In Southern China, spring gets gradually warmer and the daytime becomes longer. Opposite of the North, the South experiences a beautiful spring although with a bit of rain here and there.
During summer, June and July are the hottest months in China. The places that experience the true summer heat the most are cities. In August, the temperature starts to ________ in preparation for autumn. But perhaps summer is better known in China not for its heat but for its wetness. No one knows what the weather is going to be like in the future, but many people think there are going to be some differences.
According to the scientists, one difference is that in many places it’s going to be much hotter and it’s going to rain less. Some countries in Africa are going to become very dry all year round, and people can hardly find food and water. In Southern Europe and the United States, it’s going to be less easy for plants to grow. People there are also going to have problems finding food in the future.
No one knows how much warmer it is going to be, but scientists say that the change is going to be at least 2℃. They say that the ice in the Arctic (北极) is going to melt in the next years and a lot of the animals there are going to die. There is also going to be more water in the sea, so cities near the sea are going to disappear.
Another difference is that there are going to be more hurricanes and typhoons (飓风和台风). Scientists say they are going to happen all over the world, and many people are going to lose their homes.

In Britain, people usually begin their talks with the weather. For example, they will say “It’s a fine day, isn’t it?” “Do you think it will rain?”
Many people believe (相信) that they are able to tell what the weather will be like. But they never agree with each other. One man may say, “How cloudy (阴的) it is now! It’s going to rain.” Another man will say, “No, it’s going to be fine later.”
People always hope for the weather they want. For example, when a farmer needs water, he looks for something to tell him it’s going to rain. When a man wants to travel, he is sure the weather will be fine soon.
Now almost everyone listens to the weather report. It doesn’t always tell us the weather we want, and it only tells us what the weather will be like. But sometimes it makes mistakes.

Different weather makes people feel different. It influences health, intelligence (智力) and feelings.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, IQ (智商) of a group students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% below. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18°C, people become stronger.
Low air pressure (气压) may make people forgetful. People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. There is a “good weather” for work and health. People feel best at a temperature of about 18 centigrade (摄氏度).
Are you feeling sad, tired, forgetful, or unhappy today It may be the weather’ s problem.
1.The underlined word “influence” in the passage means ________ in Chinese.
A.决定 B.管理 C.破坏 D.影响

5.The passage most probably comes from ________.
A.a storybook B.an advertisement
C.a travel magazine D.a newspaper
Cold air swept across the north part of China in the first week of November. At the same time, a global (全球的) meeting on climate (气候) change was held in Scotland. There, leaders around the world tried to control global warming.
Why are we experiencing such a cold winter on a warming planet? The cold winter and global warming, two opposite facts, are not contradictory.
Because of the warming climate, the temperature in winter in China has risen by 0. 41° C every ten years since 1961. But in some places, it has also been pretty low.
Global warming has changed Earth’s air circulation (循环) and the weather. For example, in October, La Nina affected (影响) China. It was caused by strong winds from the Pacific Ocean. ________.
Another reason for the cold weather is the warming Arctic (北极) . It is warming almost three times as fast as any other places on Earth.

A new and exciting way of doing weather forecasts is here! China’s television station now uses high-tech simulations (虚拟) to create realistic scenes in the studio. In a recent video about Super Typhoon Yagi, people watched as strong winds blew the weather reporter’s umbrella away and a “tree” was uprooted. This new way of forecasting weather helps people understand how serious storms can be.
China Media Group Mobile made this video to warn people about the dangers of Super Typhoon Yagi and to tell them how to stay safe. But people were surprised by how real the video looked.
The weather reporter started by talking about the weather. Then, she moved to a street with heavy winds and rain, created by extended (拓展) reality (XR) technology. XR is a group of technologies that includes augmented (增强) reality (AR), virtual (虚拟) reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR).
The video showed different things that could happen during a typhoon, like trees falling and umbrellas blown away. It made people feel like they were really there, experiencing the typhoon.
With XR technology, the scenes looked real and helped people learn about the dangers of extreme (极端的) weather. Many people who watched the video said they loved the new way of doing weather forecasts because it helped them understand better.
Super Typhoon Yagi was the strongest autumn typhoon to hit the Chinese mainland since 1949. It caused a lot of damage and problems for people. The new way of doing weather forecasts helps people see how serious extreme weather can be.
