1. —In my opinion, not all inventions were invented by ________ accident.
—Well, you do seem to have ________ point.Inventing needs much time and hard work.
A. an;a B. an;the C. /;a D. /;the
如an hour; an honest boy; a useful book。
2. We should try our best to avoid _______ the same mistakes.
A. make B. to make C. making D. made
A. make动词原形;B. to make动词不定式;C. making分词或动名词;D. made动词过去式。avoid doing sth.
3. My grandma ________ us stories when I was young.
A. was used to tell B. is used to telling C. used to tell D. used to telling
be used to do sth被用来做某事;be used to doing sth习惯于做某事;used to do sth过去常常做某事。根据“when I was young”可知,此处表示过去的事,故选C。
4. Mike_________out the quilt on the grass and _______down to have a rest.
A. lay,laid B. laid,lay C. laid,laid D. lay,lay
5. Great changes __________ in our school in the past few years.
A. have taken place B. took place
C. take place D. will take place
【答案】A

—He asked me ________.
A. how did I get to Lu’an. B. why I liked Lu’an so much.
C. how many schools are there in Lu’an. D. what will I study in West Anhui University.
how did I get to Lu’an我怎样到达六安,疑问语序;why I liked Lu’an so much我为什么如此喜欢六安,陈述语序;how many schools are there in Lu’an六安有多少所学校,疑问语序;what will I study in West Anhui University我将会在皖西学院学习什么,疑问语序。
7. --Will you go to the party tomorrow, Jim?
--I won’t unless I______
A. invited B. invite C. will be invited D. am invited
8. Not only Jim but also Lucy ____________ a few cities since they came to China.
A. will visit B. visited C. have visited D. has visited

will visit一般将来时;visited一般过去时;have visited现在完成时;has visited现在完成时,has是have的第三人称单数形式。根据句中“…since they came to China”可知,这里表示从过去持续到现在的动作,应用现在完成时态,排除A和B。主语是Not only Jim but also Lucy,谓语动词应根据就近原则,与Lucy一致,助动词用has。故选D。
9. This salad is made ________ fruits and it ________.
A. of; smells well B. from; is smelled well
C. from; is smelled good D. of; smells good

be made of由……制成,能看出材料;be made from由……
10. —Could you tell me how to pay for the food by QR code (二维码) on the phone?
— .
A. Take it easy B. It doesn’t matter C. With pleasure D. You' re welcome
【答案】C

A. Take it easy别紧张;B. It doesn’t matter没关系,用于sorry的答语;C. With pleasure愿意效劳;D. You' re welcome不用谢,用于thank you 的答语。

One kind man could see we were in difficulty and came up to us. We tried to explain what we were looking for, and he said, “Oh, yes, yes.” He led us down all these little streets. It seemed like we walked for miles. Finally, he pointed us to a building without any name on it. But when we went in, we found it was not a post office.
When we walked out and were again standing around looking lost, a woman soon came up and asked if we needed help. Again we tried to explained where we were going. The woman said she could help us. Then we followed her to another building which also had no name and we found it was not a post office, either.
At this point we decided not to listen to anybody else.
But then another person came up and said, “I can help you.” We said, “No, thank you.” But he didn’t listen to us. He actually caught me by the hand and pulled me through the streets.
Circling around, we came back to the first corner we had been standing on when we began. He pointed across the street, and there was the post office.

Long ago, there lived a beaver (海狸) named Ray. Ray was quite proud of his nice thick tail and he spent a lot of time brushing it. “I have a great tail.” Ray said. “It is the best tail that an animal can have!”
One fine day in April, Ray went out. “It is a nice day to cut wood,” he said. So Ray got his tools. He cut a big tree eight times. Suddenly, the big tree fell down on top of Ray’s tail! Ray felt pain on his tail. He was very tired when he pulled it out.
“My tail is flat (平的)!” Ray cried. The sun looked down at him and encouraged him, “A flat tail will help you swim faster and can also do something helpful. Just slap (拍打) it on the water,” That made Ray happy.
Then Ray slapped his tail on the water. His friends came running, looking worried, and they didn’t know how to cross the river. “Maybe I can give you a ride,” said Ray. “Jump onto my tail. I will use my tail to carry you across the river.” And Ray swam happily as fast as fish swam!

Kindness is not always a straight line. I was traveling in a city of Central America with a friend, and we were looking for a post office, we were standing on a street corner and did not know what the Spanish word for “post office” was.

The Huaping Senior High School for Girls in Lijiang, Yunnan is famous not only because lots of students there go to universities, but also because it is the first girls’ public high school that doesn’t charge students any money in our country—it’s free to everyone in it.
Nothing would have happened without Zhang Guimei, head teacher of Huaping Senior High School for Girls. The 64-year-old woman has been fighting against the unfair things girls face in the mountains for a long time.
In 2001, Zhang noticed that many girls from poor families had few chances of getting education. Then the idea of starting a free school for girls came into her mind. To raise money, between 2002 and 2007, Zhang spent the summer and winter vacations on the streets asking people to give away money to her school. However, she only collected about 10,000 yuan.
Later, a reporter reported her story. At last, she got one million yuan from the government, and the Huaping Senior High School for Girls was opened in September, 2008.
There were many difficulties at first, but Zhang Guimei didn’t give up. “I want my students to go to good universities.” she said. So far, over 1,600 girls have left school and got higher education at universities. These came at the cost of Zhang’s health.
When asked why she tried to help those in the mountains, Zhang said, “Education for women can influence three generations (代).”
