As the global population is projected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, the challenge rests in producing enough food while minimizing environmental harm. Here are some creative approaches to sustainable agriculture.
PRECISION AGRICULTURE
Precision agriculture uses technology such as GPS, drones (无人机), and sensors to monitor and manage crops with high accuracy. By applying water, fertilizers, and pest (害虫)control products only where and when needed, farmers can lower costs, improve output and minimize the environmental impact of farming practices.
VERTICAL (垂直的) FARMING
Vertical farming involves growing crops in multiple layers, often in controlled indoor environments. This method uses less land and water than traditional farming and can be used in urban areas, reducing the need for transportation. Although energy use remains a concern, renewable energy sources can make vertical farming more sustainable.
REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE
Regenerative agriculture focuses on restoring soil health and improving ecosystems. Practices such as planting cover crops, less digging, and planting trees with crops help absorb carbon, hold water, and support biodiversity. These methods not only benefit the environment but also enhance long-term farm productivity.
CROP DIVERSIFICATION
Relying on a limited number of crops can lead to soil damage and weakness to pests and diseases. Crop diversification, which involves planting a variety of crops, improves soil health, reduces risks, and enhances biodiversity. This approach is particularly important for adapting to climate change.
As the world faces the challenges of feeding a growing population as well as protecting the planet, sustainable agriculture offers a path forward. By adopting creative methods and rethinking traditional practices, humanity can ensure food security while safeguarding the environment for future generations.
21. Which of the following is suitable for urban environments?
A. Precision agriculture. B. Vertical farming.
C. Regenerative agriculture. D. Crop diversification.
22. What is one of the benefits of crop diversification?
A. Reducing waste. B. Using less land.
C. Controlling pests. D. Protecting soil health.
23. Why does the author introduce sustainable farming methods?
A. To advocate environmental protection.
B. To promote the use of renewable energy.
C. To support people with less environmental harm.
D. To illustrate the concept of food and land security.

An 82-year-old Chinese female pilot has set a record in the country’s airline industry after flying a small plane for 40 minutes in Beijing. Miao Xiaohong, one of China’s second batch of female pilots, controlled the Tecnam P2010 plane to take off, turn, climb, dive and land safely at the Shifosi Airport in Pinggu District of Beijing.
In 1956, Miao Xiaohong, who graduated from a high school in Jinan, won a position in the second batch. She graduated from the flight school in 1958. In the following years, she flew many important missions. In 1963, she undertook a mission to airdrop materials for the flood-stricken areas in Hebei Province. Poor visibility prevented her from locating the target areas as the clouds were about 100 meters above the ground, but she managed to finish the task.
In 1989, she retired and started her writing career. When she collected materials for her books, she found that many aged pilots in other countries still flew, so she had the idea to return to the sky. To prepare for the flight, she walked 3,000 steps every day and moved her arms to meet the requirements for high-altitude flight during the past two months. Different from past flights for missions, this time her goal was to enjoy the flight. She said that it was exciting and fresh. “Seeing the boundless blue sky unfold in front of me, I feel it is very open,” she said.
The trainer said that Miao Xiaohong could finish 30 hours of flight to get a license for commercial flight. She said, “My physical condition is good enough to finish the 30-hour flight, but it is not so important for me to get such a license. After achieving my dream of returning to the sky, I hope to encourage young women to join the airline industry. I’m 82 years old and I can fly again. You, the young people, can fly and will fly better than me.”
24. What challenge did Miao Xiaohong face during the airdrop mission?
A. Lack of enough materials. B. No access to the struck areas.
C. Poor visibility caused by thick clouds. D. Shortage of good eyesight to spot the targets.
25. What made Miao Xiaohong have the idea of flying a plane at the age of 82?
A. Her deep love for flight. B. The influence of other aged pilots.
C. The requirements of her books. D. Her wish to break a flying record.
26. Which words can best describe Miao Xiaohong?
A. Devoted and humble. B. Courageous and honest.
C. Determined and inspiring. D. Optimistic and outgoing.
27. What might be the best title for the passage?
A. Returning to the Blue Sky. B. Coming to Join in the Flight.
C. Managing to Finish Difficult Tasks. D. Improving Yourself to Set a Record.

As humans, we can find out what other people are thinking about and understand that their ideas might be different from ours. Scientists call this “theory of mind”, which is an important part of human success. An important question is whether animals can do the same. A recent experiment suggests that bonobo apes (倭黑猩猩) may share this ability.
Bonobos are very intelligent apes known for being friendly and often solving problems by working together. To study how bonobos think, researchers at Johns Hopkins University came up with a clever experiment with three male bonobos at a research center called the Ape Initiative. The goal was to see whether the apes could understand when a human didn’t know some things.
In the experiment, scientist Luke Townrow sat across a table from a bonobo. Another scientist hid a small snack under one of three cups. The bonobo was always able to watch the snack being hidden and see Townrow. But half of the time, Townrow wasn’t able to see which cup the snack was hidden under. The researchers wanted to see if the bonobos acted differently when they knew that Townrow didn’t know which cup the snack was hidden under.
The results showed that when Townrow didn’t see where the snack was hidden, the bonobos pointed to the cup with the hidden treat more quickly. The experiment suggests that the bonobos seemed to understand that Townrow didn’t know something that they did.
However, there were only three bonobos in the study. Also, these bonobos grew up around humans and might not represent wild ones. Scientists should provide more evidence. Still, the results indicate that the bonobos have a “theory of mind”. They have the ability to think about what others are thinking and can change their behavior to communicate when someone is missing important information.
28. What do the underlined words “this ability” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. To copy others’ behavior. B. To create a language system.
C. To understand others’ minds. D. To interact with other species.
29. Why are bonobos chosen for the research?
A. They are the most intelligent apes. B. They are friendly and cooperative.
C. They can communicate like humans. D. They can solve problems on their own.
30. Why did the bonobos point to the cup in the experiment?
A. To respond as required. B. To show their high intelligence.
C. To get the hidden treat. D. To help the participant find the snack.
31. What is a limitation of the experiment?
A. The design was too complex. B. The sample size was too small.
C. It involved three wild bonobos. D. It lasted for a very short time.
D
Following the crowd may not always be in a person’s best interest. But new research suggests that teens who go along with their friends may end up healthier as adults.
Scientists have known that close friendships are good for health. That’s true for both teens and adults. The finding inspired Joseph Allen, a psychologist at the University of Virginia, and his team to study whether experiences during teen years would influence adult health.
So they followed 171 teens starting when the kids were just 13. They interviewed each one every year for five years, and also spoke to these teens’ closest friends, who provided additional information about the quality of their friendships. The same 171 people were interviewed again at ages 25, 26 and 27. This time, the questions surveyed each person’s overall health. When the researchers analyzed the data, they found a strong connection between a teen’s behavior and adult health. Teens who had close friends grew up to be the healthier adults. Whether teens held back their feelings or expressed them to a close friend also influenced later health. Those who held back were more likely to be sick as adults. The connection held up even after the scientists accounted for other possible influences on health. Weight, family income and drug use were all examined. So were mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. And in these people, such other factors did not explain adult health as well as teen friendships did.
Going along with the crowd may have benefits, says Allen, but there are also drawbacks. Teens who are more independent tend to be better at school and work. And peer pressure may lead to some kids’ risky behavior, such as smoking, drinking or using drugs. Dealing with it is an ongoing challenge, Allen acknowledges. “Finding the right balance is the key. Teens shouldn’t lose heart for not finding this easy.” And, he adds, “Parents need to be understanding about the pressures teens face.”
32. What is the function of the paragraph one?
A. To introduce a topic. B. To make a definition.
C. To reach a conclusion. D. To attract readers’ interest.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the research?
A. Its theoretical basis. B. Its major difficulties.
C. Its process and results. D. Its scientific evidence.
34. What does the underlined word “drawbacks” mean in Paragraph4?
A. Challenges. B. Mistakes. C. Influences. D. Disadvantages.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Teens should follow the crowd strictly. B. Peer pressure mainly affects adult health.
C. Teen friendships may make healthier adults. D. Adults should pay attention to teen health.

On Mother’s Day, our teacher wrote that word “Mugs” (马克杯) on the blackboard when she arrived at our classroom. She told us we could make mugs for Mother’s Day to express our gratitude to our mother by painting whatever we wanted on it. Then a mug was given out to every student.
When the teacher tried to give me a mug, I told her I didn’t want one. Her eyes widened, “Why not, Milo?” she asked in confusion.
I said, “Because my mom doesn’t live with us anymore and she left two years ago. Dad said he doesn’t know where she is, so I won’t be able to give her a mug.”
Speaking this, I thought of a day, a long time ago, when I was four. Mom came home from work and gave Dad a chocolate bar and me a doll. And Dad was confused because he and Mom had been mad at each other the day before. But he wasn’t mad anymore because she gave him chocolate, I guess. He was happy and surprised and he picked Mom up and tried to spin (使旋转) her around. When seeing the happy scene, I was laughing so hard that I fell off the couch. What sweet memories! However, she left us. From then on, Dad and I lived with each other. He raised me alone and taught me how to read and write. He spared no efforts to care for me mentally and physically.
Suddenly, a gentle touch on my hair called my mind back. “You can give it to your father as a gift,” the teacher said, looking at me gently. I stood in silence. And next to me, Amelia, my friend, was already gluing pink flowers all over her mug, and I wanted to do that too.

【原文】M: Hello, Freya. Mountain biking is a popular sport among teenagers but there are fewer girls doing it. Am I right?
W: Yes, although we’re growing in numbers. When I was 13, my dad bought my brother a mountain bike but I was given an ordinary one. I really wanted to join my brother, so in the end my uncle got one for me.
M: And now you’re a winner?
W: Yes I just won the Regional Championship. It was a difficult course with lots of rocks. At one point I thought I wasn’t going to win. I was ahead and then I had to slow down because a photographer jumped out from behind a tree.
M: What do you think is the most important before a race?
W: Well there’s much to do. Take plenty of exercise to keep fit. Check the route in advance. And the most important I think is that you must make sure everything’s working on the bike. If there’s anything wrong with the bike, I’ll be in trouble. And the clothes shouldn’t slow you down so they need to be tight. They might feel a bit uncomfortable when you first put them on, but you will soon get used to it . I’m not bothered about not looking pretty — I just want to win.

【原文】 W: Hello, this is Greenhill Studies College. I’m leaving this message in answer to your questions about the Business Studies course. Firstly, you asked when the course starts. It begins on the 12th of June, and finishes on the 11th of July. At the beginning of the course, there are no lectures because we spend time watching business videos. So you won’t need to bring anything for the class, as everything is provided. Don’t forget, however, that although you can bring your own notebook computer if you wish, mobile phones are not allowed in the classroom. I’m afraid these can disturb the classes. You said you’ re coming by car. Well, as it’s only a short course, you can use the visitor’s car park which is just beside the main entrance. We’re only a short walk away. Just turn right after the Science Center, cross the staff car park, and you’ll see the door to the Business Studies Department in front of you. Finally, you also wanted to know if it’s possible to attend a language course while you are here. Well, the answer is yes, but we only have room on our Italian classes. Oh, no, actually... there’s one place on the Spanish course too. We usually offer French, Chinese, German and Japanese as well, but there aren’t enough students for those classes this summer. If you want to apply for the course, please sign up before the 5th of June. Thank you.

第一节(共15小题,每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
As the global population is projected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, the challenge rests in producing enough food while minimizing environmental harm.

As humans, we can find out what other people are thinking about and understand that their ideas might be different from ours. Scientists call this “theory of mind”, which is an important part of human success. An important question is whether animals can do the same. A recent experiment suggests that bonobo apes (倭黑猩猩) may share this ability.
Bonobos are very intelligent apes, known for being friendly and often solving problems by working together.
【答案】28. C 29. B 30. D 31. B

So they followed 171 teens, starting when the kids were just 13.
【答案】32. A 33. C 34. D 35. C

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

(1)续写短文的词数应为150左右;
(2)续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文
Para. 1:
I looked back at the teacher and took a mug out of her hand. I said, “OK, Thank you”. Back to my seat, I began to decorate it with concentration. On it I painted a picture of my father teaching me to read. Also, I decorated my mug with many pink flowers. Staring at my masterpiece, I wondered how happy my father would be when seeing the mug. However, it struck me how much he loved surprises. So I decided not to give him the gift immediately when I saw him. I would give him a big surprise.
Para. 2:
So when Dad picked me up after school, I hid the mug at the bottom of my backpack. Not until we returned home did I put it on the table in the kitchen. When he went to the kitchen to make a meal for us, he spotted the mug, his eyes wide open, “What’s the thing, Milo?” I stepped out and explained softly, “It’s a Mother’s Day mug. It’s for you.” I could clearly see the amazement on his face. Dad embraced me tightly, words failing him. Through the window, the setting sun cast a golden glow on us, warm and deep.
