Temples have existed for thousands of years. They are the proof of cultures and civilization that existed many years ago.
Gobekli Tepe, Turkey
Located on a hilltop in southwestern Turkey where it snows a lot in winter, the Gobekli Tepe is considered the world’s oldest temple. It is nearly 11000 years old. There are carvings on the rock statues, mainly of lions, foxes, snakes, cranes and wild ducks, as well as scenes of people hunting. Because heavy snow makes it hard to get to the top of the hill, visitors are not recommended to go there in winters.
White Temple, Thailand
Immediately upon entering White Temple, you will realize this contemporary, unconventional temple stands out, even in a country dotted with temples. The White Temple is incredibly different and unique in its architecture, art and design. In fact, it is designed in a very modern way. This temple is all white. It is very hot in summer in Thailand, so going to White Temple in other three seasons is a wise choice.
Sagrada Familia, Spain
This symbolic Barcelona building is famously unfinished. It is said to be finished by 2026, but nobody believes it. However, visitors believe its incompleteness is part of its charm, which sets it apart from other temples in the world. You will have to wait in a long line if you visit Sagrada Familia in summer holiday. Visitors are not that many in spring and winter.
Kinkaku-ji, Japan
This temple is absolutely the most popular one in Japan. Whether you visit during the fall when there are red leaves against the golden wall, in winter when the gold is topped with pure white snow, in spring with cherry blossoms, or in summer allowing you to smell the earthy smell after rain—there is never a bad time to visit this beautiful temple.
21. Which temple will you choose to go if you are a fan of modern architecture?
A. Gobekli Tepe. B. White Temple.
C. Sagrada Familia. D. Kinkaku-ji.
22. What makes Sagrada Familia special according to the passage?
A. It is unfinished. B. It is all white.
C. It is the oldest temple D. It is untraditional
23. Which temple is favorable to go to all year round?
A. Gobekli Tepe. B. White Temple.
C. Sagrada Familia. D. Kinkaku-ji

Dr. Jane Goodall: A Lifetime of Discovery and Compassion
Dr. Jane Goodall, the renowned primatologist (灵长类动物学家) and conservationist whose groundbreaking work with chimpanzees (黑猩猩) transformed our understanding of the animal kingdom, passed away on 1 October 2025 at the age of 91. The Jane Goodall Institute confirmed the news, stating she died of natural causes while on her ongoing lecture tour in the United States.
Jane was born in London in 1934 and her love for animals began in childhood. Despite being told “you can’t go to Africa. You’re a girl,” her mother encouraged her, saying, “if you really want to, there’s nothing you can’t do.” This support fueled Jane’s dream of working with animals in Africa.
Jane’s approach was revolutionary. She gave the chimpanzees names like David Greybeard instead of numbers that they were previously called, and observed them with patience and empathy. For months, she made little progress but persisted. Her breakthrough came when she witnessed chimpanzees not only using tools, but also making them. This finding, which proved tool-making was not a unique human trait, forced the scientific community to reconsider its definition of humanity.
In the 1980s, alarmed by habitat destruction and declining chimpanzee populations, Jane transitioned from scientist to global activist. She founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 and later created the Roots & Shoots program in 1991, empowering young people worldwide to engage in environmental and humanitarian projects.
Even into her 90s, Dr. Goodall travels up to 300 days a year to spread hope and urge people to recognize that “every individual matters and has a role to play”. Her legacy is not just one of scientific discovery, but about compassion, perseverance, and the belief that one person can make a difference.
24. What was one of Dr. Goodall’s most important scientific discoveries?
A. Chimpanzees are the smartest animals in the world.
B. Chimpanzees are capable of making and using tools.
C. Chimpanzees can communicate by using human language.
D. Chimpanzees are strictly vegetarian (素食) animals.
25. What does the underlined word “revolutionary” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Traditional and widely accepted.
B. Slow and patient.
C Extremely new and life-changing.
D. Controversial (有争议的) and unpopular.
26. Which adjectives best describe Dr. Jane Goodall’s character?
A. Generous and responsible. B. Patient and outgoing.
C. Honest and respectable. D. Caring and determined.
27 Where would you most likely find this passage?
A. In a novel. B. In a letter.
C. In a blog. D. In a newspaper.

In the past, westerners were not familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), but now it is becoming globally popular. According to a government report, TCM has been introduced into 183 countries and regions around the world.
However, westerners only have a little knowledge of TCM. Their understanding of TCM may be limited to acupuncture(针灸), cupping and massage(按摩). For instance, the purple, injury-like marks left on a U.S. famous swimmer’s back from cupping to relax his muscles and reduce pain became the centre of attention during the Rio Olympics in 2016.
In fact, Chinese herbs(药草) play a more important role in curing diseases and keeping the body in good condition in the TCM treatment system than physical treatment. Therefore, it is disappointing to know that although 103 World Health Organisation member countries have given approval to the practice of acupuncture, not many recognise Chinese herbal medicine. TCM is much less popular than Western medicine partly due to the slow development of Chinese herbs.
Herbs can be made into pills, powder and soup. The kind of herbs used, their quality, quantity and the processing together determine the effectiveness of the prescription(处方). Compared with Western medicine, which has standardised drug production processes and treatment methods, TCM lacks standardisation. The chemical composition and functions of its medicine are still unclear and their effects are unstable. Fortunately, standardisation has improved in recent decades and a number of factories are increasingly producing patented TCM drugs.
Another reason why TCM prescription drugs have developed slowly is that it lacks creativity. While Western medicine-making companies come up with new products every year, TCM drug producers tend to make medicine according to prescriptions handed down from the past. That Chinese chemist Tu Youyou won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her research into malaria(疟疾)treatment may drive creativity to some extent in China’s TCM industry.
However, Rome was not built in a day. The current situation cannot be changed within a short time.
28. What does the example of an American swimmer in Paragraph 2 show?
A. Westerners know a little about TCM.
B. Cupping is a kind of important TCM treatment.
C. He was injured in his swimming.
D. TCM is very popular among westerners.
29. Why don’t some member countries of WHO recognise Chinese herbal medicine?
A. Chinese herbs can get rid of diseases.
B. They only approve the practice of acupuncture.
C. Western medicine is more effective.
D. Medicine made out of Chinese herbs develops slowly.
30. How does the writer feel about the future of TCM?
A Anxious. B. Negative.
C. Optimistic. D. Disappointed.
31. What is the best title of the passage?
A. The Effectiveness of TCM.
B. The Barriers to TCM’s Development.
C. The Weakness of TCM.
D. The Future of TCM.
D
“Is the glass half empty or half full?” This old English saying has long been used to tell a pessimist from an optimist. For most young people today, the answer is usually “half full”, because we have been taught that a positive attitude towards life is one of the primary keys to success.
However, is this necessarily a good thing? Recent studies indicate that it all depends. There is such a thing as too much positivity. It happens when someone remains in a happy and positive state and ignores any bad and negative emotions across all situations. But as a matter of fact, it is normal for us to experience any emotions. The death of a pet or loved one, a low score on a test, or a mountain of new homework should lead to emotions such as sadness, frustration and anger. If we hide these emotions just because we want to look optimistic in front of our friends and family, they can build up inside of us and end up erupting in unexpected ways. There is new evidence to suggest that many of these overly positive people are at a risk of developing drug or alcohol addictions as well as other psychological problems.
Aside from the personal emotional impacts, this attitude can also have a negative effect on the people around you. Imagine having had a bad day, and wanting to talk about it with your friend. However, instead of listening to your problems and sympathizing with you, they simply told you to “be positive” and give you the impression that your problems are being completely ignored. Just take everything as it comes and express how you really feel. This makes you human, and your true friends will always stick by you.
So my simple advice to you is to do what gives you the best “attitude” in life, whatever for you that might be. Regardless of whether a glass is half-empty or half-full, it nonetheless still has space to fill.
32. Why does the writer mention the glass at the beginning of the text?
A. To give some evidence. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To present an argument. D. To explain his ideas.
33. What is the writer’s attitude to the person who remains positive across all situations?
A. Negative. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
34. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A. The cause of overly positivity.
B. The prevention of overly positivity.
C. The bad effect of overly positivity on others.
D. The bad impacts of overly positivity on personal emotion.
35. Which of the following may the writer agree with?
A. Positivity is the key to success.
B. We needn’t stay positive all the time.
C. There isn’t such a thing as overly positive.
D. Positivity always does a harm effect to our lives.

Gabriel had always been fascinated by robots. His mother, however, did not think much of it. She often criticized him, urging him to focus on his schoolwork instead of those“ useless machines”, as she called them. She wanted him to spend more time on his books, and less time lost in the world of robotics. He, however, always worked quietly on parts, trying to create inventions that could solve everyday problems.
One day, Gabriel came back from school, bursting through the front door, holding a shining award in his hand. The gas detection robot he had built for months had just won first place in the regional competition. His heart raced as he imagined his mother would be proud this time.
“Mom! Look! I won!” he cried. His mother, standing at the kitchen counter, looked briefly. She sighed, “That’s nice, Gabriel, but I still don’t see what good it will do you. It’s not going to help you with your grades or get you into college. You need to focus on something more practical.” Her voice showed no interest. Gabriel remained quiet, determined to prove that what he was doing had value.
One evening, as the delicious smell of dinner floated through the house, an unexpected danger was quietly closing. Gabriel’s mother had been busy in the kitchen but had forgotten to turn off the gas. Unaware of the coming threat, she had wandered into the living room, settling down comfortably in front of the TV. The gas continued to escape, silently filling the air. The house was on the edge of a disaster.

【解析】
【详解】W: Good morning, everyone. This lesson is a part of our leadership series. Let me start by sharing a story of Richard Rochester, one of the most successful businessmen in Britain. Years ago, I was given a task of organizing a conference in the south of England. I chose a five-star hotel owned by Rochester as the venue. Susan, the receptionist, helped me arrange everything perfectly. Once when we were chatting, I asked Susan if she’d ever met Mr. Rochester. She said “Yes.” Shortly after Mr. Rochester bought the hotel, he made an appointment to see the hotel manager. When he arrived, the first person he met was Susan who was cleaning the carpet. He chatted with Susan for 30 minutes before keeping his appointment with the manager. He spent all day at the hotel talking with each member of the staff from the top guy to the lady who cleaned the toilets. Six months later, Mr. Rochester paid another visit. Susan had been promoted to receptionist, but he recognized her immediately and addressed her by name. He even remembered that she had a little girl and what her name was. Now I don’t believe that Richard Rochester has that good memory. He must have written a lot of notes after his first visit and read them over again before that second visit. It’s time-consuming, but it shows the importance he places on human relationships. I think that’s one of the secrets of his success.

C. Extremely new and life-changing.
D. Controversial (有争议的) and unpopular.
26. Which adjectives best describe Dr. Jane Goodall’s character?
A. Generous and responsible. B. Patient and outgoing.
C. Honest and respectable. D. Caring and determined.
27. Where would you most likely find this passage?
A. In a novel. B. In a letter.
C. In a blog. D. In a newspaper.

C
A. Anxious. B. Negative.
C. Optimistic. D. Disappointed.
31. What is the best title of the passage?
A. The Effectiveness of TCM.
B. The Barriers to TCM’s Development.
C. The Weakness of TCM.
D. The Future of TCM.
【答案】28. A 29. D 30. C 31. B
【解析】

【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“However, westerners only have a little knowledge of TCM. Their understanding of TCM may be limited to acupuncture, cupping and massage.(然而,西方人对中医知之甚少。他们对中医的理解可能仅限于针灸、拔罐和按摩。)”及下文美国游泳运动员的例子可知,这说明西方人对中医药了解很有限。故选A项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段最后一句“TCM is much less popular than Western medicine partly due to the slow development of Chinese herbs.(中医不如西医受欢迎,部分原因是中草药发展缓慢。)”可知,一部分原因是中草药的发展缓慢,中医药不如西药受欢迎。故选D项。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段最后一句“Fortunately, standardisation has improved in recent decades and a number of factories are increasingly producing patented TCM drugs.(幸运的是,近几十年来,标准化程度有所提高,许多工厂越来越多地生产中成药。)”
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. C 35. B

故填an。
【58题详解】

【答案】Ladies and Gentlemen,
I’m Li Hua. I am delighted to speak on the topic of “Technology and Learning” at the TECH TALK event.
Technology has developed rapidly and brought great effect on our learning styles. On the one hand, the Internet offers rich learning resources, making it easy to access knowledge anytime. AI tools even provide personalized guidance for learners. On the other hand, there are also some drawbacks. Some online information may be unreliable, and many students rely too heavily on technology, which weakens their independent thinking.
Based on the strengths and weaknesses of technology, we should use it wisely. It’s crucial that we learn to evaluate information critically and use technology as a tool rather than depending on it completely. By doing so, we can make the most of technology without losing our ability to learn actively.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节 (满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】Suddenly, a loud alarm rang through the house. Gabriel’s gas detection robot had sensed the leak and sprung into action. The shrill sound jolted his mother from her TV reverie, her heart pounding as she realized the danger they were in. Quickly, she rushed to the kitchen, turned off the gas, and opened all the windows to let the fresh air disperse the dangerous fumes. As the alarm ceased, she stood there, breathing a sigh of relief, suddenly understanding the significance of Gabriel’s invention. It wasn’t just a toy or a useless machine; it was a lifesaver.
Gabriel’s mother held the robot gently in her arms, waiting for Gabriel to get back from school. She couldn’t wait to tell him how his creation had prevented a potential tragedy. When Gabriel finally walked through the door, his mother greeted him with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. “Gabriel, you were right,” she said, hugging him tightly. “This robot isn’t just a hobby; it’s something that can protect us, make our lives safer. I’m sorry I didn’t see it before.” Gabriel’s heart swelled with pride and joy. From that day on, his mother became his biggest supporter, encouraging him to pursue his passion for robotics and recognizing the value of his inventions in making the world a better, safer place.
