I don’t know what’s wrong with my brain. My memory started to become shockingly complete in 1974, when I was eight years old. From 1980 on, it has been near perfect. Give me a date from that year forward, and I can immediately tell you what day of the week it was, what I did on that day, and what happened on that day.
I can recall memories at will. But my remembering, in fact, is not under my control. My memories automatically (自动地) flash forward and backward in my head through the years of my life. What does it feel like? Well, just imagine this: Someone started to make videos of you when you were a child, and has been continuously following you around all day, every day. This person has placed all of these videos onto a single DVD, and you are being forced to watch it over and over again. There you are as a ten-year-old in your living room watching your favorite TV program. Then, suddenly, you’re on the beach during a family vacation when you were twelve. I never know what I might remember next.
As I grew up, a great many new memories were being stored in my brain, with more and more of them endlessly flashing through my mind. I became a prisoner to my own memory. My mother would tell me not to care so much about the past. I’d try to explain that I didn’t really care about the past. The memories just flooded my mind. But nobody could understand me.
My greatest hope now is that scientists will discover something about my brain in the near future. I hope their findings will help them learn more about the human mind.

Memory is important to learning, and it is a shared goal for all students to improve it. While traditional rote memorization (死记硬背) plays a role, storytelling memory methods are increasingly recognized.
Storytelling is not just an art, but a science deeply connected to our brain’s functioning (运行). It has a significant impact (重大影响) on memory, deeply rooted in our history. Our ancestors (祖先) used stories to pass on wisdom, culture, and survival skills, which shaped our brains to prefer storytelling forms. When we tell a story, many brain parts are activated, especially those related to emotions, senses, and social interactions. Stories full of emotion help give off dopamine (多巴胺), which helps remember stories better. Moreover, the structured stories, with a beginning, middle, and an end, mirror how our brains organize information, making it easier to remember complex (复杂) data. Also, stories that contain relatable elements are more memorable.
To create effective stories for better memory, several skills can be used. Picture the information as a vivid story, imagine characters, settings, and actions to turn it into a mental movie that is easier to recall. Adding emotional depth and personal meaning to the story can greatly improve people’s memory. And try to link them to familiar experiences. Dividing information into smaller parts can help in organization and recall. Creating a story timeline which provides a clear order of events can also raise memory performance. When describing clearly about how things look, sound, smell, taste, and feel in the story, it strengthens (加强) memory connections. If you relate the story’s content to personal experiences, it creates a stronger memory. Finally, regular repeating and reviewing of these stories can help remember the information better.
Storytelling can be used in various areas. When studying for exams, turning study material into stories makes complex subjects more understandable and memorable. In language learning, using new vocabularies in storytelling makes the process more interesting. For remembering names and faces, one could associate them with stories. When mastering new skills, narrating (叙述) the learning steps as a journey may simplify (简化) the process.
In conclusion, storytelling is a powerful tool for raising memory apart from traditional memorization methods. Whether for learning new subjects, professional development, or personal growth, storytelling. offers a path to a stronger memory and a more enriched learning experience.
33. Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?

C. Our brains prefer rote memorization when learning new words.
D. Storytelling is a new learning method for people to practice.

Do you like writing by hand or with a keyboard? A new brain study at Norwegian University of Science and Technology shows that choosing handwriting instead of using a keyboard results in better learning and memory.
“When you write your shopping list or class notes by hand, you simply remember what you wrote better later,” said Audrey van der Meer, who did the study.
12 young grown-ups and 12 children took part in the study. Special machines were used to follow and record brain wave activities. Each person wore a special cap with over 250 electrodes (极) on the head, and was asked to write by hand and use a keyboard. The sensors in the electrodes picked up the activities that took place in the brain. Each examination took 45 minutes for each person.
The results showed that the brain in both young grown-ups and children was much more active when writing by hand than when using a keyboard. According to Van der Meer, plenty of senses become active by holding a pen and putting it down on paper, seeing the letters written and hearing the sound made while writing. These build connection between different parts of the brain, opening the brain up for learning.
Van der Meer believes that the results let us know the importance of children being asked to draw and write at an early age, “Learning to write by hand is a slower course, but it’s important for children to experience the tiring step of learning to write by hand,” she said.
The hand movements used to form the shapes of letters are helpful in several ways. “If you use a keyboard, you use the same movement for each letter. Writing by hand needs control of your fine motor (精细动作) skills and senses. It’s important to put the brain in a learning condition as often as possible,” Van der Meer added, For example, you might use a keyboard to write an article, but you should take notes by hand during a class.
37. Which is the correct order of the study?
①Record and study the results.
②Put a special cap on each person.
③Find 12 young grown-ups and 12 children.
④Ask the people to write by hand and use a keyboard.
A. ②④①③ B. ③②④① C. ③④②① D. ②①④③
38. What is the result of the study?
A. The brain is more active when writing by hand than when using a keyboard.
B. You can remember what you write better if you use a keyboard.
C. Fewer people choose handwriting and more people use a keyboard.
D. It is easier to put your brain in a learning condition when you use a keyboard.
39. From the passage, we can know that ________.
A. Students who only write by hand from an early age will get better grades in the future.
B. Students should completely use handwriting instead of using keyboards to finish their tasks.
C. Taking regular handwriting exercises will improve students’ learning abilities in the long run.
D. The study findings suggest that the earlier students start using keyboards, the more developed their fine motor skills will be.
40. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. ①/②③④/⑤⑥ B. ①②/③④⑤/⑥
C. ①/②③/④⑤⑥ D. ①②/③④/⑤⑥

Dear classmates,
Our memory plays an important role in our life. If we want to make progress in study, it is necessary to have a good memory. Here are some easy ways to improve it.
First, make a point of exercising your brain. Try new things like learning a new language or playing a new musical instrument—it exercises your brain and keeps your brain active. Second, if you live a healthy life, your memory will work better. Research shows that eating a balanced diet can improve your ability to remember things. What’s more, regular physical exercise and getting enough sleep also help improve your memory. Also, don't be too stressed, because stress makes memory less sharp. Last but not least, when you need to remember something, focus on it and repeat it. That helps a lot.
Let’s try these together! Thank you!

A. Proud. B. Warm. C. Painful. D. Shameful.
32. The writer now hopes scientists will ________.
A. discover her amazing ability
B. help her become a normal person

A. Rote memorization helps remember complex data easily.
B. Many brain parts are activated when telling a story.
C. Our brains prefer rote memorization when learning new words.
D. Storytelling is a new learning method for people to practice.
34. Paragraph 3 is mainly about ________.
A. how to create a story timeline when telling a story
B. why people need to provide a clear order of events
C. how to use storytelling to improve memory performance
D. why describing personal experiences is important when telling stories
35. What does the word “associate” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Communicate. B. Compare. C. Agree. D. Connect.
36. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To explain how storytelling improves our brain function.
B. To discuss why we should link experiences to storytelling.
C. To encourage people to use the storytelling methods for better memory.
D. To tell the differences between rote memorization and storytelling methods.
D
A. ①/②③④/⑤⑥ B. ①②/③④⑤/⑥
C. ①/②③/④⑤⑥ D. ①②/③④/⑤⑥
