It's hard to describe in a few words. So let me start from when my school asked me to join a teaching program in the countryside last spring. We got ready in february, but our group did not leave until early september, right after the summer break. While living in the village, I started working on my own studies. Professor Wilson, who teaches me sociality, and doctor lee, my education teacher, often send me books and homework. What I remember best are the things you cannot learn in a classroom, the look in a child's eyes when they understand a hard question, or the sound of students reading in the morning. Those months really opened my mind. Some people may wonder if this was a good idea to leave campus for a whole term, but I believe IT was very valuable. Becoming close with those students has changed how I see the world. Teaching is a special experience, and I hope some of you will try that one day. Good morning class. Honestly, I can't believe my dreams come true. As a Young man, I have always been imagining moving to los Angeles one day and putting my whole heart into music. Of course, at the time, this seems like a very distant hope, but thanks to my friends, supporters and wife, i'm here today. First, I released three twelve song records, which slowly gained attention around my hometown in northern england and some nearby regions like scotland and ireland. And now my latest project, which was just a single song, caught the world's attention. For that, i'd said, only happened because I refused to give up through the upside downs of my career. I did IT all for the love of music. So being recognized for this award means a lot to me, to all the Young musicians out there. You can do IT too, plus to all the fans and anyone enjoying my music, i've done this for you. This award is for all of us. May many more great things come in the future. Now put your hands together for our host bobber men with the next award. Honestly, I can't believe my dreams has come true. My journey into video makings started when a friend invited me to visit her father at work in AT. V studio. During the visit, the camera Operator gave me a chance to try filming, and IT was an incredible experience. Inspired by this, I convinced my parents to sign me up for a film course. The course ran every saturday from ten AM to two PM. From september to may, with a break in december. In the final month, we had extra sessions in the afternoon to prepare for our projects. We worked together in groups. We used our small cameras and equipment to seize the beauty around us, turning everyday moments into short videos that told stories. All the necessary equipment, like computers and cameras, was provided for us. The only thing we had to bring was batteries. At the end of the course, I received a certificate which made all the hard work worthwhile. Hello everyone, i'm glad to be here with you today. The TV series centers on a former tennis star who becomes a powerful part-robot person after a life-saving operation. Inspired by this, Howard dreamed of a career to create artificial legs for the disabled. However, her plans to study medicine fell apart upon realizing how much she hated biology! Luckily, she found a new interest in robotics. After receiving an engineering degree from Brown University in 1993, she attended the University of Southern California, achieving both a master’s and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. In 2005, she became an associate professor at Georgia Tech and founded a research group focusing on human-robot interaction. In 2008, her SnoMote robots were internationally recognized for their ability to independently study climate change in remote areas. Later, Howard continued to show how technology can be used to make the world a better place. 4. A 5. C 6. B 7. C 【原文】 M: Good morning, class. I want to share about my most meaningful term. It’s hard to describe in a few words, so let me start from when my school asked me to join a teaching program in the countryside last spring. We got ready in February, but our group did not leave until early September, right after the summer break. While living in the village, I started working on my own studies. Professor Wilson, who teaches me sociology, and Dr Lee, my education teacher, often sent me books and homework. What I remember best are the things you cannot learn in a classroom. The look in a child’s eyes when they understand a hard question or the sound of students reading in the morning, those months really opened my mind. Some people may wonder if it was a good idea to leave campus for a whole term, but I believe it was very valuable. Becoming close with those students has changed how I see the world. Teaching is a special experience and I hope some of you will try it one day. 8. B 9. C 10. C 【原文】 W: Hello, everyone. Today, we are honored to have a special guest. Welcome Liu Jichen. Once the image is recognized by the AI, people can collect points and use them to buy gifts, or purchase charity meals donated to children in poor rural areas. W: Well, when did you begin to work on this program? M: At the end of 2017, I organized a team of 20 members to start it. In the following year, the mini-program was officially put into operation on Oct. 16th, World Food Day. W: How do you have the idea of creating this program? M: The idea came from my experience in a canteen. One day, I found that a restaurant would give diners who finished off their food a card. And the diners can get small gifts after collecting a certain number of cards. W: Your technological innovation is a good way to reduce food waste. M: Thanks. I hope our efforts can start a new trend among the younger generation by encouraging them to cherish their food. 11. B 12. A 13. A 14. B 【原文】 W: Hi, Alex. Can I ask you a few questions? M: I spend around three hours a day studying, usually in the evening. W: Do you exercise regularly? M: Yes, I go to the gym three times a week, and I spend about an hour each time. W: How do you spend your free time? M: I watch movies or series for about two hours a day, and I also play video games occasionally. W: What about social activities? First, I released three twelve song records, which slowly gained attention around my home town in northern England and some nearby regions like Scotland and Ireland. And now my latest project, which was just a single song, caught the world’s attention. For that, I’d say it only happened because I refused to give up. The course ran every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., from September to May with a break in December. In the final month, we had extra sessions in the afternoons to prepare for our projects. We worked together in groups. We used our small cameras and equipment to seize the beauty around us, turning everyday moments into short videos that told stories. All the necessary equipment, like computers and cameras, was provided for us. The only thing we had to bring was batteries. The inventor of the modern car seat belt was a Swedish man called Nils Bohlin. Bohlin had trained as a mechanical engineer at college before gaining his first employment as an aircraft designer. He did well, so was invited to join a car manufacturing company as a safety engineer. Bohlin had often worked on improving seats and seat belts for planes since starting his working life in 1942. After joining the car manufacturer in 1958, he spent the following 12 months developing his ideas for cars, and then a car featuring Bohlin’s creation on both front seats was introduced, making it the earliest example of a vehicle with modern seat belts. However, it took many years for them to become widely accepted. Japan made it a rule that everyone must wear seat belts in their cars across the whole country in 1971. A year earlier, two of the six states in Australia had introduced similar rules. France was the first European nation to create seat belt laws several years later. It’s incredible to think that some investment in research and development in the manufacturing industry has had such a huge global impact. 33. A 34. B 35. C 36. M: Many people start climbing because they’ve watched a television documentary about climbing a mountain and a good friend enjoyed reading the biography of a famous climber. My experience was more unusual, though. When I was nine, I started at a new school where there was an amazing artwork on the wall. It showed some snow-covered mountains and I thought, I want to climb those! W: You climbed your first big mountain when you were ten. How did you feel beforehand? M: I was convinced I’d be really nervous before we set off, but the opposite was actually true, which I couldn’t quite believe. I went with very experienced climbers whom I trusted. W: You decided to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents. Why was that? M: My grandfather became ill and there wasn’t much financial support for scientists trying to find a cure, so I asked people to sponsor me to climb the seven peaks. I became the youngest person ever to climb them, though that wasn’t my reason for doing it. 37. B 38. B 39. A 【原文】 W: In 2022, I scored my dream job at a travel magazine based in Bangkok. I moved there from my hometown, Sydney, with my husband, Lee, who works as a photographer and often captures beautiful scenery of our journeys for my articles. Our Sydney life had become routine and we wanted a change of scenery and escape from office jobs to eat our way through Asia and tell stories along the way. Through work, my offices ranged from mountain lodges in northern Vietnam to tents in the jungles of Laos or diverse local villages in China. On top of my day to day work, Lee and I launched a travel blog called Stranger Talk, where we published the stories that magazines were not interested in. Our blog led us to incredible adventures, but apart from our blog readers, we had no one else to talk about our colorful life in Bangkok with. It was difficult to make friends in Thailand. I had a few Thai friends from work who I would have lunch with at the local market, but it was hard to break the cultural barrier. Without speaking the same language as them, I could never be in their inner circle. Lee and I realized we were lonely even though we have each other. To support my wife’s career, in 2014 I decided to leave my job and become a stay-at-home dad. That same year, I launched my writing blog to record my journey into fiction writing. My introduction to book blogging came through Kelly Lacey of Love Books Group, who organized a blog tour for my first novel. This was a lovely experience where people who were passionate about reading read and talked about my novel! It seemed like such a lovely community that I wanted to be part of it. In early 2020, I joined Anne Cater’s book connectors group. On my blog, I focus on two types of posts: in-depth reflections on the nature of writing and honest book reviews. I try to be positive but will also point out some concerns or questions about the book — no matter who the writer is — because I feel the review is more useful this way. If I really don’t like the book, I won’t publish a review. Ever since I started book blogging, I’ve been reading much more. Also, book blogging has helped deepen my appreciation of literature, doubling the joy of reading while sharpening my writing skills. 62. A 63. C 64. B 65. M: Yes, this is something fairly new for me. Actually, pottery runs in the family. My mother is a potter, and when I was younger, I used to watch her in her studio. I just remember thinking, how on earth could I ever reach that standard? W: So what made you take up pottery? M: I was 40 years old with my own computer company that I’d set up when I left school, and I was feeling a bit tired of the same routine. And I reasoned with myself that the artistic side of me had been buried for quite long enough. W: So you became a student again? M: I did. My brain was still working, obviously, but it was my body that was being exercised. That was a challenge for me after sitting at a computer for years. Other young students might be surprised to see this older man full of enthusiasm. W: What will you be doing after this exhibition? M: I’m eager to make more pots. Big pots are what I want to make. Also, the gallery tells me pots in bright colors are welcomed. But that’s more my mother’s thing because it’s complicated. 66. B 67. A 68. A 69. During one summer vacation, I worked for an Internet company and in the evening, I spent another four hours working on my website. It’s not easy to develop a business. If you hope to be financially independent, you must do something while you are young and you can work long hours. For a long time, I was editing nearly ten documents a night. I spent fifty hours a week doing this. It was hard. Then I hired my first four employees, and I never edited a single document again. The next year, I turned down my summer job at a big investment bank and spent the vacation expanding CyberEdit. In December, Wired magazine contacted me and asked me to write an article about my life. After the article appeared in March, interested investors began to contact me. In June, one of them decided to invest a large sum of money in the company. So the Wired article brought me over a million dollars in funding! More than anything else, good publicity helps a new business attract investors and customers. Investors came to me, not because I was making money and employing fifty college students, but because they read about it in Wired magazine, and saw it on ABC World News Tonight. My advice to young people who consider starting a company is: Do it now! Don’t delay starting it until you’ve finished school or had some “real-world experience”. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
