B When Appa passed away peacefully one morning, part of my priceless inheritance(遗产) from him is a box of yellow pencils. Some barely used, some worn down, but each unfailingly functional, they remind me of his love of solving crossword puzzles. In his 80s, Appa would read the day's newspaper from cover to cover. A few minutes of reading with the sun streaming in through the bay windows. A spark in his mind, and bingo! He’ d get that puzzling word to complete the puzzle. While my father used words for love, I did the same for a living. In my own mind, it did not matter how much I got paid for writing. I wrote because I loved it, often for or about non-profits —— that is until recently. “You were paid peanuts!” said some of my younger, more worldly-wise friends. Unlike me, they found the best places to publish their work and the best editors to work with. But their words didn't affect me. However, when an editor surprised me with a lower rate of pay for a piece they chose to publish online rather than in print, as was originally proposed, I was shocked... and hurt! But like my father, I saw the bright side —— so many people read the piece and loved it, sharing joyful emotions and praise on social media. It did wonders for my confidence. Today, when doubts cloud my mind, I think of Appa's sharpened pencil. Its purpose may have been to solve a crossword. A crossword is complete —— and gives one joy — with only so many words, and only when each word rests on elements from the others. Couldn't my words hold a duality (双重性) that completes my purpose too? And so, now I take up assignments, some that pay well, some that don't, but together, and most importantly, they fill me with joy. After all, it is only our heartfelt passion that matters. 24. Why did the author mention his father in the passage? A. To express the author's love for his father. B. To emphasize his father's influence on him. C. To introduce his father's passion for the puzzles. D. To indicate his father's supporting his career as a writer. 25. What does the underlined sentence“You were paid peanuts” mean in paragraph 4? A. You were paid in cash. B. You were paid lots of money. C. You were paid very little money. D. You were paid with valuable items. 26. What made the author feel hurt? A. The editor refused to publish his article. B. His article was published in print as proposed. C. His article was published online with lower pay. D. The editor reduced the payment due to budget cuts. 27. What can we learn from this passage? A. Like father, like son. B. Follow your own path, and let others talk. C. What is done with passion is done well. D. Love what you do and do what you love. C Have you ever wondered why certain songs or paintings feel deeply satisfying? Language expert Jay Keyser's research finds that repetition makes art speak to us. Artists like jazz musician Duke Ellington and painter Andy Warhol purposefully use repetition—— not simply as copying, but as a clever“same, but different” skill. In Ellington's Satin Doll, for example, the rhythm repeats while the notes stay high or low, and the song's words mirror this pattern. Warhol's soup cans appear alike at first sight, yet each design changes a little. This skill—— called“same/ except” by JayKeyser in his book Play it again, Sam—— makes art feel richer and more pleasant to our brains. Interestingly, discovering repetition brings much more. Consider a photograph of the US city ofAlbuquerque that is often discussed for its meaning. Look closer, and you may find that a dog sits in the center with a street sign shadow to its right copying its shape. Recognizing this hidden pattern, as Keyser suggests, repays us with unexpected pleasure and more. Training our eyes to notice such patterns ——whether in poetry, paintings or songs—— unlocks new meaning. Why does repetition create such a connection? According to Keyser, science offers an answer: the mere exposure effect (单纯曝光效应). Just as a baby grows fond of a mother's face through repeated sights, we naturally develop a liking for familiar patterns. Advertisers use this by repeating product names to build trust. Artists harness it too—— Warhol's repeated cans or a song's repeated catchy parts make us feel comforted and connected. Keyser shows great art works with the brain's makeup. When artists repeat certain parts with changes, the art is in line with how our minds seek order, expect patterns, and gain joy from“finding” connections——though we are not aware of it. By studying how artists skillfully apply the“same/ except” skill across mediums, and by connecting these choices with science, we gain the key to admiring creativity's universal magic. This makes everyday experiences with music, paintings, and words much richer. 28. What does the“same/ except” skill focus on? A. Non-traditional artistic styles. B. Combining different art forms. C. Repetition with slight variations. D. Breaking all patterns completely. 29. What does the example of the Albuquerque photo highlight? A. Fun designs attract more attention. B. Admiring street art lifts one's spirits. C. Repetition enriches art experiences. D. Famous art deserves lasting discussion. 30. What does the underlined word“harness” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Take advantage of. B. Turn down. C. Have control of. D. Make out. 31. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us? A. Art sometimes matches our mindset. B. Science explains artistic techniques. C. Artists use repetition unconsciously. D. Creativity is the key to admiring art. D A new era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the“mobile” phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted (植入) in us? Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called TQ, or technology quotient. It's like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great- grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you' re awesome at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet. The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parent it might be a home-schooling video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting. And for the clinician, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ attempts to quantify our ability to make sensible use of current technologies and to quickly adapt to, embrace and capitalize on future creations. This adoption is critical from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the dynamics of AI and search are changing for just about everyone. Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in projecting the potential for a child's success. But what about technology? The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and adopt technology will be a defining aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smart phones to social media. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to incorporate (吸收) technology too.And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it. While this shift brings challenges, it's unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ,reshaping how we live, work, and learn—— turning adaptability with tech into a measurable edge. 32. What is TQ according to the passage? A. Speed of learning new languages. B. Skill of fixing high- tech products. C. Talent for following modern changes. D. Ability to apply new technologies. 33. Which of the following people has a high TQ? A. A manager who often uses modern search engines. B. A doctor who analyzes CT scans with AI assistance. C. A grandparent who finds new tech devices awkward. D. A mom who watches videos of her child's school life. 34. What's the writer's attitude towards TQ? A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Doubtful. D. Contradictory. 35. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ? B. How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era? C. What Makes TQ the New Intelligence? D. Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 “Is the glass half empty or half full?” This oldEnglish saying has long been used to differentiate a pessimist from an optimist. For most young people today, the answer is usually“half full”, because we have been taught that a positive attitude towards life is one of the primary keys to success.36 Recent studies indicate that it all depends. There is such a thing as too much positivity, also known as toxic positivity. It happens when someone remains in a happy and positive state and ignores any bad and negative emotions across all situations.37 The death of a pet, a low score on a test, or a mountain of new homework should lead to emotions such as sadness, frustration and anger. If we hide these emotions just because we want to look optimistic in front of our friends and family, they can build up inside of us and end up erupting in unexpected ways.38 39 Imagine having had a bad day, and wanting to talk about it with your friend. However, instead of listening to your problems and sympathizing with you, they simply told you to“be positive” and to“look on the bright side.” By saying such things, they give you the impression that your problems are being completely ignored. Moreover, since you don't have the right“attitude,” your problems are ultimately your own fault. That being said, nobody likes to be around depressed people. Just take everything as it comes and express how you really feel.40 Given everything I have already said, my simple advice to you is to do that which gives you the best“attitude” in life, whatever for you that might be. Regardless of whether a glass is half-empty or half-full, it nonetheless still has space to fill. A. However, is being negative necessarily a bad thing? B. This makes you human, and your true friends will stick by you. C. But actually, it is normal for us to experience various emotions in a day. D. This is why I would want to write about staying positive in difficult times. E. Evidence suggests overly positive people are at higher risk of psychological problems. F. Besides personal emotional impacts, toxic positivity can negatively affect people around you. G. But with everything going on, it might feel to you like a continuous struggle to remain positive. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 We’ve all had a wrong number text before, but how often do they lead to years-long friendships? We' ve come to say goodbye. “Bye, sailboats,” Mom says. My little brother, Ben, waves his fist. “Goodbye, harbor,” Dad says.I remember clouds of seagulls (海鸥) following the fishing boats, hoping to snap up shellfish tossed overboard. “Any last farewells, Marissa?” Dad asks me. I bite my lower lip. Goodbye, home. When Mom and Dad announced we were moving, Dad said we were going“home.” He meant out west, where Grandma and Grandpa raised him along with lots of chickens and cattle. “The desert is beautiful in its own way,” Dad said. I tried to smile. But I knew mountains would only stand between me and the rosy sun rising over the ocean. “We' ll find new things to love,” Mom promised. But I knew I'd never love anything as much as waking up to the sound of a seagull's cry. After five days of driving across rolling prairie, we see mountaintops on the horizon. On the sixth day,we pull into Grandpa's dusty driveway. I sigh. Now this is our house, until Mom and Dad can find a new one to buy. I take the attic (阁楼) bedroom with pink wallpaper covering the ceiling. The night before I go to school, I pull my notebook out from under the bed. I' ve started a list of Old Things I Miss: the salt scent instead of the farm stink, seagulls instead of chickens, friends to play with instead of only Ben. I flip the page over, where I' ve started another list: New Things I Love. It's still blank. That night I dream of seagulls calling, their cries rising and falling with the wind. They sail across the sky, following the fishing boats. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式作答。 The next morning, I open my eyes to the ceiling, but I still hear seagulls. Dad tells me that these desert seagulls came here 150 years ago. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 英语答案 第一部分 听力 1——5 BCBAB 6——10 ACCCA 11——15 BCCAB 16——20 ACAAB 附:听力参考材料 Text 1 W: I tried some of Lara's recipes myself, (1) but they just don't seem to turn out right. Not only is table tennis fun but it is also highly beneficial —— it improves hand-eye coordination, boosts reactions, and enhances concentration. It's a great way for students to exercise and stay healthy without requiring too much physical strain. What's more, it is quite feasible to organize the sport. Our school already has several ping-pong tables available, and the sport is suitable for students at all skill levels. Since many students have shown interest, setting up matches or casual play sessions will be both easy and engaging. Let's make table tennis part of our sports festival —— it's fun, healthy, and inclusive! 第二节 The next morning, I open my eyes to the ceiling, but I still hear seagulls. I rub my eyes, sit up and listen. Bird calls drift over the fields. Filled with curiosity, Icreep down the stairs onto the back porch and squint toward the sky. To my amazement, a silver cloud of wings wheels above the freshly turned soil. I can't believe my eyes. “Seagulls!” I gulp. But how can that be? Thrilled yet confused, Ihurry to Dad, who is already working on the farm. “They are desert gulls,” Dad says with a grin. Dad tells me that these desert seagulls came here 150 years ago. They don't seem to mind that they don't belong here. I close my eyes and listen to the gulls who have lived here forever. This place doesn't feel like home. But I feel a piece of home sneaking up on me anyway. I have something new to put on the list of NewThings I Love. Maybe seagulls aren't new,but desert gulls are new to me. I wonder if a sea girl can learn to be happy here, too.Maybe someday Mom, Dad, Ben, and Iwill be watching the rosy sunrise and I' ll hear a gull shriek. I' ll say, “Reminds you of home, doesn't it?” And it won't matter which home I mean. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
