B Up until recently, 16-year-old Esraa Elsharkawy had doubts about artificial intelligence (AI). “I just thought AI was just kind of off-putting,” she says. She worried the technology would take jobs away from humans, and she didn’t understand how it worked, but she wanted to learn more. The only problem: She couldn’t get that kind of education at her high school in Katy, Texas. For years, research has shown a digital divide in schools’ teaching about new technologies. For example, rich suburban schools are more likely to have computer science classes than poorer urban and rural districts. A free summer camp AI4All at Princeton University wanted to help close the gap: it invited about 30 high schoolers from low-income families to spend three weeks living on campus, learning about the math that powers generative AI and work together with Princeton teachers to build AI solutions for real-world issues: from drone (无人机)-based wildfire monitoring to medical problem-solving. At Princeton, campers worked on AI solutions to real-life challenges in medicine, robotics and environmental science. On a mid-July afternoon, AI4All campers sat in a group inside a lecture hall and listened closely to Princeton professor Jaime Fernández Fisac as he explained how AI could help drones fly better. The concepts were very difficult, but the high schoolers were following along. Elsharkawy attended the camp and said the experience changed her idea of AI. She said the AI4All program “definitely helps with the digital divide.” Ryan Chou, from California, called the camp a “small but impactful” step and wanted it expanded. Public K-12 teachers see both benefits and risks in AI, according to a survey. A majority of those surveyed believe AI will improve accessibility of learning materials for students with disabilities. Still, 40% of them say they don’t use AI at all. And more than half of the 40% believe weekly use of AI by students would decrease their ability to think independently and critically. 24.What does the underlined word“off-putting” mean in paragraph 1? A.Unsettling. B.Disappointing. C.Promising. D.Relaxing. 25.What’s the goal of the camp? A.To introduce AI to young learners. B.To popularize AI education. C.To apply AI in math learning. D.To address practical problems. 26.How did the campers react to the AI courses? A.They showed great enthusiasm. B.They showed respect for professors. C.They enjoyed the teaching methods. D.They had trouble following the lessons. 27.What is the attitude of most teachers surveyed towards AI? A.Critical. B.Appreciative. C.Objective. D.Unclear. C Ten years ago, Airbnb passed a milestone: the number of people who had used the service to book a night’s stay outnumbered 4 million. But it was still believed to be a small player. Over the past decade, staying in somebody else’s home, or second home, for a short-term break has become the first choice I (and my mates, and my mum, and her mates) made when planning to visit a city. We much prefer it. Away from the eyes of annoying tourists, our boys are free to treat the house as a genuine home-from-home: that is, using every surface, from bookshelf to boiler cupboard, as a huge wonderland. As there is always a separate living space (actually separate, unlike the open-plan “suites” offered by most hotels), we can chat and watch TV once they’ve gone to bed. We use the kitchen to make them dinner and breakfast, which saves us money; then we get a takeaway from Deliveroo (another technological marvel) once the kids are in bed. I’ll admit that this routine can still present challenges. Simply loading up the car with daily necessities, snacks and drinks, and appropriate “in-flight entertainment” is an activity that, itself, kills your desire for holiday. But it’s always worth it. How I look forward to the small success when I’ve located the parking space for our rented room, after ten minutes of aimlessly driving around a complex one-way system. How I love examining the owner’s art and books, piecing together my impression of their personality from the clues they’ve left behind in random handmade objects. “Look, he’s got a signed Bruce Springsteen poster and an entire library of Jeffrey Archer! Did he turn Shakespeare as he got older, or inherit (继承) the books from his dad?” Best of all, I enjoy waking up on Sunday morning and being somewhere new — yet not being constantly aware, as one is in a hotel, of the financial deal during the experience. Wandering around cities, I’ve often found myself idly imagining what it would be like to live there, and with Airbnb one gets quite a bit closer to actually knowing the answer. That is why, I suspect, it’s no “small player” anymore. 28.What does the author prefer to do when travelling? A.Use home-sharing platforms. B.Book a hotel in advance. C.Choose long-term stays. D.Stay together with family. 29.What does the author like about the home-from-home experience, according to paragraph 3? A.Loading up the car. B.Locating a parking space. C.Reading the owner’s books. D.Picturing the owner’s personality. 30.Why does the author write the text? A.To popularize a service. B.To share personal experiences. C.To explore a social issue. D.To provide useful information. What is love? What is TRUE love? D.Unclear. 【答案】24.A 25.B 26.A 27.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中“Up until recently, 16-year-old Esraa Elsharkawy had doubts about artificial intelligence (AI). (直到不久前,16岁的埃斯拉·埃尔沙卡维还对人工智能持怀疑态度。)”和“She worried the technology would take jobs away from humans, and she didn’t understand how it worked, but she wanted to learn more. (她担心这项技术会夺走人类的工作,而且她不明白它是如何工作的,但她想更多地了解。)”可知,人工智能让埃尔沙卡维感到担忧。由此推知,她的话“I just thought AI was just kind of off-putting”表达了同样的意思,划线词off-putting意为“令人不安的”。A.Unsettling. Disappointing. Promising. Relaxing. 故选A项。 25. 根据第三段中“A free summer camp AI4All at Princeton University wanted to help close the gap: it invited about 30 high schoolers from low-income families to spend three weeks living on campus, learning about the math that powers generative AI and work together with Princeton teachers to build AI solutions for real-world issues (普林斯顿大学的一个免费夏令营AI4All希望帮助缩小这一差距:它邀请了大约30名来自低收入家庭的高中生在校园里生活三周,学习驱动生成性人工智能的数学知识,并与普林斯顿大学的老师一起为现实世界的问题构建人工智能解决方案)”可知,这个夏令营帮助来自低收入家庭的学生学习人工智能知识,目标是普及人工智能教育。故选B项。 26. 根据第四段中“On a mid-July afternoon, AI4All campers sat in a group inside a lecture hall and listened closely to Princeton professor Jaime Fernández Fisac as he explained how AI could help drones fly better. The concepts were very difficult, but the high schoolers were following along. (七月中旬的一个午后,“AI普及计划”夏令营的学员们齐聚演讲厅,全神贯注地聆听普林斯顿大学教授海梅·费尔南德斯·菲萨克的讲座。教授正在阐释人工智能如何优化无人机飞行性能,尽管这些概念晦涩难懂,但在场的中学生们却始终紧跟讲解思路。)”可知,尽管人工智能的概念很难,但高中生们都在努力跟上,表现出对人工智能课程的极大热情。故选A项。 27. 根据最后一段中“Public K-12 teachers see both benefits and risks in AI, according to a survey. A majority of those surveyed believe AI will improve accessibility of learning materials for students with disabilities. Still, 40% of them say they don’t use AI at all. And more than half of the 40% believe weekly use of AI by students would decrease their ability to think independently and critically. (根据一项调查,公立K-12教师看到了人工智能的好处和风险。大多数受访者认为,人工智能将提高残疾学生学习材料的可获得性。尽管如此,他们中40%的人表示他们根本没有使用人工智能。在这40%的人中,超过一半的人认为,学生每周使用人工智能会降低他们独立思考和批判性思考的能力。)”可知,大多数受访教师既看到了人工智能的好处,也看到了其风险,对人工智能持客观态度。故选C项。 C Ten years ago, Airbnb passed a milestone: the number of people who had used the service to book a night’s stay outnumbered 4 million. 根据首段中的“Over the past decade, staying in somebody else’s home, or second home, for a short-term break has become the first choice I (and my mates, and my mum, and her mates) made when planning to visit a city.(在过去的十年里,短期住在别人家或第二家已经成为我(和我的朋友们、我妈妈和她的朋友们)计划游览一个城市时的首选)”可知,作者计划旅游时首选住在别人家或者第二个家中,结合“Ten years ago, Airbnb passed a milestone: the number of people who had used the service to book a night’s stay outnumbered 4 million.(十年前,Airbnb跨过了一个里程碑:使用该服务预订一晚住宿的人数超过了400万)”可知,Airbnb是一个预定住宿的网络平台。 故选A项。 29. 根据第二段中的“How I love examining the owner’s art and books, piecing together my impression of their personality from the clues they’ve left behind in random handmade objects.(我是多么喜欢研究主人的艺术品和书籍,从他们随意留下的手工物品中寻找线索,拼凑出我对他们个性的印象)”可知,作者喜欢研究主人的艺术品和书籍,从他们留下的物品中寻找线索,拼凑他们的性格特征。 根据首段中的“Ten years ago, Airbnb passed a milestone: the number of people who had used the service to book a night’s stay outnumbered 4 million.(十年前,Airbnb跨过了一个里程碑:使用该服务预订一晚住宿的人数超过了400万)”可知,在十年前使用Airbnb服务的人数超过了400万,结合尾段中的“That is why, I suspect, it’s no “small player” anymore.(这就是为什么,我怀疑,它不再是“小玩家”)”可知,作者不怀疑Airbnb服务平台是一个“小玩家”。 故选A项。 What is love?
