V.Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead-in (5 Minutes)
1. Greet the students and start a discussion: "What digital devices do you use in daily life? How do they change your life?" Invite 23 students to share their answers.
2. Show pictures of traditional classrooms and future digital classrooms, and ask: "What differences do you find between them? What will schools be like in the future?" Guide students to predict the content of the model text and arouse their learning interest.
Step 2: Reading Activities (15 Minutes)
1. Predictive Reading: Distribute handouts of The Fun They Had. Ask students to look at the title and pictures, and predict the main content of the text (e.g., the school life in the future described in the text).
2. Fast Reading: Let students read the text quickly and answer two questions: ① What is the "old kind of school" mentioned in the text? ② What are the characteristics of the future school in the text? Check the answers to help students grasp the main idea.
3. Careful Reading: Ask students to read the text carefully and complete two tasks:
Underline core vocabulary and sentences describing future school life.
Analyze the text structure: What is the main content of the beginning, body and ending paragraphs? Summarize the threeparagraph writing structure (introduction of the topic → detailed description → personal feelings/expectations).
4. Language Focus: Highlight the infinitive as object complement in the text (e.g., "They wanted to know how to use the old machine"), explain its usage and give additional examples for students to practice.
Step 3: Prewriting Preparation (10 Minutes)
1. Group Discussion: Divide students into groups of 4 and discuss the topic "Digital Life in 50 Years". Guide them to brainstorm from aspects such as education, daily life and entertainment. Encourage students to note down creative ideas.
2. Outline Construction: Ask students to sort out the discussion results and complete the writing outline according to the threeparagraph structure. Provide a sample outline for reference:
Introduction: Briefly introduce the background of future digital life.
Body: Describe specific changes in 12 aspects (e.g., intelligent homes, online education).
Conclusion: Express personal views on future digital life.
3. Language Support: Display key vocabulary, sentence patterns and infinitive structures related to the topic on the screen to help students prepare for writing.
Step 4: Writing Practice (10 Minutes)
1. Assign the writing task: Ask students to write a short passage of about 80 words titled "Digital Life in 50 Years" according to the outline. Remind them to pay attention to logical coherence, correct use of language and writing norms.
2. Teacher's Guidance: Walk around the classroom to provide timely help for students who have difficulties in vocabulary or sentence structure.
Step 5: Evaluation and Summary (5 Minutes)
1. Evaluation Activity: Distribute writing evaluation forms. Students first conduct selfe-valuation based on criteria such as content completeness, structure clarity and language accuracy, then exchange works with deskmates for peer evaluation and put forward revision suggestions.
2. Sample Display: Select 23 representative works (including excellent works and those needing improvement) for classroom display, comment on them and affirm students' creative ideas.
3. Lesson Summary: Review the key points of this lesson, including the structure of descriptive writing, the usage of infinitive as object complement and the writing skills of future digital life. Encourage students to continue exploring the topic of digital life after class.
VI. Homework
