And she is best known for her wonderful work advancing the education and rights of women and girls in Pakistan. Born in 1997, Malala grew up in the Swat Valley in northern Pakistan, where the leading party gained control in 2007, and education for girls and cultural activities like playing music and flying kites were banned (禁止). Despite the dangers, Malala continued to attend school and became an outspoken speaker for educational rights for girls in Pakistan. In 2012, at the age of 15, she was shot in the head on her way home from school. Fortunately, Malala survived the attack and continued her work from abroad, eventually becoming the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, at the age of just 17. Malala’s story proves the power of cultural diversity and the importance of fighting for equal rights and opportunities for all to the world. Her unshakable devotion to education and helping women and girls for their rights has inspired people around the world and serves as a reminder that even in the face of great adversities, change is possible. In addition to her work, Malala has also founded the Malala Fund, which aims to provide education and resources to girls in some of the world’s least developed areas. Today, Malala continues to be a leading voice in the fight for equality and justice, and her story also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating diversity in all its forms. 4.What does Malala want most to achieve for girls in Pakistan? A.Their rights for schooling. B.Their rights for voting. C.Their opportunities for jobs. D.Their chances for key positions. 5.What does the underlined word “adversities” in Paragraph 5 probably mean? A.Times. B.Puzzles. C.Situations. D.Difficulties. 6.Which of the following can best describe Malala? A.Ambitious and energetic. B.Brave and determined. C.Responsible and thoughtful. D.Pioneering and adventurous. 7.What does the text mainly focus on about Malala? A.Her surviving the killing. B.Her winning the Noble Peace Prize. C.Her seeking for equal rights for females. D.Her fighting for justice for her people. C Monitoring a person’s pulse (脉搏) continuously can offer meaningful and important medical information, such as heart rate and, indirectly, blood pressure. However, pulse waves can change a lot from person to person and even within the same person at different times of day and during different activities. These changes make it difficult for current wearable pulse sensors to collect accurate data, which is especially problematic for those with cardiovascular (心血管的) diseases or high-risk factors for those diseases. To solve this problem, a team led by Penn State researchers looked first not to the future, but back—to principles of pulse monitoring in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Using these principles, the researchers designed a pressure-sensing platform to identify the best pulse signal, which they combined with a machine learning model to also predict blood pressure. They published their results in Advanced Materials. “According to TCM, doctors would take the pulse at three positions on the wrist: cun, guan and chi,” said co-author Larry Cheng, Jr. Memorial Associate Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Penn State. “As they use three fingers to press at these locations, they increase the pressure to measure the pulse from shallow to deeper. This method provides a more accurate reading of pulse signals, whether the person is active or resting.” Cheng explained that in order to design a wearable health monitor, they used two ideas, adaptive pressures and various wrist locations. The researchers used 3D printing to print a sensor array (阵列)—one device with several sensors. The principles of TCM allow them to address the limitations of using just one point on the wrist and to better collect data from different places on the wrist and at several depths. “The sensor array is completely printed, which is cheaper than traditional methods of constructing a sensor. This also makes the sensor array easier to operate, improving its design as a wearable device,” Cheng said. 8.What is the main problem with current wearable pulse sensors? A.They are too expensive for common people to consume. B.They are too difficult for people to continuously operate. C.They can’t collect accurate data due to pulse wave changes. D.They are useless for people with cardiovascular diseases. 9.How did the researchers improve pulse signal detection in their design? A.By decreasing the number of sensors on the wrist. B.By combining adaptive pressure and multiple wrist locations. C.By using artificial intelligence to replace traditional methods. D.By only concentrating on shallow pulse measurements. 10.What is the purpose of writing this text? A.To introduce the current problems of producing wearable pulse sensors. B.To describe why researchers collect accurate pulse data with 3D printing. C.To explain the principles of pulse monitoring in traditional Chinese medicine. D.To show the application of traditional Chinese medicine in pulse monitoring. 11.What is the best title for the text? A.Old Wisdom Meets New Tech: TCM Inspires Pulse Sensors. B.Old methods in New Devices: TCM Adopts AI for Pulse Analysis. C.Old Herbs Meet Digital Tools: TCM builds New Sensor Software. D.Old ideas in Modern Machines: TCM carries Pulse Sensor Errors. D Thethiwe Mahlangu woke early on a cold morning and walked through her busy South African township, where minibuses picked up passengers. Her eyes had been troubling her. But instead of going to her nearby health clinic, Mahlangu was headed to the train station for an unusual form of care. A passenger train known as Phelophepa — or “good, clean, health” in the Sesotho language — has been transformed into a mobile health facility. It travels throughout South Africa for much of the year, providing medical attention to the sick, young and old who often struggle to receive the care they need at crowded local clinics. For the past 30 years, the train has carried doctors and nurses on an annual journey that touches even the most rural villages, delivering primary health care to about 375,000 people a year. The free care the “health train” delivers is in contrast to South Africa’s overstretched public health care system on which about 84% of people rely. Just 16% of South Africans are covered by health insurance plans that are beyond the financial reach of many in a nation with unemployment of over 32%. Earlier this year, the government began to address that gap. President Cyril Ramaphosa in May signed into law — the National Health Insurance Act, which aims to provide funding so that millions of South Africans without health insurance can receive care from the private hospitals. For Mahlangu and others who look to the train for a rare source of free treatment, the situation at local health clinics is one of despair. Long lines, shortages of medicines and rude nurses are some of the challenges at the clinics that serve thousands of patients a day in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg. The “health train” has grown from a single three-carriage operation over the years to two, 16-carriage trains. Now both trains address the rising population of South Africa’s capital of Pretoria and nearby Johannesburg, the country’s economic center. 12.What does the author want to show by mentioning 375,000 people? A.Contributions Phelophepa has made. B.Efforts from doctors in big hospitals. C.The annual birth rate in South Africa. D.The number of visitors to South Africa. 13.What can we learn about South Africa from paragraph 3? A.Its education quality needs improving. B.Its public health care can’t benefit most people. C.Its medical staff are nice and friendly. D.Its public transportation is well-developed. 14.How did Mahlangu find local health clinics? A.Far. B.Well-staffed. C.Unsatisfactory. D.Big. 15.What is the best title for the text? A.The Research on Train Communication Network B.The Process of Political Change in South Africa C.South Africa’s “Health Train” Travels to Patients in Need D.Medical Technology Has Advanced Considerably Nowadays, many people turn to the Internet for medical advice when they notice signs of illness. This is understandable as seeing a doctor can be time-consuming and costly unless it’s a serious health concern. 16 Often, the answer is: not really. Medicine is complex. 17 For instance, the cause of a cough in a healthy 25-year-old might be different from that in a 65-year-old smoker. Yet, they might find the same search results. People may also not know the exact terms to search for. A search for “bloating (腹胀)” might suggest eating more slowly or avoiding dairy products, which can help if bloating is from too much air, but not so if it’s from fluid (液体) build-up. Only after seeing a doctor and undergoing a physical examination would it be identified as “ascites (腹腔积水)”. 18 Many articles are written intentionally to make money or promote specific agendas, not to give accurate advice. In fact, only a small part of the health information available online is created with the reader’s best interests in mind. Fortunately, a few strategies can help us find reliable medical information. First, check the author and website. 19 Government agencies are also trustworthy and offer regularly updated information. Besides, be careful if a website recommends a specific medication or procedure, especially if it has large ads for that treatment. 20 By following these tips, we can improve our chances of finding useful, accurate, and objective health information. A.So is this trend bound to continue? B.But is online medical advice actually reliable? C.These pages may be created by profit-driven companies. D.An even bigger issue is the rise of medical misinformation. E.Online articles often fail to consider each person’s unique situation. F.Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to figure out a website’s intentions. G.Reliable sources are usually written by doctors or hosted on trusted sites. When I first started as a hospice (临终关怀医院) volunteer, one of my tasks was to assist the families of patients in filling out life review forms. He crossed a corner and noticed a panic-stricken woman getting off a taxi with a child in her arms. “What’s going on? Why is she shouting at the driver?” Carl wondered and slowed down near them. Carl was curious and got off the cab to find out what happened. Then he realized the woman was begging the driver not to leave. “Hey, Miss! Why are you crying?” Carl saw her holding a little boy in her arms, who had difficulty breathing. Carl realized the boy was having a seizure (疾病的突然发作) and asked the woman to get into his taxi. “He’s having an attack! Please hurry up, Miss! We have to get him to the hospital!” Carl drove as fast as he could, praying not to get trapped in traffic. The woman told Carl that she and her four-year-old son, Tyler, were returning from the park when it started raining. “I told the driver I would pay him once I got home because I didn’t have my purse with me. But then my son suddenly had a seizure, so I asked the driver to take us to the hospital instead. But he refused.” “Don’t worry, Miss. I will get you to the hospital on time, alright?” Half an hour later, they arrived at the hospital. Tyler was rushed inside for treatment. An hour later, the doctor came out and said, “Mrs. Thomas, your son is out of danger now. But it could have been fatal if you hadn’t made it here on time.” Mrs. Thomas immediately looked at Carl and joined his hands in tears, thanking him for saving her son’s life. Tears fogged in Carl’s eyes. He was glad Tyler was out of danger. Later, he dropped them off at home, and when Mrs. Thomas came out to pay him, he refused. “I have a policy. NO FARES for those making trips to the hospital!” revealed Carl. 18 years later, 66-year-old Carl booked a taxi to the hospital. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Carl was astonished. “Free trips to the hospital? 根据第一段“However, pulse waves can change a lot from person to person and even within the same person at different times of day and during different activities. These changes make it difficult for current wearable pulse sensors to collect accurate data(然而,脉搏波因人而异,甚至同一个人在一天中的不同时间和不同活动期间也会有很大变化。这些变化使得当前的可穿戴脉搏传感器难以收集准确数据)” 可知,当前可穿戴脉搏传感器的主要问题是由于脉搏波的变化无法收集准确数据。故选C。 9.细节理解题。根据第三段“Cheng explained that in order to design a wearable health monitor, they used two ideas, adaptive pressures and various wrist locations.(Cheng 解释说,为了设计一款可穿戴健康监测设备,他们采用了两个思路,自适应压力和手腕的不同位置)” 可知,研究人员通过结合自适应压力和多个手腕位置来改进脉搏信号检测。故选B。 10. 文章是先指出当前可穿戴脉搏传感器的问题,接着在第二段阐述 “To solve this problem, a team led by Penn State researchers looked first not to the future, but back—to principles of pulse monitoring in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Using these principles, the researchers designed a pressure-sensing platform to identify the best pulse signal, which they combined with a machine learning model to also predict blood pressure.(为解决这一问题,由宾夕法尼亚州立大学研究人员带领的一个团队并未着眼于未来,而是回溯到传统中医的脉搏监测原理。 。故选A。 D Thethiwe Mahlangu woke early on a cold morning and walked through her busy South African township, where minibuses picked up passengers. A.The Research on Train Communication Network B.The Process of Political Change in South Africa C.South Africa’s “Health Train” Travels to Patients in Need D.Medical Technology Has Advanced Considerably 【答案】12.A 13.B 14.C 15.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文,讲述了“健康列车”成为南非免费医疗的重要来源。 12. 根据第二段中“For the past 30 years, the train has carried doctors and nurses on an annual journey that touches even the most rural villages, delivering primary health care to about 375,000 people a year.(在过去的30年里,这列火车载着医生和护士,每年向大约37.5万人提供初级医疗服务,甚至触及最偏远的村庄)”可知,作者在第二段提及375000人是为了展示列车Phelophepa所做的贡献。故选A。 13. 根据第三段“The free care the ‘health train’ delivers is in contrast to South Africa's overstretched public health care system on which about 84% of people rely. Just 16% of South Africans are covered by health insurance plans that are beyond the financial reach of many in a nation with unemployment of over 32%.(‘健康列车’提供的免费医疗与南非不堪重负的公共医疗体系形成鲜明对比,约84%的南非人依赖公共医疗体系。只有16%的南非人享有医疗保险计划,在一个失业率超过32%的国家,这超出了许多人的经济能力)”可推知,南非的公共卫生保健不能使大多数人受益,故选B。 14.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“For Mahlangu and others who look to the train for a rare source of free treatment, the situation at local health clinics is one of despair. Long lines, shortages of medicines and rude nurses are some of the challenges at the clinics that serve thousands of patients a day in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.(对于Mahlangu和其他希望通过火车获得罕见的免费治疗的人来说,当地卫生室的情况令人绝望。在约翰内斯堡以东的坦比萨,每天接待数千名病人的诊所面临着排长队、药品短缺和粗鲁的护士等挑战)”可知, Mahlangu对当地的卫生室不满意,故选C。 15.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段“A passenger train known as Phelophepa — or ‘good, clean, health’ in the Sesotho language — has been transformed into a mobile health facility. It travels throughout South Africa for much of the year, providing medical attention to the sick, young and old who often struggle to receive the care they need at crowded local clinics. 【答案】16.B 17.E 18.D 19.G 20.C 【导语】本文是说明文。文章讨论了当前人们倾向于在网上寻求医疗建议的现象,并对此进行了分析和评价。 16.根据前文“Nowadays, many people turn to the Internet for medical advice when they notice signs of illness. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 18 years later, 66-year-old Carl booked a taxi to the hospital. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Carl was astonished. “Free trips to the hospital? He had retired from work and had developed health issues. He was going to the hospital for some tests. He was waiting outside when a taxi pulled over. Carl waved at the young driver. He got in and told the driver to drop him off at the hospital. “Alright, sir!” the driver replied and continued driving. They didn’t talk much in the car when Carl suddenly realized he left his wallet at home. “Sir, you don’t have to pay me. All the trips I make to the hospital are free!” the driver said. Carl was astonished. “Free trips to the hospital? But why?” “When I was little, I had seizures, and a driver drove me to the hospital for free and saved my life. His kindness inspired me, so I do the same!” Carl felt lighter and happier. “What’s your name?” he asked the driver, and tears rose to his eyes when the driver said, “TYLER.” Carl spoke no more, wiping tears of joy as they proceeded to the hospital. 词汇激活 行为类 ①回答,答复:reply/respond/answer ②意识到:realize/recognize ③拯救:save/rescue ④激励:inspire/motivate/encourage 情绪类 ①轻松的:light/relaxed ②喜悦:joy/delight/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] They didn’t talk much in the car when Carl suddenly realized he left his wallet at home.
