In the morning, we went on a trip to Green Natural Park. We were happy because it was a sunny day. On the way, we kept singing and talking happily.
However, when we finished our picnic at 1:00 p.m., it was dark and windy. Soon, the storm came when we were walking to the campsite (野营地). We ran but we could find no place to hide. Twenty minutes passed and it was still raining. There were hours to go before we reached the campsite. It was even worse that our small compass(指南针) showed that we went the wrong way. We lost our way!
We had to make a quick decision because it was raining heavily. Chris said we could put up a tent to hide in, so Mary and Tom helped to do it. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us warm. But we couldn’t light the fire, as everything was wet. We had to wait inside the tent. At about five, it stopped raining. We decided to give up the trip because all of us were very tired.
This trip might not be very successful but we got the most important thing—the importance of teamwork.

When Justin Tong was a child, other kids felt sorry for him because his parents always made him do lots of housework, such as carrying out the rubbish and sending newspapers. But when he grew up, he was better off than his childhood friends and lived a happier and healthier life.
This is one of the cases of a 40-year study that followed the lives of 456 children in London. The study, led by Daniel Brown, a psychologist (心理学家) in the UK, aimed to find out the connection between childhood labor work (劳动) and later life success.
The study followed these children’s lives closely from a very young age. The researchers interviewed them about their lives at the ages of 25, 31, and 47. And they compared two things: how much labor work the children did during their childhood and how successful their later lives were. The study showed that children who did more childhood labor work had a better future. They were more likely to get good pay, overcome difficulties bravely and have good relationships with different people. That’s because childhood labor work can not only help children develop abilities, independence, and a sense of responsibility but also help them understand that people must work together towards common goals.
It’s never too late to start doing labor work today. Get ready and take on every task, no matter how small it is. Always remember, your labor work will bring you closer to a better and happier future.
1.Why did other kids feel sorry for Justin Tong when he was a child?
2.How long did the study last?

Teamwork Makes a Difference
During the summer vacation, I took part in a summer camp in Chengdu.
There I made many friends and had some extraordinary (非凡的) experiences. I saw lovely pandas, visited some museums, and had hot pot. However, the most impressive part for me was the teamwork.
One day, after watching the pandas, making differently shaped food for them to eat, and cutting bamboo leaves, the teacher asked us to create a mind map of what we had learned and experienced over those days. I worked on it with my three new friends. We came up with a lot of different ideas and we decided to work together. I was in charge of the writing part. We finished it as quickly as possible. When the four of us shared it with others, I felt proud.
It can be hard to do a task alone. But in some ways, teamwork is even more challenging. It needs us to communicate well, set clear goals, play our own roles, and trust and respect each other. But the fruit of teamwork can be very sweet!
1.Did the author have hot pot?
2.When did the teacher ask the author to create a mind map?
3.How did the author feel when the author’s team shared the mind map?
4.According to the last paragraph, teamwork needs us to communicate well, set clear goals, play our own roles, and trust and respect each other. Well, which do you think is the most important? Why? Write 30 words or more.
【答案】1.Yes, the author had hot pot. 2.After watching the pandas, making food for them, and cutting bamboo leaves. 3.The author felt proud. 4.I think communication is the most important. Without clear communication, team members may misunderstand goals, roles, or ideas, leading to conflicts and inefficiency. Effective communication ensures everyone works cohesively toward shared objectives.

Answer the questions. (根据短文内容回答问题。)
In China, the Dragon Boat Festival is not just about eating zongzi ( rice dumplings) or remembering the poet Qu Yuan. It also teaches a deep lesson about team spirit through dragon boat racing, a tradition that has lasted for over 2,000 years.
A dragon boat team has 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer. Every member must work perfectly together. The drummer beats the drum to set the rhythm, the paddlers follow the beats to row at the same speed and the steerer guides the boat’s direction. If even one person loses focus, the boat slows down or goes off course.
Last year, I joined my school’s dragon boat team. At first, we argued about who should lead. Our coach told us, “In traditional Chinese culture, harmony (和谐) is key. Teamwork means every team member matters.” We practiced hard, learning to trust each other. During races, we shouted,“One, two, one, two!” and the boat darted forward.
However, the race day was windy. Our boat faced strong waves. Instead of feeling afraid, we rowed harder, following the drummer’s steady beats. We didn’t win first place, but we felt proud because we acted as one team. The festival reminded us that success isn’t just about speed; it’s about sticking together through challenges.
1.What is one main purpose of the Dragon Boat Festival besides eating zongzi?
2.How many people are there in a dragon boat team?
3.What role does the drummer play?
4.Why did the team feel proud even without winning?
5.How can we use the lesson of dragon boat teamwork in our daily life? Give an example.
【答案】1.To teach a deep lesson about team spirit through dragon boat racing. 2.22. 3.The drummer beats the drum to set the rhythm. 4.Because they acted as one team. 5.We can use it in group projects. For example, when doing a school project, each member should play their part and cooperate well, just like in dragon boat racing.
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了端午节龙舟赛所体现的团队精神,以及作者参加龙舟队的经历和感悟。

2.根据文章“A dragon boat team has 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer.”(一支龙舟队有20名划手、1名鼓手和1名舵手。)可推知,龙舟队共有22人。故填22.
3.根据文章“The drummer beats the drum to set the rhythm, the paddlers follow the beats to row at the same speed and the steerer guides the boat’s direction.”可知,鼓手的作用是击鼓设定节奏。故填The drummer beats the drum to set the rhythm.
4.根据文章“We didn’t win first place, but we felt proud because we acted as one team.”可知,团队感到自豪的原因是团结一致。故填Because they acted as one team.
5.文章核心是龙舟体现的团队协作,日常中团队项目(如学校作业、工作任务等)可借鉴,答案不唯一。参考答案为We can use it in group projects. For example, when doing a school project, each member should play their part and cooperate well, just like in dragon boat racing.
根据短文内容, 按要求回答问题。
People say teamwork is great, but I think it can sometimes make things harder. I used to work in an office, but now I work alone at home. It made me wonder: Why does teamwork cause problems instead of solving them?
Some people just want things their way. In a team, there’s often someone who talks the loudest or acts selfishly (自私地). Others might agree with them even if their ideas aren’t good. Teamwork feels like solving a puzzle (谜) with missing pieces when different personalities mix. It’s impossible to work well in those cases.
Time is another problem. Once, I was on a team that never met enough. We were all busy and had no time to talk about good plans. Teams need hours together to share ideas and listen—like a football team that practices every day. If players don’t train, they can’t win games.
Many teams also don’t learn how to work together. Trust doesn’t magically appear. You can’t throw strangers into a room and say, “Be a team!” You need to learn to respect each other and solve problems step by step. But most teams never get this training.
Working alone isn’t perfect, though. When my computer breaks, I miss having helpers nearby. When I think of a cool idea, there’s no one to ask, “Is this good?” Making all the decisions myself is fun, but it’s lonely too.
Still, I like my quiet “me team” better now. I decide everything, and there’s no arguing—quite independent! But I finally understand why my old teams failed. Good teamwork needs patience, time, and people who care about each other. Maybe one day, if I learn to fix those problems, my “me team” could grow into a real “we team.” After all, even the best players need a team to win.
1.Why did the writer leave teamwork for working alone? (No more than 8 words)
2.Why does the writer compare selfish team members to “a puzzle with missing pieces”? (No more than 8 words)
3.What does the football team example show about teamwork? (No more than 6 words)
4.What happens when teams don’t solve the problems step-by-step? (No more than 3 words)
5.Why does the writer call his team a “me team” but still want a “we team”? (With a sentence)
【答案】1.Because teamwork caused problems. 2.Different personalities mix poorly. 3.Teams need time together. 4.They fail. 5.He enjoys independence but recognizes teamwork’s value.
1.根据文章“People say teamwork is great, but I think it can sometimes make things harder.” Because teamwork caused problems.
2.根据文章“Teamwork feels like solving a puzzle with missing pieces when different personalities mix.”(当不同性格的人混在一起时,团队合作就像拼图缺了碎片)可知,作者将自私成员比作“缺失的拼图”,是因为性格差异导致合作困难。故填Different personalities mix poorly.
3.根据文章“Teams need hours together to share ideas and listen—like a football team that practices every day.”(团队需要时间共同分享想法和倾听,就像足球队每天训练一样)可知,足球队的例子说明团队需要投入时间磨合。故填Teams need time together.
4.根据文章“But most teams never get this training.”(但大多数团队从未接受过这种训练)及前文对团队失败原因的描述(如缺乏逐步解决问题),可推知,未逐步解决问题的团队会失败。故填They fail.
5.根据文章“I like my quiet ‘me team’... but I finally understand why my old teams failed. Good teamwork needs...”(我喜欢安静的“单人团队”……但也终于明白旧团队失败的原因。好的团队合作需要……)可知,作者享受独立决策的自由,但也意识到团队合作的价值。故填He enjoys independence but recognizes teamwork’s value.
The idea of teamwork is very important to the success of any team. All coaches talk about working as one unit or as a team that plays as one. Teamwork and unselfishness (无私) create a great team; without them a team cannot play well against other teams. You can have a group of superstars, but if they do not work well as one unit, they are not going to be successful. The team working as one unit is going to be successful. Here are some things to consider when you are looking at your team.
Does your team have agreed-upon goals they created as a team?
Do the players openly encourage and support one another?
Do they have open communication with one another, as well as the coaches?
Does each player know what their role in the team is?
Is there shared respect among the players and coaches?
Do the players use words such as “we” when referring to the team?
Have they created a positive team image for themselves?
Does the team as a whole want to improve their performance?
Does each member consider themselves as a “team player”?
A winning team has players that share common goals and a common dream. Teams come together through shared attitudes about a particular sport. They may come together for a number of different reasons, but their goals are the same—to achieve top performance and experience success. The ends may be different but the means by which one gets there is the same—teamwork.
Teamwork is something that must be on top of the list. Every player needs to understand how important it is for them to work smoothly together if they want to be successful. Each player must be true to the whole team and be willing to act unselfishly. When challenges (挑战) come, the team needs to deal with them in a positive manner. A sense of teamwork will play an important part in this. Just remember T. E. A.M.—Together Everyone Achieves More!

My name is Ann. I worked as a volunteer in 2013 because I wanted to do something to help others. I called some charity shops (慈善商店) to ask if they needed volunteers. Although I didn’t mind where I volunteered. I was glad that one of the Sue Ryder shops said yes. Sue Ryder was a charity very close to my heart because volunteers from Sue Ryder once cared for my dad in the hospital.
Volunteering in the shop helped me know what shop work was like and I was surprised to find how much I really enjoyed doing it. I also found how important the public (公众) were. Lots of people gave us things they didn’t need for the shops to sell. In this way Sue Ryder raised money to care for people with life-changing illness. I always left the charity shop late because I knew how important the work of Sue Ryder was.
Another thing I enjoyed about volunteering was talking with other volunteers in the shop. They were friendly and helpful. I really improved my teamwork skills by volunteering.
I worked in the shop from April 1st to August 1st. I learned many things from it and I’m sure they will be useful in the future.
1.Did Ann’s father get any help from one of the Sue Ryder shops?
2.When did Ann work as an volunteer?

A Teacher’s Journal
April 14
When my students work together on projects, everything usually works out. I had my doubts①today, though, when I put Sharla, Tess, and Lee together to make a model volcano②.
At one point, I knew something was going to get out of control, and it wasn’t the volcanol. I knew the girls weren’t good friends, but I always encouraged my students to learn to work together with all their classmates. I could tell they felt a little shy when they sat down for their first planning meeting. The students in other groups asked me questions, so I didn’t watch the three girls for a while. When I turned to look at them again, one looked angry, another looked sad, and the third was almost crying. Oh no!
As I went back, they all started talking at once. Tess didn’t want to have to touch “that icky paste③” to build the volcano. Sharla had some new ideas, but she couldn’t make the other two understand her. Lee thought they should stop talking and get to work at once.
I ________ and suggested that they make a list of the things they had all agreed on. They then told me they had already agreed that they were going to make a volcano out of flour, salt and water. But they couldn’t reach an agreement on the size, the base for the volcano, or who should mix the paste. Each girl had her own ideas and wouldn’t change her mind for teamwork or progress.
By this time, the group work was over and it was time for lunch break. The girls made very little progress and I thought it was probably my mistake. Maybe these three students just couldn’t work together in a group.
①doubt怀疑 ②volcano火山
③icky paste恶心的胶水
1.Sharla, Tess, and Lee were good friends, weren’t they?
2.Why didn’t the teacher watch the three girls for a while?
3.How did the three girls look when the teacher turned to look at them again?
4.What can be filled in the blank in Paragraph Four? (Answer with no more than 10 words)
5.What did the girls reach an agreement on for the model volcano?
6.Do you think the three girls could work together in a group? Why or why not?
【答案】1.No, they weren’t. 2.Because the students in other groups asked the teacher questions. 3.One looked angry, another looked sad, and the third was almost crying. 4.calmed them down 5.They agreed to make a volcano out of flour, salt and water. 6.No, I don’t think so. Because each girl had her own ideas and wouldn’t change her mind for teamwork or progress.

Teamwork is important for the success of any company or organization. We may easily forget that the team is made up of individuals (个体). Everyone in the team plays an important role. To be honest, the team can win if everyone puts his or her effort into the team.
Not everyone is the same in any team. Some members are more careful to watch out for small things. Others may be good at coming up with new ideas, which can make the team develop faster. It’s clear that everyone has his or her values.
Sports teams are perfect examples. Many players working together can achieve much more than one player alone. For example, you may not be the best goal scorer, but you’re great at moving the ball forward. You know that if you pass that ball to the person who can score, the team will have a better chance of winning. Everyone in the team plays a different role according to his or her strong points.
Therefore, if you want to be a good teammate, make sure you can understand the group’s goals. Ask key questions like “Why are we here? What roles and responsibilities will each of us have…” When you communicate with your team members, it’s important to stay understanding.
1.How can a team win?
2.What will happen if someone in the team often comes up with new ideas?
3.How does each person play a different role in the team?
4.What is important when communicating with team members?
5.Do you like to work in a team? Why or why not?
【答案】1.A team can win if everyone puts his or her effort into the team. 2. Teamwork is like a magic that helps us achieve amazing things! No matter what we do, working together makes everything better. However, it is not always easy to be a good team. Let’s learn how to build a strong team together!
A good leader is the heart of a successful team. Leaders should cheer teammates up, listen to ideas, help solve problems and so on. For example, leaders can praise team members’ efforts and help them set clear goals. When leaders show kindness and confidence, team members feel safe and encouraged.
Communication is the glue that holds teams together. We need to express our feelings and ideas clearly so that we can understand each other better. Good communication helps us a lot during teamwork.
Disagreements are normal in any team. When arguments happen, don’t run away! The best way is to solve problems face-to-face quickly. The leader should help people talk calmly and listen to their opinions instead of taking sides.
The team leader must set a good example. If the leader arrives late or is tired of work, team members might follow. But if the leader works hard with a smile, everyone will feel encouraged. A leader’s spirit is like sunshine that lights up the whole team.

The Power of Teamwork in Sports
Sports are a great way to learn about teamwork. Whether it’s a basketball game, a soccer match, or a relay race, working together as a team is essential for success.
Take basketball, for example. A basketball team has five players on the court. Each player has a different role: the point guard controls the ball and sets up plays, the shooting guard scores points, the small forward is versatile and can do many things, the power forward rebounds and defends, and the center is tall and blocks shots. If each player only thinks about their own performance, the team will not do well. But if they pass the ball to each other, help defend, and work together, they have a better chance of winning.
In a relay race, teamwork is even more important. Each runner has to pass a baton to the next runner. If the pass is not smooth, the team might lose the race. So, the runners practice passing the baton again and again until they can do it perfectly. They also support each other, cheering each other on during the race.
Soccer is another sport where teamwork is key. The players have to communicate with each other on the field, telling each other where the opponents are and where to pass the ball. They have to trust each other, knowing that their teammates will be there to help. A single player can’t win a soccer game alone; it takes the whole team working together.
Teamwork in sports teaches us many important lessons. It teaches us to communicate with others, to trust our teammates, and to work towards a common goal. It also teaches us that winning is not everything; what’s important is how we play the game and how we support each other.
So, the next time you watch or play a sport, remember the power of teamwork. It’s what makes a good team great.

1.Where did the writer go on a trip?
2.What were they doing when the storm came?
3.Did they make a fire successfully?
4.Why did they give up the trip?
5.What can we learn from the trip?

3.What did the study show?
4.Did childhood labor work help children understand teamwork according to the study?
5.What labor work do you think you can do in your daily lives?

①Human beings have been curious about Mars since the planet was first discovered. For many years, scientists have been working toward ways to best explore the red planet.
②A group of senior students from Beijing have shown great interest in Mars and started a project to explore it. Wang Taozhi, 17, the leader in this project, put forward a plan to develop a system to study pictures of common minerals (矿物) on Mars. It is also hoped to classify (分类) these minerals. “The challenge is to master knowledge about computer coding, AI and algorithms (算法) and how to put this knowledge into practice. We failed many times but we finally succeeded,” said Wang.
③When Wang Taozhi was in Junior 1, he learned basic knowledge of C++, a programming (编程) language, in a computer technology course. He was interested in programming and spent hours a day studying it. Wang then joined the Maker Space of his school, a platform that encourages students to create something new with the help of modern technology. In the Maker Space, he learned more about robotics and coding, developing a software which helped teachers in class.
④Wang also learned necessary information through other means in his spare time, including trustworthy journals (权威期刊) and even online videos. “I read papers on minerals,” Wang said. “Also, I gained AI basics through some videos on Bilibili.”
⑤To successfully finish the project, good teamwork is important. Wang Taozhi and his teammates You Zhibin and Zhang Beining had a hard time planning their meetings since they had different class timetables and study plans. To get over this challenge, they carried out different tasks based on each person’s strengths, set a deadline and set up regular meetings. It’s hard to balance one’s studies and personal interests, but they have found a way to do it.
⑥“In the beginning, I borrowed others’ ideas but now I come up with my own ideas and have made them practical,” Wang said. “That’s exactly why we support such projects. It was a good chance to _____________” said Li Ning, the mentor (导师) of this project.
1.Did Wang Taozhi show interest in programming when he was in Junior 1?
2.Why did Wang put forward a plan to develop a system?
3.What made Wang Taozhi’s project a success?
4.Please finish Li Ning’s words in the last paragraph. (At least 20 words)

Volunteering in your neighborhood gives you a chance to give back. You’ll feel happy that you are volunteering your time.
Teamwork makes the dream work. Working well with others is one of the important qualities (品质) that make a good volunteer. The best volunteers always work comfortably in ever-changing teams with people from all walks of life. They can take on both the leader (领导) and the follower roles in teamwork at different times.
Patience is also one of the most important qualities of a good volunteer, because most charities and organizations may not always move as quickly as we think. It’s important to find volunteers who are glad to be patient and keep doing something.
Many volunteer roles are physically and mentally exhausting (使身心俱疲的) , so make sure your team is ready to do something. Some roles will be more physical than others. It is important to tell the volunteers about that. Don’t forget that one of the surprising good things of volunteering is that it’s good for both physical and mental health.
Volunteers must step out of their comfort zone (舒适区) as they learn new skills and face new problems. It is a sunny day in Seattle (西雅图). Some children are sitting under a tree and talking about soil (土壤). They are 9 to 12 years old and they are very happy with it.
They have a question: What kind of soil do plants need to grow well?
“RIIIIICH!” one girl says very loudly.
They agree on what rich soil looks like and feels like—brown, soft (柔软的) and wet. This is Fruit Science Summer Camp made by the Seattle City Park. Belinda Chin works for the Seattle City Park and helps people get good food. She says they are doing this camp in the city because some people here don’t have enough space to grow food.
Sometimes at the camp, they go to the kitchen in the building to make food. In the kitchen, Jones and McDowell help children make ice-cream with fruit. They mix fruit and milk together and put them in small bags. Then they put the bags inside bigger bags with ice and salt. Each kid shakes their bag until it becomes ice cream.

1.What can make a great team?
2.Which is more important to the success of a team, teamwork or superstars?
3.How many things should be considered when you are looking at your team?
4.How do teams come together according to the passage?
5.What will a team need to do when challenges come?
6.What is the passage mainly about?

3.Who did the Sue Ryder charity shop raise money for?
4.How did Ann think of the other volunteers in the shop?
5.How long did Ann work in the Sue Ryder charity shop?

No matter our age or job, teamwork skills are so important. When we work together, we can get over challenges and create wonderful results. Let’s practice being good team members and leaders today
