【中考真题】
(Mr. Wormwood sells stolen cars and tries to get more money by cheating others. Matilda, a book lover, hates that.)
Scene One
One morning, just when Mr. Wormwood was setting off to cheat others again, Matilda walked into his room quietly to get the hat he wore each day to work. She was too short and had to get it with a walking-stick.
Holding the hat in one hand and a bottle of superglue in the other, Matilda put some glue very carefully all round the inside rim (边) of the hat. Then she carefully put the hat back.
Scene Two
That evening, when Mr. Wormwood got home, he cried, “I can’t take my hat off and I have to keep it all day!”
“Don’t be silly,” his wife said. “Come here. I’ll take it off for you.”
“Ow-w-w! Don’t do that! Let go! You’ve nearly killed me!” he shouted.
“What’s the matter?” Matilda was standing at the door with a book in her hand.
Mr. Wormwood looked at her doubtfully, but said nothing.
“It must be superglue. Haven’t I told you not to touch the dirty thing?” Mrs. Wormwood said.
“I haven’t touched it!” Mr. Wormwood shouted. He turned and looked again at Matilda, who looked back at him with large innocent (无辜的) brown eyes.
Scene Three
Mr. Wormwood had to keep his hat on all through dinner. Later, he discovered that the worst thing about having the hat was not to take a shower in it, but to sleep in it. “I expect it will be loose (松动) by the morning and then it’ll be taken off easily,” Mrs. Wormwood said.
Scene Four
But the hat wasn’t loose by the morning. So Mrs. Wormwood cut the thing off his head, bit by bit, first the top and then the rim.
At breakfast Matilda said to Mr. Wormwood, “You must try to get those bits off your head. They look like little brown insects. And people will think you’ve got lice (虱子).”
“Be quiet!” Mr. Wormwood shouted. “Just keep your mouth shut!”
All in all, it is a most satisfying exercise. But don’t get your hopes up that it has taught the cheater a good lesson.

Standing on the beach of Copacabana, I come to realize that any understanding of Brazil really begins on its beaches. Everyone here has his or her perfect beach and is ready to tell you where to find it. I’m happy to take people’s advice, but my final goal is to find my own dream beach.
I head to Bahia, a place with Brazil’s best coastline. Over the centuries, people of many races have arrived here, creating a wonderful cultural mix. This mix influences Bahia’s language, food, music, and dance.
On arriving at one of Bahia’s best beaches —Prainha, I discover its golden sand lined by a row of perfect trees, moving softly in the ocean wind. As I enter the water, I have the feeling of swimming through moonlight. Prainha’s beauty is like something you might see in a postcard. But for me, it’s a little too perfect. ▲
I continue my search, heading north to Maceio, a fisherman’s beach. Boats lie on their sides while nets hang out to dry on lines between fishermen’s houses. We eat on the beach and later rest near the table. It’s a great day, but I have one final place to visit.
A few hundred kilometers out in the Atlantic, the islands of Fernando de Noronha are a national park, rich with birds and sea life. I visit a number of beaches on Fernando, but I leave the best one for last.
The beach at Praia do Leao has perfect sand, sea and sky. The water is pale blue and warm, alive with colorful fish and other sea life; the sand is the color of honey. The rocks and strong winds have the touch of wildness I was looking for. I dig my toes in the sand deeply and imagine I can hold on to this place forever.

On Saturday morning, all the summer world was sweet and fresh. There was cheer in every face and a spring in every step, except Tom Sawyer.
Aunt Polly made him paint their fence (栅栏) as a punishment. It was 90 feet long and 9 feet high. He stared at the fence, and all gladness left him. He painted one board and stopped. “This will take forever,” he sighed (叹气).
He knew the boys with all kinds of toys would soon come along and make fun of him —the very thought of it burnt him like fire. At this dark and hopeless moment, an idea came to him! He went back to work quietly.
Ben Rogers came along the road. He was singing happily and carrying a big apple.
Tom went on painting—paid no attention to him. Ben stared a moment and called Tom.
No answer. Tom surveyed his last touch with the eye of an artist, then he gave his brush another gentle sweep. Ben called him again.
“Why, it’s you, Ben! I wasn’t noticing.” Tom turned suddenly and said.
“I’m going to swim,” said Ben. “Do you want to come? Oh, you have to work, don’t you? What a pity!”
“I’m not working.” Tom answered carelessly. “Well, maybe it is working, but I like it.”
“What?” shouted Ben. “You like it?”
“Well, I don’t see why I shouldn’t,” Tom kept painting, and said. “Boys don’t get to paint a fence every day.”
That put the thing in a new light. Ben stopped eating his apple and watched Tom for a while. Tom swept his brush gently back and forth. The fence looked clean and white. Before long. Ben really wanted to paint, too! “Let me try a little,” he begged (乞求) Tom.
Tom considered, “No, Ben, I can’t. Aunt Polly warned me to do it well. Only one boy in a thousand has the talent to paint.”
“Oh, please, Tom,” said Ben. “I can do it. I’ll be very careful. I’ll give you half my apple. Wait, I’ll give you all of it.”
Tom gave Ben his brush with worry on his face but joy in his heart. Tom rested under the tree. He ate the apple and smiled.

Up till now the King had been talking in a tiresome way, which made it quite clear that he wasn’t really interested in what they were saying, but he suddenly gave Caspian a sharp(锐利的) look.

In a quiet village near Guilin, an old man named Huang, now 76, spends his days practicing bamboo weaving. He learned this traditional skill from his grandfather when he was a boy and has been doing it for more than sixty years.
Making one piece takes a long time and needs a lot of skill. “Every piece of bamboo has its own life,” Huang says, his hands moving quickly and carefully. However, Huang sometimes feels worried. He is afraid that this skill may disappear. Most young people have left the village to work in cities. They are not interested in spending years learning this work. “They say it doesn’t earn much money," ”Huang says sadly. He has taught a few students, but none of them stayed long enough to master everything.

We didn’t always live on Mango Street. My family moved often. The move started even before I could clearly remember, on Paulina Street. Then we lived on Keeler Street, and later, we stayed on the third floor of a building on Loomis Street.
Once, an old lady asked where I lived. I pointed to our apartment. Her surprised “You live there?” left me completely embarrassed. Right then, I understood why my parents dreamed of a real house.
Life on Loomis Street was tough. The water pipes broke, and our landlord (房东) refused to fix them. We had to use our neighbor’s bathroom and carry water in milk gallons (牛奶桶). That’s why we left in a hurry. Mama and Papa looked for a house, and we moved into the house on Mango Street, far away, on the other side of town.
At present, we live on Mango Street. The house is ours—we don’t have to pay rent to anybody, or share the yard with the people down stairs, or be careful not to make too much noise, and there isn’t a landlord troubling. But even so, it’s not the one we have dreamed of because it’s a small red house with broken bricks and a small backyard. Mommy sighs (叹气) at the small kitchen sink because it drips (滴水) all the time, though she admits at least we don’t need to line up at the public faucet (水龙头) like before.
Mama and Papa always tell us that one day we will move into a real house which will be ours forever, with running water, a basement, at least three bathrooms, and a big yard. It was what Papa talked about with a lottery ticket (彩票), Mama dreamed up in our bedtime stories and what I hoped to point to with pride one day.
Mama and Papa say this red house is temporary. “Just for now,” they say. But I have a feeling that we might be here for a long long time.

Miss Martha had a little bakery (面包店) on the street corner and two thousand dollars in the bank. This bakery attracted many customers daily. Among them, one interested Martha a lot. He was a quiet, middle-aged man wearing glasses. ① His clothes were always patched (缝补的). But he looked tidy and had very good manners. He came in two or three times a week. He always bought two loaves of stale (不新鲜的) bread. Fresh bread was five cents a loaf, while stale loaves were two for five. ②
Once, while serving him, she saw a red and brown mark on his fingers. ③ She was sure he was an artist and very poor. No doubt he lived in an attic (阁楼), where he painted pictures, ate stale bread and thought of the good things to eat. To check if she was right, she took out a painting and put it behind the counter. “You have a fine picture here, madam.”

Yes, he must be an artist. How gently his eyes shone behind his glasses! To be able to judge perspective at a quick look-and to live on stale bread! But talented people often have to go through difficulties before they succeed.
How great it would be for art if a genius (天才) were supported by two thousand dollars in the bank, a bakery and a sympathetic heart-But these were daydreams.

Bamboo has been used in China for over 7,000 years. Today, it has become a “star” in the world’s fight against plastic pollution. In late May 2025, the “Bamboo for Plastic” Study Club of Beijing No.101 Middle School held a three-day science and technology exhibition (展览). More than 2,000 visitors came, including students, teachers and environmental experts from local universities.
The exhibition had three parts. In the Traditional Bamboo Crafts area, visitors watched live bamboo paper-making. This ancient skill was recorded in Qimin Yaoshu, a 6th-century agricultural book and the process produces almost no pollution. The High-Tech area showed great inventions: bamboo-wound pipes (竹缠绕管道) (lasting 50 years longer than plastic pipes) and bamboo bicycles that only weigh 3.5 kilograms. Club students worked with engineers for six months to make the bicycles strong enough.
To prepare the exhibition they also traveled to Lin’an, a major bamboo-growing area in Zhejiang. There they talked with farmers and knew about how to plant bamboo without harming local ecosystems (生态系统). During the exhibition, they explained their findings in both Chinese and English, winning praise (赞扬) from experts. Dr. Zhang Wei from Peking University said bamboo regrows in 3-5 years and can break down naturally (自然降解). Maybe in the future it can take the place of plastic. The students used traditional resources to solve a global problem.
Wang Tao, a Grade 9 student, said, “We used to think environmental protection was just picking up litter. Now we know that with creativity, common plants like bamboo can help protect the earth.”

That day he got three miles closer to the ship. The next day he traveled only two miles. At the end of the fifth day, the ship was still seven miles away. He was unable to travel as much as a mile a day. However, the summer weather continued, and he continued to move toward the ship. And always the sick wolf coughed behind him.
His knees hurt badly like his feet. Once, looking back secretly, he saw the weak and hungry wolf following and waiting. He saw clearly what his own end might be—unless he could kill the wolf. Two sick creatures were hunting each other’s lives with their dying bodies across a wasteland.
The ship was no more than four miles away. He could see it quite well when he tried to open his eyes. But he could never move. He knew that, and was very clear about the fact. He knew that he could not travel another half a mile. And yet he wanted to live. Life asked too much of him. And, dying, he could not accept death.
He closed his eyes and tried to keep himself cool. He fought against the terrible feeling for sleep. It was much like a sea, this deadly sleepiness. It rose and rose, bit by bit.
The wolf was growing closer. Without movement he lay on his back. He could hear the exciting sound of the sick wolf and even see its crazy eyes. It came closer, always closer, and he did not move. It was beside his ear.
The wolf waited quietly, and so did the man for hours. He fought off sleep, waiting for the moment to act. Finally, the wolf put its teeth on him. The man caught the wolf’s mouth while the other hand moved across its body. After five minutes, he lay on top of the wolf…
Three weeks later the man lay in a bed on the fishing boat. With tears falling down his face, he told who he was and what he had experienced.

I hoped to be set free one day, so I was nice to the Lilliputians. Gradually (渐渐地), ________. Sometimes the children even played hide-and-seek (躲猫猫) in my hair.
One day, the king said to me, “Gulliver, I invite you to watch an important performance. It is a competition called Rope Dancing.” In the contest, a thin rope was tied very high above the ground. People had to dance on this rope. Each dancer tried to jump higher than the others. I had never seen such a dangerous sport.
“Many dancers must fall and get hurt or killed,” I said.
“Yes,” he replied. “But I will give the best jobs in my kingdom to the men who are not afraid and jump the highest.”
“What a strange way to choose who will work for the country!” I thought.
Then, as the king watched, I tied each corner of my handkerchief (手绢) to a strong stick and pushed the four sticks into the ground. My handkerchief was now under the rope but above the ground. We have heard about people who have special memories. Recently there has been a report about a woman from Australia who can remember almost every detail (细节) of all the events in her daily life.
Rebecca Sharrock, 25, is one of just 80 people worldwide who have been identified (确定) as having Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM,超级自传体记忆症). It means she can remember every small event, which most people would forget within days—as if it had happened just minutes ago.

I can’t tell all the dates exactly because I was too young to understand calendars, but I remember what I did that very day, what the weather was like and so on.”
Rebecca can also re-experience taste. If she’s eating something that she doesn’t like, she thinks about Black Forest cake, her favorite food, and the memory will be so strong that she can nearly “taste” it.
However, ▲. Because they’re not just events that she remembers. “When I relive (再体验) memories, the feelings return, too,” Rebecca said. “For example, I remember falling over when I was three at my grandparents’ house and hurting my left knee. Talking about it now, I feel painful in my left knee.”

①Do you know that one-third of the food we eat every day gets thrown away, while one in nine people around the world goes hungry? Do you know it takes about 3,072 hours to produce a single grain of rice, yet it only takes a second to waste it? Students from Beijing No.8 Middle School know that and they learn to make kitchen waste into something useful.
②In October, students from Beijing No.8 Middle School visited an exhibition (展览) center that showed how to recycle kitchen waste.
③They saw how kitchen waste, such as fruit peels and leftovers (剩菜), could be turned into something useful. “First, people collect the kitchen waste and then crush (压碎) it. After that, they take out the solid (固体的) part and break it down before turning it into a soil conditioner (土壤调理剂),” 13-year-old Lu Zichen said. He added that this conditioner can help improve the quality of the soil.
④The students also learned how to make liquid fertilizer (液体肥料) from kitchen waste. This fertilizer helps plants grow. Qi Yiming, 13, even tried making it himself.
⑤“It’s quite simple. First, you place the kitchen waste into a container (容器). Then you add microbial agents (微生物菌剂), and let it sit for a few days to get the fertilizer,” Qi explained. “I am so glad to use the knowledge I learned to make liquid fertilizer myself. It is helpful in our daily life and it is a wonderful experience.”
⑥Yu Qian, a teacher from the school and the organizer of the activity, talked about the importance of hands-on learning. “I hope students not only pay attention to the textbook but also go outside to put their knowledge into practice. It makes learning more interesting and useful,” she said.

When Sara entered the schoolroom the next morning, everybody looked at her with wide, interested eyes.
“She has silk stockings on!” said Jessie. “And what little feet! I never saw such little feet.” “Oh”, Lavinia, unkindly, “That is the way her slippers (拖鞋) are made. I don’t think she is pretty at all. Her eyes are such a strange color.” “She isn’t pretty as other pretty people are,” said Jessie, looking at the other girls in the room. “But she makes you want to look at her again. She has greatly long eyelashes (睫毛), but her eyes are almost green.”
“Young ladies,” Miss Minchin said, “I shall expect you all to be very agreeable to Miss Crewe; she has just come to us from a great distance—in fact, from India. As soon as lessons are over, you can know each other.”
“Sara”, said Miss Minchin, “Come here to me. My impression is that your father wished you to learn French.” “I, I have never really learned French, but, but”, she began trying shyly to make herself clear. “That is enough,” Miss Minchin said. “If you have not learned, you must begin at once. The French master, Monsieur Dufarge, will be here in a few minutes.”
Monsieur Dufarge arrived. His eyes fell upon Sara. “Is this a new student for me, Madame?” he said to Miss Minchin.
“Her father really wants her to begin the language. But I am afraid she isn’t ready for it. She does not seem to wish to learn,” said Miss Minchin.
Little Sara rose in her seat. She began to explain quite simply in pretty and smooth French. She had not learned French exactly—not out of books—but her father and other people had always spoken it to her, and she had read it and written it as she had read and written English.
When she began to speak, Miss Minchin started quite surprisingly and sat looking at her over her eyeglasses, almost angrily, until she had finished.
“Ah, Madame,” Monsieur Dufarge said, “There is not much I can teach her. She has not learned French; she is French. Her pronunciation is pure.”
“You should have told me,” exclaimed Miss Minchin, turning to Sara.
“I, I tried,” said Sara. “I, I suppose I did not begin right.”
Miss Minchin knew she had tried, and that it had been her mistake that she was not allowed to explain. When she saw that Lavinia and Jessie were laughing at their French grammars, she felt very angry. “Silence, young ladies!” she said seriously, knocking upon the desk. “Silence at once!”
— Adapted from A Little Princess

【中考真题】
(Matilda borrows her friend’s parrot (鹦鹉) and…)
1.What did Matilda put inside Mr. Wormwood’s hat?
A.Some hair. B.Some superglue.
C.A book. D.A stick.
2.According to Scene Two, which word best describes Matilda?
A.Creative. B.Friendly. C.Shy. D.Calm.
3.What can we infer from the text?
A.The couple loved each other very much.
B.Mrs. Wormwood really enjoyed cutting hair.
C.Matilda would continue to punish the cheater.
D.Mr. Wormwood wouldn’t cheat others any more.
4.
Each picture above matches one scene. Which scene is missing?
A.Scene One. B.Scene Two.
C.Scene Three. D.Scene Four.
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.C 4.C
【导语】本文讲述了Matilda通过巧妙设计用胶水将父亲的帽子粘在头上,以此惩罚他的不诚实行为,并展现了她的创造力和机智。
1.细节理解题。根据Scene One中“Holding the hat in one hand and a bottle of superglue in the other, Matilda put some glue very carefully all round the inside rim (边) of the hat.” 可知,Matilda在Mr. Wormwood的帽子内侧涂上了超强胶水。故选B。
2.推理判断题。根据“One morning, just when Mr. Then she carefully put the hat back.”和“Matilda was standing at the door with a book in her hand. Mr. Wormwood looked at her doubtfully, but said nothing.… Mr. Wormwood shouted. He turned and looked again at Matilda, who looked back at him with large innocent (无辜的) brown eyes.”
根据文章最后一段“All in all, it is a most satisfying exercise. But don’t get your hopes up that it has taught the cheater a good lesson.”
1.Which is the first beach the writer visits?
A.Maceio. B.Praia do Leao. C.Prainha. D.Copacabana.
2.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Prainha is a popular beach for fishermen.
B.Bahia is a place with a wonderful cultural mix.
C.The islands of Fernando are very rich in honey.
D.Maceio’s beauty is like something in a postcard.
3.Which sentence can be put in the ▲ ?
A.The beach I’m searching for needs to be a little wilder.
B.The beach I’m looking for is a place for fishermen to fish.
C.The beach I’m searching for needs to be famous to tourists.
D.The beach I’m looking for is popular with parents and children.
4.What is the best title for this passage?
A.An Unknown Beach B.Memories of Vacation
C.The Perfect Beach D.A Tour of Education
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.C

2.细节理解题。根据“I head to Bahia, a place with Brazil’s best coastline. Over the centuries, people of many races have arrived here, creating a wonderful cultural mix.”可知巴伊亚州巴西最美的海岸线。几个世纪以来,许多种族的人来到这里,创造了一个美妙的文化融合。故选B。
3.推理判断题。根据“As I enter the water, I have the feeling of swimming through moonlight. Prainha’s beauty is like something you might see in a postcard. But for me, it’s a little too perfect.”可知作者想要下水游泳时,发现海滩太美了,有点完美,不忍破坏,A选项“我想要的海滩要有点狂野”符合。故选A。
4.最佳标题。根据“I’m happy to take people’s advice, but my final goal is to find my own dream beach.”可知作者在寻找一个自己梦想的海滩,C选项“完美的海滩”符合。故选C。
Other boys came, too. By early that afternoon, Tom had got many new toys, ________ Aunt Polly was so pleased that she gave Tom a shiny red apple.
1.What did Aunt Polly make Tom do as a punishment?
A.She made him paint their fence. B.She made him plant the trees.
C.She made him carry some apples. D.She made him work with Ben.

C.Because he wanted to be an artist when he grew up.
D.Because he wanted to make Ben interested in his work.
3.Which sentence can be put in the ________?
A.and he had returned the apple to Ben. B.and the fence had got three coats of paint.
C.but other boys had made fun of him. D.but he had finished the work by himself.
4.Which of the following best shows the changes in Tom’s feelings in the story above?
A. B.
C. D.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B 4.C

1.细节理解题。根据“Aunt Polly made him paint their fence (栅栏) as a punishment.”可知,波莉姨妈惩罚他,让他在篱笆上刷漆。故选A。
2.推理判断题。根据“No answer. Tom surveyed his last touch with the eye of an artist, then he gave his brush another gentle sweep. Ben called him again.”和“Boys don’t get to paint a fence every day.”可知,汤姆故意不理本,并且用艺术家的眼光审视他的最后一笔是为了让本对他的工作感兴趣。故选D。
3.推理判断题。根据“Other boys came, too. By early that afternoon, Tom had got many new toys, ... Aunt Polly was so pleased that she gave Tom a shiny red apple.”可知,汤姆让小伙伴们替他干了活儿,选项B“篱笆刷了三层漆”符合语境,故选B。
4.细节理解题。根据“he sighed”可知,一开始汤姆是不高兴的,排除BD;再根据“By early that afternoon, Tom had got many new toys, ... Aunt Polly was so pleased that she gave Tom a shiny red apple.”可知,汤姆的小伙伴们替他干了活,他也收到了小伙伴和波莉姨妈给的玩具和苹果,所以最后是开心的。故选C。
Prince Caspian’s parents died. He lived with his uncle, Miraz, the King of Narnia and his aunt. Though he had wonderful toys, he liked best the last hour of the day when the toys had all been put away and Nurse would tell him stories.
He didn’t care much for his uncle and aunt, but about twice a week his uncle would ask him to come and have a walk together.
One day, while they were doing this, the King said, “Well, boy, we must soon teach you to ride and use a sword. You know we have no children, so it looks as if you might have to be King when I’m gone. How shall you like that, eh?”
“I don’t know, Uncle,” said Caspian. “What do you wish?” asked the King. “I wish-I wish—I wish I could have lived in the Old Days,” said Caspian.
Up till now the King had been talking in a tiresome way, which made it quite clear that he wasn’t really interested in what they were saying, but he suddenly gave Caspian a sharp(锐利的) look.
“Eh? What’s that?” he said. “What old days?”
“Oh, don’t you know, Uncle?” said Caspian. “Once there was a White Witch(女巫) and she made herself Queen of the whole country. And she made it so that it was always winter. And then two boys and two girls came from somewhere and killed the Witch and they were made Kings and Queens of Narnia. And so they ruled for a long time and everyone had a lovely time, and it was all because of Aslan.”
“Who’s she?” said the King. If Caspian had been a little older, the tone(语气) of his uncle’s voice would have warned him it would be wiser to shut up. But he talked on...
1.What was Caspian’s favourite hour during a day?
A.When he played with wonderful toys.
B.When his uncle had a walk with him.

C.Caspian thought this uncle was a great king.
D.Caspian had an enjoyable walk with his uncle.
4.How did the King feel at the end of the story?
A.Proud. B.Worried. C.Angry. D.Calm.
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.B 4.C

In a quiet village near Guilin, an old man named Huang, now 76, spends his days practicing bamboo weaving. He learned this traditional skill from his grandfather when he was a boy and has been doing it for more than sixty years.
Making one piece takes a long time and needs a lot of skill. “Every piece of bamboo has its own life,” Huang says, his hands moving quickly and carefully. First, he chooses the best bamboo and cuts it into thin, even pieces. Then he boils the pieces to make them soft and strong. After that, he weaves them into baskets, hats, or small furniture (家具). When he was young, Huang worked very fast and could finish a big basket in just one day. Now he works more slowly, but his love for the work is still strong.

Zheng Xiaohui is a Chinese student in Milan, Italy. To spread traditional Chinese culture to the world, she has given lots of erhu shows on the street. Zheng has been playing the erhu since she was 9, and she has won prizes in many music competitions. Her fingers move nimbly (灵敏地) on the strings, making the erhu sing like a bird. Zheng arrived in Italy in 2021. Since April 2023, she has been performing on the street during her free time. And now she does three or four street shows a month, usually in busy squares where many people pass by.
At first, Zheng did not plan to perform on the street. But after watching a video of a violinist’s street performance, she changed her mind. She thought, “Why can’t erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument (乐器), bring happiness to people here?” Thinking back to her first street performance, she said she was worried at that time.

“I remember my mom putting me in the driver’s seat of a car and taking a picture of me when I was 12 days old,” she said. “That’s my earliest memory. I remember every day since then.
