An Australian girl came up
with a smart idea to help farmers
The 14-year-old Australian girl,
Isabella O'Sullivan,1 a smart
robot called“Moisture Master'”(保湿大师)to help
farmers grow crops.She 2 Australia's first "Young
Business Star of the Year"prize because of her invention
in2024.
The idea began with Isabella's deep 3 in farm
science. She loves it and often watches how things work.
She spent time watching farming practices closely and
noticed two main 4 long periods of dry weather and
farmers making very little money from their animals.
These problems encouraged her to find a way to help.
What does the robot do?The robot uses special
devices(装置)to check the5 of the soil..If the
soil needs 6,the robot starts watering the land
automatically(自s动地).This helps save water and stops
crops from going 7.
To improve the system,Isabella first tried different
ways to position the devices in the soil until she found
the most 8 ways. She tested again and again, never
giving up when things didn't work at first. Then, she
9 connecting these devices to a mobile app. Now,
farmers can check soil moisture levels(水分含量)
10 by simply opening the app, which saves them
time and effort of checking the fields themselves.
Isabella shares her business skills with her
classmates. She holds free classes and online lessons
through the "Girls'Business School".These activities
encourage more girls to try business ideas.

On April 19th,2025,Beijing's Yizhuang District
held the world's first human-like robot half-marathon.
Twenty teams of robots from cities like Beijing,Shanghai
and Guangzhou ran in a 21.1-kilometer race with
human runners. This showed that robots can do real-life
tasks,like running long distances.
The winner was Tiangong Ultra from the Beijing
Humanoid Robot Innovation Center. It finished in 2
hours and 40 minutes,with a top speed of 12 km/h.
This 1.8-meter-tall robot used light materials and
cooling parts to prevent getting too hot.Other teams
were wonderful,too.For example,Whirlwind Kid and
Little Giant (a 75-centimeter-tall robot)had special
shoes to absorb(缓冲)shocks and used AI to keep
balance on hills and gravel paths.
The race tested how far the robots could go.The
race had 14 tight turns(急转弯)and steep(陡峭的)
48
hills. It also had different surfaces, like grass and small
stones.Teams could change batteries at seven supply
stations. If they replaced the whole robot, they would
lose 10 minutes. Some robots wore special shoes to
protect their joints.Others used sensors that worked
quickly to avoid falling.
This event wasn't just a competition.It helped
bring robotics into everyday life. For example,Tsinghua
University's Kuafu robot learned to move smoothly with a
little training data. This is good for disaster
rescue().Organizers called it a big step and said
we would see more robots help doctors in hospitals or
move goods in factories in the future.
Beijing's Yizhuang Area has over 100 robotics
companies. It plans to use these technologies a lot in
healthcare and delivering things. As one engineer said,
"This marathon shows how robots and humans can work
together for a smarter future."
