Though he was only a farmer at the time, he had the experience of learning at a local medical school in Jiujiang. With the knowledge, he was able to save about 300 of them.
It made Li love protecting birds. In 2012, he bought an old house for 30,000 yuan and spent about 100,000 yuan on renovations (翻新). Then he made it into a help center for migratory birds.

Whether performed in the park or the comfort of one’s home, you can do Baduanjin easily.
There are a total of eight movements in Baduanjin, and each is special. The Eight Pieces of Brocade has been passed on through the centuries as eight short, simple sentences. Let’s go through them one by one.

The days grow shorter, the leaves turn yellower, and the weather gets cooler. ____53____ Or is it fall? Have you ever wondered why there are two names for this season?
Historical records show that there actually wasn’t any fall. ____54____ The first season was winter. The name “winter” came from an unknown root word (词根) meaning “wet”. And it was used over fifteen hundred years ago.

Both “autumn” and “fall” travelled across the Atlantic (大西洋) to America. ____57____ “Fall”, as in the season, was not even entered into the English dictionary until 1755. But today, “autumn” is more commonly used in British English, while “fall” is generally preferred in American English.

More than 1,000 videos about young Chinese people doing a traditional fitness sport, Baduanjin can be found on Bilibili, a social media platform in China. A video about teaching the public to do the exercise has got more than 10 million views and over 6,000 comments. Most of them were from college students and young people who paid great attention to health care.
Baduanjin, also known as Eight Pieces of Brocade, doesn’t need much space or time and is usually played with slow and quiet music. It uses special breathing skills to improve both physical and mental health. Now let’s take a closer look at this Chinese exercise that has been helping people stay healthy for centuries.
Baduanjin started as early as the Northern Song Dynasty. It has a history of more than 800 years. In the beginning, it was developed as a way to improve the physical health of soldiers (士兵). Over time, it developed into a comprehensive (全面的) system of exercises practiced by both martial artists (武术家) and common people.
Baduanjin is one of the most ancient forms of Chinese qigong (a system of deep-breathing exercises). This qigong style centers on breathing—by taking slow, deep breaths. It helps relax our body and calms the mind. The practice of Baduanjin is believed to bring lots of benefits to health, such as improving physical fitness, improving sleep, improving mental state and reducing stress. The great advantage of Baduanjin lies in its accessibility (可达性). People of all ages and fitness levels can practice it without any special tools or experience.
