soon."What she said gave me great courage and confidence.
In the following weeks,I made a lot of new friends and met so many people. My friends

TikTok has reported it will block young users on the social networking platform from
using certain beauty filters()on photographs.
The filters allow users to edit photos and do things like making people's skin look clearer,
their eyes a little bigger or their lips a little fuller. Some filters also allow users to change
their skin colour, and it can be hard to see when a photograph has been edited in this way.
People under the age of 18 will be blocked from using these filters. Some of them are
created by users and others are made by the app.TikTok posted the changes after a report by
Internet Matters,a children's online safety organisation. The organisation found that these
beauty filters could be harmful to children's mental health(心理健康)because they put young
people under pressure to look a certain way. This can harm children's self-esteem()and
cause worry,experts say.
Christine Grahn from TikTok said on LinkedIn,"If our users don't feel safe, they won't
bring their true selves to TikTok and the platform just wouldn't be the same."One TikTok
user told The Guardian in2022 that she had considered getting cosmetic surgery(美容手术)
after a period of using beauty filters on the app.
Fun filters that allow children to add dog noses or rabbit ears to images will still be OK to
use.One problem with the ban()is that not all users enter their real ages when signing
up to TikTok.The company said it would soon be trying out new machine learning systems
that could help find out when users had entered the incorrect age,but it is under pressure to
stop under 13s from using the platform by giving untrue dates of birth.
Children's safety organisations want all social media sites to do more to make the
platforms safe spaces for young people.
28.What will TikTok do about certain beauty filters for young users?
A.Test their safety.
B.Post their advantages.
C.Ban the use of them.
D.Increase their users.
29.What is the influence of the beauty filters?
A.It encourages creativity.
B.It makes children worried.
C.It develops self-esteem.
D.It stops children from communicating.
30.Why is Christine Grahn mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A.To show the harm of beauty filters.
B.To make readers more interested.
C.To warn children to stay away from Internet.
D.To introduce cosmetic surgery.
31.What problem does TikTok have with the ban?
A.Users might not like it.
B.It's hard to check how old users are.
C.Users might misunderstand the rule.
D.It doesn't receive support from parents.

Researchers in Australia, who studied 1,500 people and their lifestyles, have found that
having good friends can help you live longer. An American study of 10,000 students, over a
period of 35 years, also found that if you make more friends than the average()person
at school, you'll receive a higher salary()in later life.People need good social skills at
work to manage people and work in a team successfully. These are the same skills we use to
make friends at school.
On average, teenagers aged between 15 and 17 have 500 "friends"on their favourite social
networking site.Adults have 130.So if you believe this research, you might live for a long
time and be very rich.
However, according to Professor Robin Dunbar from the University of Oxford,it
probably won't make any difference.Dunbar studied the number of messages between users of
a popular social networking website, each of whom had between 200 and 2,000 friends. He
found that they always communicate with a maximum(最大量)ofl50 people.
Among these 150,Dunbar believes that around five people are close friends. You've most
likely known them for a long time;they are probably old friends and you share all your good
and bad experiences with them. Then there are ten more friends.Although they're close to
you,you may not keep in touch with them every week.Next there are 35 people who you
might spend time with because of a shared interest.You aren't close.And finally,there's a
large group of 100.You see or speak to these people at least once a year, but you don't know
them well.Beyond this number,Dunbar says,it's impossible to make any relationship
meaningful.
If you have a lot of online "friends",try this experiment:First take away anyone you
haven't been in touch with for a year. Then remove people you can't remember and, finally,
take away friends who you wouldn't mind losing touch with. How many do you have left?
How many of these people are actually good friends?According to the research, these are the
only people that really matter.
32.What are the studies in the first paragraph mainly about?
A.Some useful advice on how to make friends.
B.Some social skills you may need at work.
C.The advantages of having a lot of friends.
D.The number of friends you should have.
33.What is Robin Dunbar's attitude towards the studies?
A.Unfavourable.B.Unclear.
C.Hopeful.
D.Careless.
34.What does the text mainly want to show?
A.It's more important to have good friends than lots of friends.
B.Friends are sometimes more important than family.
C.There is a lot of research on the influence of friends.
D.You need to spend more time with your friends.
35.In which part of a newspaper can we read the text?
A.Nature.
B.Technology.
C.Lifestyle.
D.Education.

There's a reason why so many people love running early in the morning.36 Not only

achievement. If you think you're ready to take advantage of the benefits()of a morning
run, here are four suggestions from the experts.
【高一英语第5页(共8页)】
OFind a friend, and be gentle with yourself
Finding a partner to run with will give you someone to be responsible for,and make it

can't expect to do it perfectly from the beginning.37 Once you get into the habit,it
becomes natural and actually starts your day.

"The first few steps or blocks will be hard in the morning. They always are,"says Dr.
Jordan Metzl, who has finished over 32 marathons. With a practice of more than 20,000
patients,Metzl's days are quite busy,so early morning runs are a must.38 "Sometimes
you have to just do it,and remember that the motivation(will come later,"he says.
●Stay warm
39 "If I go to bed in my sports wear, all I need to do is throw on the outer layers and
head out the door, says Tina Muir,a half-marathoner.She also leaves her alarm on the other
side of the room to help push herself up.
●40
“I view waking up early as getting off a Band-Aid(创可贴),”says Michele Gonzalez,a
running coach."It's gonna hurt for a bit.Her advice is relatively simple."You just have to
set the alarm early and start doing it,"she says."After a few days, you'll be tired earlier at
night and will start going to bed earlier. This makes the early alarm feel a bit more
manageable.”
A.Accept and manage the pain.
