Passage 1[2025黔东南一模]
During the Gannangxiang Lusheng Festival in Zhouxi town of Kaili,
Qiandongnan, Guizhou, people in traditional clothes danced with the
sound of the lusheng, a traditional instrument made of bamboo.
Gannangxiang is a word from the Miao language, meaning “the
downstream (下游) of the river, where gods gather”.
The festival is one of the most important traditional
festivals of the Miao people.
4
For over 400 years, it has been a big celebration in Kaili, and was
placed on the list of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in
2007.
Starting from Feb. 12th to 17th, 2025, people hosted many activities
to celebrate it. On Feb. 12th, the evening of the 15th day of the first
month in the Chinese calendar, a serious ceremony took place. The elders
led the lusheng players and villagers to a hall to offer food to the
ancestors and gods for fine weather, good harvests, and happiness in the
Chinese New Year. The next day, the festival officially began.
5
Thousands of Miao people, dressed in the finest clothes, gathered in a
square to sing and dance. One of the most interesting activities was the
traditional clothing parade (游行) on Feb. 14th.
“I come here because of its fame. The lusheng music, the songs and
dances, and the clothes allow me to experience the customs of Miao and
cultural beauty here. It was truly worth the trip,” says Chen Jun, a
visitor from Dazhou, Sichuan Province.
According to local people, the ancient traditions are brought back to
life by the event, and they believe attending the festival is the best way
to keep the culture alive.#1.5

Passage 2[2025铜仁一模]
The beautiful leaf-vein embroidery (叶脉绣) in Tongren, Guizhou,
has made Guizhou embroidery charming in China.
Leaf-vein embroidery dates back to the Song Dynasty (960—1279).
In southwestern China, people have used it to share messages among
many ethnic (民族的) groups.
Yang Li, a master of this skill, has used traditional
embroidery styles from the Miao, Tujia and Dong ethnic
groups in her workers. She also mixed traditional beauty with
modern skills.#1.3
12
Leaf-vein embroidery is highly valued because it is difficult to make.
The steps include choosing and drying the leaves and then creating and
embroidering the patterns (图案).
Since leaf-vein embroidery needs long and hard work, it's not easy
to keep this traditional skill alive.
“I have brought this style to universities, communities and villages
and chosen skilled workers to learn leaf-vein embroidery, but very few
have kept going,” Yang Li said.
In 2011, Yang Li opened a processing center, creating jobs for more
than 500 women. As a result, almost every worker now has enough of
their own hand-made embroideries to fill a museum.
“I feel I have a duty. In my lifetime, I must improve and pass on
this skill,” she said.
In 2022, Yang Li set up the Guizhou Embroidery Intangible Cultural
Heritage Industry Base, and has shared leaf-vein embroidery through short
videos with her student, Yang Xinyu. “Leaf-vein embroidery is a treasure,”
said Yang Xinyu. “Under the influence of my teacher Yang Li, I have
kept on learning this skill and hope that more young people will return
to their hometowns to carry on the skill.”#1.9

Passage 3
Chinese shadow play (皮影戏) is a kind of folk art with a long
history and rich cultural meaning. Artists play with puppets (木偶) behind
the screen while singing to tell the story.
The shadow characters are usually made of transparent (透明的)
plastic or the skin of cows and donkeys (驴). They are carefully shaped
by talented Chinese artists and are then painted in
bright colors. The topics of the shadow play are from
legend to fairy tale, kungfu story to love story. Some
of them are known to all like The West Chamber
(《西厢记》) and Mr. Dongguo.
18
The roots of shadow play in China can be dated back to the early
Han Dynasty. It is said that Emperor Wu of Western Han Dynasty was
sad about the death of his loving wife. To help him get over his pain,
Minister Li made a shadow of her and this made the emperor believe
that it was his lover's spirit.
With the trade and culture exchange, shadow play has made itself
known to some Asian and European countries. In many areas of
Indonesia, shadow play is now still a most important performance. It is
actually a reflection of Chinese history, culture and value.
19
But modern media such as television and movies lead to the decline
(衰落) of this ancient art. Many show play groups have disappeared.
Luckily, both Chinese artists and the government are trying their best to
protect it. Shadow play is now alive and warmly welcomed among young
people in some areas in China. It leads to a renewed Chinese performing
art all over the world.

Passage 5
Have you ever heard of sanfu days? In China, the “Chinese dog
days of summer” is also called sanfu days. They mark the hottest days
of summer in a year.
Sanfu days refer to three periods in the Chinese lunar calendar: toufu,
zhongfu and mofu. In Chinese, “Fu” has the meaning of “hiding”. So the
character is also a suggestion for people to stay at home to “hide” from
the strong heat outdoors in summer.
33
Sanfu days usually come between mid-July and mid-August. During
these days, Chinese people follow different traditional ways to deal with
the heat and stay healthy. In Changsha, local people usually eat roosters
(公鸡) during sanfu days, especially during toufu. That's because it is
always hot with heavy rainfall in summer. Local people believe that
eating roosters can clear the wet in the body. And there is even an old
saying that goes, “A rooster at the start of sanfu days, a healthy body
the whole year.”
Another traditional way is drinking Fu Tea on this day. It is a
special tea made from different natural ingredients, like honeysuckle
(金银花), chrysanthemum (菊花) and licorice (甘草精). These ingredients
are carefully chosen for their cooling and heat. In the high temperatures
of sanfu days, people often feel hot, angry, and get heat-related illnesses
easily. Drinking Fu Tea can effectively relieve (减轻) these discomforts.
Besides, receiving sanfutie is also popular in China during sanfu
days. It is a kind of sanfu medicinal patch (贴片). Sanfutie is a bandage
made of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Many people use sanfutie
because it's believed that doing so during the hottest summer days is
helpful in fighting some winter illnesses like coughing.#1.4

Passage 6
Kongming Lanterns, also known as sky lanterns, have a long and
fascinating history. It's said that during the Three Kingdoms period,
Zhuge Liang first invented them. When he was in a difficult situation, he
made lanterns with thin paper and let them fly into the sky, successfully
sending messages. This is how Kongming Lanterns got their
name.
38
In ancient times, Kongming Lanterns were used in the army. As
time went by, people began to see them as symbols of hope and good
luck. Kongming Lanterns are an important part of Chinese culture. People
write their wishes on the lanterns and then let them fly into the sky,
believing that their dreams will come true. They are often seen as a way
to pray for good luck. During festivals like the Lantern Festival and the
Mid-Autumn Festival, Kongming Lanterns light up the night sky, creating
a warm and festive atmosphere (节日气氛).
39
The traditional steps to make a Kongming Lantern are quite simple.
First, make a bamboo frame (框架) to form the shape of the lantern.
Next, cover it with thin and lightweight paper. Finally, attach (系) a
small fuel block (燃料块) at the bottom. In modern times, there have
been many innovations (创新). Some people use LED lights instead of
fuel blocks, because they are safer and can save more energy. Some are
made of environmentally friendly materials.
Nowadays, Kongming Lanterns are used in creative ways. They are
often used in art exhibitions. They are also a popular choice for
weddings. In the future, with the development of technology, Kongming
Lanterns may be controlled smartly, making them safer and more
interesting.#4

Passage 7
In recent years, we have learned a lot about Yingge dance from
social media, and videos of the dance have drawn millions of people's
attention. Its exciting performance at the 2025 Spring Festival Gala also
impressed many people.
This winter vacation, I went back to my hometown Shantou,
a place known for its rich culture and traditions. Luckily, I
had the chance to watch Yingge dance up close. I stood on
the street with many locals and visitors, waiting for the
performers to arrive. Soon, hearing the sound of gongs (锣)
47
The performers wore bright, colorful clothes and carried wooden
sticks. They moved their sticks skillfully, making them seem like part of
their bodies. Sometimes, they shouted, making the performance even more
exciting. The mix of music, movement and sound brought joy to
everyone.
and sticks, I saw a red flag with the words “Shengqian Yingge Team”
leading the way, followed by a big group of energetic dancers.#1.1
The biggest surprise was seeing my uncle dance! After the show, he
told me, “I'm proud to be part of Yingge dance. It helps spread our
culture and makes Chinese people more confident in our traditions. We
also made the dance faster and clothes more colorful to interest young
people.” His words made me realize they weren't just keeping the
tradition, but also changing it for today. That's why Shantou now has
over 50 Yingge teams, many with teenage members.
By mixing old and new ideas, Yingge dance helps people love their
culture and feel connected. The cultural traditions have also been
developed. They can stay alive if we pass them on in creative ways.#1.4

类别二 事物介绍 [2024省一模]
Passage 8[2025泸州改编]
Farming and creativity don't often go hand in hand, but rice paddy
art (稻田画) is turning ordinary fields into pictures. However, you may
be asking, “How is the art created from only rice plants?” The secret is
to use different kinds of rice seeds (种子) to “draw” pictures in the
fields. As the plants grow, each type shows a different
color, from green to purple, to bring an artwork to life.
53
Creating rice paddy art takes a lot of work and planning. First,
farmers draw the pictures on computers to work out where and how
to plant the rice. Then, they mark the design on a map of the field.
This helps show which kind of rice should be planted in each section.
After that, they're ready to sow (播种) the seeds, either with the help
of drones (无人机) or volunteers. When rice grows tall, different colors
will come out in the fields.#1.1
Rice paddy art in China started in 2010 in Shenyang, showing
dragons and Chinese paintings. Then the practice started to catch on in
some other places like Harbin and Hangzhou. On October 24, 2023, a
huge 3D rice field painting in Tianjin set a Guinness World Record!
Named “Celebrating Harvest, Promoting Harmony”, it covers 50,798
square meters—bigger than any other 3D rice field artwork ever around
the world.
55
Rice paddy art is a fun way to bring beauty and energy to the
countryside. A great number of tourists come to the countryside to enjoy
the new art form. It is a great example of how tradition and creativity
can go together to uplift communities.

Passage 9[2025贵阳花溪区校级二模]
Forming a habit depends on the habit, you, and your efforts.
Scientists say it could take from 21 days to eight months. Many believe
it takes 21 days to form a habit. This idea came from Maxwell Maltz, a
doctor. He found that his patients spent about 21 days getting used to a
new way of seeing themselves.
But not all habits take 21 days to
develop. Some need more time to become a
part of your life. Mark Vahrmeyer, a
therapist (心理学家), says the 21-day rule
62
Charles Duhigg explains the “habit loop”. A habit has three parts: a
trigger, the behavior, and a reward. For example, stress (a trigger) might
lead to overeating (the behavior). Overeating can bring some comfort
(a reward). If this repeats, the brain will see stress as a chance for a
reward.
How long it takes to form a habit depends on the habit. A 2009
study showed it can take 18 to 254 days to form a habit. Simple habits
like drinking water are quicker to form than harder ones like exercising.
seems easy. But often, it takes longer to form a habit.
A 2016 review found that believing in yourself is the key to
forming habits. If you think you can form a habit, you likely will.
Vahrmeyer suggested that it was important to make the habits more
attractive (吸引人的). “If the process of building your habit is not
attractive, you are unlikely to stick to your goals,” Vahrmeyer said. He
advised making the process as easy as possible. For example, if the goal
is to go to the gym three times per week, a person should pick a nearby
gym.#1.5

Passage 10[2025毕节织金县三模]
A show in Baoji, Shaanxi Province, told how ancient pillows (枕头)
could be much more than just places to put our heads while we sleep. It
displayed (陈列) 121 ancient pillows from the Western Han Dynasty until
the early 20th century.
68
“These pillows, made of different kinds of materials and designs, are
not just daily things, but also have cultural and historical value,” said
Guo Jing, director of the show. “They show interesting folk cultures and
carry memories of the past. We hope that these treasures can help
visitors enter the world of the ancients.”
In ancient China, pillows expressed people's good wishes. Cat-shaped
pillows, for example, stood for hopes that a couple would enjoy good
health while growing old together.
69
A special pillow was the pearl (珍珠) one found in the tomb of the
King of Nanyue, a kingdom that was founded after the fall of the Qin
Dynasty, mainly including what are now Guangdong and Guangxi. The
pillow was made of 470 unprocessed pearls, showing the high position of
its owner.
Another special pillow was a tiger-head one, which stood for courage
and strength. “In ancient times, these pillows were often for children.
And they were the symbol of good luck and healthy growth,” Guo
explains.
70
There are several ideas about why ancient pillows are hard, rather
than soft. One idea is that hard pillows better support the neck and head,
improve blood circulation (循环) in the eyes and improve eyesight. Also,
ceramic (陶瓷) pillows are cooler and can help lower body temperatures,
making people feel more comfortable in the summer heat.

Passage 12
Fire is common nowadays! No one knows exactly how or when our
ancestors (祖先) first used and learned to control it, but it clearly
changed the world.
Experts think that over 400,000 years ago, early humans might have
seen lightning start a fire or perhaps someone rubbed (摩擦) two rocks
together and the sparks that flew out caused grass to start burning. Either
way, fire quickly became very important to human life.
83
Fire helped early humans survive (生存) by making it easier to live
in cooler environment. Our bodies gradually changed, losing their thick
hair. This change allowed us to hunt during the hottest parts of the day
when animals were resting and easier to catch.
Fire also had a deep influence on our social lives. The light that fire
provided made people able to stay up later, giving them time to make
tools, clothing, and other necessities. It also provided a chance for
sharing stories and becoming closer.#1.3
When meat was accidentally dropped into a fire, humans discovered
cooking. Cooked food is softer and gives us more nutrients (营养), which
helped our ancestors grow taller and develop bigger brains. People began
living longer.#1.4
85
Through history, people have found different fields to use fire.
Artists would use burnt sticks to draw on cave walls, and potters (陶工)
found that heating clay made pots more lasting. Even today, farmers
continue to use fire to clear fields and prepare the land for planting.
86
In the late 1700s, people discovered that boiling water produced
steam, which was later used to power steam engines. This led to the
development of steamships and steam trains, developing transportation.
In a word, from its beginning to its many creative uses, fire has
played an important part in shaping our world.

Passage 13
When your ears feel itchy (发痒的), you might want to use a cotton
swab (棉签), called a Q-tip, to clean them. But is it a good way to
clean your ears? And what do you know about the Q-tip?
The Q-tip has a long history. In the 1920s, a man named Leo
Gerstenzang invented it by accident. He saw his wife trying to clean
their child's ears by using a toothpick (牙签) with cotton on
the end. Leo thought he could make something better, so he
created the Q-tip with clean cotton on a wooden stick. Since
then, the invention has been a huge success! Every year,
93
people all over the world make millions of Q-tips. If you lined them up,
you could go to the moon and back more than three times!
Although Q-tips were made to clean the inside of the ears, the truth
is that our ears are perfectly able to clean themselves. Extra earwax
(额外的耳垢) usually comes out naturally as time goes by. We can also
wash it away when we clean the outside of our ears. Now, bags of Q-
tips often have warnings that say “Don't use them inside the ears”,
because they can make earwax problems even worse. Doctors also say it
is not safe to put Q-tips inside our ears, as they can actually push
earwax deeper into the ears and even hurt our hearing.
In short, it's important to use Q-tips safely and not to put them into
our ears. Understanding our bodies' natural way of cleaning can help our
ears stay healthy.#4

类别三 名人传记 [2025省一模]
Passage 14[2025贵阳乌当区二模]
Nan Rendong was an excellent Chinese scientist who became known
as “the father of FAST (500米口径球面射电望远镜)”, the world's largest
radio telescope. His amazing life shows how strong will and clear goals
can achieve a big thing.
Nan was born in 1945 in Jilin Province. In 1963, he entered
Tsinghua University to study radio technology. There, he stood out not
only for his intelligence but also his strong will. Besides his major, Nan
100
worked hard to master English, believing it would help him learn from
international research. After graduating, Nan worked at several research
centers. In 1993, he suggested building China's first great radio
telescope—an challenging project that many foreign experts doubted
whether it could succeed. From 1994 to 2015, Nan led his team across
China's mountains to find the perfect location. Finally, they chose a
natural low land in Guizhou Province.
During the process of building FAST, Nan and his team faced lots
of difficulties, including bad weather and technical problems. There were
times when the project nearly stopped, but Nan often worked late into
the night and could always find the solutions. When completed in 2016,
FAST became China's most important astronomical achievement. It can
pick up weak radio signals from faraway star systems, helping scientists
search for alien life and study the origin of the universe.
Nan passed away in 2017 because of cancer, but his influence has
continued. An asteroid (小行星) was named after him in 2018. The
Chinese government awarded him the national honor of “People's Scientist”
in 2019. More importantly, he inspires countless young people to study
hard. His story proves that with great passion (热情) and strong will,
even the greatest dreams can come true.#1.3

On August 16, 2025, Pang Zhongwang received the “Touching China
2024” Award. His story, from a poor boy facing many difficulties to a
role model, has touched and encouraged many people.#2
109
Pang was born into a very poor family. His father has a mental
(精神的) illness, and his mother who was born with a serious back
problem, could hardly move. Pang himself has had heart disease since
birth. To help his mother, he once walked around the village to borrow
money for her treatment and even picked up old things to sell for money.
But no matter how hard life got, Pang stayed happy. He always believed
that studying hard could change life.
110
In 2017, Pang entered Tsinghua University with top scores. At first,
he worried he might not do well, but he soon found his strong interest
in scientific research. Even when experiments failed many times, he kept
trying. His mother always told him to stay strong. “My mom smiles
every day—why should I be sad?” he once said.
Unluckily, his mother passed away in 2020, just before he got the
chance to study for a doctorate (博士学位) at Tsinghua. Today, he has
published many important research papers. He hopes to use science to
help the country, a dream he works hard for every day. He even helped
a girl change to her favorite school subject, showing how his story lights
the way for others.#2.3

Sage of calligraphy (书圣)
Wang Xizhi was born in Linyi of Shandong Province. He used to be
a general and officer in the Jin Dynasty, a famous calligrapher of the
Eastern Jin Dynasty. Wang is still known as the calligraphy sage.
115
Wang Xizhi's uncles and cousins were all famous calligraphers of
their time. At seven, Wang began a systematic (系统的) study of
calligraphy under a calligrapher, Wei Shuo. He kept copying the Wei-style
calligraphy for years and learned much from the works of calligraphers.
To practice calligraphy, wherever he went, he would try to find out
the styles of famous calligraphers and copy them, collecting many
calligraphic materials. There were writing brushes, ink sticks (墨条) and
ink stones in his study, yard and even outside the toilet. Whenever he
had any thoughts about a good-structured character, he would write them
down right away.
116
Wang Xizhi was good at many types of calligraphy but the xingshu
style Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection (《兰亭集序》) is the
most popular of his works. There is a story behind this work. In 353,
Wang Xizhi invited famous people to get together at a party with 41
guests at the Orchid Pavilion, where they drank. The guests were asked
to write poems. The poems were collected, and Wang Xizhi wrote
Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection on his own, describing how
happy these men are. His talents in calligraphy was fully shown during it.
117
The Song Dynasty scholar Mi Fu called Preface to the Orchid
Pavilion Collection is the world's best work in xingshu style. It's said
that Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty treasured the work so much
that he had it buried in his tomb (坟墓).

Feng Yinan, an 88-year-old woman from Jiangsu Province, has
amazed the public by taking 97 exams since 2009 to get three university
degrees in Nanjing.
124
With a head of white hair, Feng stood out among young students in
exam rooms. When people asked her why she kept taking self-study
exams at such an old age, she said, “Self-study exams are my lifelong
dream.”
Feng first started her self-study in 1988. But she was doing a busy
job at that time. Besides, as a mother, she had to take care of two
daughters. As a result, she gave up her dream of getting a better
education.
After Feng retired (退休), her old dream woke up. She worked up
her courage to sign up for the exams. That autumn, at the age of 72,
she picked up the textbooks that she had laid down for many years. It
was not easy for her to remember things as she aged. The rapid
development of knowledge made it more difficult for her. But she never
gave up. Feng was strict with herself. During the years, she put her
studies in the first place. She gave up all free-time activities—no parties,
no birthday celebrations.
With strong will, Feng planned and finished her self-study exams.
Over 16 years, Feng sat 97 exams and achieved passing grades in 44
subjects.
“These exams not only made my dream come true, but also helped
me keep up with modern times,” Feng said.
Now, Feng has decided to put an end to her studies for health
reasons. She hopes her story can encourage young people to catch the

Passage 18[2025泰安改编]
When Paul Jackson was a boy, he lived near an old copper smelter
(冶炼厂) which polluted the environment seriously. A beautiful forest
nearby was made into a wasteland. He vowed (发誓) that someday he
would make the land green again.
While at college, he chose botany (植物学). He met a professor who
was an expert in ecology (生态学). He told Paul it would take about
twenty thousand years to make that wasteland green again.
131
Then Paul got married and had some kids. But his dream would not
die. He kept thinking about it. One night he took some action. He left
for the wasteland secretly with a backpack full of seedlings and started
planting. For seven hours, he planted the seedlings. Every week, he made
his secret journey and did the same job, but most of them died. For
fifteen years he did this.
Once, when all his young trees burned to the ground because of a
careless sheepherder, Paul broke down and cried. Then he got up and
kept planting. Freezing winds and terrible heat, landslides and floods and
fires destroyed (毁坏) his work time and time again. However, he kept
planting.
Very slowly, amazing things began to take place. Now the place is
fourteen thousand acres of trees, grass and bushes. Many kinds of
wildlife live here. Paul received many environmental awards. His hair
turned white, but he managed to keep that impossible vow he made to
himself as a child.

Passage 20
On an autumn morning, Ms. Carter, a geography teacher brought her
students to a riverbank. Suddenly, she held up a smooth pebble (鹅卵石)
from the riverbank. She raised a question that would stay in her students'
minds for years: “Is this stone big or small?”
145
The class laughed. “It's tiny! Smaller than a candy!” And they
answered in loud voices at the same time.
The teacher smiled and said nothing. She took the pebble with her.
They went on and arrived at the foot of the mountain. Then the teacher
placed the pebble at the mountain's foot, and she asked again, “How
about now?”
“It's still small,” they replied.
The teacher kept smiling and walked on. When they reached the top
of the mountain, she held the pebble against the broad horizon (地平线)
and repeated her question. Silence fell. Compared with the mountain, the
pebble remained physically unchanged. Yet against the endless sky, it
suddenly appeared meaningful.
Sarah, a quiet girl who loved astronomy (天文学), said, “It looks…
important. Like a planet floating in space.”
“Exactly!” Ms. Carter said. “Perspective (视角) shapes reality. What
seems insignificant today might be important tomorrow. The ‘smallest’
student in class could become a great thinker; the ‘weakest’ tree might
live longer than all of us.”
The lesson wasn't just about rocks. Students started to see how one
friendly sentence could make people smile all day, or how one good
thought could help a neighborhood. They learned that seeing isn't just
with eyes, but about how you choose to see things—like changing glasses
to see clearer, and being wise enough to try different “glasses” when old
ones don't work.#2.5
