Two weeks before the Christmas holiday, I hadn’t sent out our holiday cards yet. Each year, we get lots of cards from friends-some with family photos, some with bright holiday wishes. This year, I wanted to send out cards with nice family pictures.
After taking my two sons to school, I called a local photographer. He said he could come on Sunday morning. He told us all to wear white shirts. I thought it would be perfect.
But I had so much to do-shopping, cooking, and taking care of everyone. On top of that, I had to find white shirts for the whole family. I finally bought white polo shirts for all of us. I felt proud and excited. Everything was ready!
But on Saturday night, when I said good night to my younger son Jim, I noticed his hair. It was a complete mess! He really needed a haircut, and it was too late to go to a salon (美发厅). Then I had an idea. I got my scissors and made our bathroom into a little “salon”.
My son sat still while I tried to cut his hair. When I finished, we looked at each other... It was terrible! I had never cut hair before. What was I thinking?
I told my husband what happened. He gave Jim a funny look and said “This is the worst haircut ever!” I felt awful. But then he smiled and said, “Don’t be so sad. Let me fix it.”
Soon, both of our boys came to me—with matching buzz cuts (寸头)! A minute later, my husband showed up... with a buzz cut too!
Our holiday cards turned out great—with a little less hair, and a lot more love.

No one wants to go on a fun trip but end up spending the whole time running to the bathroom! While bad seafood might cause a stomachache, the trip itself can also upset your stomach.
Your stomach is full of tiny helpers that work to digest (消化) your food. But when you travel, things change. Sitting for too long, changing time zones (时区), and not sleeping on time can all make your stomach feel uncomfortable.
For one thing, sitting on a plane or in a car for hours can squeeze your stomach. This slows down how food moves, and your stomach may feel uncomfortable. Also, your body has a “daily clock” that helps it know when to eat, sleep, and even poop (排便)! But when you travel far, this clock gets mixed up. You might not go to the bathroom like you normally do. Sleep matters, too. If you don’t get enough sleep, your stomach can become upset. You may even feel like eating a lot of sweet snacks, which can make things worse.
The good news? You can stop stomach troubles before they start! Try standing up and stretching (伸展) every hour on the plane or during long car rides. If you’re flying across time zones, begin changing your bedtime a few days early to help your body get used to the new time. And before your trip, be sure to sleep well every night. A rested body is a happy body, and that means a happy stomach, too.
So remember: move, sleep, and plan early. That way, your trip can be full of fun, not bathroom runs!
11. According to Paragraph 2, what can upset your stomach when you travel?
①Changing time zones. ②Sitting for a long time. ③Drinking too little water.
④Sleeping at different times than usual.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①③④
12. What does the underlined word “squeeze” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?
A. 放松 B. 保护 C. 清洗 D. 挤压
13. If someone sleeps poorly before a trip, what might happen?
A. They may want to eat sweet snacks.
B. Their ability to digest food may improve.
C. Their body temperature might rise a little.
D. They might not notice time zone changes.
14. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The best foods to eat while traveling.
B. Different kinds of stomach problems.
C. The causes of an upset stomach during travel.
D. Ways to help your stomach feel better when traveling.
15. What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To show how digestion works.
B. To warn people not to travel too often.
C. To describe how food can make the stomach feel bad.
D. To explain stomach problems during trips and give advice.
D
“Run, run, run!” Your coach (教练) shouts. You race on the grass as the wind lifts your paragliding wing. Then you jump off the ground and take off! This is your first paragliding trip!
Paragliding lets people fly high like birds, starting only with their feet. Long ago, Leonardo da Vinci dreamed of human flight, but modern paragliding started with NASA.
In the 1950s NASA needed something to help space capsules (太空舱) land on the earth safely. A pilot named David Barish made a special light parachute (降落伞). Though NASA didn’t use it, Barish’s idea started the sport we know today.
Now, paragliding wings are stronger, safer and easier to use. People who love paragliding keep setting records. The world record for the farthest flight now is over 600 km!
Birds fly high with the help of certain natural forces, which paragliders also use! There are two important kinds of “lift”: thermal lift and dynamic lift (热升力和动态升力).
Thermal lift happens when warm air moves up. If a paraglider finds warm air rising, it’s a reason to celebrate. This warm air pushes the paraglider up faster than gravity (重力) draws him down. This helps him fly longer. But wind doesn’t always move in a straight line. When wind hits obstacles such as hills or mountains, the air has to go up over them. So, it creates dynamic lift, which can push the paraglider higher, helping him fly farther away.
Paragliders can put everything they need into one bag that usually weighs between 10 and 25 kilograms. But for a first-time paraglider, it’s best to fly with a professional. The coach does all the hard work while the passenger is free to enjoy the ride without worrying about safety.
Does it sound fun? Don’t just sit there and dream of being free as a bird. Get ready, run hard, jump, and feel the fun of flying!
16. How is Paragraph I mainly developed?
A. By telling a true story. B. By following the spacial order.
C. By comparing different sports. D. By describing the steps of paragliding.
17. What helped start modern paragliding?
A. A pilot’s invention for NASA. B. Leonardo da Vinci’s dreams.
C. A special space capsule. D. An early flying match.
18. What does thermal lift help the paraglider do?
A. Land more safely. B. Stay in the air longer.
C. Avoid being controlled by gravity. D. Change the flying direction easily.
19. What does the underlined word “obstacles” in Paragraph 6 mean in Chinese?
A. 边界线 B. 保护罩 C. 障碍物 D. 隔离网
20. What does the writer suggest a first-time paraglider do?
A. Start by practicing running. B. Put more things into his bag.
C. Fly alone to get more experience. D. Fly with an experienced coach for safety.

People use a computer to search for information, send e-mails, do shopping or play games. All these activities would not go well without a small mouse.
The world’s first computer mouse appeared in 1964. It was invented by Douglas Engelbart who worked in a research organization at that time. The mouse was mainly made up of a wooden “house”, a circuit (电路), board and two metal wheels. Engelbart called his invention the “Bug”. Because the long “tail” on the back made it look more like a mouse, the name “mouse” became well-known soon.
8 years later, Bill English, an American computer engineer, improved the mouse further. He changed the wheels into a rolling (滚转的) ball at the bottom of the mouse. The “Ball Mouse” was easier to use, and this had a strong connection with its success in many offices. It had its problems, though. For example, the ball became dirty easily from rolling around the desktop. The dirt had to be often cleaned out to keep the ball running well.
The disadvantages led to a new version (版本) being created around 1980. It was then that the optical (光学的) mouse was invented. However, the mouse wasn’t widely used because it was too expensive.
The computer mouse has come a long way since its invention in the 1960s. It has been improved many times to meet the changing needs of users. With the rise of touch screens, will the computer move into the future without its best friend—the mouse?
Some experts believe that in the future, people will no longer use the computer mouse, because they believe touch screens change the way people control computers. In the future people may no longer use the computer mouse. Moreover, computers that can read our brains and facial expressions are being created. But some people think the mouse will still have a market—even with the progress of new technology. What’s your opinion on it?

In the 1950s, NASA needed something to help space capsules (太空舱) land on the earth safely.
C By comparing different sports.

第三节(共5小题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成图表中所缺信息。
