C. $600. D. $720. B Being incredibly talented doesn’t mean you’re untouched by anxiety, and many of the world’s best have to handle anxiety precisely because they expect so much from themselves. Take the world’s best soccer player named Mellionix. For all his brilliance, though, he’s famously anxious. For years, he habitually vomited (呕吐) on the field before big games. But Mellionix hasn’t allowed his anxiety to overshadow his brilliance because he’s mastered a coping mechanism that also doubles as the secret behind his tactical (战术的) brilliance. A soccer game lasts 90 minutes, with players active from the start. Mellionix is known for not engaging in the game initially, often walking near the field’s center and not interacting with teammates. While others run, Mellionix mostly walks, seldom accelerating beyond a slow jog. Mellionix does two things during these first few minutes. First, he calms himself. Easing into the match is Mellionix’s way of ensuring he’s fully engaged for the remainder of the match. His on-field vomiting has resolved itself, in part perhaps because he’s found a more effective way to calm his nerves. Second, he spends this time scoping out the opposition. His legs move slowly, but his eyes jump from player to player, assessing his opponents’ strengths, weaknesses and tactics. In football matches, Mellionix relies more on the preparation phase. In the classic match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, Mellionix only ran for four minutes, while for over eighty minutes he was walking. However, when he engaged in the game, he was active, creating nine opportunities, scoring a goal, and assisting his teammate to score another goal. That pattern isn’t unusual for Mellionix, and it’s often in big games that he lays great stress on his in-game preparation. That preparation also explains his ability to find himself in the right place at the right time, over and over. Though his positional play appears supernatural, it’s actually that he’s learned, minute by minute, that a particular defender leaves a particular square of pitch (球场) uncovered or that two midfielders leave a small corner of the pitch open when they run to the middle of the field. The lesson for us is clear: When you’re anxious, whether in athletics or in life more broadly, pause, and prepare. 4. What does Mellionix usually do at the beginning of a game? A. He doesn’t playin the game. B. He takes a walk around the field. C. He encourages his teammates. D. He takes an active part in the game. 5. Which of the following can replace “scoping out” underlined in paragraph 5? A. Following. B. Observing. C. Thinking about. D. Getting used to. 6. According to the text, when does Mellionix do his preparation for a soccer game? A. After the game begins. B. Before the game begins. C. When he feels anxious. D. When he lacks confidence. 7. What does Mellionix’s supernatural positional play indicate in paragraph 7? A. The time to pause. B. A chance to score a goal. C. The time to enter the game. D. The ability to overcome anxiety. C In department stores and closets all over the world, they are waiting. Their outward appearance seems rather appealing because they come in a variety of styles, patterns, materials, and colors. But they are eventually the biggest deception (欺骗) that exists in the fashion industry today. What are they? They are high heels ― a woman’s worst enemy (whether she knows it or not). High heel shoes are the downfall of modern society. Fashion myths have led women to believe that they are more beautiful or stylish for wearing heels, but in reality, heels succeed in creating short as well as long term troubles. Women should fight the high heel industry by refusing to use or purchase them in order to save the world from unnecessary physical and psychological suffering. For the sake of fairness, it must be noted that there is a positive side to high heels. First, heels are excellent for aerating lawns (草坪通气). Anyone who has ever worn heels on grass knows what I am talking about. A simple trip around the yard in a pair of those babies gets rid of all the need to call for a lawn care specialist, and provides the perfect-sized holes to give any lawn oxygen without all those messy blocks of dirt lying around. Second, heels are quite functional for defending against potential enemies, who can easily be scared away by threatening them with a pair of these sharp, deadly fashion items. Regardless of such practical uses for heels, the fact remains that wearing high heels is harmful to one’s physical health. Talk to any podiatrist (足病医生), and you will hear that the majority of their business comes from high-heel-wearing women. High heels are known to cause problems such as deformed feet and torn toenails. The risk of severe back problems and twisted or broken ankles is three times higher for a high heel wearer than for a flat shoe wearer. Wearing heels also creates the threat of getting a heel caught in a narrow sidewalk gap and being thrown to the ground ― possibly breaking a nose, back, or neck. And of course, after wearing heels for a day, any woman knows she can look forward to a night of pain as she tries to comfort her aching feet. 8. Women don’t take the disadvantages of high heels too seriously because of _______. A. their attempt to show off their status B. the rich variety of high heel styles C. their wish to improve their appearance D. the multi-functional use of high heels 9. What’s the author’s tone in presenting the positive sides of high heel shoes? A. ironic B. favorable C. sympathetic D. objective 10. The writer uses “those babies” (Paragraph 2) to refer to high heels _______. A. to show their fragile characteristic B. to show women’s affection for them C. to emphasize their small size D. to indicate their trendy appearance 11. It can be inferred from the passage that women should _______. A. refuse to buy the products of the fashion industry B. go to a podiatrist regularly for advice C. avoid following fashion too closely D. see through the very nature of fashion myths D Back in 2018, scientists at Duke University discovered that each time our eyes move, our ears make a squeaking (吱吱声) noise, which is hard or unable to hear. Now, the researchers have developed a method of telling where a person is looking by analyzing those sounds. Although we don’t consciously hear the noises, they can be picked up by a highly sensitive microphone placed in the ear canal. Lead scientist Professor Jennifer Groh believes that they may occur as eye movements trigger the brain to contract either the middle ear muscles or the hair cells — doing the former helps dampen loud noises, while doing the latter amplifies (放大) quiet ones. This arrangement could help us make sense of our surroundings, by automatically adjusting the sensitivity of our hearing based on what we’re looking at. In a recent experiment, Groh’s team and Professor Christopher Shera from the University of Southern California recruited 16 adults, all with good vision and hearing, to take a simple test. The volunteers started by visually tracking the movements of a green dot on a computer screen, without moving their heads. As they did so, an eye-tracking camera recorded the direction of their gaze, while microphones in their ear canals recorded their ear sounds. When the eye video and ear audio recordings were subsequently cross-referenced, it was found that eye movements in specific directions produced specific types of ear noises. The scientists were thus able to tell where a participant’s gaze was focused, simply by identifying what sort of noise “signature” their ears were making. It was also possible to do the opposite — the researchers could accurately tell what sort of sounds the volunteers’ ears were making, by tracking the direction of their gaze. It is hoped that the team’s findings will contribute to a better understanding of human perception (感知), possibly leading to more accurate and informative hearing tests. “If each part of the ear contributes individual rules for the eardrum signal, then they could be used as a type of clinical tool to assess which part of the anatomy in the ear is malfunctioning,” said Stephanie Lovich, one of the lead authors of the paper and a graduate student in psychology& neuroscience at Duke. 12 Why do the ear noises occur according to Professor Jennifer Groh? A. Some noises echo in the ear canal occasionally. B. The head moves too quickly along with the ears. C. A highly sensitive microphone usually causes the noises. D. The brain contracts muscles or hair cells with eye movements. 13. What potential outcome do the researchers anticipate from their findings? A. Creating a new type of hearing aid. B. Enhancing the design of microphones. C. Understanding human perception better. D. Replacing traditional vision tests with new technology. 14. What does Stephanie Lovich think of these findings? A. Complex. B. Promising. C. Faulty. D. Primitive. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. The human perception is complex. B. Eye movements lead to brain responses. C. Scientists know what your eyes talk to your ears. D. The evolution of hearing is discovered by scientists. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 To put into words my time in Antarctica and South Georgia is nearly impossible. I had always described it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. ___16___ I was not the only one who felt this way. About 50% of the passengers of our expedition had been to Antarctica at least once before. This goes to show just how magical the destination is. ___17___ How tiny you feel next to towering glaciers and icebergs. The blinding white blankets everything, blurring the boundary between land and ocean. The icy water moves through your body as you take the Polar Plunge. The solemn silence calms your restlessness and reminds you of heart-touching stories of survival from explorers of the past. The list goes on. Antarctica makes you feel so small and insignificant, in the best way. Everything has a purpose, and the cycle of life is evident. You get front row seats to witness the most incredible show: nature. ___18___ For example, when you see a brown skua (贼鸥) attacking a penguin chick, your heart aches. Then your expedition guide regretfully tells you that a chick that is small in March would have very slim chances of surviving the upcoming winter. ___19___ Things move fast here, every month offering something unique and special to see. In March, the weather is a bit more unpredictable, and the sea ice is beginning to form again. Our voyage was the last of the season. In two more weeks, expedition ships would not be able to break through the ice. The penguins are completing their yearly feather-changing process. They are really weak during this time, and cannot dive. ___20___ These animals, arguably the cutest you will ever see, survive such unfavorable environments. It’s absolutely incredible to witness the challenges, the skill, the efforts, all of it. I am forever grateful to have been a visitor. A. But that is not how it is. B. It is as much cruel as beautiful. C. I, years later, did return to this fascinating place. D. The cycle continues, and you’ re left wondering who to support. E. That all your senses will be stimulated is the best way I can describe it. F. But immediately I stepped foot on the continent I knew I needed to return. G. The expedition team made sure we kept our distance and did not scare them. 第二部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 完形填空 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 The headlines are everywhere: Americans have fewer close friends and spend more time online. She always wore a gentle smile and greeted everyone warmly. Her class was always full of laughter and questions, challenging them to think in a unique way. In one class, she introduced an unusual game called “The Traveling Note”. With a twinkle in her eye, she handed each student a blank sheet of paper and explained the rules, “Each of you is to create something — a quote, a story, a drawing, or a joke — that would inspire others to pass it on in our school. The note that travels the farthest and lasts the longest will be the winner.” The challenge immediately ignited (点燃) a spark of creativity and competition among students. Some students wrote profound quotes, believing wisdom would travel farthest. Others penned touching stories, hoping to stir emotions and ensure their note’s journey continued. A few drew beautiful pictures, while the class clown added humor with jokes. Someone even promised good luck for those who passed the note on. Each student was confident that their work would secure victory. Soon, it was time to submit the paper. To everyone's surprise, Emily, a shy but smart girl, handed in a blank sheet of paper only with a single line at the bottom: “Please add your own thoughts, drawings, messages, etc. in your own style to the note and pass it on.” All the classmates laughed at her, claiming her idea would be the first to fail. But Miss Brown just collected the paper and said nothing, a knowing smile spreading across her face. She distributed all notes randomly. Then, the passing began quietly, with each student handling the paper they received without knowing its origin. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Days passed, and the moment finally arrived. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Emily gathered her courage and walked up to the platform. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2023级高三第一学期阶段考试英语科试卷 2025. 9 (满分120分;考试时间120分钟) 第一部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分50分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题2. 5分,满分37. 5分) 阅读下列四篇短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A 【1~3题答案】 【答案】1.
