Molly and her classmates visited the Migratory Bird Centre last Saturday. When they got there, Evans greeted them.
Evans showed the students around the centre. Along the way, Molly saw some workers catching birds with nets. She was surprised. “Why do the workers do that to the cute birds? The birds seem poor,” she said. Evans answered, “Don’t worry! Workers catch them to put bands (带状物) on their legs. There is a number on each band. After that, they will let the birds fly away.” Molly then learned that the bands are useful when people want to know how many birds there are.
Then Molly and her classmates continued (继续) their visit. They watched many birds in the trees and listened to their songs.
Evans told them that many birds were in great danger. After hearing that, Molly wanted to help save birds. She thought about ways she could help, like planting trees and keeping the area clean.

The Sound of Trees
Everyone has their own way to protect our planet—some pick up rubbish, and others stop using plastic bags. But for composer (作曲家) Liang Haoyi, he chooses music. Through his new work Tree, Liang calls on people to protect trees and respect nature.
Tree is made up of five movements (乐章). The first part brings people into a lively forest. Sweet birdsong is heard with the sound of leaves waving gently in the wind. As the forest turns quiet, a cello (大提琴) starts to sing softly. It sounds like a tree telling its peaceful life story. In the next movement, the music becomes faster. It brings to mind the sad scene of people cutting down trees one by one. The forest becomes impossible to see slowly as the music goes on. Then, the third part shows how people feel sorry for cutting down trees. They start to ask themselves what they should do to make things right. After that comes a powerful movement. People take action to plant new trees and rebuild the nature. The final movement is filled with bright tunes (曲调), with people finally bringing back the green mountains.
Before he started writing Tree, Liang took a walk deep into the forests, with his ears fully open. The beautiful sounds of trees, birds and the wind were like a special gift to his ears, giving him lots of ideas for his music.
Liang hopes people could hear the message in his music. “To some people, one tree may seem unimportant, but a forest starts to lose its life as soon as the first tree falls,” he said. “I hope everyone will care for every tree. If we all work on it together, small trees can grow into great forests, and forests can grow into green mountains.”

HEY buddy, buddy, tell me, which panda do you think is the cutest in the world?
Did you say Meng Lan? Haha, I’m glad many of you did! Since I was born in July 2015, I’ve been the cutest, smartest, friendliest and most handsome panda in the world!
Now, I’m living at the Beijing Zoo. I’m the most popular panda here. Do you want to see me? Well, rush towards me as soon as the zoo opens at 7:30 a.m.! If you’re not a good runner, then I’m afraid the only thing you’re going to see is a very large crowd outside of my room.
I’m also the busiest (my keepers use the word “naughtiest”, but I think it should be “busiest”) panda in the zoo. I’ve kept a few birds as my pets. I feed them daily. Most of them have become as chubby (and cute) as me. I enjoy digging tunnels in my room, too. However, every time I do this, my keepers come inside of my room and stand behind me. Then, I have to pretend that I’m looking for some grass to eat.
I’m also interested in working out. I’m good at doing splits (劈一字腿), and I do sit-ups (仰卧起坐) almost every day. I’ve even tried to climb up the wall of my room (I want to shake hands with my fans). Every time that my keepers tell me not to do this, I nod my head. But as soon as they’re gone, I start planning out my next climb!
I’ve learned that I’ll soon have a new neighbour. Granny Ya Ya is returning from her 20-year stay in the US. I think she’ll be happier and healthier back here. But one thing will not change: I’ll still be the cutest, smartest, friendliest and most handsome panda in the world!
Summary
My favourite animal is a giant panda named Meng Lan. He was born in 87 . I think he is the 88 , smartest, friendliest and most handsome panda in the world.
When I go to see Meng Lan on weekends, I often arrive at the zoo early. When the gate opens at 89 , I run as fast as I can to see him. As soon as I see him, a smile comes to my face. After a while, many other visitors will come to his room to see him too. Yes, he is very 90 !
Meng Lan is always 91 doing many different activities. Every day, he feeds his pet birds and 92 , such as splits and sit-ups. He likes to dig 93 and climb trees. What a lovely and interesting boy!

People know animals have feelings, but can we understand them? Scientists studied dogs’ tails (尾巴) to find out. ▲ It says that humans can tell if a dog is happy or sad by watching its tail.
The researchers showed dogs different things. Sometimes they gave the dogs their favorite toys or food. Sometimes there was nothing. When dogs saw something they liked, they wagged (摇动) their tails fast and high. When there was nothing, their tails moved slowly and low. The scientists recorded these movements with a camera.
