Last summer, I took a 5-day trip to Lijiang with my family — it was the most unforgettable travel experience I’ve ever had. Lijiang, in Yunnan Province, is famous for its well-preserved ancient town and beautiful natural scenery.
We arrived in Lijiang by plane on a sunny morning. The first thing that surprised me was the fresh air and blue sky. Unlike the busy city I live in, Lijiang felt quiet and peaceful. We checked into a small inn near the Ancient Town of Lijiang. The inn had a small yard with red flowers and a stone table — we often sat there to drink hot tea after a day of walking.
On the second day, we visited the Ancient Town. It has a history of over 800 years, with narrow stone streets and traditional wooden houses. Along the streets, there are many small shops selling hand-made crafts, like silver jewelry and tie-dye cloth. My mom bought a beautiful tie-dye scarf, and I picked a small wooden doll as a souvenir. We also walked along the small rivers that run through the town — local people call them “the veins of Lijiang.”
On the fourth day, we took a bus to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The mountain is covered with snow all year round, even in summer. When we got to the foot of the mountain, I felt a little cold, so I put on a thick coat. We took a cable car up to a viewing platform, and the view was amazing — white snow on the mountain tops, green forests below, and clouds floating around us. I took so many photos that my phone ran out of battery!
On the last day, we tried local food in a small restaurant. We ate Yunnan rice noodles, steamed buns with mushrooms, and a sweet dish made of purple potatoes. Everything tasted delicious, especially the rice noodles — they were spicy but full of flavor.
When we left Lijiang, I felt a little sad. This trip didn’t just let me see beautiful places; it also taught me about different cultures and lifestyles. I hope I can visit Lijiang again someday.
8. What is Lijiang famous for?
A. Busy city life. B. Modern tall buildings.
C. Ancient town and natural scenery. D. Hot and dry weather.
9. What did the writer’s mom buy in the Ancient Town?
A. A wooden doll. B. Silver jewelry. C. A tie-dye scarf. D. A thick coat.
10. How did the writer get to the viewing platform of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain?
A. By bus. B. By cable car. C. On foot. D. By bike.
11. What can we know from the writer’s trip?
A. The writer didn’t take any photos during the trip.
B. The writer tried local food on the first day.
C. The Ancient Town of Lijiang has a history of over 800 years.
D. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain has no snow in summer.

High school, for most teenagers, is a space where new adventures and challenges begin. I clearly remember my first day of high school. As I entered the school gate, I was greeted by a crowd of students. The hallways were filled with talking and laughter. It was a lot to handle, and I felt like a tiny fish in a vast ocean. I held my schedule tightly, trying to find the right classroom. My heart raced as I was scared of getting lost.
My first class was English, and as I walked in, I spotted familiar faces from my previous school. I breathed a sigh of relief as I took my seat, surrounded by friendly smiles. My English teacher, Mrs Johnson, introduced herself and made everyone feel comfortable. She explained what we would be studying during the semester and encouraged us to share our thoughts and ideas. The next class was mathematics, which happened to be my weakest subject. I felt a tight feeling in my stomach as I entered the classroom, but my maths teacher, Mr Smith, turned out to be very patient. He promised us that we would learn and improve together. His words of support made me feel more relaxed, and I began to believe that I could overcome my maths struggles.
During lunchtime, I sat with a group of students who quickly became my friends. We shared stories, and talked about our expectations for high school. It was during this time that I realised that high school wasn’t just about academic subjects; it was also about building friendships and making lasting memories.
The rest of the day flew by with a variety of classes, faces, and experiences. My first day of high school was filled with moments of anxiety, joy, and the promise of new beginnings.

A. Because of excitement and curiosity.
B. Because of the school’s welcoming atmosphere.
C. Because of fear of the unfamiliar environment.
D. Because of good preparations for the new school.
13. Which words can best describe the English teacher?
A. Generous and powerful. B. Inspiring and friendly.
C. Responsible and strict. D. Outgoing and warm-hearted.
14. How did the author feel when entering the maths class?
A. Curious. B. Relaxed.
C. Anxious. D. Confident.
15. What did the author realise during lunchtime?
A. High school only focused on studying.
B. High school was an extremely challenging place.
C. High school was full of old friends and classmates.
D. High school was also about wonderful social experiences.

【答案】Dear David,
I’m very sorry to hear that a conflict occurred between you and your mother because of your Internet addiction
In my opinion, you should apologize to your mother. Many students spend most of their time playing computer games or chatting aimlessly with others, which may not only result in poor health and decline in study but also loss of communication in the real world.
As students, we should devote our energy to study. When available, you may as well walk outside with your friends or take some exercise to keep fit instead of playing online games. Only in this way can you live and study happily and healthily.
Yours,
Li Hua
