What were you doing at noon? Where was he working last year? 3. 含有when和while引导的时间状语从句的过去进行时的区别: (1) when所引导的时间状语既可以指时间点,也可以指时间段;while所引导的时间状语只指时间段。因此,在when引导的时间状语从句中,动词可以是终止性动词,也可以是延续性动词;而在while引导的时间状语从句中,动词必须是延续性动词。例如: They arrived while we were having dinner. 我们吃饭的时候他们到了。 这句话还可以写成:They arrived when we were having dinner.
