B In 1943, when I was 4, my parents moved from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Fairbanks, Alaska, where adventure was never very far away. We arrived in the summer, just in time to enjoy the midnight sun. All that sunlight was fantastic for Mom’s vegetable garden. Working in the garden at midnight tended to throw her timing off, so she didn’t care much about my bedtime. Dad was a Railway Express agent and Mom was his clerk. That left me in a mess. I usually managed to find some trouble to get into. Once I had a little fire going in the dirt basement of a hotel. I had tried to light a barrel(桶) of paint but couldn’t really get a good fire going. The smoke got pretty bad, though, and when 1 made my exit, a crowd and the police were there to greet me. The policemen took my matches and drove me home. Mom and Dad were occupied in the garden and Dad told the police to keep me, and they did! I had a tour of the prison before Mom rescued me. I hadn’t turned 5 yet. As I entered kindergarten, the serious cold began to set in. Would it surprise you to know that I soon left part of my tongue on a metal handrail at school? As for Leonhard Seppala, famous as a dog sledder, I think I knew him well because I was taken for a ride with his white dog team one Sunday. At the time I didn’t realize what a superstar he was, but I do remember the ride well. I was wrapped (包裹) heavily and well sheltered from the freezing and blowing weather. In 1950, we moved back to Coeur d’Alene, but we got one more Alaskan adventure when Leonhard invited us eight years later by paying a visit to Idaho to attend a gathering of former neighbors of Alaska. 4. What can be inferred about the author’s family? A. His father was a cruel man. B. His parents didn’t love him. C. His parents used to be very busy. D. His mother didn’t have any jobs. 5. What happened when the author was 4? A. He learned to smoke. B. He was locked in a basement. C. He was arrested by the police. D. He nearly caused a fire accident. 6. Which of the following is true? A. Leonhard was good at driving dog sleds. B. The author spent his whole childhood in Alaska. C. Leonhard often visited the author’s family after 1950. D. The author suffered a lot while taking the dog sled in Alaska. 7. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text? A. To look back on his childhood with adventures. B. To describe the extreme weather of Alaska. C. To express how much he misses Leonhard. D. To show off his pride in making trouble. C With around 100 students scheduled to be in that 9:00 am Monday morning lecture, it is no surprise that almost 20 people actually make it to the class and only 10 of them are still awake after the first 15 minutes; it is not even a surprise that most of them are still in their pajama’s(睡衣). Obviously, students are terrible at adjusting their sleep cycles to their daily schedule. All human beings possess a body clock. Along with other alerting systems, this governs the sleep/wake cycle and is therefore one of the main processes which govern sleep behaviour. Typically, the preferred sleep/wake cycle is delayed in adolescents, which leads to many students not feeling sleepy until much later in the evenings. This typical sleep pattern is usually referred to as the “night owl” schedule of sleep. This is opposed to the “early bird” schedule, and is a kind of disorder where the individual tends to stay up much past midnight. Such a person has great difficulty in waking up in the mornings. Research suggests that night owls feel most alert and function best in the evenings and at night. Research findings have shown that about 20 percent of people can be classified as “night owls” and only 10 percent can be classified as “early birds” ------ the other 70 percent are in the middle. Although this is clearly not true for all students, for the ones who are true night owls, this gives them an excellent excuse for missing their lectures which unfortunately fall before midday. 8. What does the author stress in Paragraph 1? A. Many students are absent from class. B. Students are very tired on Monday mornings. C. Students do not adjust their sleep patterns well. D. Students are not well prepared for class on Mondays. 9. Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 2? A. Most students prefer to get up late in the morning. B. Students don’t sleep well because of alerting systems. C. One’s body clock governs the sleep/wake cycle independently. D. Adolescents’ delayed sleep/wake cycle isn’t the preferred pattern. 10. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “classified”? A. Criticized B. Grouped C. Organized D. Named 11. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Functions of the body clock. B. The “night owl” phenomenon. C. Human beings’ sleep behaviour. D. The school schedule of “early birds”. D Women are friendly. But men are more competitive. Why? Researchers have found it all boils down to oxytocin (催产素). a hormone. Although known as the love hormone, it affects the sexes differently. “Women tend to be social in their behavior. They often share with others. But men tend to be competitive. They are trying to improve their social status,” said Professor Ryan. Generally, people believe that the hormone oxytocin is let out in our body in various social situations and our body creates a large amount of it during positive social interactions such as falling in love or giving birth. But in a previous experiment Professor Ryan found that the hormone is also let out in our body during negative social interactions such as envy. Further researches showed that in men the hormone oxytocin improves the ability to recognize competitive relationships, but in women it raises the ability to recognize friendship. Professor Ryan’s recent experiment used 62 men and women aged 20 to 37. Half of the participants received oxytocin. The other half received placebo (安慰剂). After a week, the two groups switched with participants. They went through the same procedure with the other material. Following each treatment, they were shown some video pictures with different social interactions. Then they were asked to analyze the relationships by answering some questions. The questions were about telling friendship from competition. And their answers should be based on gestures, body language and facial expressions. The results indicated that, after treatment with oxytocin, men’s ability to correctly recognize competitive relationships improved, but in women it was the ability to correctly recognize friendship that got better. Professor Ryan thus concluded: “Our experiment proves that the hormone oxytocin can raise people’s abilities to better distinguish different social interactions. And the behavior differences between men and women are caused by biological factor that are mainly hormonal.” 12. What causes men and women to behave differently according to the text? A. The placebo. B. The hormone. C. The social situation. D. The social status. 13. What can we learn from Professor Ryan’s previous experiment? A. Oxytocin affects our behavior in a different way. B. Our body lets out oxytocin when we are deep in love. C. Our body produces oxytocin when we feel unhappy about others’ success. D. Oxytocin improves our abilities to understand people’s behavior differences. 14. Why did Professor Ryan conduct the recent experiment? A. To test the effect of oxytocin on the ability to recognize social interactions. B. To know the differences between friendship and competition. C. To know people’s different abilities to answer questions. D. To test people’s understanding of body language. 15. The author develops the text by ________. A. explaining people’s behaviors B. describing his own experiences C. distinguishing sexual differences D. discussing research experiments Research shows that we spend one-third to one-half of our waking life not living in the present. ___16___ Our brains transport us to past events, imagined future scenes and other internal thoughts. This allows for introspection (内省) — the space to imagine, remember, reflect and then use these fantasies to solve problems, innovate and create. But introspection can sometimes lead to more harm than good. ___17___ When we focus inward to work through our problems, we may find that doing so causes us to feel worse. Negative thought cycles like this can make our capacity for introspection feel more like a curse than a blessing. The fact that introspection is both a helpful tool and destructive force is a great contradiction of the human mind. Fortunately, science has begun to explain why this happens, and how to control it. ___18___ This fires up our emotions to the degree of rejecting alternative ways of thinking about the issue that might cool us down. In other words, we lose insight. One natural solution to this problem is to zoom out — to “step back” from your problems so you can think about them more objectively. ___19___ However, not just any conversation will do. The key is to focus on talking to people who not only allow you to express your emotions but also help broaden your horizons. Introspection is central to the makeup of the human mind. The challenge is to minimize the negative aspects while achieving its potential. ___20___ A. But it can be wonderful to live in the past. B. We naturally separate from the here and now. C. It might contribute to anxiety and depression. D. Another way to gain insight is to talk to others. E. Regulating negative emotions also helps to reason wisely. F. Negative thought cycles occur when we zoom in too close on our problems. G. Being aware of how our minds work can help us make the best of introspection. One day, Marga asked if I would join her in hiking to Base Camp at the foot of Mount Qomolangma to celebrate her 60th birthday. My son Gary and I had just finished setting out the last of our Halloween decorations. Although we only lived a few dozen miles outside of Indianapolis, our home might as well have been located in the remote wilderness for how isolated we were. With only a long, winding driveway connecting our home to a sleepy road, we weren’t expecting many visitors for Halloween in our neck of the woods. I had just settled down for some hot cocoa and the evening news on TV when I heard Gary’s voice ring out from the outside. “Dad! I need your help Hurry!” Throwing my shoes on, I rushed outside to see what was the matter. My feet crushed over wet red and orange leaves as I made my way over to the garbage cans at the end of the long driveway. I came to stop next to my son as I bent over panting, asking what was the matter between gasps of air. Barely taller than the trash can he was standing next to, he waved me over as we both peered into the trash can together. Only seeing the pile of wet leaves we had raked together from earlier, I was about to scold Gary for playing a trick on me when, suddenly, I noticed some movement and rustling. Worried that it might be some dangerous animal, I went over to grab a rake that we had left on the lawn and slowly lowered it into the trash can with the stick-end first. Suddenly, I could see the streaks of black and gray fur: a raccoon (浣熊)! After making eye contact with us, the raccoon began squeaking for our attention. It seemed cold, wet and miserable. Although I was initially against the idea of even touching the thing, Gary begged and pleaded (恳求) with me for us to help the creature. At last, I gave in to his pleading. Paragraph 1: We took a spare towel from the house and wrapped the raccoon like a furry baby. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: A year later, we spotted something moving in the woods in our backyard. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 厦外2026届高三上周测3 得分:________/150分 本试卷分选择题和非选择题两部分,共10页,满分为150分。 That left me in a mess.” 根据文章第六段“As for Leonhard Seppala, famous as a dog sledder”可知,Leonhard Seppala“”以驾雪橇的高超技术而出名,故选A。 C With around 100 students scheduled to be in that 9:00 am Monday morning lecture, it is no surprise that almost 20 people actually make it to the class and only 10 of them are still awake after the first 15 minutes; it is not even a surprise that most of them are still in their pajama’s(睡衣). C 9. D 10. B 11. Obviously, students are terrible at adjusting their sleep cycles to their daily schedule. Typically , the preferred sleep / wake cycle is delayed in adolescents … This typical sleep pattern is usually referred to as the "night owl" schedule of和第四段首句This is opposed to the "early bird" schedule,可知睡眠模式有两种,即"night owl"和"early bird",而此处把20%归到night owls类,由此判断该词意思为“分类”,选B。 D Women are friendly. A. explaining people’s behaviors B. describing his own experiences C. distinguishing sexual differences D. discussing research experiments 【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. But men are more competitive. Why? Researchers have found it all boils down to oxytocin (催产素), a hormone. Although known as the love hormone, it affects the sexes differently.(女性很友善。 根据第三段中的“But in a previous experiment Professor Ryan found that the hormone is also let out in our body during negative social interactions such as envy.(但在之前的一项实验中,瑞安教授发现,在嫉妒等负面社交互动中,我们的身体也会释放这种激素。)” 根据第五段中的“Following each treatment, they were shown some video pictures with different social interactions. Then they were asked to analyze the relationships by answering some questions. The questions were about telling friendship from competition.(每次治疗后,他们会观看一些包含不同社交互动的视频片段。 以及第六段中的“The results indicated that, after treatment with oxytocin, men’s ability to correctly recognize competitive relationships improved, but in women it was the ability to correctly recognize friendship that got better.(结果表明,经过催产素治疗后,男性正确识别竞争关系的能力有所提高,而女性正确识别友谊的能力有所提高。)” 故选A项。 Research shows that we spend one-third to one-half of our waking life not living in the present. B 17. C 18. F 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Research shows that we spend one-third to one-half of our waking life not living in the present.(研究表明,我们醒着的时候,有三分之一到一半的时间都不是活在当下)”以及后文“Our brains transport us to past events, imagined future scenes and other internal thoughts.(我们的大脑把我们带到过去的事件,想象未来的场景和其他内在的想法)”可知,上文提到有三分之一到一半的时间都不是活在当下,后文则说我们的大脑把我们带到过去的事件,可见我们总是与此时此地的事物相分离。 【17题详解】 根据上文“This allows for introspection (内省) — the space to imagine, remember, reflect and then use these fantasies to solve problems, innovate and create. But introspection can sometimes lead to more harm than good.(这给了我们自省空间——想象、回忆、反思,然后利用这些幻想来解决问题、创新和创造。但自省有时弊大于利)”以及后文“When we focus inward to work through our problems, we may find that doing so causes us to feel worse. Negative thought cycles like this can make our capacity for introspection feel more like a curse than a blessing.(当我们集中精力解决问题时,我们可能会发现这样做会让我们感觉更糟。 【18题详解】 根据后文“This fires up our emotions to the degree of rejecting alternative ways of thinking about the issue that might cool us down. In other words, we lose insight. One natural solution to this problem is to zoom out — to “step back” from your problems so you can think about them more objectively.(这将我们的情绪激发到拒绝其他可能让我们冷静下来的思考问题的方式的程度。 【19题详解】 根据后文“However, not just any conversation will do. The key is to focus on talking to people who not only allow you to express your emotions but also help broaden your horizons.(然而,并不是任何对话都可以。 20题详解】 本段第一句“Introspection is central to the makeup of the human mind.(内省是人类思维构成的核心)”本段说明内省是思维的核心,接着“The challenge is to minimize the negative aspects while achieving its potential.(我们面临的挑战是在发挥其潜力的同时尽量减少其负面影响)”说明我们要减少负面影响,因此推断G项“知道我们的思想是如何工作的,可以帮助我们充分利用内省。” One day, Marga asked if I would join her in hiking to Base Camp at the foot of Mount Qomolangma to celebrate her 60th birthday. It can easily be seen that the percentages of students who choose to listen to English songs and watch English movies are respectively 65% and 50%. However, those choosing to read English books and visit English learning websites only account for 18% and 12%. As far as I’m concerned, it is a disturbing trend. For students, what benefits most to their study is reading English books. It’s urgent for students to improve their self-discipline, and it’s also advisable that parents and teachers strengthen their guidance, directing students toward more effective learning methods. Nowadays, with the growing popularity of smartphones and computers, an increasing number of students are choosing to learn English beyond the classroom in various ways. Nowadays, as smartphones and computers have grown increasingly popular, an increasing number of students are choosing to learn English beyond the classroom in various ways. 1】It can easily be seen that the percentages of students who choose to listen to English songs and watch English movies are respectively 65% and 50%.(运用了it作形式主语,that引导主语从句,以及who引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Ita’s also advisable that parents and teachers strengthen their guidance, directing students toward more effective learning methods.(运用了it作形式主语,that引导主语从句,以及现在分词短语作状语) 第二节 读后续写(满分25分) 47. I still remember that day well: it was a cold, dreary (沉闷的) day in late October. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 We took a spare towel from the house and wrapped the raccoon like a furry baby. Holding it tightly in his arms, Gary brought it inside and placed it near the heater to warm up. Afraid that it might be hungry, Gary hurried to the kitchen to get some nuts and milk. The raccoon, which must have been very hungry, ate the food quickly. We ended up spending a happy Halloween night with this unexpected visitor. The next morning, unwilling though we were, seeing that the raccoon had fully recovered, we took it to the edge of the woods. After giving us one last look, the raccoon disappeared into the forest. A year later, we spotted something moving in the woods in our backyard. We were so curious that we went to check it out. Hardly had we got near when the raccoon jumped out. It was exactly the one we saved the year before. Gary stepped forward and stroked it gently. Recognizing him, the raccoon wagged its tail merrily. It played with us for a moment before returning to the woods. If we hadn’t rescued it last year, we wouldn’t have experienced this happy reunion. This experience was deeply engraved in our minds and reminded us that it is of great significance to live in harmony with animals. 词汇激活 行为类 ①匆忙赶往:hurry to/ rush to/ dash to ②放置:place/ position/ situate ③抚摸:stroke/ pat gently 情绪类 ①不情愿的:unwilling/ reluctant ②愉悦的:happy/ delighted/ joyful/ overjoyed 【点睛】【高分句型1】The next morning, unwilling though we were, seeing that the raccoon had fully recovered, we took it to the edge of the woods. 2】If we hadn’t rescued it last year, we wouldn’t have experienced this happy reunion.
