test fascinating devices.(因为对科技感兴趣,我经常测试一些有趣的设备)”能引出下文,说明作者测试各种设备,然后引出对日出闹钟的介绍。其中的“devices”与下文的“them”指代一致。故选B。
38. 根据上文“Essentially, sunrise alarm clocks are a combination of alarm clock and light treatment device that shines with increasing brightness as your wake-up time approaches. The light interacts with our natural sleep-wake cycle, much as the sun does when it rises.(从本质上讲,日出闹钟是闹钟和光疗设备的结合,随着起床时间的临近,它会越来越亮。这种光线与我们自然的睡眠-觉醒周期相互作用,就像太阳升起时一样)”可知,这里说的是日出闹钟的原理以及对我们的影响。选项C“Therefore, we wake up biologically prepared for the day.(因此,我们醒来时在生理上已经为新的一天做好了准备)”是对上文的总结,说明因为这种光的作用——我们能在生理上做好起床准备。故选C。
39. 根据上文“Stopping a smartphone alarm means your day begins with eyes on-screen.(关掉智能手机的闹钟意味着你的一天从看屏幕开始)”可知,这里说的是用手机闹钟的情况。选项D“The path to endless screen time is just a fingerprint away.(进入无休止的屏幕时间的路径只需一个指纹的距离)”进一步说明了用手机闹钟后很容易进入长时间看屏幕的状态,衔接上文。故选D。
40. 根据上文“But for me, sunrise alarm clocks have been a game-changer. They’re affordable, with quality models available for under £30.(但对我来说,日出闹钟改变了我的生活。它们价格实惠,优质的型号售价不到30英镑)”以及下文“After all, some morning people are made, not born.(毕竟,有些喜欢早起的人是后天养成的,而不是天生的)”可知,本段是在推荐日出闹钟。选项F“If you are struggling with dark mornings, it’s worth a shot.(如果你在黑暗的早晨起床困难,这值得一试)”符合语境,承上启下,推荐那些起床困难的人试试日出闹钟。

A. while 当…时;B. because 因为;C. if 如果;D. though 尽管。 故选A。
A. cheers 欢呼;B. chuckles 轻笑;C. doubts 怀疑;D. questions 问题。
A. floated 漂浮;B. rolled 翻滚;C. hung 悬挂;D. disappeared 消失。
A. clearing 放晴;B. rising 上升;C. settling 沉降;D. pounding 猛击。
A. anxious 焦虑的;B. exciting 兴奋的;C. gentle 温柔的;D. formal 正式的。 故选A。
A. vehicle 车辆;B. flood 洪水;C. trick 恶作剧;D. shadow 影子。根据下文“Water turned our driveway into a gushing river”可知,作者看到的景象是“洪水”。
A. prevented 阻止;B. blocked 堵塞;C. carved 雕刻/冲刷出;D. ignored 忽视。
A. welcome 欢迎;B. gratitude 感激;C. regret后悔;D. sorrow 悲伤。
A. examining 检查;B. covering 覆盖;C. filling 填平;D. finding 发现。
A. gave up 放弃;B. choked up 哽咽;C. broke down 崩溃;D. turned away 转身离开。
A. steady 坚定的;B. reasonable 合理的;C. limited 有限的;D. false 虚假的。根据上文丈夫鼓励的话语“We’ll fix this”和“We’re tough”可知,他的信心是“坚定的、可靠的”。故选A。
A. legend 传说;B. promise 承诺;C. memory 记忆;D. symbol 象征。

Eighth grade meant a new classroom and a new teacher, but I barely noticed the change. As far as I was concerned, a classroom was a classroom. I longed to be outside, wandering around the hills of Tennessee, where I grew up. My teachers didn’t appreciate hidden caves, running streams and wild bears any more than I appreciated algebra, history and calligraphy. My report cards always included notes, like “Douglas needs to apply himself instead of staring out the window.”
My parents tried their best with me, but school hadn’t been a big part of their lives either. Daddy left after the third grade, Mama after the sixth. “He’ll grow out of it,” Daddy said when another teacher had concerns about me being too much of a dreamer. “Our boy came along a hundred years too late,” Daddy said. “If he’d been born in 1842, he would have fit right in.”
The rugged (崎岖的) land, the wild life, the adventure — more for me to dream about while chained to my eighth-grade desk. It seemed there were two kinds of people in the world: those who belonged in the classroom and those who belonged in the mountains. The teacher, Miss Cook, seemed to know which one I was and had put me far away from the window.
“Douglas Clark.” The sound of my name pulled me out of my daydreams. Miss Cook had appeared at my side without my even knowing. “If this daydreaming continues, I’m going to have to pay a visit to your parents,” she said.
I gave her a grin. “If you aren’t going to help cook supper, you might as well not come,” I said.
The class laughed, but Miss Cook did not. “That’s very clever,” she said. “I think you should stay after school and share more of your cleverness.”
I sighed. My joke was going to keep me where I didn’t belong. That’s the way it was with teachers. They never missed a chance to remind me of that.
As soon as the bell rang, I took out my notebook to get a head start on writing “I will not be clever in class” 200 times. But Miss Cook had something else in mind. She called me to the front and told me to sit facing her.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
“I’d like you to write about the outdoor adventure you enjoyed most,” she said.

Gradually, I found myself falling in love with school learning.

③展示:display /show
①不情愿:reluctantly /unwillingly
②惊讶:surprised /astonished

A. Great Writers. B. Book Club.
C. Everyday Hero. D. Hit Movies.

A. Great Writers. B. Book Club.
C. Everyday Hero. D. Hit Movies.
C
