Passage 1
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
CATCH OF A LIFETIME[1] He was 11 and went fishing every chance he got from the dock at his family’s cabin.
[2] On 29 June, the day before the bass season opened, he and his father were fishing early in the evening. Then he tied on a small silver lure[1] and practised casting. When the fishing pole doubled over, he knew something huge was on the other end. His father watched with admiration as the boy skillfully worked the fish alongside the dock.
[3] Finally, he lifted the tired fish from the water. It was the largest one he had ever seen, but it was a bass.
[4] The father lit a match and looked at his watch. It was 10 p.m.—two hours before the season opened. He looked at the fish, then at the boy.
[5] “You’ll have to put it back, son,” he said.
[6] “Dad!” cried the boy.
[7] “There will be other fish,” said his father.
[8] “ ” cried the boy.
[9] He looked around the lake. No others were anywhere around in the moonlight. He looked again at his father. Even though no one had seen them, nor could anyone ever know what time he caught the fish, the boy could tell by the clarity[2] of his father’s voice that the decision was not negotiable. He slowly worked the hook out of the lip of the huge bass and lowered it into the black water. The boy suspected that he would never again see such a great fish.
[10] That was 34 years ago. Today, the boy is a successful architect in New York City. He takes his own son and daughters fishing from the same dock.
[11] And he was right. He has never again caught such a magnificent fish as the one he landed that night long ago. But he does see that same fish—again and again.

Passage 2
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
Jack London was born in California, USA, in 1876. As a young man in 1897, he took part in the famous Klondike Gold Rush, when a huge number of people rushed to the Yukon in Canada to look for gold. When London returned to California in 1898, he started writing stories. His novels The Call of the Wild and White Fang are based on his experiences in the Yukon. He died in 1916.
An extract [1] from The call of the wild
Buck did not read the newspapers. He did not know that trouble was coming for every big dog in California. Men had found gold in the Yukon, and these men wanted big, strong dogs to work in the cold and snow of the north.
Buck lived in Mr Miller’s big house in the sunny Santa Clara valley. There were large gardens and fields of fruit trees around the house, and a river nearby. In a big place like this, of course, there were many dogs. There were house dogs and farm dogs, but they were not important. Buck was chief dog; he was born here, and this was his place. He was four years old and weighed sixty kilos. He went swimming with Mr Miller’s sons and walking with his daughters. He carried the grandchildren on his back, and he sat at Mr Miller’s feet in front of the fire in winter.
But this was 1897, and Buck did not know that men and dogs were hurrying to north-west Canada to look for gold. And he did not know that Manuel, one of Mr Miller’s gardeners, needed money for his large family. One day, when Mr Miller was out, Manuel and Buck left the garden together. It was just an evening walk, Buck thought. No one saw them go, and only one man saw them arrive at the railway station. This man talked to Manuel, and gave him some money. Then he tied a piece of rope around Buck’s neck.
Buck growled[2], and was surprised when the rope was pulled hard around his neck. He jumped at the man. The man caught him and suddenly Buck was on his back with his tongue out of his mouth. For a few moments he was unable to move, and it was easy for the two men to put him into the train.
When Buck woke up, the train was still moving. The man was sitting and watching him, but Buck was too quick for him and he bit the man’s hand hard. Then the rope was pulled again and Buck had to let go.
Word box[1] extract n.
7.Buck was once Jack London’s dog, wasn’t he?
8.Why was Buck different from the other dogs?
9.Why did Manuel steal Buck from Mr. Miller?
10.Where did Manuel and the man put Buck?
11.What did Buck do to the man when he woke up?
12.In what aspects (方面) will Buck’s new life be different from his old life? (List at least two.)
Passage 3
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
When 4-year-old British royal family member Prince George started his first day of school in September, Chinese language was on his curriculum (课程). And he wasn’t alone. According to a report published by the British Council in September, about 51 percent of UK parents want their children to learn Chinese, as it’s believed to be one of the most useful languages to know.
In fact, the popularity of Chinese drove the UK government to start the Mandarin Excellence Programme (卓越汉语教学项目) in September last year. Its aim is to make at least 5,000 British state secondary school students fluent in Chinese by 2020.
However, the UK isn’t the only country showing a growing interest in Chinese. The language has become the second most spoken foreign language in the United States this year, after only Spanish, with over 2.1 million speakers, according to a survey by 24/7 Wall St, a US financial news website.
Many US famous people such as Facebook (脸书) founder Mark Zuckerberg and Malia Obama, former US President Barack Obama’s daughter, study Chinese as a second language.
In April, Arabella and Joseph Kushner, grandchildren of US President Donald Trump, performed the traditional folk song Jasmine in Mandarin for Chinese President Xi Jinping when the two leaders met in Florida.
So far, 67 countries and regions have included Chinese in their national curriculum, reported the Chinanews website.
So why are so many countries interested in learning Chinese? One reason could be that as China continues to develop quickly, Chinese is increasingly becoming a useful tool for people’s personal and professional growth.
“I think everyone believes that China will be the next great superpower…even if it’s not a superpower like America. It’s still very significant,” Aisling McCaffrey from Canada, who studied at the Renmin University of China, told Xinhua News Agency. “And learning Chinese is the best way to make sure that you can be part of that growth.”
This opinion was shared by former Prime Minister of the UK David Cameron, who urged British students to learn Chinese to “seal tomorrow’s business deals” in 2013. As he quoted from former South Africa President Nelson Mandela, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”
13.When did Prince George start to learn Chinese?
14.Why do most of the UK parents want their children to learn Chinese?
15.What did the UK government do because of the popularity of Chinese?
16.Chinese is the first most spoken foreign language in the United States, isn’t it?
17.What did the grandchildren of US President Donald Trump perform when the two leaders met in Florida?
18.How do you understand “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”?
Passage 4
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题)
Archimedes’ “War Machines”
Well-known Archimedes was a clever scientist in ancient Greece. He lived more than two thousand years ago and became famous for his discoveries in maths and physics. Using a smart way, he once showed King Hiero that his crown was not made completely of gold. However, few people know that Archimedes was also a great inventor who built many amazing machines.
In 215 B.C., the Roman army attacked his home city of Syracuse. At that time, most scientists would have left such matters to soldiers, but Archimedes decided to use his mind instead of weapons. He stopped doing his usual research and began to “fight against” the enemy by making several “war machines” that surprised the world.
One of these inventions was the Iron Claw (铁爪). It was a huge machine made of iron and needed many people to control it together. The claw could lift up Roman ships, shake them, and drop them back into the sea. The Romans were shocked when they saw their ships falling into the water like toys.
Archimedes also invented the stone thrower, a large machine that could send heavy stones from the city walls to attack the Roman ships far away. The Romans were so amazed by it that they even copied the design and built one of their own.
Perhaps the most famous of all was the Death Ray. Archimedes used many mirrors to catch sunlight and focus it on the Roman ships. The strong light made the wooden ships catch fire and soon they began to sink. The Roman soldiers were frightened and tried to escape.
What a creative mind Archimedes had! Using his great knowledge, he successfully protected his home city.
19.Archimedes once helped King Hiero, didn’t he?
20.When did the Roman army attack Archimedes’ home city?
21.How many “war machines” invented by Archimedes did the article mention?
22.What could the stone thrower do?
23.What was the Death Ray made of?
24.What can we learn from Archimedes’ story?

Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
Back to the UK
by Tom Brown
I have been studying in China for a year, and now I’m back in the UK to visit my family. It feels wonderful to see them again and enjoy some home-cooked food. However, after spending such a long time in China, I’ve noticed that life here is quite different—especially when it comes to technology and daily convenience.
Yesterday, I wanted to buy some vegetables and meat from a nearby shop. I decided to ride a shared bike to get there, just like I always did in China. But it took me ages to find one, and the short 10-minute ride cost me nearly five pounds.
In the shop, I quickly found everything I needed. I wanted to pay with my smartphone, but the shopkeeper looked confused when I asked for a QR code. Then I tried to use my digital wallet, but the machine didn’t support it. The shopkeeper told me to pay in cash. I never carry cash anymore because I always make digital payments in China. So, I had to go all the way home to get some money.
When I got home, I felt so tired that I decided not to cook. Instead, I ordered my favourite food through a delivery app, but the delivery was very slow. When my food finally arrived 90 minutes later, it was completely cold I had to heat everything in the oven, one dish at a time. I felt exhausted and hungry.
Although I’m happy to be home, I really miss the quick, and life I had in China. Everything there is just a click away
25.Tom has studied in the UK for a year, hasn’t he?
26.How did Tom feel about the cost of the bike ride?
27.Why do you think the shopkeeper looked confused when Tom asked for a QR code?
28.How long did it take for the food to arrive?
29.Fill in each blank with one proper adjective.
30.What three things did Tom compare between the digital life in China and in the UK?
Passage 6
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
Lily had always prided herself on her sharp memory. As a 15-year-old quiz team champion, she could recall historical dates and chemical formulas effortlessly. That was until the morning of her grandmother’s 70th birthday party.
When Lily arrived at the party, she noticed a strange blankness in her mind. She couldn’t remember her favorite childhood story—the one about how Grandma taught her to bake mooncakes. Worse, she kept forgetting names mid-conversation. “My memory is disappearing,” she whispered to her best friend Mei, clutching the gift box she’d wrapped three times already.
Mei suggested they visit Dr. Chen, a neuroscientist who lived nearby. After a series of tests, the doctor revealed the truth: Lily’s memory loss was temporary. “You’ve been under extreme stress,” he explained, showing brain scan images. “Your hippocampus is overworked from exams and competition. The solution was surprising—rest and storytelling.”
That evening, Grandma began sharing old family tales again. As Lily listened to the familiar rhythm of her voice, fragments of memory returned like puzzle pieces snapping into place. By midnight, she could finally recall the secret ingredient in mooncakes: a pinch of cinnamon from Grandpa’s garden.
The experience changed Lily’s perspective. She realized memory wasn’t just about facts—it was about connections. Now she keeps a memory journal, writing down not just important dates, but the feelings and smells that make them unforgettable.
31.Did Lily get back her memory in the end?
32.When did Lily start noticing her memory problems?
33.According to Dr. Chen, what caused Lily’s memory loss?
34.How did Lily’s get her memory return?
35.What did Lily realize about memory?
36.Suppose Lily’s friend Kai also experiences memory loss. Write 2 sentences about how Lily might help him.
Passage 7
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
One recent Sunday morning, I planned to read a bit of a novel after breakfast. Just as I opened the book, however, my phone rang. A deliveryman asked if he could put a package in the parcel locker downstairs. I agreed and hung up. Shortly after, my friend Brad messaged me on WeChat. Our quick chat turned into a 40-minute conversation. When we finished, it was already eleven. As I was about to get back to my book, a promotional (推销的) email popped up. Then, the Eleme app chimed (鸣响) in: It’s lunchtime! Click here to get a coupon!
This experience reminded me of an article I had recently come across about Christopher Nolan. The Oscar-winning director is known for high-tech movies like Inception (《盗梦空间》) and Interstellar (《星际穿越》). But in his personal life, the 53-year-old avoids technological distractions. He doesn’t own a smartphone and has never used email. He does write the scripts (剧本) for his movies on a computer, but the device (设备) has no internet connection. “I’ve never used email. I don’t think it’s helpful for anything I do,” he said. “And staying off a smartphone gives me time to think.”
Of course, Nolan is able to live without a phone or email account because his assistants can take calls and respond to online messages for him. Most of us can’t expect to live a life like that of an influential director. However, that doesn’t mean Nolan’s “no email, no phone” policy (策略) doesn’t make any sense (言之有理). Rather, it shows us the importance of focus in today’s digital world.
The sharp rise in internet usage over the past ten years has come at a cost. That is, we are slowly losing the ability to focus. Our smartphones and other devices can distract us at any second of the day. It has become increasingly difficult to focus on one task for long periods of time.
Nolan’s ability to produce so many excellent movies probably has something to do with his ability to focus. Without digital distractions, he can be all in when he works. He can fully focus on the job until it’s done.
Most of us can’t afford to entirely cut our internet cord (网线). But when we want to focus—on our work, our studies or just a good book—we might ________________.
37.How many things stopped the writer from reading in the morning?
38.Who is Christopher Nolan?
39.Why doesn’t Nolan use email or a smartphone?
40.Nolan’s “no email, no phone” policy doesn’t make any sense, does it?
41.Complete the last sentence. “...we might .”
42.Will you try to stop using smartphones or other electronic devices? Why?
Passage 8
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题)
I can feel the joy when people hold doors for me, pour cream into my coffee, or help me to put on my coat. And I’ve noticed that when someone helps me, their eyes light up too—it’s like we both get a little happiness gift.
From my wheelchair experience, I see the best in people almost every day, but sometimes I feel sad because those who seem independent miss the chance of feeling the kindness. They rush through life, carrying heavy bags alone or refusing help when they’re tired. They don’t get to see this soft side of others often. Sometimes, we try every possible way not to show our weakness.
Last month, when I was driving home on a busy road, I began to feel unwell and drove more slowly than usual. People behind me began to get impatient and angry. Some sped up beside me, honking (按喇叭) or even shouting at me. At that moment I decided to do something I had never done in 24 years of driving. I put on the car flashlights (警示灯) and drove on at a really low speed.
No more angry shouts and no more horns.
When I put on my flashlights, I was saying to other drivers, “I’m not feeling well, please be patient.” And everyone understood. Several times, I saw drivers who wanted to pass. They couldn’t get around me because of the stream of passing traffic. But instead of getting impatient and angry, they waited, because they knew the driver in front of them was in some way weak.
So, is it always right to wear a mask of strength? My story on the road that day and all the days in my wheelchair have taught me something different—a lesson I wish everyone could learn.
43.The writer can see the best in people from his wheelchair experience, can’t he?
44.What does the underlined part in the second paragraph “this soft side of others” mean?
45.Who began to feel impatient and angry when “I” drove more slowly on a busy road?
46.Why did the writer put on the car flashlights while driving slowly?
47.How did the drivers respond when “I” put on the car flashlights and still drove slowly?
48.What lesson does the writer probably learn from his experience?

One Saturday, Jim was helping Grandpa in the garden. “Will we plant daffodils this year?” asked Jim.
“Yes, but give it a few more days,” said Grandpa, handing Jim a gardening fork. “We need to get the weeds (杂草) out first.”
“Why do you like planting daffodils?” asked Jim.
“For Grandma,” said Grandpa. “On the day we first met, I gave her a bunch of daffodils. Seeing the sweet smile on her face, I knew she loved them. So when we got married, I promised her to plant daffodils every year.”
“Wow! I can’t wait to plant daffodils,” said Jim.

It was New Year’s Eve. In the morning, I heard Grandma tell Mum she needed a football for the New Year’s Eve dinner.
“A football for the dinner? What’s it for?” I wondered. “Anyway, I will get one! I can do something nice for Grandma.”
I remembered my friend Joe had an old football. I went out quietly and found him. I gave him my favourite model car in exchange for his football.
I took the football home, shined it and put it on the living room table secretly. I waited in my room for Grandma to notice it.
“Mike!” Mum shouted. I ran to the living room. “Why can’t you put your things where they belong? Get the football out of here!”
“But it’s for Grandma! She said she needed a football for the New Year’s Eve dinner.” I said.
“A football for the dinner?” Mum laughed. “No, Grandma needs a fruit bowl, not a football.”
“Fruit bowl sounds like football! I have done a silly thing!” I went back to my room, embarrassed and disappointed.
Before dinner, Mum came in and asked me to meet my uncles and aunts. When I walked into the living room, Grandma was showing them a pretty fruit bowl with the old football in its centre, I was surprised.

Triathlon is a race in which each person swims, rides a bicycle and runs over very long distances. It has been held ten times in Hope Town. Sam, aged 20, finished nine races with his younger brother Luke. Every race was a victory for them. Luke can’t walk, talk or feed himself because of a rare brain illness since birth. But Sam wants his brother to know what it feels like to be part of a sport instead of having to sit and watch. A local TV journalist interviewed Sam after he received the Town Hero Award.
(J=Journalist, S=Sam)
J: How did you get the idea to include Luke in these events?
S: When I was ten, my mom showed me a video of two young men from another city doing triathlons. One of the men had a condition like Luke has. I got the idea from that.
J: What’s it like having Luke along?
S: I feel good and proud during the whole triathlon, for I’m giving something to Luke. He can experience things any other man would.
J: What do you get from him?
S: It’s the smile on Luke’s face. That smile brightens me. The feeling of knowing that I’ve done something for him is unbelievable.
J: When you received the Town Hero Award, you talked about the importance of changing the way you see things. What did you mean?
S: People see Luke very differently: “Oh, he can’t do something like that. He’s disabled.” But if you just change how you see things, you can see there are many possibilities where Luke can do swimming, biking or even triathlons, like we do.
J: What do you want to share with other young men?

"Just because you can't see something, that doesn't mean it's not there. "This old saying is quite meaningful for British sculptor(雕刻家) Willard. The items he creates are so small that most of them fit on the head of a pin. You can see them clearly only through a microscope(显微镜).
Many people want to own his art pieces. He's been honored by the Queen of England for his great art achievements. At every one of his exhibitions, the question is always the same. How does he do it?
The answer is very, very carefully. So carefully, in fact, that he actually slows his breathing down and works in between breaths. Willard usually works under a microscope using special tools that he creates. To paint his works, he uses the hair from a fly as a paintbrush.
Creating these detailed works is a very long and difficult process, and it isn't always enjoyable." It is a terrible dream when I start but a nice dream when I finish," he says. A single item can take at least several weeks to complete.
People have asked Willard why he chose to do something that needed effort and took time. His interest in creating small things began when he was five. He started creating houses and playgrounds for ants. Willard was not a strong student. He had difficulty in reading and spelling words. Some kids used to call him a loser. This made him feel small, so focusing on lite things helped him to feel big. The smaller his work got, the bigger he felt. A newspaper reporter said, "Willard has shown the world that he is special. Though_______ , he________."
7.Are Willard's art pieces big or small in size?
8.When people visit Willard's exhibitions, what question do they always ask?
9.What does Willard use to make a paintbrush?
10.What does the underlined word it in paragraph 4 refer to?
11.Why did Willard choose to do something that needed effort and took time?
12.What can be filled in the blanks in the last paragraph?

Word box[1] lure n.
1.Dad was proud of his son when he saw him get the fish, wasn’t he?
2.Complete the notice at the dock according to the story.
NOTICEBASS FISHING SEASON
From ______ to 24:00, 30 Nov.
Protect fish and limit the catch!!!
3.What did the boy say in Paragraph 8? Fill in the missing sentence.
4.What does the last sentence in the story mean? Explain it in your own words.
5.The word “CATCH” has two meanings in the title “CATCH OF A LIFETIME”. Explain your understanding.
6.Who would you like to recommend the story to? Why would you like to recommend it to him/her/them?
1.Yes, he was. 2.00:00, 30 June 3.But this is the biggest fish I’ve ever caught! I might never get such a huge one again! 4.The “same fish” here does not refer to the huge bass he caught that night. Instead, it symbolizes the valuable lesson he learned from that experience—honesty and abiding by the rules. Over the years, this lesson has been deeply rooted in his heart and has always influenced his life and behavior. So he does see that same fish again and again in his daily life, constantly recalling this important enlightenment. 5.①Literal meaning: It refers to the huge bass that the 11-year-old boy caught on the night of 29 June, which was the largest fish he had ever seen at that time. ②Deep meaning: It represents the precious spiritual gain from that experience. Under his father’s guidance, the boy chose to release the fish even though no one was around to supervise, and thus learned the important qualities of honesty, integrity and abiding by the rules. This is a valuable “catch” that benefits him for a lifetime. 6.I would recommend this story to teenagers. Because they are in a key period of forming values, and the story helps them understand the importance of honesty and following rules, as well as the significance of elders’ proper guidance.
1.根据“His father watched with admiration as the boy skillfully worked the fish alongside the dock.” Yes, he was.
2.根据“On 29 June, the day before the bass season opened, he and his father were fishing early in the evening.”及“The father lit a match and looked at his watch. It was 10 p.m.—two hours before the season opened.”
3.根据“‘There will be other fish,’ said his father.” But this is the biggest fish I’ve ever caught! I might never get such a huge one again!
The “same fish” here does not refer to the huge bass he caught that night.
故填①Literal meaning: It refers to the huge bass that the 11-year-old boy caught on the night of 29 June, which was the largest fish he had ever seen at that time.
I would recommend this story to teenagers. Because they are in a key period of forming values, and the story helps them understand the importance of honesty and following rules, as well as the significance of elders’ proper guidance.

13.When he started his first day of school in September at the age of 4. 14.Because Chinese is believed to be one of the most useful languages to know. 15.It started the Mandarin Excellence Programme in September last year. 16.No, it isn’t. 17.They performed the traditional folk song Jasmine in Mandarin. 18.It means that using someone’s own language can better connect with them emotionally, while using a language they understand only communicates with their rational side.

14.根据 “According to a report published by the British Council in September, about 51 percent of UK parents want their children to learn Chinese, as it’s believed to be one of the most useful languages to know.” Because Chinese is believed to be one of the most useful languages to know.
15.根据 “In fact, the popularity of Chinese drove the UK government to start the Mandarin Excellence Programme (卓越汉语教学项目) in September last year.” It started the Mandarin Excellence Programme in September last year.
16.根据 “The language has become the second most spoken foreign language in the United States this year, after only Spanish, with over 2.1 million speakers, according to a survey by 24/7 Wall St, a US financial news website.” 故填No, it isn’t.
17.根据 “In April, Arabella and Joseph Kushner, grandchildren of US President Donald Trump, performed the traditional folk song Jasmine in Mandarin for Chinese President Xi Jinping when the two leaders met in Florida.” They performed the traditional folk song Jasmine in Mandarin.
18.根据 “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.” It means that using someone’s own language can better connect with them emotionally, while using a language they understand only communicates with their rational side.
19.Yes, he did. 20.In 215 B.C. 21.Three. 22.It could send heavy stones from the city walls to attack the Roman ships far away. 23.It was made of mirrors. 24.Wisdom could be stronger than weapons./...
19.根据文中“Using a smart way, he once showed King Hiero that his crown was not made completely of gold.” Yes, he did.
20.根据文中“In 215 B.C., the Roman army attacked his home city of Syracuse.” 故填In 215 B.C.
21.文中提到了阿基米德发明的三种“战争机器”,分别是铁爪(the Iron Claw)、投石机(the stone thrower)和死亡射线(the Death Ray)。故填Three.
22.根据文中“Archimedes also invented the stone thrower, a large machine that could send heavy stones from the city walls to attack the Roman ships far away.” It could send heavy stones from the city walls to attack the Roman ships far away.
23.根据文中“Archimedes used many mirrors to catch sunlight and focus it on the Roman ships.” It was made of mirrors.
例如“Wisdom could be stronger than weapons.”,即智慧可以比武器更强大。 Wisdom could be stronger than weapons./...
Passage 5
25.No, he hasn’t. 26.He thought it was expensive. 27.Because QR code payments are not common in the UK shops. 28.90 minutes. 29.convenient;efficient (答案不唯一,符合“便捷、高效”类含义的形容词均可) 30.Shared bikes, digital payments, and food delivery.
25.根据第一段“I have been studying in China for a year,”可知,Tom是在中国留学一年,而非英国,应作否定回答。故填No, he hasn’t.
He thought it was expensive.
27.根据第三段“In the shop, I quickly found everything I needed. I wanted to pay with my smartphone, but the shopkeeper looked confused when I asked for a QR code.” Because QR code payments are not common in the UK shops.
28.根据第四段“When my food finally arrived 90 minutes later,”可知,外卖送达时间为90分钟。故填90 minutes.
Shared bikes, digital payments, and food delivery.
31.Yes, she did. 32.On the morning of her grandmother’s 70th birthday party. 33.Exams and competition overworked her hippocampus. 34.Grandma shared old family tales with Lily and Lily listened to her voice. 35.Memory wasn’t just about facts-it was about connections. 36.Lily might ask Kai to talk about his favorite memories, because storytelling helped her get her memory back. Also, Lily could suggest Kai write down his feelings and related things in a journal, just like she does now.
31.根据“By midnight, she could finally recall the secret ingredient in mooncakes: a pinch of cinnamon from Grandpa’s garden.” Yes, she did.

根据“She realized memory wasn’t just about facts-it was about connections.” Memory wasn’t just about facts—it was about connections.
Lily might ask Kai to talk about his favorite memories, because storytelling helped her get her memory back. Also, Lily could suggest Kai write down his feelings and related things in a journal, just like she does now.
Why?
37.Four. 38.He is the Oscar-winning director who is known for high-tech movies like Inception and Interstellar. 39.Because he doesn’t think it’s helpful for anything he does and staying off a smartphone gives him time to think. 40.Yes, it does. 41.try to stay away from digital distractions for a while. 42.Yes, I will. Because it can help me focus better on my studies and life.
37.根据文章第1段“a deliveryman... my friend Brad... a promotional email... the Eleme app”可知,有四件事打断了作者早上阅读。故填Four.
38.根据文章第2段“This experience reminded me of an article I had recently come across about Christopher Nolan. The Oscar-winning director is known for high-tech movies like Inception (《盗梦空间》) and Interstellar (《星际穿越》).” He is the Oscar-winning director who is known for high-tech movies like Inception and Interstellar.
39.根据文章第2段“I’ve never used email. I don’t think it’s helpful for anything I do,” he said. “And staying off a smartphone gives me time to think.” Because he doesn’t think it’s helpful for anything he does and staying off a smartphone gives him time to think.
40.根据文章第3段“However, that doesn’t mean Nolan’s ‘no email, no phone’ policy doesn’t make any sense.” Yes, it does.
故填try to stay away from digital distractions for a while.
Yes, I will. Because it can help me focus better on my studies and life.

Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答问题)
Jim’s grandpa had a beautiful garden. He knew everything about gardening. Every weekend, Jim got his hands dirty in the soil with Grandpa. Best of all, he loved seeing the daffodils (水仙花) come out in spring.
A few days later, Grandpa got a terrible headache and was sent to hospital. He needed to have an operation.
The following Sunday, Jim sat in the garden, worried and lonely. Grandma came to him. “Jim, you can do some gardening if you like,” she said.
“________,” said Jim.
“He isn’t here but he surely has taught you something, hasn’t he?” said Grandma.
“I guess he has really taught me a lot,” said Jim.
Jim thought about how happy Grandpa would be when he came back and saw the daffodils. He put on his rubber boots and spent the whole day tidying, digging, planting and watering.

J: How did you get the idea to include Luke in these events?

Many people want to own his art pieces. He's been honored by the Queen of England for his great art achievements. At every one of his exhibitions, the question is always the same. How does he do it?
The answer is very, very carefully. So carefully, in fact, that he actually slows his breathing down and works in between breaths. Willard usually works under a microscope using special tools that he creates. To paint his works, he uses the hair from a fly as a paintbrush.

People have asked Willard why he chose to do something that needed effort and took time. His interest in creating small things began when he was five. 【
