We were staying at a research camp outside “ the polar bear capital of the world ” — the town of Churchill in Manitoba, Canada. Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous. Polar bears — like all wild animals — should be photographed from a safe distance. When I’m face to face with a polar bear, I like it to be through a camera with a telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times. As Elli and I cooked dinner, a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our garlic bread. The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the wire. He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts. Terrified, Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew. We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank shotgun shells into the air. Sometimes loud noises like these will scare bears off. Not this polar bear though — he just kept trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws (爪子). I radioed the camp manager for help. He told me a helicopter was on its way, but it would be 30 minutes before it arrived. Making the best of this close encounter (相遇), I took some pictures of the bear. Elli and I feared the fence wouldn’t last through 30 more minutes of the bear’s punishment. The camp manager suggested I use pepper spray. The spray burns the bears’ eyes, but doesn’t hurt them. So I approached our uninvited guest slowly and, through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar (吼叫), the bear ran to the lake to wash his eyes. Para 1: A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. ___________________ Para 2: At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. It was a fine summer morning, perfect to be outdoors. Two sisters had been out mushroom picking, and were on their way home with heavy baskets full of mushrooms. They sang songs on the way, and played with each other. Soon they reached a point where they had to cross a railway track. They did not think twice about crossing it since there was no train coming, and they could not hear any whistle. They slowly climbed the steep railway embankment, taking care not to drop the baskets. They were very near the track and the little sister Mary was about to cross it first when a train whistled in the distance. Hearing the train coming, Rose the elder sister quickly ran down. She thought that the young one was following her. But as she turned back, she was shocked to see her little sister still up there crossing the track. “Come back here! Run back fast!” she shouted. Mary seemed not to hear the whistle nor her sister’s cry as she was concentrating on stepping over the track with her little feet, and holding on to the basket. Then she tripped and fell on the track, scattering her mushrooms around. The engine driver panicked on seeing a girl between the tracks who was on her hands and knees and he blew the horn with all his strength. Poor Mary, who was frightened by the coming danger, froze and didn’t know what to do. When Rose saw the scene, she screamed at the top of her voice for Mary’s attention. Mary noticed that her sister was not around and cried for help. With the train drawing near, the engine driver grew extremely anxious. As hard as he could, he kept blowing the whistle and started reducing speed. Yet it was not possible for him to stop the heavy train within such a short distance. Rose wouldn’t watch the tragedy happen before her eyes. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The train rolled over and finally stopped. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing02 It was last February. Noel, a 28-year-old marketing manager was heading from Iceland’s Keflavik International Airport to the capital city Reykjavik with the modern traveler’s two essentials: a dream and a GPSunit. What could go wrong? The dream had been with him since April 14, 2010 when he watched TV news report of the volcano eruption in Iceland. Dark-haired, with a youthful face and thick eyebrows, he had never travelled beyond the United States and his native Mexico. “I want to see this through my own eyes,” he thought as he watched the news on his couch. Four months later, on a cold winter morning, he was driving from Keflavik Airport in a rented car towards a hotel in Reykjavik, excited that his one-week journey was beginning. As the pink sun rose over the ocean and shone light on the snow-covered lava rocks along the shore, he dutifully followed the commands of the GPS that came with the car, a calm female voice directing him to an address—a left here, a right there. But after stopping on a deserted road, he got a feeling that the voice might be steering (引导) him wrong. He had been driving for nearly an hour, yet the GPS put his arrival time at around eight hours later. He entered his destination again and got the same result. Though he sensed that something was off, he made a choice to trust the machine. The farther he drove, the fewer cars he saw. The roads became icier. He was sleepy, cold and hungry. He hadn’t set up his phone for international use, so that was no help. Another three hours passed. As his tires skidded (打滑) along a narrow mountain road that skirted a steep cliff.he knew that the device had failed him. He was lost. He didn’t know where else to go. There was no one else on the road, and there was nothing else to do but follow the line on the screen to its mysterious end. Paragraph 1 The directions ended at a small blue house in a tiny town. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Knowing what had happened, the woman offered to help him. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing03 I was finally going to see Giant Rock with my brothers and Dad. I’d been snowshoeing before, and I liked the adventure of hiking through deep snow alongside wild-animal tracks. After putting on our snowshoes, we studied the map. Dad said, “We start here on the red trail, and then we turn left onto the purple one. That’s where Giant Rock is. Remember to stick together, guys!” The trail ran uphill alongside a stone wall. It was easy to follow because red markers were nailed to the trees and the snow had been packed down by other hikers. Half way up the hill, we turned onto the winding purple trail. We settled into a rhythm, with Dad and everyone else in front and me in the back, crunch-crunching through the snow. The late afternoon sun felt warm, although it was already sinking lower. I saw lots of animal tracks-mostly deer, squirrel, and rabbit prints, which I recognized from my field guide. An hour later, we topped the hill and saw the massive rock sitting alone in the forest. “It is really huge, as big as a house!” my brother Josh said, gazing up. Breathlessly standing in the rock’s giant shadow, I noticed the sun had dipped even lower. “Let’s head back,” Dad said. I was a little behind the group when I noticed a set of animal tracks I didn’t recognize. They were hard to see among the snowshoe prints, so I followed them off the trail for a closer look. There were no claw marks, which meant they didn’t belong to a dog or a fox. Instead, they looked like tiny handprints and footprints. “Must be a raccoon (浣熊),” I thought, matching them to prints in my guide. I looked up when I suddenly realized how quiet it had gotten. I was totally alone. “Hey!” I shouted. “Where is everyone?” nothing. Just the sound of my own breathing. “They couldn’t have gone far. I’ll catch up to them if I hurry,” I thought, stepping back onto the trail. The light had grown darker by the second. Without flashlight and phone, I began running. I came to where I could turn right or go straight. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Stop and think,” I told myself, picturing the map again. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing04 One day, my brother and I were coming back from the islands where we often risked going and got more fish than others. All at once, the sky was covered with dark clouds and in less than a minute we were in a terrible storm. A huge wave covered our boat and we nearly fell into the sea. My brother put his mouth close to my ear and cried out “Moskoe-strom!” The moment I heard the word I became very frightened. I knew what he meant by that one word well enough. With the wind and waves, we were going in the direction of the whirlpool (漩涡). We were hopeless. Nothing could save us. I felt sick, as if I was falling from a mountain top in a dream. We went round and round, nearer and nearer to the horrible edge of the whirlpool. It may appear strange, but at that moment, when we were on the edge of the whirlpool, I felt calmer than when we were moving towards it. I began to think how amazing a thing it was to die in such a way, and how wonderful it was to see the power of nature. Suddenly, we went over the edge. I thought my life was over. But moment after moment passed, and I was still safe. The boat was on the inside of the huge whirlpool and we were going round in circles at great speed. I saw clearly that there were other objects in the whirlpool—trees and barrels (水桶). After a while, I became curious about the whirlpool itself. I then made three important observations. The first, the larger the bodies were, the more rapidly they fell; the second, between two objects of equal extent, round objects fell down less rapidly; and the third, between two objects of the same size, objects shaped like a tube fell down more slowly. So I tied myself to a barrel to help me float. I tried to make my brother understand, but he was too frightened and stayed in the boat. Without waiting, I jumped into the sea to try and escape. Paragraph 1: Some time after I left the boat, I saw my brother struggling in the sea. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Soon after that, the whirlpool became less wild and then the sky was clear. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing05 It was an unusually hot day. Exhausted after football practice, I headed for the bus stop to wait for Bus 112 which would take me home. I was beginning to drift off to sleep when I saw the bus arriving. The sun was in my eyes and that was probably the reason why I got onto Bus 113 I was glad to get a seat. Within minutes, I was sting against the window, fast asleep. When I opened my eyes, it was dark outside. I was the only passenger left on the bus. I could not recognize the part of town we were passing through. I pressed the bell and the bus stopped. I planned to hop across the road and catch a bus going the opposite direction. However, I found myself on a quiet street with a row of shops that were all closed. I kicked myself for not asking the driver for directions. As I was wondering what to do, a motorcycle came down the road. The rider looked at me as he passed and then stopped a short distance away. I went to him and asked him how to get back to the City Square. He smiled and nodded. He patted the back seat and said that he would send me home. Without a second thought, I climbed up behind the rider. He turned the motorcycle around and headed in the direction I wanted. We travelled for about 15 minutes and the surroundings still looked unfamiliar to me. The rider made a few turns and I knew I was hopelessly lost. I asked him where we were going, He did not answer but increased his speed. Alarm bells started to ring in my head. I tapped the man, shoulder and told him to stop. He leaned forward and went at high speed now. Then he slowed down to turn into a dark and narrow road that led into an oil palm plantation. I had had enough. I jumped off the vehicle and fell onto the ground. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I got off the taxi and rushed into my house. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing06 It’s a beautiful sunny day. The Bonds boarded their boat for a carefree day trip to Dove Island for some fishing as a family custom. Thomas Bond, a 30-year-old construction worker, loved the sport, especially catching bass (鲈鱼) and had impressed on his oldest daughter, Lizzy, a love of the outdoors, teaching her how to bait (下诱饵) a hook and cast a line and brave the waves. The family spent the day fishing in the vast ocean, and then left the island in the early evening. Upon setting off from the shore, they found thick fog rolling in. Lizzy fell into a light sleep beside her five-year-old sister, Molly, at a table on the boat’s lower deck (甲板). Their father’s sharp orders woke her up: “Get out of the boat. The boat’s sinking!” Lizzy pushed her sister into the cold, dark water. Both girls wore life jackets. The adults did not. The girls were followed by their mother, Petra Bond, who was expecting a baby at that time. Within seconds, the boat was damaged and was left just the tip of its bow in the air. Looking into the faces of her father, mother, and sister, Lizzy wasn’t frightened. After some time, her father told them he would swim for help. “I’ll be back,” he said before disappearing into the darkness. “Dad is like the superhero to me. I believe he will get help to rescue us,” Lizzy said to herself. After some time, her mother became quiet and stopped swimming. Lizzy wrapped a rope around her mother’s chest and tied her to the boat so she wouldn’t float away. Then her sister fell quiet too and she stayed beside her. To keep herself awake, Lizzy daydreamed about what they would do after they were rescued. They would stay in a hotel, order room service, and lie comfortably under the blankets in bed, cozy and warm. After several hours, Lizzy heard her name called in the distance. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the coast, an ambulance was waiting for them. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 五、模拟题演练02 Writing 01 When I was in the eighth grade, I became interested in mountain climbing. Then I climbed my first mountain— a fairly gentle 3,900-foot peak near where I live in surrey, British Columbia. I loved the challenge of conquering something bigger than myself. I like climbing more and more. Soon I’d climbed nearly l00 peaks. My parents were happy I’d finally found a hobby. Two years ago, on December 30, when I was 16, I drove to Oregon to climb 11,240-foot Mount Hood with my friend Mel Olsen. It’s safer to start winter climbs at night when there’s less risk of the sun melting the snowpack (积雪). That day, we started at 3 a.m. The temperature was about 14 degrees. Along the way, we met two other climbers, and the four of us continued on together. After about five hours, we reached Devil’s Kitchen, a plateau at about l0,000 feet. By this point, the wind conditions were nasty My exposed skin felt as though it were burning. The trail we followed grew narrower and steeper. At around 9 a.m. , we reached an ice step. I volunteered to go first. I placed my left foot on it. Confident I was safe, I put my full weight on it. Suddenly, I heard a loud noise, and a whole slab of ice broke off the step, right under my foot. In an instant, I fell backward, rolling down the mountain as if I were a character in a video game. After a few seconds, I came to a stop on a shallow slope just above the Devil’s Kitchen. I’d fallen 600 feet. My clothes were torn into small pieces, my helmet was broken, and my face was bloodied from cuts and scratches. Fortunately, for the most part, I was fine, except that I was suffering from a sharp, great pain in my left leg. I yelled for help. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This accident made me have a deep reflection, but I was back climbing again. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing 02 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文,续写词数应为150左右。 Malachi Bradley doesn’t show signs of being panicked or worried when he talks about how he spent 29 hours lost in a rough area of the High Uintas. “I didn’t really feel scared. I was just trying to get back to my family,” the 10-year-old said Tuesday in a quiet, almost matter-of-fact way just one day after he was rescued. When asked what happened to him, he simply replied: “A lot of things. I hiked a long way.” Malachi confidently believes he could have survived two or three weeks on his own, dressed in only his jeans and his shoes, and with no food, tent or blankets. But the look in the eyes of Malachi’s father, Danny Bradley, told a different story, one of much deeper concern, when he realized his son was missing. “It’s a horrible feeling, just knowing how vast the Uinta Mountains are,” he said, “I quickly felt how severe the situation was.” Malachi recalled his great adventure Tuesday. He showed no signs of going without food for a day or sleeping between rocks for an hour at night to block the cold wind. But he admitted when he got home to his own bed on Monday night that he was asleep within a minute of his head hitting his pillow and stayed there for 12 hours. His adventure began Sunday when Malachi, his father, two siblings(兄弟姐妹), and a family friend were about to leave their campsite near Paul Lake to go home. “We were just going to cook up a fish he caught and head out, and,” Danny Bradley paused, “it ended up being a lot longer.” Malachi said he went to look for mushrooms about 10:30 a.m. He had just walked a long way when he encountered a snake. He was so frightened that he decided to get back but he could no longer see the lake where his campsite was set up. He knew he was lost. Malachi didn’t have his whistle with him that he normally carries in case he gets lost when exploring. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ But on Monday afternoon, Malachi took off his shoes to take a break in an open area and heard another helicopter nearby. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing 03 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。 Brady was a recently retired search and rescue dog. He was not happy and missed his owner Al because Al had gone out on a rescue mission without him. Al’s nephew Steve took Brady along when he and his friend Zach went on a overnight hike. But suddenly Steve and Zach smelled something burning and they realized that lightning had set the woods on fire. Wind-blown flame had leaped from the top of one tree to another. The long dry summer had turned the forest into a tinderbox(火绒箱) and the thunderstorm wasn’t helping much. It had more wind and lightning than rain. Zach pulled Steve’s arm. “Let’s go! We can make it back to the river we crossed today.” Steve pulled Brady’s leash(皮带) and their heads down against the strong fire-wind, they hurried down the path they had followed earlier. The air was full of smoke, and pine branches broke from burning trees with a crisp sound. Steve kept his eyes on the route. All they had to do was to make it down to the river… Brady barked a sharp warning. Ahead of them lay a dense curtain of smoke across the path. They’d never make it through that. They would have to find another escape route. The dog was pulling at his leash trying to draw them away from the smoke. This was what Brady was trained to do, and yet Steve was uneasy. It seemed to him they were moving away from the river. Brady lifted his head and smelled the smoky wind. Suddenly, the dog ran away and disappeared. The boys yelled and shouted for him,but he didn’t come back. They had no choice but to leave him behind. Heartsick, Steve and Zach went up aslope(斜坡). He couldn’t blame Brady for panicking and escaping. He himself wanted to run even though he didn’t have a clue which way. They hadn’t gone far when there was a familiar bark, and Brady came running toward him. Paragraph1: “Where’ve you been?” Steve cried. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Brady led them back down the slope and into the trees. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing 04 阅读下而材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 The Biggest Dog on the Mountain We liked hiking together. Today, we were looking for a trail over Wallace Mountain. ”It’s been over an hour,” said Jessc, my nineteen-year-old son. “Do you think the trail still exists?” We had explored several paths but with no luck. We pushed through weeds mid-calf high for us, but neck-high for our rusty-brown dog, Shadow. Once in a while, we would call Shadow back when she was attracted by the pleasant smell of flowers. No longer slim and bouncing with energy, Shadow was the size of a large house cat, and always content to curl up on the couch beside one of us. Suddenly, we heard what sounded like many dogs barking in the distance, an unusual sound in the wilderness around us. Curious, we climbed the ridge (山脉), only to find what seemed like a dog factory. Small dogs, big dogs, brown dogs, and dogs I can’t even describe poured out. The hounds (猎狗) hit the ground, sniffing the air and turning to face us. Before long, they went down from their side of the mountain. Jesse shot an alarmed glance at me before turning to call in a firm voice, “Shadow, come here, stay.” I patted my pockets, feeling for the pepper spray (防狼喷雾), so small it would never work against so many animals. I turned, surveying the nearby brush for a potential weapon. With the help of adrenaline (肾上腺素), I broke off two thick branches from a tree and rushed to Jesse’s side, “Here you are!” “OK,” he said, “Dad, they are coming to us.” My-mouth went dry. I glanced over at Jesse, his lips pinched (夹紧) tight. The pack emerged from the valley, marching straight toward us. The dogs in the lead were now close enough for us to see that most of them were three times larger than Shadow. With deep growls (怒吼声),they ran straight for us. Jesse swallowed hard and looked at me. Shadow’s back fur rose. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Surprisingly, the entire mass of dogs turned tail and fled. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing 05 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 My husband, Donald, took our daughter Sarah out for some ice cream the night before driving her to college. As they were walking back to the car, they saw a young man sitting on the ground and giving his puppy a cone. “A cute dog,” Donald said as they walked by. “A free dog,” the young man replied. Donald asked him what he meant by that and the man explained. He was moving away from Vermont and did not think the travel would be good for the dog. He had raised her from a small puppy. The man said she was a 6-month-old cross between the Doberman and the Labrador named Rhubarb. Donald took his phone number. The rest, as they say, is history. Rhubarb was a sweet dog and very friendly and loved everyone. Whenever someone came to the house, she was always happy. She also got along with Willie, an older Samoyed we had. Willie was not well and died about a year later, but, fortunately, Rhubarb’s company helped him keep going for longer than that if he had been alone. But the interesting thing about Rhubarb was that she never barked. She would sometimes get excited when she saw a chipmunk (花栗鼠) and make a little crying sound. One hot night when she was about 4 years old, we went to bed with the windows open and the doors unlocked. At about 3 a.m., I woke up to the sound of Rhubarb barking. I woke Donald and we got out of bed. Rhubarb was coming toward us. We turned on the lights and noticed the door to the kitchen was open. Then we saw the door leading into the house from the garage was also open. We quickly locked all the doors, and we did not get any sleep that night. It was deep into the night, so we didn’t call the police. Paragraph 1: The next day we noticed there was cigarette ash on the floor. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: My purse was right next to the door. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Writing06   阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。 Lightning flashed through the darkness over Sibson’s bedroom skylight(天窗). Sibson was shaken by a clap of thunder before he knew what was happening. The storm had moved directly through his twostory wooden house. Then he heard the smoke alarm beeping. Sibson rushed down the stairs barefoot to check. He opened the door to the basement, and flames exploded out. Sibson ran back upstairs to call 911 from his bedroom. “I felt glad because the room had a separate outdoor stairway,” he explained to the media later. But the phone didn’t work, and when he tried to go down the outdoor stairway, he was stopped by a wall of flames. Sibson realized he was trapped. Suddenly, a piece of wood fell from the roof. Sharp pain raced through his body as he looked down and found his leg bleeding. Sibson’s house was three kilometers off the main road and was so well hidden by trees that he knew calling for help would be fruitless. Up a hill nearby lived Sibson’s neighbor, Huggons. He was lying in bed when something like a smoke alarm struck his ears. He jumped out of bed, took his phone and flashlight, and headed down the hillside toward the noise. That was when he saw the rolling heavy smoke. Huggons dialed 911, and the operator warned him not to enter the house. But Huggons said, “There is no way I am going to listen to Sibson scream and die in that fire.” “Anyone there?” Huggons called out. Then he heard “Help! I’m trapped!” coming from the second floor balcony. He entered the house, but soon had to run back to catch his breath. After one more attempt to get inside the house, Huggons gave up and circled around back. The wind parted the smoke just enough for him to catch sight of Sibson. But there was no way to get to him. With the wind fueling the fire, there was no time to waste and the second floor seemed to be falling down in the next minute. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Go! She planned a six-hour hike through New Hampshire’s Mount Washington State Park. The hike up the lower part of Jewell was pleasant. At 8:30 am, still below the tree line, she took the first in a series of on-the-trail selfies. Less than an hour later, she took another photo, after she’d climbed into colder air and deeper snows. She made her way across the snow-covered ridge toward Mount Washington. Then she noticed something: a single set of footprints in the snow ahead of her. She’d been following faint tracks all day and hadn’t given them much thought, because so many people climb Jewell Trail. But these, she realized, had been made by a pair of trainers, not suitable for hiking on snow. By 11 am, Bales was getting cold and decided to abandon her plan. The only thing keeping Bales on Gulfside Trail was the trainer tracks in the sonw. As she fought the wind and heavy sleet (雨夹雪), the tracks made a hard left-hand turn off the trail. Now she alarmed. She was sure the hiker could get through in the ow visibility and was heading straight toward the challenging trails of the Great Gulf Wilderness. Bales stood there, stunned. The temperature and clouds were in a race to find their lowest point, and darkness was mere hours away. She turned to the left and called out, “Hello!” into the frozen fog. Nothing. She called out again: “Is anybody out there? Do you need help?” The strong westerly winds carried her voice away. She blew into her rescue whistle. For a fleeting moment she thought she heard someone reply, but it was just the wind playing games with her mind. She stood listening, then turned and walked cautiously in the direction of the single set of tracks. Bales followed the tracks cautiously for 20 to 30 meters. She rounded a slight corner and saw a man sitting motionless. When she approached him and said hello, he did not react. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After waking the man up, Bales recognized that they had to get out of there soon. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 18 险境求生篇 一、险境求生类常用词汇 中文 英文 中文 英文 被困 trapped 筋疲力尽 exhausted 心提到嗓子眼 heart jump into one's throat 毫不犹豫 without hesitation 吓得僵住 frozen with fear 简要介绍情况 brief on the situation 救援人员 rescue workers 安然无恙 safe and sound 一线希望 glimmer of hope 获救 be saved 感激的泪水 tears of gratitude 浓烟 heavy smoke 呼救 cry for help 湍急的水 rushing water 用尽全身力气 with all one's strength (火势)蔓延 spread (fire) 快不行了(体力不支) give out 电闪雷鸣 flash of lightning and burst of thunder 急救 first aid 扭伤(肢体) twist (leg/arm) 松了一口气 breathe a sigh of relief 流血 bleed 暴风雪 snowstorm 吞噬(物体) swallow 狂风暴雨 violent storm 捷径 short cut 海浪 waves 迷路 get lost 地震 earthquake 温度骤降 sudden drop in temperature 火灾 fire 食物和水耗尽 food and water run out 二、险境求生类常用句型 一、突遭意外:灾害降临与困境初现 1. Tom was shocked to find that the water kept rising. ___________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para 2: At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. _____________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One possible version: Para 1: A few minutes later, the bear headed back to our camp. Then we realized that the spray had only angered him even more, for he seemed much fiercer this time and violently pushed the fence like mad. My heart raced wildly, not knowing what to do. At this critical moment, Elli grabbed several pieces of garlic bread and threw them over the fence. It worked! The bear stopped the attack and ran to the bread. But it wasn’t long before he ate up all the bread and came back again. Para 2: At that very moment, the helicopter arrived. “Thank goodness we are saved!” Elli cried out. Once the helicopter landed, we got onto it in no time, excited and relieved. When we were safe on the helicopter up in the air, I was amazed to spot that the bear had finally torn down the fence and ran towards the food we left behind. I quickly took out the camera and photographed the rare scene — we were robbed by a polar bear! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Para 1: Rose wouldn’t watch the tragedy happen before her eyes. She rushed up the embankment staircase, repeating at the top of her voice “Stay off the tracks!” Mary, at the sight of Rose’s coming to her rescue, burst into tears of joy. Though reducing speed as hard as it could, the train was still approaching fast. Seeing there was little time to drag her sister out of danger, Rose jumped over without a second thought and covered Mary’s body under hers. Para 2: The train rolled over and finally stopped. Frightened and worried, the engine driver quickened his pace to see what happened to the little girl. To his great relief, the sisters lied between the rails safe and sound. What a narrow escape! He helped them sit up and comforted them. The two sisters hugged and kissed each other, tears of joy flowing down their cheeks. Never were the two souls so happily united at that moment. They then collected all the remaining mushrooms and, hand in hand more tightly than before, walked back home. 词汇激活 行为类 ①靠近:approach/get close ②捡起:collect/pick up ③回家:walk back home/get back home 情绪类 ①快乐:joy/happiness ②害怕:frightened/scared 【点睛】 [高分句型1] She rushed up the embankment staircase, repeating at the top of her voice “Stay off the tracks!”(运用了现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] Never were the two souls so happily united at that moment. (运用了全部倒装) Writing02 It was last February. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: The directions ended at a small blue house in a tiny town. Noel parked his car and headed towards the door. An old blue-eyed woman answered after the second ring. She smiled as he stammered about his hotel and handed her his reservation. “No. this isn’t the hotel you have booked. Your hotel is 380 kilometres south.” She told him in accented English with a laugh. Noel quickly figured out what happened the address was wrong with an extra “r” in it. Paragraph 2: Knowing what had happened, the woman offered to help him. She provided Noel a free meal and a bed so that he could get a good night’s sleep. The next day, Noel decided to drive to Reykjavik. In light of his previous experience, the woman gave him a map with the main roads and landmarks carefully marked on it in case the device went wrong again. With the help of the woman’s directions, Noel finally reached his destination. “Without her help, I wouldn’t have made it.” He was so thankful to the woman, who was just a total stranger to him. 词类激活 行为类 ①回答:answer/reply/respond ②递:hand/deliver ③弄清楚,明白:figure out/understand ④决定做某事:decide to do/be determined to do/make up one’s mind to do 情绪类 ①感激的:grateful/thankful 【点睛】 [高分句型1]She smiled as he stammered about his hotel and handed her his reservation. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: I came to where I could turn right or go straight. The path to the front looked familiar. But when I walked on, some scenes told me I was going the wrong way. So I reversed direction. My mind started to race. Soon it might be too dark to tell what color the markers were. And I couldn’t just follow my own footsteps because there were so many tracks from other hikers. What if I couldn’t find my way back? I started tearing through the woods in a panic. Paragraph 2: “Stop and think,” I told myself, picturing the map again. To get to Giant Rock we had turned left onto the purple trail. To get back, I needed to do the opposite and turn right onto the red one. I struggled forward in the faint light. Then I noticed the stone wall. This had to be right. I went downhill in giant steps, and then I saw my family! I shouted as I ran toward them. “Honey? Are you OK?” Dad’s voice was urgent. It seemed I had been lost for ages, and all I wanted now was a bear hug from Dad. 词汇激活 行为类 ①继续前进:walk on/move on ②辨别:tell/distinguish ③大叫:shout/yell 情绪类 ①慌乱地:in a panic/flurriedly ②焦急的:urgent/anxious 【点睛】 [高分句型1] But when I walked on, some scenes told me I was going the wrong way. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】        Some time after I left the boat, I saw my brother struggling in the sea. I tried my best to approach to him but I failed again and again. I waved and called him to tie himself to another barrel to help him float. I struggled to run away from the whirlpool and prayed the storm could stop as soon as possible. Soon after that, the whirlpool became less wild and then the sky was clear. The wind became calmer, and the moon was shining. I was still tied to the barrel and the waves soon carried me to an area where the other fishermen were. Fortunately, a boat picked me up when I was tired out. The fishermen were very old friends, but they were unable to recognize me at first because I was in a so difficult position. To my great excitement, minutes later, another boat arrived with my brother in it. I got off the taxi and rushed into my house. I threw myself into my mum's arms and broke into tears. When my family learned what had happened, they were horrified. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I yelled for help. Hearing my cry for help, Mel made her way down and other climbers came to assist me. A couple of them were trained first aid treatment. They splinted my leg and called rescue team. Mel stayed by my side while I tried not to cry from the pain. I’d been lying on the ice shivering and in agony for four hours by the time the rescuers reached me. They strapped me into a sled and pulled me down the mountain. Then I was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital, where I stayed for four days. This accident made me have a deep reflection, but I was back climbing again. The fall has made me more cautious. One slip on a mountain can change everything. But the experience also made me grow as a person and helped me mature. Since the accident, I’ve climbed another 60 mountains. I’m not going to let one fall and its aftermath keep me from doing my favorite thing in the world. 词汇激活 行为类 ①帮助:assist/aid/help ②颤抖:shiver/tremble/quiver ③阻止某人做某事:keep sb from doing sth/prevent sb from doing sth 情绪类 ①痛苦:agony/pain/suffering ②谨慎的:cautious/careful/prudent 【点睛】[高分句型1]. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Malachi didn’t have his whistle with him that he normally carries in case he gets lost when exploring. He didn’t know what to do but to walk along the road and call out his families while walking. However, nobody answered him. Not knowing how long he had walked for, he suddenly heard a helicopter nearby. He began to shout as loudly as he could so that he could be heard. Unfortunately, the helicopter flied away for it was too dark to see him. Feeling a little bit depressed, he tried his best to follow the helicopter though he lost it very quickly. Not until the sun rose did Malachi realize that he had walked for the whole night, hungry, tired and cold. But on Monday afternoon, Malachi took off his shoes to take a break in an open area and heard another helicopter nearby. He tried to yell for help again with his clothes waving in his hand. To his disappointment, the helicopter began to fly away too. He thought he was about to stay here for another night when the helicopter turned back. 词汇激活 行为类 ①呼救:shout for help / call for help / cry for help ②返回:turn back / come back / fly back 情绪类 ①感到有点沮丧:feel a little bit depressed / feel a little bit frustrated ②令某人失望:to one’s disappointment / to one’s depression 【点睛】【高分句型1】Not until the sun rose did Malachi realize that he had walked for the whole night, hungry, tired and cold. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: “Where’ve you been?” Steve cried. Brady stopped directly in front of him and started pushing him back toward the slope they’d just climbed. When Steve still didn’t get it, Brady grabbed the boy’s jeans and pulled harder. The message was clear, but Steve hesitated. Of course he remembered what his uncle had said about Brady saving his life, but that had been a long time ago. Was he still sharp enough to get them through this? Brady pulled again, urgently. “OK, big guy,” Steve decided. Paragraph 2: Brady led them back down the slope and into the trees. Several times the big dog stopped to get his escape route. Often he changed direction. How long they’d walked Steve had no idea. He just held onto Brady’s leash with one hand and kept putting one foot in front of the other. He was almost numb when he heard the wonderful sound of rushing water. The river! With a yell the boys ran unsteadily forward until they jumped in cool, running water. “Brady, you did it!” Today, we were looking for a trail over Wallace Mountain. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Shadow’s back fur rose. Down came the group of dogs towards us, roaring angrily. Just as one of them approached us, I raised the pepper spray and spray the liquid to it. Luckily it jumped aside. However, more dogs charged at me, which made the pepper spray useless. Just then, Jesse went up bravely and threw the thick branches around us, making it difficult for the dogs to move near. Meanwhile, Shadow shouted at the dogs aggressively in an attempt to scare them away. Surprisingly, the entire mass of dogs turned tail and fled. I was glad to see them disappear. I thanked Jesse for her bravery and I patted Shadow on his back. While he was bigger than those dogs, he was not afraid in face of the mass of dogs. We continued to set off to search for our trail. This time, with Shadow leading the way, we would not get lost and soon we found the right trail. After the adventure, we returned home safe and sound thanks to my brave son and the biggest dog. 词汇激活 行为类 寻找:look for /search/seek 回家:go back home/return home 爬:climb /ascend/mount 情绪类 感谢:thank/show our appreciation/show our gratitude/be grateful 害怕的:afraid /dreadful/horrible 【点睛】[高分句型1] Just as one of them approached us, I raised the pepper spray and spray the liquid to it.(由连接词as引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] However, more dogs charged at me, which made the pepper spray useless.(由关系代词which引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型3] I thanked Jesse for her bravery and I patted Shadow on his back.(由省略that引导的宾语从句) Writing 05 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 My husband, Donald, took our daughter Sarah out for some ice cream the night before driving her to college. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Paragraph 1: The next day we noticed there was cigarette ash on the floor. Actually, it was a thief who entered our kitchen and garage. Much to our relief, thanks to Rhubarb, the thief stole nothing. I called the police to report the break-in. I also told them nothing had been taken, but they sent a police officer over to talk with us anyway. In fact, recently many local homes had been broken in on the weekend. Most people’s wallets and purses had been stolen. Paragraph 2: My purse was right next to the door. However, Rhubarb had scared the thief away before he or she could steal it. When the police officer left, he said we should reward Rhubarb with a big steak dinner. Rhubarb lived to be almost 12 years old, but that night was the only time she barked in her entire life. Fortunately, she never saw the need to warn us of any other danger. We were very thankful to Rhubarb. We loved her like a member of the family. 词汇激活 行为类 ①进入:enter/break into ②打电话:call/ring up/phone ③把……吓跑:scare away/scare off 情绪类 ①感激的:thankful / grateful ②幸运地:fortunately/luckily 【点睛】[高分句型1] Actually, it was a thief who entered our kitchen and garage. Leave me alone!” shouted Sibson with desperate tears in his eyes, “It will kill you, too.” ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 With the wind fueling the fire, there was no time to waste and the second floor seemed to be falling down in the next minute. Sibson was in great pain in the fire, and Huggons struggled to find a solution. He looked around, got a fire extinguisher, and tried to rush onto the balcony again to save Sibson, but the fire was too intense for him to get near. Huggons was anxious as the second floor of the house was about to collapse. “Go! Leave me alone!” shouted Sibson with desperate tears in his eyes, “It will kill you, too.” Huggons was fightened but did not want to leave him alone. He shone the flashlight into the woods and noticed a ladder. He took it over to the balcony and pulled Sibson down just as the second floor of the house fell off. Sibson is still 40 when he tells the story. “I was alone that night,” he says. “Then I heard the most beautiful sound in my life. It was Huggons.” 环顾四周:look around / go around ②.冲:rush/ dash ③.倒下:fall down/ collapse /come down 【情绪类】 ①. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: When she approached him and said hello, he did not react. Taking a deep breath, Bales got closer, checked his pulse and suddenly realized that the man must have passed out. She knew she had to wake him up immediately or the dreadful weather could put him in greater danger. Out of her bag, Bales took a carpet to wrap the man, gave some hot water to him, called out repeatedly and shook him hard. Fortunately, it didn’t take long before the man came to himself. After waking the man up, Bales recognized that they had to get out of there soon. The wind kept howling with the heavy sleet driving fiercely, and even worse, darkness began to fall. Anxious, Bales struggled to help the man up, supporting his weight and inching along the trail, following the tracks left by her hiking boots. After what seemed like ages, they finally made it to the foot of the mountain. The man was rushed to hospital immediately. Exhausted as she was, Bales felt a wave of happiness welled up inside. 词汇激活 行为类 ①检查:check/ examine ②唤醒:wake up/awaken ③努力:struggle to do/make great efforts to do 情绪类 ①高兴:happiness /joy ②焦急:anxious/worried 【点睛】[高分句型1] Taking a deep breath, Bales got closer, checked his pulse and suddenly realized that the man must have passed out.
