On Sunday, a group of thieves used a truck with a ladder on it to get into the Louvre museum in Paris. They then broke into display cases and stole several important items from the French crown jewels. So far, no one has been arrested.
The Louvre is the world’s largest and most popular museum. The museum is located in a huge palace in Paris that was once home to the kings of France. Today, it holds over 33,000 pieces of art, including the famous Mona Lisa. In the summer, the museum can have more than 30,000 visitors a day.
But on Sunday, the museum had the wrong kind of visitors. Around 9:30 in the morning, soon after the museum opened, thieves drove up to the building in a truck with a ladder on it. Two of the thieves used the ladder to climb to a second-floor balcony. There, they used an electric tool to break a window, and climbed into the museum.
The break-in set off alarms, but it also allowed the thieves into a huge, fancy room called the Gallery of Apollo. That’s where the Louvre holds a collection of French crown jewels – jewels that once belonged to the French royal family.
The museum had five people working in the area where the theft happened. The two thieves threatened the guards, who focused on making sure other museum visitors were safe.
The thieves broke the glass of two display cases and grabbed several of the crown jewels. These included a sapphire tiara (a piece of jewelry shaped like a small crown) with a necklace and an earring that went with it. They also took an emerald necklace, along with the earrings that went with it, as well as a second tiara that had belonged to Empress Eugénie.*
In about seven minutes, the thieves climbed back out of the museum, where two people were waiting for them with motor scooters. All of the thieves got away.
In their hurry to escape, the thieves dropped a crown with over 1,300 diamonds that had belonged to Empress Eugénie.
The police are still looking for the thieves, but so far, no one has been arrested. The police believe that the thieves were very skilled and had done similar crimes before. Experts say that police will have to work quickly, since the thieves are likely to break up the jewels into smaller pieces to make them easier to move and sell.
The theft is a big loss for France. The jewels were a symbol of France’s history and culture. French President Emmanuel Macron said the robbery was an “attack” on the history of France. He promised that the stolen items would be returned and that the people responsible would be punished.
Mr. Macron had planned to improve security at the museum, but the help came too late. The Louvre was closed on Monday and Tuesday, as museums across France were being encouraged to check their security.

The Mogao Caves of Dunhuang, a treasure house of art of China, has been spanning over 1,000 years. The art inside here covers more than ten major genres, such as architecture, stucco sculpture, wall paintings, silk paintings, calligraphy woodblock printing, embroidery, literature, music and dance, and popular entertainment. But all these only existed because of one man’s vision.
In 366 A.D., a monk named Le Zun looked across the river at dawn and saw a thousand Buddhas appear on the golden cliff face of Mingsha mountain along the old Silk Road. The caves were then built by monks and mostly sponsored by people such as wealthy merchants, foreign dignitaries, as well as Chinese emperors.
But when trade in the Silk Road stopped, Dunhuang was soon forgotten and eventually, the Mogao caves were abandoned. The site however was still used as a place of worship by the local people of the 20th century when there was renewed awareness in its presence once mere.
Most of the discoveries came from a Chinese Taoist monk named Wang Yuanlu who appointed himself as the guardian. The caves at that time were badly ignored, but Monk Wang recognized their value and instituted a program of restoration, funded by whatever donations he could gather.
He then made one of the great discoveries in Chinese archaeology (考古学): an amazing cache, of over 50,000 documents and paintings, which had been hidden in Mogao Cave #17. The cave #17 came to be known as the Library Cave, which was walled up sometime early in the11th century. A number of theories have been proposed as the reason for sealing the cave. One theory was that the cave had become a waste storeroom for precious, damaged and used documents and holy equipment and then sealed perhaps when the place came under threat. Another suggestion is that the cave was simply used as a book storehouse for documents which accumulated over a century and a half, then sealed up when it became full. Others suggested that the monks hurriedly hid the documents in advance of an attack by invaders.
1.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.The legend of Mogao Caves. B.The end of the old Silk Road.
C.The discovery of Mogao Caves. D.The development of the Silk Road.
2.What did Wang Yuanlu do to restore the caves?
A.He evaluated their value. B.He raised donations in different ways.
C.He sent guards to protect them. D.He persuaded government to do repairs.
3.What does the text come from?
A.Traditional culture. B.history book. C.biography. D.science fiction.
4.Why is Mogao Cave #17 considered a great discovery?
A.It used to be a library for monks. B.It stored valuable historical materials.
C.It had a history of over 1000 years. D.It was deserted for mysterious reasons.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.A 4.B
根据第二段“In 366 A. D., a monk named Le Zun looked across the river at dawn and saw a thousand Buddhas appear on the golden cliff face of Mingsha mountain along the old Silk Road. The caves were then built by monks and mostly sponsored by people such as wealthy merchants, foreign dignitaries, as well as Chinese emperors.(公元366年,一位名叫乐尊的僧人在黎明时分眺望对岸,看到千尊佛像出现在古丝绸之路沿线明沙山的金色悬崖上。这些洞穴是由僧侣建造的,主要由富商、外国政要以及中国皇帝等资助)”可知,第二段主要讲了莫高窟的传说。故选A项。
根据第四段中“The caves at that time were badly ignored, but Monk Wang recognized their value and instituted a program of restoration, funded by whatever donations he could gather.(当时,这些洞穴被严重忽视,但王认识到了它们的价值,并制定了一项修复计划,以他能筹集到的任何捐款资助)”可知,王元禄以不同的方式筹集捐款,从而来修复这些洞穴。故选B项。
根据文章第一段“The Mogao Caves of Dunhuang, a treasure house of art of China, has been spanning over1,000 years. The art inside here covers more than ten major genres, such as architecture, stucco sculpture, wall paintings, silk paintings, calligraphy woodblock printing, embroidery, literature, music and dance, and popular entertainment. But all these only existed because of one man’s vision.(敦煌莫高窟是中国艺术宝库,已有1000多年的历史。这里的艺术涵盖了十多个主要流派,如建筑、灰泥雕塑、壁画、丝绸画、书法木版印刷、刺绣、文学、音乐和舞蹈以及流行娱乐。但所有这些都是因为一个人的愿景而存在的)”以及后文可知,本文主要介绍中国文化瑰宝莫高窟,所以这篇文章应该出自中国传统文化专栏。故选A项。
根据最后一段中“One theory was that the cave had become a waste storeroom for precious, damaged and used documents and holy equipment and then sealed perhaps when the place came under threat. (一种理论认为,这个洞穴已经变成了珍贵、损坏和使用过的文件和神圣设备的废物储藏室,然后可能在这个地方受到威胁时被密封起来)”可知,莫高窟17号被认为是一个伟大的发现是因为它储存了珍贵的历史资料。故选B项。
【长难句分析】
【文章原句】Another suggestion is that the cave was simply used as a book storehouse for documents which accumulated over a century and a half, then sealed up when it became full.
that the cave was simply used as a book storehouse for documents…… which accumulated over a century and a half是定语从句。when it became full是时间状语从句。
Long-legged and fair-haired, the Barbie doll has become a symbol of children’s toys in the West. But more than 1,000 years ago, a doll that became popular in China was just as attractive.
Beijing silk figurines (北京绢人) are made from thin silk, gauze (纱罗) and damask (锦缎) and designed with detailed facial expressions. With their delicate craftsmanship and cultural meaning, the art of making them was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2021.
Jiao Tianqi, 30, has spent six years learning and preserving the craft. “For many, these silk figurines are just art pieces, but to me, they are like my children,” Jiao expressed.
Creating a silk figurine has complex steps, including designing, painting, making clothes and props (道具). “Each step requires the greatest patience and love,” Jiao added.
Before making a figurine, the artist must design it and make sure the head-to-body ratio is correct. “According to aesthetic standards, for a standing silk figurine, the head-to-body ratio is 1:7; for a seated position, it is 1:5,” Jiao said. But since most traditional silk figurines are 80 to 100 centimeters tall, every part is small. “A slight tremor (哆嗦) means starting over,” she said.
Because silk figurines often show noblewomen or characters from classic literature, artists try to express their cultural spirit.
“When making Wang Xifeng from Dream of the Red Chamber , we referenced the 1987 TV adaptation for her multiple hairpin (发簪) look to show her status as an important figure in the Jia family,” Jiao explained. “For Lin Daiyu, we reflected her identity as a dependent through her gestures, such as lowering her head and frowning.” This requires reading to understand the culture behind the characters.
Since making silk figurines takes time and effort, few continue the craft. “Due to expensive materials, silk figurines are costly, and we often don’t know if they will sell,” Jiao said. “Nowadays, people prefer quick money, so out of 100 people who come to learn, only one or two persist in carrying on the tradition.”
To address this, Jiao and her team work with people from all walks of life to raise awareness. They’re also exploring AI technology to make design and material analysis more accurate and affordable.
5.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about Beijing silk figurines?
A.Their special qualities and cultural importance.
B.What has made them so popular in China.
C.The step-by-step process of creating them.
D.How they differ from Western Barbie dolls.
6.According to Jiao, what is extremely important when creating silk figurines?
A.Curiosity and creativity. B.A basic sense of aesthetics.
C.Patience and passion. D.A strong team spirit.
7.Why does the author mention Wang Xifeng and Lin Daiyu in paragraph 7?
A.To present typical characters represented in silk figurines.
B.To stress the cultural significance of silk figurines.
C.To show how TV adaptations influence traditional art.
D.To illustrate how silk figurines reflect cultural characteristics.
8.Why do few people continue the craft of making silk figurines?
A.The materials are difficult to find.
B.They lack interest in classic literature.
C.They fail to recognize its cultural value.
D.High costs and uncertain sales discourage them.
【答案】5.A 6.C 7.D 8.D

根据第七段““When making Wang Xifeng from Dream of the Red Chamber , we referenced the 1987 TV adaptation for her multiple hairpin (发簪) look to show her status as an important figure in the Jia family,” Jiao explained. “For Lin Daiyu, we reflected her identity as a dependent through her gestures, such as lowering her head and frowning.” This requires reading to understand the culture behind the characters. (焦解释说:“在制作《红楼梦》中的王熙凤时,我们参考了1987年的电视剧改编版,为她设计了多个发簪造型,以显示她在贾家的重要地位。”“对于林黛玉,我们通过她的动作,如低头皱眉,来反映她寄人篱下的身份。”这需要通过阅读来理解人物背后的文化内涵。)”可知,作者提到王熙凤和林黛玉是为了说明绢人是如何通过细节设计来体现人物的文化特征的。故选D项。
8.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Since making silk figurines takes time and effort, few continue the craft. “Due to expensive materials, silk figurines are costly, and we often don’t know if they will sell,” Jiao said. “Nowadays, people prefer quick money, so out of 100 people who come to learn, only one or two persist in carrying on the tradition.”

Another suggestion is that the cave was simply used as a book storehouse for documents which accumulated over a century and a half, then sealed up when it became full.
that the cave was simply used as a book storehouse for documents…… which accumulated over a century and a half是定语从句。when it became full是时间状语从句。

Chinese textiles have a rich, remarkable history that stretches back millennia, telling 1 (fascinate) tales of their most ancient civilizations. Indigo (靛蓝色) is a vital part of this history. Natural indigo-dye (染色) has a long history in China, dating back to the Qin and Han dynasties, and indigo-dyed cloth 2 (use) as a main material for clothes for at least 1,000 years.
Here in Dali, 3 ancient ethnic Dong village 4 (situate) in the southern Chinese province ofGuizhou, making indigo cloth has long been a part of life, no less important to the Dong people than 5 (farm) rice. Even in this era of fast fashion, many Dong women still devote countless hours to making the dark, glossy cloth. The fabric must go through multiple 6 (procedure) before it can be used to create traditional Dong cotton garments — navy blue costumes with colourful flower trim for the women and plain indigo for the men.
However, these old craft skills have come under threat in recent decades. With youth drawn to China’s growing cities, few young Dong women are left in villages like Dali. Of those 7 remain, even fewer show interest 8 learning the labor- intensive techniques of indigo dyeing.
Hoping to save Dali’s folk traditions, provincial officials in 2011 9 (invite) in the Global Heritage Fund, a preservation organization based in California. It has begun working with Atlas Studio, a Beijing- based design studio, 10 (set) up a weaving and dyeing co-op (合作性商业机构) in Dali. The aim is twofold: to create opportunities to work closer to home and to persuade young Dong women to learn their time- honored traditions.
