Ryan was an ordinary student who faced constant challenges in academics and extracurricular activities. He often compared himself to others and felt inadequate, doubting his own abilities. His classmates excelled(表现出色)effortlessly, while he struggled to keep up. Even his parents’ encouraging words couldn’t silence the voice in his head, whispering, “You’ll never be good enough.”
One day, Ryan came across a martial arts dojo(武术馆)among towering buildings. Through the fogged windows, he watched students move with precision and calmness, their focused expressions contrasting sharply with his own restless mind. Fascinated, he stepped inside, his sneakers squeaking on the polished wooden floor. A wise-looking man with silver hair — Master Li — greeted him with a nod. “Strength begins with the courage to try,” the master said, as if reading Ryan’s hesitation.
Under Master Li’s guidance, Ryan learned not only kicks and blocks but also the philosophy of balance. During one exhausting training session, Ryan collapsed after repeatedly failing a spinning kick. “Why do I keep falling?” he said to himself, frustration burning his cheeks. Master Li knelt beside him. “A tree grows strongest against the wind,” he replied. “Each fall teaches your roots to dig deeper.” These words lingered in Ryan’s mind as he practiced daily, often staying late to perfect his forms.
Months passed. Ryan’s palms grew calloused (起老茧的), and his muscles ached, but his spirit felt lighter. He began applying Master Li’s lessons to his studies — breaking problems into smaller steps, and breathing through panic before exams. When he struggled in his math, he remembered, “Fall seven times, stand up eight.” Slowly, his grades improved, and his shoulders straightened with quiet confidence.
The ultimate test came when Master Li suggested Ryan join a regional martial arts tournament. “This isn’t about winning,” he cautioned. “It’s about honoring your journey.” Ryan’s heart raced as he registered, his name now listed alongside seasoned competitors.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

On the day of the tournament, Ryan took the stage for his martial arts performance. His first move was shaky, and the audience laughed. As the music started, Ryan remembered Master Li’s voice. He focused, turning his fear into action — blocking imaginary strikes, pivoting smoothly, and moving with controlled force. Though his performance wasn’t perfect, he kept going. In the final part, a difficult kick made him lose his balance and fall. The audience murmured in surprise, but Ryan got up and bowed. The applause rose for his unwavering spirit.
Though Ryan did not win the tournament, he gained something far more valuable. He realized that the power to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness was within him all along. Inspired by his journey, Ryan shared his story with his fellow students at school. He encouraged them to embrace their own inner strength, to believe in their abilities, and to persist in the face of challenges. “We all have invisible ability,” he said. His words gave people hope. Students started staying late to study and joining clubs they used to be scared of. Ryan, who used to feel unsure, encouraged his friends to find their own hidden strengths.
①想起:remember/recall/recollect
②说悄悄话:murmur/whisper
③鼓舞:inspire/encourage/motivate
①害怕:fear/terror/scare

[高分句型1] He focused, turning his fear into action — blocking imaginary strikes, pivoting smoothly, and moving with controlled force.(运用了现在分词作状语)
[高分句型2] He realized that the power to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness was within him all along.(运用了that引导宾语从句)
[高分句型3] Ryan, who used to feel unsure, encouraged his friends to find their own hidden strengths.(运用who引导的非限制性定语从句)
原文中,Ryan 因学业和课外活动落后而怀疑自我,“Even his parents’ encouraging words couldn’t silence the voice in his head, whispering, ‘You’ll never be good enough’”,而武术馆的经历与 Master Li 的哲理(如 “A tree grows strongest against the wind”“Fall seven times, stand up eight”)成为他转变的关键。
在续写中,需延续这一主题逻辑:第一段通过 “表演失误(shaky first move、lose his balance)— 坚持完成(kept going、got up and bowed)” 的情节,体现 Ryan 对 “不完美但不放弃” 的理解;第二段则通过 “领悟内在力量(the power to overcome obstacles was within him)— 传递成长能量(encouraged fellow students)”,将个人成长升华为对他人的积极影响,深化 “自我突破不仅是个人进步,更是传递勇气” 的主题。
首句为 “On the day of the tournament, Ryan took the stage for his martial arts performance”,续写需先铺垫表演的初始状态(情境铺垫),再设置冲突(动作失误),最后以观众反馈体现情感落点(认可)。
情境铺垫:“His first move was shaky, and the audience laughed”,用 “shaky” 呼应 Ryan 初次参赛的紧张,“audience laughed” 营造压力氛围,与原文中他 “heart raced as he registered” 的紧张情绪一致;e冲突展开:“In the final part, a difficult kick made him lose his balance and fall”,延续原文中 “repeatedly failing a spinning kick” 的 “失败” 线索,但此次 Ryan 的反应从 “frustration” 变为 “got up and bowed”,体现成长;
情感升华:“The applause rose for his unwavering spirit”,以观众的掌声为 Ryan 的 “坚持” 盖章,既符合 “honoring your journey” 的赛事理念,也为第二段的 “自我领悟” 埋下伏笔。
首句为 “Though Ryan did not win the tournament, he gained something far more valuable”,续写需先明确 “宝贵收获” 的具体内容(自我领悟),再通过行动展现收获的意义(影响他人),最终回归人物成长的核心。
领悟核心:“He realized that the power to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness was within him all along”,直接点出 “内在力量” 这一核心收获,呼应 Master Li “Strength begins with the courage to try” 的初始引导;
行动体现:“Ryan shared his story with his fellow students... encouraged them to embrace their own inner strength”,将个人领悟转化为实际行动,与原文中他 “applying Master Li’s lessons to his studies” 的 “学以致用” 逻辑一致;
影响升华:“Students started staying late to study and joining clubs they used to be scared of”,通过他人的改变,凸显 Ryan 成长的辐射力,让 “自我突破” 的主题更具深度,也让故事结局更温暖。
原文中 “struggled to keep up”“repeatedly failing”“frustration” 等 “困难” 类词汇,在续写第一段转化为 “shaky first move”“lose his balance”,既保持 “挑战” 的情节主线,又通过 “got up and bowed” 体现应对方式的变化;
原文中 “doubt his own abilities”“restless mind”“hesitation” 等 “消极情感” 词汇,在续写第一段变为 “fear”(turning his fear into action),但 “fear” 已不再是阻碍,而是转化为行动的动力;
第二段中 “quiet confidence”(原文)升级为 “realized the power was within him”“encouraged them to believe in their abilities”,从 “自我认可” 变为 “主动赋能他人”,情感层次更丰富。
参考范文中 “turning his fear into action”“kept going” 呼应原文 “A tree grows strongest against the wind”,体现 “在挑战中成长”;
“Fall seven times, stand up eight” 在续写中具象化为 “lose his balance and fall... got up and bowed”,让抽象哲理变为具体行动,增强故事的说服力。
参考范文第一段 78 词(含首句),第二段 76 词(含首句),结构均衡:第一段聚焦 “表演过程”,用细节(audience laughed/murmured/applause)推动情节;第二段聚焦 “领悟与影响”,用对话(“We all have invisible ability”)和结果(students stayed late/joined clubs)深化主题,无冗余内容。
情节线索上,续写第一段承接 “参赛”,写 “表演”;第二段承接 “表演结果”,写 “收获”,形成 “参赛 — 表演 — 收获” 的完整情节链;
情感线索上,续写第一段 “fear—turn into action” 承接原文 “hesitation—courage to try”;第二段 “realize power within—encourage others” 承接原文 “quiet confidence—honor journey”,让情感变化有迹可循。
视觉细节:“shaky first move”“pivoting smoothly”“lose his balance and fall”,让读者能想象 Ryan 表演的动作状态;
听觉细节:“audience laughed”“audience murmured”“applause rose”,通过观众的声音变化,侧面烘托 Ryan 的表现,比单纯写 “Ryan did well” 更具感染力。
例如参考范文中,Ryan 并非直接说 “要自信”,而是 “shared his story”“encouraged them to embrace their own inner strength”,再通过 “students started staying late to study and joining clubs they used to be scared of” 的具体结果,让 “成长” 的主题从个人延伸到群体,既自然又有说服力。
(2025高三·全国·专题练习)I had been feeling completely overwhelmed and stressed by my work, so I realized that I urgently needed a break. More than that, I knew it was the right moment to go out of my comfort zone and try something new.
I had always been fascinated by figure skating. Whenever I watched it on TV, I was in awe of the skaters’ incredible grace and precision. Little did I anticipate that this seemingly elegant sport would present a challenge when I finally gave it a try.
The idea of gliding effortlessly across the ice seemed like the perfect way to spend my break. So, with newfound determination, I grabbed my socks and gloves, and headed to the ice skating rink (溜冰场).
When I arrived at the rink, I rented a pair of ice skates and cautiously made my way onto the ice. My heart raced with excitement, but as soon as my feet touched the frozen surface, I realized just how difficult ice skating could be. I wobbled (摇晃) and slipped, barely managing to stay upright. I laughed at myself for being so confident before and pushed myself to try again. As I tried to walk on the ice holding onto the barricade, I couldn’t help but admire the experienced skaters gliding past me easily.
However, I struggled to maintain my balance and control my movements. Every muscle in my body was tense as I fought against the slippery surface. But it wasn’t long before my efforts were in vain. I took a tumble, landing on the ice with a resounding thud To my surprise, rather than feeling embarrassed, I burst out laughing. The people around me, perhaps charmed by the unexpected turn of events, joined in, their laughter warm and encouraging. Without hesitation, I got up, dusted myself off, and was about to give it another go.

The first day Mohamed went to a fine food store in his new neighborhood, he realized that he really wasn’t in Tunisia anymore. He looked up at the menu board, which had nothing but sandwiches on it, and wondered how he was going to figure out what all of these strange names meant. Mohamed decided that he would just get dessert instead and asked the woman at the counter for ice cream in a cup. She smiled broadly and disappeared behind the big glass display case to fill his order.
While Mohamed waited, he looked at the baked goods in the case. There were sixteen kinds of bagels (百吉饼) and a few different types of cookies that Mohamed didn’t recognize, but there were no pies and definitely nothing from home. Mohamed had been so excited when his parents told him they were immigrating to the United States, but now, his bravery and excitement felt a little out of place.
The woman came back to the counter with a tall paper cup. It contained a long straw and some kind of frothy (有泡沫的) drink. Mohamed, completely confused, took the cup and thanked her, considering the possibility that he had used the wrong word.
“It’s the soda you ordered,” she said, “an ice cream drink in a cup.”
He smiled at the woman again, pointed at one of the bagels, and said, “That one, too, please,” which seemed to work better.
Mohamed took the bagel and his mystery soda to a table and sat down to eat. Why was it that English had been so easy for him in his classes in Tunisia, but when it came down to actually speaking, he couldn’t even get what he wanted to eat?
Later, he might find it funny that his English was so hard to figure out that he got a soda instead of the ice cream he wanted. Right now, it just felt depressing that his English was, he thought, disappointing. One mistake seemed to put everything Mohamed wanted or knew about himself impossible to reach.

I was in New York City on a school trip. I called home from a pay phone, and my little sister, Alex, said four envelopes had arrived: Georgetown, Cornell, William and Mary and the University of Massachusetts. She then opened and read them to me in her ten-year-old voice: “We regret that we do not have a place for you...” Rejected from Georgetown. “You were one of many qualified candidates...” Rejected from Cornell. And number seventy-three on a waiting list of seventy-five at William and Mary. Accepted to U Mass, my safety school.
I didn’t digest the rejections immediately. I toured the United Nations, took train home and went back to school. Then I realized that other people had gotten into schools they really wanted to go to. Up to that point in my seventeen years, I hadn’t really failed at anything. I got good grades, made the school team and scored well on my SATs. I hadn’t experienced any major disappointments in my life, no deaths, no disease, no divorce, no cavities (龋齿) even. So being rejected seemed disastrous.
I had always assumed I’d go to one of the“good schools.”I really wanted to be chosen: This is the place for smart people, and we want you. U Mass, on the other hand, had the reputation of being a party school to which, come September, I’d be headed with the guy who sat next to me in tenth-grade history and who, during tests, left his book open on the floor and turned the pages with his feet.
I did not get active like my friend Heather, who, having been rejected by her first choice, made I Love Lucy-style plans to drive to the Duke campus with her soccer ball and her science-fair project to show the admissions board(招生委员会) exactly what they were rejecting. I simply said things like, “I’ve decided to give up the undergraduate degree and take a cake-decorating course.” The subtext in this was: I’m stupid. The world isn’t fair.

I could hear one of my classmates expressing her impatience with my slow crawl up the ladder (梯子),“If she’s afraid of heights, why would she sign up for a Bungee Jumping (蹦极) class?” My friend was at the top of the ladder, trying to cheer me up. How did I wind up on a ladder hanging above the Hudson River?
It was my friend who invited me to the Bungee Jumping class. At first, I was doubtful, but her enthusiasm and guarantees of strict safety procedures won me over.
I had been fearful of heights since primary school. Avoiding my fear of heights became second nature. I tried not to look down at balconies or staircases. I avoided traveling by plane as much as possible. I declined invitations from friends to join them on roller coasters (过山车).
But here I was, at age twenty-six, facing my fear of heights in a rather extreme way. I had come around to the idea of trying Bungee Jumping. I figured it wasn’t much different from swinging on the monkey bars as a kid. The one obstacle I didn’t expect was the ladder. In order to reach the Bungee Jumping, I had to climb up a twenty-two-foot ladder.
My friend’s distraction techniques helped to take my mind off my dangerous task. I found a rhythm and kept going. With a slow and steady (稳定的) pace, I made it to the top.
An instructor tied me to a safety belt and told me to step to the edge of the platform. I held the Bungee Jumping bar with sweaty hands, surprised that it was too thick to fix my hand around. Instead of a firm grasp, my hands were in a weak, bear-claw position.
The cheers from my classmates rang out below. An instructor reminded me of the safety rules, including the net below that would catch me at the bottom. He reminded me to listen to the directions while in the air, so I could perform well.

Niesha could not forget the way she froze in front of the class today. Mr. Roberts had divided the class into groups to do presentations. Today was Niesha’s turn. However, her hands shook so violently that she couldn’t read her notes. Her voice became softer even to silence. Mr. Roberts kindly ended Niesha’s part of the presentation even though she did clearly not finish. He also asked Niesha to stay after class for a moment.
“Niesha, I know you’re shy, but you worked hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Then Mr. Roberts hesitated, “If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find your courage?” Niesha nodded, grateful for the chance. She went as quickly as she could to her next class. She kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon.
When she reached her back steps that afternoon, she could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Momma was baking. Momma studied Niesha’s face as she came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, Niesha?”
Tears shone in Niesha’s brown eyes. She told her the whole story. Momma was silent for a moment, her hands still busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything, but you can’t talk to your class?” Momma asked. She set the timer (计时器) and then said, “Let me show you something.”
Niesha followed Momma to her bedroom. There Momma showed her a book filled with newspaper clippings (剪报) and pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon (丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents.
“I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn’t easy at first-- I was not sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my fears. You just need to find your courage.”

“Settle down!” Mr. Taylor was trying to calm the boys with a loud voice. The moment they entered the gym and saw the climbing walls towering over them, the boys got excited and started making noises. But Stevie was an exception, who was standing aside looking at his thin arms silently. Stevie didn’t like climbing. It wasn’t his thing. Getting along with people wasn’t his thing, either. He just felt nobody liked or trusted him at school.
Then came the coach, who taught the boys some basic skills. He said everyone should have a climbing partner and showed them how to belay (保护) their partner. “If you are a climber, trust your belayer and challenge yourself. Belayers, please remember that your partner’s life depends on you.”
The moment he finished, the boys couldn’t wait to match themselves with a partner except Stevie, who was left alone wandering around the gym. Noticing his embarrassment, Mr. Taylor raised his voice and said, “I need someone I can really trust to team up with!” He looked around. Then his gaze fell upon Stevie. “How about you, Stevie? Would you like to be my belayer?” “Me?” Stevie widened his eyes, surprised to hear Mr. Taylor even say his name. He had thought he was invisible. “I guess,” Stevie managed a weak smile.
Nervous as he was, he plucked up courage. “It doesn’t matter who gets to the top first. It’s about giving it a go.” Hearing Mr. Taylor’s words, Stevie gritted (咬紧牙关) his teeth and moved up slowly, his face pressed against the rough surface. “Done it!” Stevie finally called from the top with excitement. Then Mr. Taylor started to let him down through a perfect control of the rope.“Well done,” said Mr. Taylor when Stevie landed on the floor.
Now it’s Stevie’s turn to control the rope. Bearing in mind his responsibility, Stevie carefully watched as Mr. Taylor climbed up, pulling in the rope hand over hand. He felt his heart racing wildly. Finally, Mr. Taylor arrived at the top. “Ready to let me down now?” said Mr. Taylor. “Okay,” Stevie took a deep breath, his palms sweating uncontrollably.

When I was a child, my mother told my sister, who had a 10-inch very obvious scar (伤疤) on her arm, “Nancy, if you ignore the scar, other people will ignore it. It does not mean they will not notice it, but it means it will not matter to them if it doesn’t matter to you.”
It never occurred to me that something like this would happen to my son years later. Sending a child off to college can certainly be stressful for concerned parents. It was in 2018 that my son went off to college. He rarely contacted us. I couldn’t help asking about other aspects, which sometimes made him complain that I didn’t treat him as an adult.
To be honest, my son is excellent. Some of my friends always tell me that they admire my son’s characters and they hope their sons could have some of them.
Unexpectedly, it was 4 o’clock in the morning in 2020, when I received the phone call. “This is the emergency room calling and your son was just brought in with severe burns on his face, neck and arms. We have called for an aircraft and are going to fly him to the burn unit in Seattle.” Seattle was 350 miles from his college, so we knew immediately this was serious.
The doctor described the reason, which caused the burns. At 6 am, my son and his friends decided to barbecue hamburgers in the courtyard of their apartment. When they lit the charcoal, it burst into flames because they had sprayed too much gasoline. The flames caught my son’s shirt tail and shot from his waist to well over his head.
Fortunately, one of the boys who was quick-minded grasped my son and rolled him on the grass. While it saved his life, it was not in shape to save him from severe burns and terrible scars.
After he recovered from the treatments, the doctors told him they would not do plastic surgery for 6 months because it takes that long for the skin to stop shrinking and wrinkling.

Thin, average, and undisciplined, I was the underdog of the boys’ basketball tryouts (选拔赛) in seventh grade. Making the team was very important to me. Although I was extremely nervous, I truly thought I would make the team. But I went in overly optimistic, and quickly faced a cruel reality check.
When on the court, I huffed and puffed like an old man on his last legs; clearly, I was out of shape and having trouble keeping up. When it hit me that this was only the first day, and that there was a second to follow, I realized I would have to step it up in order to gain a spot on the team.
Unfortunately, day two went exactly like day one: I missed shots, passed badly like an out-of-breath fool. Hoping the coach was not watching all my bad moves, I had trouble keeping a positive attitude. Finally, Coach-who at five-foot-four usually seemed small, posted the lists of the Boys A and B Teams. Everybody quickly ran to catch a glimpse of the chosen few.
After scanning the list once, twice, three times, my name was nowhere. Although I had predicted the disaster that had now settled on me, with my head hanging. I slowly walked to the car. This experience definitely had not gone as I planned.
On the way home, I complained “How could that foolish boy is a better choice than me? And…”
“Adam!” my mom cut me off. “Why don’t you realize maybe you need a little more practice? You’d better go to basketball camps next summer.”
Although I did not want to believe her, I knew it was true. Failing to make the team was nobody’s fault but mine. Right then and there, in the middle of my anger, I realized I had to get my act together.

②惊讶:surprise/astonishment/amazement
情境铺垫:“His first move was shaky, and the audience laughed”,用 “shaky” 呼应 Ryan 初次参赛的紧张,“audience laughed” 营造压力氛围,与原文中他 “heart raced as he registered” 的紧张情绪一致;e冲突展开:“In the final part, a difficult kick made him lose his balance and fall”,延续原文中 “repeatedly failing a spinning kick” 的 “失败” 线索,但此次 Ryan 的反应从 “frustration” 变为 “got up and bowed”,体现成长;
情感升华:“The applause rose for his unwavering spirit”,以观众的掌声为 Ryan 的 “坚持” 盖章,既符合 “honoring your journey” 的赛事理念,也为第二段的 “自我领悟” 埋下伏笔。
首句为 “Though Ryan did not win the tournament, he gained something far more valuable”,续写需先明确 “宝贵收获” 的具体内容(自我领悟),再通过行动展现收获的意义(影响他人),最终回归人物成长的核心。
领悟核心:“He realized that the power to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness was within him all along”,直接点出 “内在力量” 这一核心收获,呼应 Master Li “Strength begins with the courage to try” 的初始引导;
行动体现:“Ryan shared his story with his fellow students... encouraged them to embrace their own inner strength”,将个人领悟转化为实际行动,与原文中他 “applying Master Li’s lessons to his studies” 的 “学以致用” 逻辑一致;
影响升华:“Students started staying late to study and joining clubs they used to be scared of”,通过他人的改变,凸显 Ryan 成长的辐射力,让 “自我突破” 的主题更具深度,也让故事结局更温暖。
原文中 “struggled to keep up”“repeatedly failing”“frustration” 等 “困难” 类词汇,在续写第一段转化为 “shaky first move”“lose his balance”,既保持 “挑战” 的情节主线,又通过 “got up and bowed” 体现应对方式的变化;
原文中 “doubt his own abilities”“restless mind”“hesitation” 等 “消极情感” 词汇,在续写第一段变为 “fear”(turning his fear into action),但 “fear” 已不再是阻碍,而是转化为行动的动力;
第二段中 “quiet confidence”(原文)升级为 “realized the power was within him”“encouraged them to believe in their abilities”,从 “自我认可” 变为 “主动赋能他人”,情感层次更丰富。
参考范文中 “turning his fear into action”“kept going” 呼应原文 “A tree grows strongest against the wind”,体现 “在挑战中成长”;
“Fall seven times, stand up eight” 在续写中具象化为 “lose his balance and fall... got up and bowed”,让抽象哲理变为具体行动,增强故事的说服力。
参考范文第一段 78 词(含首句),第二段 76 词(含首句),结构均衡:第一段聚焦 “表演过程”,用细节(audience laughed/murmured/applause)推动情节;第二段聚焦 “领悟与影响”,用对话(“We all have invisible ability”)和结果(students stayed late/joined clubs)深化主题,无冗余内容。
情节线索上,续写第一段承接 “参赛”,写 “表演”;第二段承接 “表演结果”,写 “收获”,形成 “参赛 — 表演 — 收获” 的完整情节链;
情感线索上,续写第一段 “fear—turn into action” 承接原文 “hesitation—courage to try”;第二段 “realize power within—encourage others” 承接原文 “quiet confidence—honor journey”,让情感变化有迹可循。
视觉细节:“shaky first move”“pivoting smoothly”“lose his balance and fall”,让读者能想象 Ryan 表演的动作状态;

1.
At this time, a staff member came to me. He knelt down beside me with concern, checking if I was hurt. Seeing my determination, he offered some basic skating tips, demonstrating how to balance and push off gently. Grateful for his help, I carefully followed his instructions, holding onto the railing as I practiced small glides. His patient guidance gave me confidence, and soon, I was attempting to move forward without support, though still unsteady. The initial fear slowly faded as I focused on his advice — bending my knees slightly and keeping my arms out for balance.
As the day went on, I became more comfortable on the ice. Gradually, my movements grew smoother, and I could glide short distances without falling. The once-slippery surface now felt familiar beneath my skates. To my delight, I even managed a slow turn, drawing cheers from nearby skaters who had witnessed my earlier struggles. Their warm applause reminded me of their encouraging laughter when I had fallen — but now, it was admiration. A sense of pride swelled in my chest as I realized I had overcome my fear. What began as an overwhelming challenge had turned into a joyful success. Stepping out of my comfort zone had not only refreshed my mind but also proven that courage could turn the impossible into possible.

I remained bitter until one day, my father sat me down. Having noticed my sadness, he asked what was troubling me. I opened my heart to him, pouring out my frustrations about the rejections and my fears for the future. “I always thought I’d get into one of the good schools, Dad. Now I feel like a failure, like I’m not good enough.” After listening attentively for a while, my father gently reminded me of all my accomplishments — the countless projects I had excelled in, the teams I had led, and the awards I had earned. He concluded with a reassuring smile. “I understand how painful these rejections feel, but they are not a reflection of your worth. I know you have the strength to overcome this challenge, and I will he here to support you every step of the way.”
Deeply touched by his words. I began to assess my situation. My father helped me realize that dwelling on the rejections would only hinder me from reaching my full potential.True success is not defined by prestige, but by how we respond to life’s challenges. I stood face-to-face with my fear of heights. The realization that this was something I would have to do alone not only gave me some discomfort, but also a bit of pride. If I made it through the class, I would finish something in the face of my fear. As the instructor counted down, I took a deep breath and was pushed off the platform. The air rushed into my lungs. I lost awareness of time and space and let the force of the Bungee Jumping swing me up and down. I dropped onto the net tremblingly and began walking with my shaky legs. Finally, I made it!
My second round of Bungee Jumping went a bit more smoothly. My hands and legs didn’t shake anymore. Even at the moment of jumping off the platform, my eyes were open and I saw the water coming towards me directly. An inexperienced thrill filled my whole body immediately. While my fear of heights was still with me, this experience opened up a new way of seeing myself and approaching challenges. I became more open to trying new things. I’m more capable than my fears let me believe I am.

Hearing Momma’s words, Niesha stared at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. She pictured the scene where her mom tried her best to overcome her fears and gathered all her courage to deliver a fantastic speech to the audience. And Momma, aware of Neisha’s inner confusion and anxiety, reached out her hand to tie the blue ribbon onto Niesha’s wrist with a sweet smile, saying she would be with her all the time. Greatly touched and determined to find her courage, Neisha stood in front of the mirror, constantly practicing from pronunciation to tone and even each gesture. “Try harder, and I can make it!” she kept cheering herself up.
The next day Niesha again walked to the front of the classroom to give her presentation. Still shy and nervous, she customarily lowered her head to avoid making eye contact with others, numb there for seconds. But shortly afterwards, courage found its way back the moment she caught sight of the blue ribbon. Comforted and inspired, she took a deep breath, straightened her shoulders and then got started, “Dear fellow students, ...” While presenting herself, Niesha glanced at Mr. Roberts smiling at her and listening attentively. A spark of joy flashing across her eyes, she knew for sure that she had found her courage, in the mill and in the adversity.

The doctors suggested he return to college with scars of severe burns temporarily. Although I knew that there were going to be storms in life, it was hard for me to imagine that a handsome and sunny boy would return to his classmates with scars. I really didn’t know how to comfort him. After all, the scars were on him. Not all of us could be able to turn that particular page successfully. It was at this time that I remembered what my mother said to my sister. It was those words that enabled her to overcome her psychological barriers and lead a smooth life.
So I told him about Nancy’s childhood. I passed the wisdom on to my son. Realizing my complex feelings, he smiled and comforted me instead. He took my advice to heart and returned to school with his head held high. By the end of the six-month waiting period, he decided that the scars did not matter. So he made the decision to give up any plastic surgery. We all have “scars” that we believe will keep people away from us. Put your imperfections out of your mind and concentrate on what you value within yourself, and your beauty will shine through.

Then I threw myself into as many basketball opportunities as I could find. Every day, I insisted on running 10 kilometers and jumping ropes 1000 times after school to increase my energy level and physical strength. Additionally, I practiced passing, dribbling and shooting with my friends every day to improve my basketball skills. When the summer holidays came, I signed up for a basketball camp, where I got a lot of professional basketball knowledge and training from the coaches. Gradually, I found myself making great progress.
When I took part in the eighth-grade basketball tryouts, I was moderate, swift and strong. When on the court, I kept running without any trouble, dribbling freely and passing the basketball accurately. As long as I got the chance, I would try to shoot. One, two, three… I scored ten goals at last. There was no doubt that I succeeded in becoming a member of the basketball team. It was my determination and efforts that helped me achieve my dream.
