Baseball is very popular in America now, and it has a long
history. Its history can date back to (追溯到) 1744, in a
children’s book A Little Pretty Pocket-Book in the UK. There was a
game called baseball. Later on, people got to know much other

In 1749, Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales, played

The Boy’s Own Book (1828) told the rules to today’s game

infield (菱形的内场). When a player hit (击) the ball
through or over the infield, he could run. If the ball hit
somewhere else, which was against the rule, he could not run.
Three missed batting (击球) meant the player lost the game.
In The Book of Sports (1834) by Robin Carver, he

Thomas was sent to spend the summer holidays with his
father, Christian, in a small island in the south of France.
Christian is an ornithologist (鸟类学家) and works for a project
to help a group of endangered geese fly from Norway to France in a
light aircraft (飞行器). Thomas decided to join his father to
help him with the task.
To guide the geese to France, Thomas had to use a skill
called imprinting. This is about letting the geese live with humans
from a young age, so they learn to recognize them as their
leaders.
Thomas spent a lot of time with the geese, talking to them,
and even sleeping in the same room as them. This helped the geese
build close connection with him and see him as their leader.
Once the geese were comfortable with Thomas, they were
ready to make their first flight with their leader—Thomas. He
carefully put the geese into the plane. As they took off, the geese
became uneasy and started to flap their wings, which could make
the aircraft unstable. To solve this problem, Thomas used his
knowledge of birds to create a peaceful environment for the geese.
As they flew across the ocean, the team met unexpected
weather conditions, including strong winds and turbulence (湍
流). Thomas remained calm, using his knowledge of birds to
guess their reactions (反应) in advance and ensured the geese
remain calm and safe.
Finally, they successfully arrived in France, where Thomas
released the geese into the wild.
