On the afternoon of November 14, Beijing Time, the Shenzhou-20 taikonaut (中国航天员)crew — Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui, and Wang Jie — successfully landed at the Dongfeng Landing Site by taking the Shenzhou-21 spaceship. This marked a safe end to their 204-day space mission. Their return was first planned for November 5, but it was put off for nine days. The reason was a small crack in Shenzhou-20’s porthole(舷窗), which was caused by space debris (碎片)hitting it.
This never-seen-before emergency started China’s well-prepared “one main and one backup” space rescue plan. Instead of taking the risk of coming back in the damaged spaceship, the crew moved to Shenzhou-21. This is the first time in China’s manned space history that another working spaceship has carried a different group of taikonauts back to Earth. While waiting for the new return time, the three taikonauts kept doing scientific experiments with the Shenzhou-21 crew. They added useful data to their research.
During their record-breaking stay in space, the Shenzhou-20 team finished four spacewalks, seven cargo transfer tasks, and a set of advanced experiments in space life sciences and materials science. Their achievements, including heating tungsten alloy (钨合金)to 3100°C, provided very important data for related fields.
The smooth emergency return fully showed how reliable China’s manned space engineering system is. From the quick start of the emergency plan to the accurate teamwork of the ground team and the spacecraft’s smart response to faults, every part proved that China’s space abilities are getting better. After landing, the taikonauts were checked and found to be in good health. This mission proved that China’s space program has passed the test successfully and given a great answer to the nation’s hopes.

On November 5, 2025, the opening ceremony of CNS Fujian(中国海军福建舰) was held at a military port in Sanya, Hainan. As China's third aircraft carrier(航空母舰) and its first one equipped with an electromagnetic catapult(电磁弹射器), the CNS Fujian's entry into service means that China has finally and officially entered the "three-carrier era."
CNS Fujian is completely designed and built by China itself. Its full-load weight is more than 80,000 tons. Different from CNS Liaoning and CNS Shandong, which use the ski-jump takeoff way, CNS Fujian has the world's advanced electromagnetic catapult technology (EMALS). This technology lets carrier planes like J-15T, J-35 and KJ-600 take off with enough fuel and bullets. This makes their fighting range longer in a good way.
Before it started working, CNS Fujian went through strict tests. In May 2024, it finished its first sea test. This test checked if its power and electrical systems worked well. In September 2025, three kinds of carrier planes successfully did their first catapult takeoffs(弹射起飞) and arrested landings on it. This made a strong base for its formal service.
Having three aircraft carriers is very important for strategy. CNS Liaoning and CNS Shandong mainly take charge of near-sea defense and daily ready-for-fight patrols(巡逻). But CNS Fujian focuses on high-intensity tasks, like controlling the air and stopping enemy ships. This builds a helpful multi-level fighting system. It lets the navy use different ships in turn for fixing, training and being ready for fight.
CNS Fujian starting service is a big step in China's naval modernization. It not only makes China better at protecting its national rights, safety and maritime interests, but also helps keep peace and stability in the area. It tells the world that China has made fast progress in naval technology. It also shows the country's strong will to protect its legal rights and interests.
1. What can we learn about CNS Fujian from Paragraph 2?
A. It is heavier than CNS Liaoning and CNS Shandong
B. It can carry more carrier planes than the other two
C. It is the first aircraft carrier built by China
D. It has a better takeoff technology than the other two carriers
2. Why did CNS Fujian go through strict tests before service?
C. To train the pilots of carrier planes
D. To set a new record for sea tests
A. To show its advanced technology to the world
B. To make sure it can work safely and well
3. What does the “multi-level fighting system” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. The three carriers will work in the same area
B. CNS Fujian will replace the other two carriers soon
C. Each carrier has its own main tasks and works together
D. The navy will use only one carrier for tasks at a time
4.What can we infer about China's naval development from the passage?
A. China's navy technology is among the best in the world
B. China will build more than three aircraft carriers
C. China's navy only focuses on near-sea defense
D. China depends on other countries for carrier technology
5. What is the main idea of this passage?

They even got the nickname “Dawan Chickens” (Dawan stands for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area). This lovely name made the mascots loved by people all over the country. Related topics about them got millions of views online.
The mascots are designed from Chinese white dolphins. These are rare animals that live in the Pearl River Estuary near the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. There are three-colored waves on their heads. The colors stand for Guangdong's kapok (木棉花)red, Hong Kong's bauhinia (紫荆花)purple and Macao's lotus(莲花) green. This shows the unity of the three places. But their round bodies and lively poses made people think of Guangdong's famous chicken dishes. Since chicken is very important in Cantonese food, this funny nickname came into being. Liu Pingyun, the head of the design team, was happy with this public understanding. He hoped to let more people know the mascots' meaning.
The mascots are also popular because of their energetic shows. Students from local martial arts (武术)schools dress up as them. Collins Dictionary recently named “vibe coding” (氛围编程)its Word of the Year for 2025. This term means a new way of making software. It uses artificial intelligence (AI) to turn natural language into computer code. To put it simply, you just tell a machine what you want, instead of writing hard code by yourself.
The term was made by Andrej Karpathy. He is a famous AI expert who once worked at Tesla and OpenAI. He said it is using AI to create apps without thinking about code. Collins chose this word because it shows how language changes with technology. As AI becomes more and more important in daily life, vibe coding is making programming easier for people who are not experts.
Many other interesting terms were on the shortlist (入围名单). “Clanker”(机械佬) is a British slang word for robots or AI. It has a somewhat negative meaning. “Broligarchy” (兄弟寡头圈)means a small group of rich men who have great political influence. “HENRY” stands for “high earner, not rich yet”. It describes people who earn a lot but haven’t saved much wealth.
There are also work-related words like “taskmasking” (职场摸鱼)and “micro-retirement”. The first one means pretending to work hard at your job. The second one means taking a break between two jobs to do things you like. Terms like “biohacking”(生物黑客) and “coolcation”(凉假) were also on the list. “Biohacking” is improving health by changing how your body works. “Coolcation” is a holiday in a place with cool weather.

Xpeng's new humanoid robot(人形机器人), IRON, became very popular online. It happened after it showed an unexpectedly graceful "catwalk" at the company's 2025 Technology Day event. Its almost human-like way of walking—with body turns and natural arm and leg swings—and lifelike posture started online discussions. Some people guessed a person might be controlling it from inside. To answer these doubts, engineers released a 7-minute one-take video. They opened the robot's back shell to show its inner lattice muscles and harmonic joints. At the same time, the robot kept moving smoothly. This proved it could work all by itself. This amazing show even got praise from Elon Musk. He wrote "Great design" on social media.
This great moving ability comes from many important technical breakthroughs. IRON has 82 full-body degrees of freedom (including 62 active joints) and a spine that is just like a human's. These let it bend flexibly and keep balance well. It has synthetic bionic (合成仿生)muscles and special foot parts. With these, it can walk stably and naturally, breaking the idea that robots are "stiff". Three self-made Turing AI chips power its movements. They can do 2250 TOPS of computing work per second. These chips work with Xpeng's Physical World Large Model to help the robot adapt to the environment in real time. The robot also has tactile sensors and a 3D curved display to show emotions. This makes interaction between humans and the robot better.
Looking to the future, Xpeng plans to mass-produce IRON by the end of 2026. The company has worked with Baosteel to explore using the robot for industrial inspection. This makes IRON China's first humanoid robot with a heavy industry order. This "catwalk" show is a key step toward the practical use of humanoid robots. IRON is ready to change industries from manufacturing to services. It will speed up the time when intelligent robots are part of daily life and production.

On November 1, 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM大埃及博物馆) officially opened to the public. It is one of the most wonderful cultural projects of the 21st century. The museum covers about 500,000 square meters. That is as big as 70 football fields or twice the size of the Louvre Museum in Paris. So, it is famous as the world’s largest museum that focuses on just one civilization. What’s special is that it is only two kilometers away from the Great Pyramids of Giza. This makes a great connection between the ancient wonders and modern building skills.
International media have spoken highly of the museum. The Financial Times said it is a “must-see place”. It also talked about the museum’s excellent design, which gives visitors more than the usual museum experiences. National Geographic pointed out its unique location. It noted that the museum links the “view of the Pyramids with the treasures of Tutankhamun” very well. The building’s design was made by Heneghan Peng Architects after an international competition. The modern structure respects and matches the ancient monuments, but it still has its own special style.
Inside the museum, visitors can see a fantastic collection of old things. Since Tutankhamun’s treasures were found in 1922, this is the first time that all of them are shown together. These treasures include his famous golden mask and throne. A big staircase takes visitors past many royal statues and old objects. At the end, they can get an amazing direct view of the pyramids through the large glass wall. Unlike Cairo’s old Egyptian Museum, which was only 10,000 square meters, this big space can show more than 100,000 artifacts at the same time. It lets visitors have a new and deep experience that they have never had before.
The opening of the museum is a very important moment for Egypt. People think it is key to making its tourism industry better.

When the 15th National Games started in Guangzhou, its official mascots(吉祥物), “Xiyangyang” and “Lerongrong”, soon became stars on the Internet.
They practiced for months to put on flexible acts, like spinning and dancing. Their lively interactions made them loved by people online. Outside the sports fields, products with their images are very popular. Many of these products were sold out quickly.

These words not only show a world that is changing, but also how our language grows with new trends. Vibe coding, in particular, is a good example of how AI is changing the way we use technology.
