Travel is like a box of chocolates — you never know what you’re going to get, especially when you are using a blind box plane ticket.
Fan Zhihua, who enjoys going wherever she wants and whenever she wants, bought her first blind box plane ticket in March last year. The 29-year-old went to Zhangye, Gansu Province. It’s a lesser-known place, but it actually brings surprises.
When Fan arrived in Zhangye, she found that she was able to share a car with a few other people. This allowed the travelers to save money, since many of the area’s tourist places are far away from each other. So Fan found a group of easy-going young women to join. They went to some tourist places together, but everyone was free to choose their schedule “The best part of the trip is this way of travelling, free and fantastic,” Fan said.
She got more from the trip. Before that, Fan thought most of the natural scenery (风景) she saw in photos was over-beautified. However, her trip to Dunhuang changed her mind.
After a couple of days in Zhangye, the group decided to leave for Dunhuang. Fan was never a big fan of making travel plans, so she just went along. Fan and her travel pals went on a camel (骆驼) ride, and as they entered the desert, she was amazed at the scenery. “I couldn’t describe it in words. To be honest, I’m not a history lover, but when I was in the endless desert, it was amazing,” Fan said, “I felt like I had become Zhang Qian, traveling to Xiyu.”
Fan believes that life itself is a journey made up of long and short trips. “I think I was brought into this world to have as many experiences as possible and that I should make every day meaningful,” she added.
4. What do you know about Fan Zhihua?
A. She is a travel lover. B. She often travels with tour groups.
C. She has little spare time. D. She is good at making travel plans.
5. Which word can best describe Fan’s trip to Zhangye?
A. Short. B. Tiring. C. Expensive. D. Wonderful.
6. What might Fan learn from her trip to Dunhuang?
A. It’s now or never. B. Seeing is believing.
C. Sharing makes the trip fantastic. D. Actions speak louder than words.
7. Why did Fan mention Zhang Qian?
A. To show her respect for him.
B. To introduce the story of Zhang Qian.
C. To express her amazement at the desert.
D. To explain the difficulty of the journey to Xiyu.
A 5. D 6. B 7. C

根据第二段“Fan Zhihua, who enjoys going wherever she wants and whenever she wants, bought her first blind box plane ticket in March last year. (范志华喜欢随心所欲地去任何地方,去年3月,她购买了第一张盲盒机票)”以及后文她对旅行的热爱和感悟可知,范志华是一位旅行爱好者。故选A项。
根据第三段““The best part of the trip is this way of travelling, free and fantastic,” Fan said. (范志华说:“这次旅行最棒的地方就是这种旅行方式,自由又美妙。”)”可知,范志华认为张掖之旅自由且美妙,D选项“Wonderful”(美妙的)最能描述这次旅行。故选D项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Before that, Fan thought most of the natural scenery (风景) she saw in photos was over- beautified. However, her trip to Dunhuang changed her mind. (在此之前,范志华认为照片中看到的大部分自然风光都被过度美化了。然而,敦煌之旅改变了她的想法)”以及第五段她在敦煌沙漠中亲眼见到震撼景色的描述可知,范志华此前对照片中的风景持怀疑态度,直到亲身前往敦煌看到真实景色才改变想法,这体现了“眼见为实”的道理。故选B项。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“Fan and her travel pals went on a camel (骆驼) ride, and as they entered the desert, she was amazed at the scenery. “I couldn’t describe it in words. To be honest, I’m not a history lover, but when I was in the endless desert, it was amazing,” Fan said, “I felt like I had become Zhang Qian, traveling to Xiyu.” 。故选C项。

Whether it’s biting your nails, or going to bed at 2 a.m., we all have those annoying habits we just can’t seem to kick. But have you ever wondered why these bad habits keep winning the battle against your best efforts and intentions (意图)?
Humans are creatures of habit, and our brains love doing things the same way. That’s why bad habits grow easily in the repeated actions. Another reason why your bad habits keep winning is that they often provide a quick dopamine (多巴胺) fix, creating a desire that keeps you coming back for more. Think of the immediate relaxation from mindless snacking. The reward for doing such things is quick and easy, which is exactly what makes them so hard to resist (抵抗).
So what can you do? There are two main problems with breaking bad habits. First, it’s not as enjoyable as giving in to them. When we try to resist, there’s no pleasure, no dopamine and therefore no encouragement to keep doing so. Rather than trying to remove them completely, try to replace them with something healthier instead, or create a reward system for yourself to introduce the positive behaviour.
Second, a habit is often an unconscious action, so making it conscious changes it into a choice. You’d better start with an intentional action. Accepting your actions without judgement helps you stay apart from the feelings that keep you tied to those habits, like guilt, shame and dissatisfaction. This increased awareness will lead you to make more intentional choices and break the cycle of bad habits.
Knowing the psychology why your bad habits keep winning hopefully gets you to make more conscious, positive choices, and change, and build the foundation for lasting behavioural change.
8. How does the writer introduce the topic?
A. By listing numbers. B. By explaining a reason.
C. By voicing an opinion. D. By coming up with a question.
9. What makes bad habits hard to break?
A. People’s desire to keep fit. B. Quick and easy satisfaction.
C. Little knowledge of their effects. D. People’s unwillingness to change.
10. What is a problem with breaking bad habits?
A. It is painful. B. It is fearful. C. It takes much time. D. It calls for wisdom.
11. What can help kick a bad habit according to the passage?
A. Controlling feelings. B. Judging your actions.
C. Making active efforts. D. Turning to others for help.
D 9. B 10. A 11. C
根据第一段中“But have you ever wondered why these bad habits keep winning the battle against your best efforts and intentions (意图)?(但你有没有想过,为什么这些坏习惯总是战胜你的努力和意图?)”和第二段中“Humans are creatures of habit, and our brains love doing things the same way. That’s why bad habits grow easily in the repeated actions.(人类是习惯的生物,我们的大脑喜欢用同样的方式做事。这就是为什么坏习惯很容易在重复的行为中养成)”可知,作者通过提出一个问题来引入下文话题。故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Another reason why your bad habits keep winning is that they often provide a quick dopamine (多巴胺) fix, creating a desire that keeps you coming back for more.(你的坏习惯总是占上风的另一个原因是,它们经常能快速提供多巴胺,产生一种让你想要更多的欲望)”和“The reward for doing such things is quick and easy, which is exactly what makes them so hard to resist (抵抗).(做这种事情的回报是快速而简单的,这正是它们难以抗拒的原因)”可知,快速而简单的满足感让坏习惯难以改掉。
根据第三段中“First, it’s not as enjoyable as giving in to them. When we try to resist, there’s no pleasure, no dopamine and therefore no encouragement to keep doing so.(首先,抵制欲望远不如顺从欲望来得愉快。当我们试图抵抗时,不仅毫无愉悦感可言,也不会产生多巴胺,因此也就没有动力继续坚持下去。)”可知,改掉坏习惯的问题在于它不像屈服于坏习惯那样令人愉快,没有动力,是痛苦的。故选A项。
根据第三段中“Rather than trying to remove them completely, try to replace them with something healthier instead, or create a reward system for yourself to introduce the positive behaviour.(与其试图完全消除它们,不如试着用更健康的东西来代替它们,或者为自己建立一个奖励系统来引入积极的行为)”和第四段中“Second, a habit is often an unconscious action, so making it conscious changes it into a choice. You’d better start with an intentional action.(其次,习惯通常是一种无意识的行为,所以让它有意识会把它变成一种选择。你最好从一个有意的行动开始)”可知,要改掉坏习惯,需要主动采取行动,做出有意识的选择。故选C项。
D
Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life. Friendship usually develops during childhood. New friends are made when you are at school. Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long. Friends influence your development, maturity(成熟) and sense of responsibility(责任). A familiar opinion is “You can tell a lot about a person by knowing who his friends are.” Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same.
Some people call you their friends for the wrong reasons. These people are not really friends. They are superficial(表面的)only “friends” on the outside, not the inside where it counts. Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage. True friends are there whether you are rich or poor. It is easy to have many so-called “friends” if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the “phoney”.
True friends are most special. Sometimes they might not easy to find, so you can consider yourself very lucky if you have one true friend. This friend is eager to help you whenever necessary. He or she knows you would do the same for them. A true friend is someone you can talk to about any subject or problem. You and your true friend have good understanding of each other. True friends support you, take your side, and build up your confidence.
12. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. How to make true friends. B. What is friendship based on.
C. We should make friends in our childhood. D. Friends play a very important role in our life.
13. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. It is easy to have many true friends if you are rich.
B. If you have no music in you, one of your friends will be a music lover.
C. The friendship developing during your school days will be with you for a long time.
D. What you value above anything is the friendship developing during childhood.
14. What does the underlined phrase “so-called ‘friends’” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Friends in need. B. Fair-weather friends.
C. Those who can help you. D. Those who often gives you money.
15. What’s the author’s attitude towards “true friends” according to paragraph 3?
A. True friends are too difficult to find. B. You can only share sadness with a true friend.
C. You can simply share happiness with a true friend. D. True friends will stand by you whatever happens.
D 13. C 14. B 15. D
根据文章第一段“Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life.(朋友在每个人的生活中扮演着非常重要的角色。)”以及“Friends influence your development, maturity(成熟) and sense of responsibility(责任).(朋友影响你的发展、成熟和责任感。)”
根据文章第一段“Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long.(那些你在学生时代交朋友通常可以持续很长时间。)”以及“Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same.(友谊是以共同的兴趣为基础的。
根据文章第二段划线词之前“Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage.(肤浅的朋友只有在对他们有利的情况下才愿意和你做朋友。)”以及划线词之后“if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the “phoney”.(如果你很富有,到这个时候,你应该能够认出你的朋友是真的还是“假的”。)”
根据文章第三段“True friends are most special.

C Sharing makes the trip fantastic. D. Actions speak louder than words.
7. Why did Fan mention Zhang Qian?
A. To show her respect for him.
B. To introduce the story of Zhang Qian.
C. To express her amazement at the desert.
D. To explain the difficulty of the journey to Xiyu.
