When you think about who’s responsible for a city’s safety, what people come to mind? Police officers, firefighters or emergency response teams? Would you put your local meteorologist (气象预报员) in this group? That’s the career Ashley Ruiz chose, and she’s now the first female chief meteorologist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ruiz predicts the weather for her community.
In 2020, a tornado hit Ruiz’s hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee — and, even closer to home, her house. So she said she knew what a lifesaving job this could be.
However, her job isn’t without difficulties. “Hearing people have been injured, like in a big hurricane, is really hard,” she said. “We try our best to predict the weather as best as we can, and we are getting better. But it can always change.”
Ruiz talked about the new and changing weather patterns. She said, “We are absolutely seeing changes in weather, with more intense and more frequent storms, which relate to climate change.” Weather is changing everywhere, as the planet warms. There are more frequent droughts, stronger storms, and increasing temperature changes. This makes predicting the weather difficult.
Ruiz always knew she was interested in weather and how it affected the world. But her path to a career in meteorology wasn’t easy. She said, “I struggled so hard with math and wanted to give up. But I kept pushing and working hard, and now I’m the first woman chief meteorologist in the Baton Rouge TV market. I’m proud of that.” She wants kids to know they should never give up on their education or their dreams.
4. Why was the disaster in Ruiz’s hometown mentioned in the text?
A. To call on people to prepare for disasters.
B. To introduce Ruiz’s unusual childhood experience.
C. To offer a successful example of weather forecast.
D. To show Ruiz’s understanding of the work of a meteorologist.
5. What is a challenge of predicting the weather according to the text?
A. Climate change. B. People’s injury.
C. Poor technology. D. Lack of experience.
6. Which word can best describe Ruiz according to the last paragraph?
A. Creative. B. Clever. C. Hard-working. D. World-famous.
7. In which section of a newspaper may the text appear?
A. Sports. B. People. C. Education. D. Health.
D 5. A 6. C 7. B

People who have trouble walking often have a hard time enjoying the beach. But hundreds of beaches in Greece now offer a new way for people in wheelchairs to get into the water by themselves. It’s called Seatrac.
Seatrac is basically a chair on a moving ramp (轻便梯) that can smoothly carry a disabled person into the sea. Once in the sea, the person can either remain in the chair, enjoying the water or go for a swim. The Seatrac system can also help anyone else who has a hard time walking, including older people and pregnant women.
Seatrac was invented and developed in Greece. The idea for it came when one of the inventors, Ignatios Fotiou, was talking with a friend who used a wheelchair. The friend said he enjoyed the sea, but didn’t like having to be carried into the ocean as if he were a sack (袋) of potatoes.
Mr. Fotiou realized that there must be a way to make it easier for wheelchair users to get into the water. Mr. Fotiou worked with his partner and a professor at a Greek university to design the system. In time, they formed a company called TOBEA to build and sell it.
The company worked hard to make the system simple to put in place and easy to run. A wooden walkway allows wheelchair users to reach the Seatrac. The system is solar-powered. It doesn’t require outside power and can continue to run even if the electricity goes out. The Seatrac system can easily be packed up and stored when the swimming season ends.
This summer, the Seatrac system is being used at over 220 beaches in Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Latvia. TOBEA hopes to offer Seatrac in other countries soon.
The Seatrac service in Greece is being offered for free. The Greek government has helped pay for it, with local cities buying and managing the equipment. Greece’s government hopes that Seatrac will help attract more tourists to the country.
8. Who is Seatrac designed for?
A. Older people who move freely.
B. Youths who like to swim in the sea.
C. Women who enjoy beach baths with their children.
D. People who have trouble moving around on the beach.
9. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The system. B. Potato. C. Ramp. D. Normal wheelchair.
10. What can we learn about the Seatrac system?
A. It’s not easy to operate.
B. Users don’t have to worry about charging it.
C. People need to have a big cost to use it in Greece.
D. It has been available at more than one thousand beaches.
11. Why does the Greek government help pay for the Seatrac service?
A. To improve the government’s image.
B. To promote the development of tourism.
C. To set up an organization for the disabled.
D. To support small and medium-sized local companies.
D 9. A 10. B 11. B
根据第一段“People who have trouble walking often have a hard time enjoying the beach. But hundreds of beaches in Greece now offer a new way for people in wheelchairs to get into the water by themselves. It’s called Seatrac.(走路有困难的人通常很难享受海滩。但希腊数百个海滩现在为坐轮椅的人自己下水提供了一种新方式。它叫做Seatrac。)”可知,希腊在数百个海滩为行动不便的人提供了自动操作的轮椅入水坡道系统 Seatrac。故选D项。
【9题详解】
词义猜测题。根据上文的“Mr. Fotiou worked with his partner and a professor at a Greek university to design the system.(福蒂欧和他的搭档以及希腊一所大学的教授一起设计了这个系统。)” 故选A项。
根据第五段中的“The system is solar-powered. It doesn’t require outside power and can continue to run even if the electricity goes out.(该系统是太阳能驱动的。它不需要外部电源,即使停电也能继续运行。)”可知,这个系统是太阳能驱动的,所以使用者不用担心它的充电问题。故选B项。
【11题详解】

Greece’s government hopes that Seatrac will help attract more tourists to the country.(希腊政府帮助支付了这笔费用,由当地城市购买和管理设备。
D
In late June, the US government agreed to allow two companies, Upside Foods and Good Meat, to sell chicken meat that has been grown in a laboratory. That makes the US the second country to approve lab-grown chicken.
Unlike normal chicken meat, lab-grown meat isn’t created by raising and killing chickens. Instead, it’s a meat product developed from animal cells that are grown in a lab. So it is also called “cell-based” or “cultured” meat.
The process of creating lab-grown meat is completely different from the normal meat-raising process. The first cells come from live animals. The cells are grown inside large steel tanks, where they’re fed with everything they need to grow. In a few weeks, the cells grow to look like normal meat. The companies then form this meat into more familiar shapes.
The companies say that their meat is better for the environment than meat from animals.
Raising animals for food uses huge amounts of land and water. It also creates a lot of pollution. Raising animals for food creates about 15% of the world’s greenhouse gases. That’s why cutting back on eating meat is one of the easiest ways to fight climate change. Lab-grown meat can also help out in other ways. Raising animals for food is extremely hard on animals. They are often kept in small spaces and are treated badly.
Polls (民意调查) have shown that many people aren’t too interested in lab-grown meat. Lots of people believe that it just sounds weird. But Amy Chen, who works for Upside Foods, says that once people try the meat, “The most common response we get is, ‘Oh, it tastes like chicken.’”
But right now, the meat is far more expensive than meat from animals. Even though the companies have been approved, they have the huge challenge of figuring out how to make much more meat far more cheaply.
12. What can we know about lab-grown chicken meat?
A. It is created from animal cells in a laboratory.
B. It is cheaper than the normal meat.
C. America is the first country to approve selling it.
D. Two companies are allowed to do research on it.
13. What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The necessity of eating normal meat.
B. The process of creating lab-grown meat.
C. The disadvantages of raising animals for food.
D. The similarities between lab-grown meat and normal meat.
14. What does the underlined word “weird” in paragraph 6 mean?
A. Easy. B. Ordinary. C. Strange. D. Attractive.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. Lab-grown Meat Is Outdated
B. What Exactly Is Lab-grown Meat?
C. How Is the Lab-grown Chicken Made?
D. Lab-grown Chicken Meat Is Coming
A 13. C 14. C 15. D
根据文章第二段“Unlike normal chicken meat, lab-grown meat isn’t created by raising and killing chickens. Instead, it’s a meat product developed from animal cells that are grown in a lab. So it is also called “cell-based” or “cultured” meat.(与普通的鸡肉不同,实验室培育的肉并不是通过饲养和宰杀鸡只来获得的。相反,它是一种在实验室中从动物细胞中培育出来的肉类产品。因此,它也被称为“细胞基”或“培养”肉。)”可知,实验室培育的鸡肉不是通过饲养和宰杀鸡只来获得的,而是从在实验室中培养的动物细胞中培育出来的。因此,我们可以知道实验室培育的鸡肉是由实验室中的动物细胞制成的。故选A。
根据文章第五段“Raising animals for food uses huge amounts of land and water. They are often kept in small spaces and are treated badly.(饲养动物作为食物会消耗大量的土地和水资源。
根据划线单词上文“Polls (民意调查) have shown that many people aren’t too interested in lab-grown meat.(民意调查显示许多人对实验室培育的肉类并不太感兴趣。)” 再根据下文“But Amy Chen, who works for Upside Foods, says that once people try the meat, “The most common response we get is, ‘Oh, it tastes like chicken.’”(但 Upside Foods 的Amy Chen表示,一旦人们尝过这种肉,“我们得到的最常见的回应是,‘哦,它的味道就像鸡肉。’”)”
根据文章第一段“In late June, the US government agreed to allow two companies, Upside Foods and Good Meat, to sell chicken meat that has been grown in a laboratory. That makes the US the second country to approve lab-grown chicken.(六月底,美国政府同意允许两家公司 Upside Foods 和 Good Meat 销售在实验室培育的鸡肉。这使得美国成为第二个批准实验室培育鸡肉的国家。)”以及全文内容可知,本文主要报道了美国政府同意两家公司销售实验室培育的鸡肉的消息,并详细介绍了实验室培育肉的相关内容。全文围绕“实验室培育的鸡肉即将上市”这一主题展开,因此最好的标题是D“Lab-grown Chicken Meat Is Coming(实验室培育的鸡肉即将上市)”。故选D。

【18题详解】
此处为本段的主题句,结合其它段落的主题句,此空应为祈使句,根据下文“It’s hard to get things done when you’re doing too many things at once. As you cross things off your to-do list, keep your mind focused on the task at hand.(当你一次做太多事情时,很难把事情做好。在你从待办事项列表中划掉任务时,保持你的注意力集中在手头的任务上。)”可知,本段建议一次只做一件事情,并且注意力集中在手头的任务上面,A选项“Concentrate on one task at a time(一次只做一件事)”为祈使句,且讲述的内容概括了本段的主题,适合作本段小标题。故选A项。
根据本段的小标题“Take short breaks so you don’t burn out.(休息一会儿,这样你就不会筋疲力尽。)”以及空前“A break allows you to recharge and come back to a task with a fresh viewpoint.(休息可以让你充电,带着全新的视角重新开始工作。)”可知,此处建议在工作期间要休息,这样不会让你筋疲力尽,结合空后的半句话“like drawing a picture, playing the guitar, or playing a game of chess on your phone.(比如画画,弹吉他,或者在手机上下棋。)”可知,此处应是与任务不相关的事情,G选项“Try to do something on your break that is unrelated to your task(试着在休息时间做一些与任务无关的事情)”与本段的主题吻合,且与空后列举的事情吻合,符合语境。故选G项。
根据本段小标题“Say no to extra projects if your plate is full.(如果你的日程已经排满了,就要学会拒绝额外的项目。)”及空后“Be realistic when agreeing to new responsibilities, keeping what you have to get done already in mind.(同意承担新责任时要现实一点,记住你必须完成的事情。)”

win… for… 故填for。
aim to do sth. 故填to bring。
detailed realism和its continuation of the tradition of Chinese rural literature为并列关系,需用连词and连接。故填and。

故填is divided。

This was the first time I’d formally let my son Charlie try to do something on his own. At six years old, he was always eager to prove he was a “big kid”. Whenever I encouraged him to try small tasks like ordering food, his bright eyes would light up with excitement.
On a sunny afternoon, we passed a corner café, and he suddenly said he wanted some water. I took a deep breath, fighting the desire to get it for him, and nodded, signaling he should go to the counter himself. I watched as he straightened his small body, slowly let go of the edge of his shirt, and took slightly hesitant steps forward — like a young bird gathering the courage to fly for the first time.
He stopped at the counter, small hands holding the cold surface tightly and tiptoes reaching as high as they could go. For the first few minutes, he looked back at me from time to time, smiling with pride, his eyes saying, “Look how good I am.” But just then, a woman talking on her phone pushed through the door, walked straight to his side, and didn’t even notice the little figure beside her. A moment later, a coffee shop worker, finally free from the rush, started to approach — when the woman suddenly stepped forward and quickly placed her order.
Sitting at a corner table, I felt my heart jump into my throat (嗓子). I saw my son turn to the woman, saying something so softly that it was hard to hear. The woman lowered her phone, eyes widening as she really saw him for the first time. “Oh, honey, I’m so sorry,” she said, stepping back. “You were here first. Go ahead.” Her voice softened, carrying real regret.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
The waitress smiled at my son and asked, “What can I get for you, young man?”
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As he went back, I stood and placed a hand on his shoulder.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
The waitress smiled at my son and asked, “What can I get for you, young man?” That’s when he raised his voice, his clear childish tone cutting through the café’s noise: “Excuse me, I’d like a glass of water. My name is Charlie, thank you, ma’am.” Each word landed with the weight of a small stone, firm and unshakable. The waitress’s smile broadened as she turned to the sink, filling a tall glass with fresh water and placing it gently in my son’s outstretched hands.
As he went back, I stood and placed a hand on his shoulder. “You did an amazing job,” I said. “Not just asking for what you needed, but doing it politely even when upset. That’s real grown-up behavior.” A small smile played on his lips, reaching his eyes. The water tasted sweeter, I could tell, from the pride in every drink. It was a small step, but I knew it would be the first of many brave ones to come.
