Passage 3
(24-25七年级上·江苏苏州市四区·期末)
Shelley grew up in the city, where her dad always drove on smooth roads and her mom only stayed in expensive hotels. When her teacher, Ms. McKay, told the class about a four-day camping (野营) trip, she just wanted to find a way to get out of it.
But there was no way out, so she ended up on the trip. Shelley tried to carry her heavy bag. It felt like a mountain she didn’t want but had to take. When they finally got to the campsite, she was happy to put it down.
Ms. McKay said to the group, “Set up your tents (帐篷) and then walk around nearby, but don’t go too far.” Shelley thought, “That’s easy!” Ms. McKay said, “For the first ten minutes, let’s walk without speaking and look at everything around us.” Shelley couldn’t believe it—could she stay quiet for ten whole minutes?
As she walked, she looked at the trees. She noticed the leaves (树叶) were not all the same green—some were dark green and some yellow-green. The trees were grey, brown or green. For the first time, Shelley felt amazed by nature and wanted to stay a bit longer.
After dinner, everyone sat around the campfire. Ms. McKay asked them to close their eyes and listen. Shelley heard leaves falling and birds singing. The sounds felt so nice and calming.
Over the next few days, Shelley enjoyed herself a lot among the trees. Ms. McKay talked about what was safe to eat in nature but asked them not to eat anything red. On the last night, they touched (触摸) nature—feeling the ground, the hard trees, and soft leaves.
When Shelley got back home, she felt different. She wanted to walk around outside. She noticed the flowers in gardens and the beauty of the park nearby. For the first time, Shelley truly saw the colors, heard the sounds, and noticed the different smells of her city. She felt happy for the world around her.
1.How did Shelley feel when she heard about the trip at first?
A.Happy. B.Amazed. C.Afraid. D.Tired.
