As you exhale through your mouth, press your palms away. Make fists and inhale, pulling your arms back toward your chest. While doing this exercise, think about pushing away stress and pulling in calm. Repeat three times. Why this move: For some, physically acting out a desired emotional state — say, calm and steadiness — can encourage your brain to experience it. Your brain is not only sending out signals to the rest of your body; it’s receiving signals from you. ● BUILD INTENSITY Rock from side to side Plant your feet on the ground and gently bend your knees, relaxing your shoulders. Begin rocking at the pace of your thoughts. For instance, if your mind is racing, rock quickly. Then slow down your body as a way to slow your mind. Why this move: Rocking can calm the nervous system by creating a sense of predictable pace and steadiness in the body. ● COOL DOWN Sighs of relief and give yourself a hug Inhale through your nose, and as you exhale, let out a sigh. Repeat three to six times, allowing the sigh to lengthen and deepen each time. Then, embrace yourself and hold for at least 10 seconds. Why this move: Sighing can help to bring in calm by increasing your oxygen intake and lowering your heart rate. Wrapping your arms around your body can create a sense of personal safety. 1. What is the workout meant to do? A. Boost energy. B. Relax muscles. C. Relieve stress. D. Improve memory. 2. How can rocking from side to side calm you? A. By sending out signals. B. By taking in more oxygen. C. By lowering the heart rate. D. By adjusting body movement. 3. What can self-embrace achieve when you cool down? A. Balance in the body. B. Sharpness in the brain. C. A feeling of security. D. A mind of a faster pace. 【答案】1. C 2. D 3. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇应用文。文章介绍了几个有助于让大脑安静下来的方法。 【1题详解】 推理判断题。由● WARM UP中第一段“While doing this exercise, think about pushing away stress and pulling in calm. (在做这个练习的时候,想想如何摆脱压力,保持冷静)”,● BUILD INTENSITY中第二段“Rocking can calm the nervous system by creating a sense of predictable pace and steadiness in the body.(摇晃可以通过在身体中创造一种可预测的节奏和稳定感来平静神经系统)”及● COOL DOWN中第二段“Sighing can help to bring in calm by increasing your oxygen intake and lowering your heart rate.(叹气可以通过增加氧气摄入量和降低心率来帮助你平静下来)”可知,指出了通过一系列动作让练习者感受平静来达到减轻压力的目的。因此,运动旨在缓解压力。故选C项。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。由● BUILD INTENSITY中第一段“Begin rocking at the pace of your thoughts. For instance, if your mind is racing, rock quickly. Then slow down your body as a way to slow your mind.(开始以你的思维节奏摇摆。例如,如果你的思维在飞速发展,那就快速摇滚。然后放慢你的身体,以此来减缓你的思维)”可知,通过身体移动的节奏与思维的速度相匹配,然后逐渐放慢身体的速度,从而达到放慢思维的效果,因此通过调整身体运动来平静自己。故选D项。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。由● COOL DOWN中第二段“Wrapping your arms around your body can create a sense of personal safety.(用手臂搂住身体可以创造一种人身安全感)”可知,拥抱自己能带来个人安全感,因此在冷静下来的过程中,自我拥抱可以获得安全感。故选C项。 B Scientists report they have discovered water in materials collected during a Chinese moon mission. The water is in extremely small glass beads (珠子) that were found in the dirt where many meteorites (陨石) have hit the moon. The dirt was collected in 2020. Hejiu Hui of Nanjing University took part in the study, which was published recently in Nature Geoscience. Hui said the beads differ in size from the width of one hair to several hairs. The amount of water inside was extremely small. Since billions even trillions of these beads exist on the moon, there could be a large amount of water. But mining it would be difficult, the research team said. “Yes, it will require lots and lots of glass beads,” Hui said in an email. “On the other hand, there are lots and lots of beads on the moon.” The findings are based on 32 glass beads randomly chosen from moon dirt collected on China’s Chang’e 5 moon mission. More will be studied, Hui said. The beads are everywhere, which is the result of the cooling of melted material sent out by incoming space rocks. “This shows water can be refilled on the moon’s surface... a new water reservoir on the moon,” Hui said. The study’s findings raise the possibility that water could be removed by heating the beads in future robotic missions. Still, more studies would be needed to show whether such water removals are possible or if the water would be safe to drink. Earlier studies found water in glass beads formed by volcanic activity on the moon. Those studies used material collected on the moon by American astronauts more than fifty years ago. The American space agency NASA plans to put astronauts back on the moon’s surface by the end of 2025. The astronauts will aim for the south pole, where craters (坑) are believed to be filled with frozen water. 4. Why did the scientists believe that there could be a large amount of water on the moon? A. The beads are big in size. B. Billions even trillions of the glass beads exist on the moon. C. A reservoir has been found. D. Meteorites hit the moon hard. 5. What made the glass beads on the moon according to the Chinese research team? A. Robots from the earth. B. Volcanic activities. C. American astronauts’ activities. D. Fallen meteorites. 6. What can we infer from the passage? A. Researchers are expecting to find water on the moon. B. There is no way to remove water from the glass beads. C. The job of water removal can only rely on robots. D. Frozen water exists on the south pole of the moon. 7. Why does the author write this passage? A. To instruct us how water can be mined on the moon. B. To demonstrate how water is formed on the moon. C. To introduce the new discovery of water on the moon. D. To prove the glass beads on the moon contain water. 【答案】4. B 5. D 6. A 7. Supporting this exciting smart soil system is a hydrogel (水凝胶) material. In experiments, the soil containing hydrogel led to the growth of larger, healthier plants, compared to regular soil, all while using less water and fertilizer. The technology is also universal enough to be adopted across a wide range of climates, from dry regions to temperate areas. Agriculture today accounts for 70% of global freshwater withdrawals and up to 95% in some developing countries as our global population continues to rise. The U. N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) emphasizes the importance of improving irrigation (灌溉) efficiency, adopting water-saving technologies and promoting crops with lower water footprints to ensure sustainable food production and water resource management. Meanwhile, traditional farming methods, especially irrigation and fertilizing, face significant difficulties. As climate change intensifies and water resources become increasingly rare, the need for more efficient and sustainable irrigation practices has never been more urgent. Additionally, conventional fertilization techniques often result in too much nutrient exposure, reducing nutrient uptake efficiency and causing environmental pollution, and farmable land degradation. “The lack of water coupled with a growing population has an immediate impact on food security,” said Yu, professor of Materials Science in the Cockrell School. “This new class of hydrogels offers a solution to meet the pressing needs of water and efficient nutrient uptake in modern sustainable agriculture.” In experiments, plants rooted in the hydrogel soil saw a 138% increase in crop length compared to a control group in regular soil. And the improved soil can achieve 40% water savings, significantly reducing the need for frequent irrigation and ensuring strong crop development. This research builds on previous discoveries involving hydrogels that can pull water from the atmosphere and make farming more efficient. The project will continue, and the researchers’ next moves involve integrating different types of fertilizers and longer field tests. 8. What is special about the smart soil? A. It provides air to regular soil. B. It can absorb water from the air. C. It creates fertilizer with air. D. It can be used all over the world. 9. What is a challenge traditional farming methods face? A. The shortage of fertilizer. B. The lack of qualified seeds. C. The decrease of labor force. D. The inefficient irrigation methods. 10. What does Professor Yu think of the new system? A. It is impractical. B. It is simple. C It is time-consuming. D. It is far-reaching. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. Smart Soil Can Water and Feed Itself B. Hydrogel Will Take the Place of Soil C. Modern Agriculture Is Facing Drought D. Smart Soil Is Approved for Promotion 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. D 11. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一种新型智能土壤系统,这种系统使用了含水凝胶的土壤,从而可以用更少的水和肥料培育出更大、更健康的植物。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“A newly engineered type of soil can draw water out of thin air to provide plants with water and manage controlled release of fertilizer (肥料) for a constant supply of nutrients.(一种新型工程土壤可以从稀薄的空气中汲取水分,为植物提供水分,并控制肥料的释放,以保持养分的持续供应)”可知,这种土壤的特别之处是能够从稀薄的空气中汲取水分。故选B。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“As climate change intensifies and water resources become increasingly rare, the need for more efficient and sustainable irrigation practices has never been more urgent.(随着气候变化加剧和水资源日益稀缺,对更有效和可持续的灌溉做法的需求从未像现在这样迫切)”可知,传统农业方法面临的挑战之一是灌溉方法低效。故选D。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段Professor Yu所说的“This new class of hydrogels offers a solution to meet the pressing needs of water and efficient nutrient uptake in modern sustainable agriculture.(这种新型水凝胶提供了一种解决方案,可以满足现代可持续农业对水和有效营养吸收的迫切需求)”可知,这种新型水凝胶提供了一个很有前途的解决方案,可以满足现代可持续农业对水和有效营养吸收的迫切需求,因此是意义深远的。故选D。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“A newly engineered type of soil can draw water out of thin air to provide plants with water and manage controlled release of fertilizer (肥料) for a constant supply of nutrients.(一种新型工程土壤可以从稀薄的空气中汲取水分,为植物提供水分,并控制肥料的释放,以保持养分的持续供应)”提出了一种新型土壤,这种土壤可以从空气中汲取水分,并能控制化肥的用量。然后文章通过与普通土壤的对比介绍了新型土壤的优势。由此可知,本文主要介绍了一种可以自动浇水和施肥的智能土壤,所以A项“智能土壤可以自我浇水和喂养”为本文最好的标题。故选A。 D A tropical cyclone is an intense circular storm that originates over warm tropical oceans and is characterized by low atmospheric pressure, high winds, and heavy rain. Drawing energy from the sea surface and maintaining its strength as long as it remains over warm water, a tropical cyclone generates winds that exceed (超过) 119 km per hour. In extreme cases, winds may exceed 240 km per hour, and gusts may exceed 320 km per hour. Accompanying these strong winds are heavy rains and a shocking phenomenon known as the storm surge (风暴潮), an elevation of the sea surface that can reach 6 meters above normal levels. Such a combination of high winds and water makes tropical cyclones a serious danger for coastal areas in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Every year during the late summer months (July-September in the Northern Hemisphere and January-March in the Southern Hemisphere), tropical cyclones strike regions as far apart as the Gulf Coast of North America, northwestern Australia, eastern India and Bangladesh. Tropical cyclones are known by various names in different parts of the world. In the North Atlantic Ocean and the eastern North Pacific they are called hurricanes, and in the western North Pacific around the Philippines, Japan, and China the storms are referred to as typhoons. In the western South Pacific and Indian Ocean they are variously referred to as severe tropical cyclones, tropical cyclones, or simply cyclones. Tropical cyclones are circular storms, generally about 320 km in diameter, whose winds swirl (旋转) around a central region of low atmospheric pressure. The winds are driven by this low-pressure core and the rotation (转动) of Earth, which deflects (使转向) the path of the wind through a phenomenon known as the Coriolis force. As a result, tropical cyclones rotate in a counterclockwise (逆时针) direction in the Northern Hemisphere and in a clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere. 12. Where does the energy of a tropical cyclone come from according to the passage? A. Atmospheric pressure. B. Strong winds. C. High temperatures. D. Sea surface. 13. What may happen to Bangladesh in August and September every year? A. It may enjoy pleasant weather of late summer. B. It may go through extremely long severe drought. C. It may suffer from disasters caused by tropical cyclones. D. It may enjoy the growth of the tourism industry. 14. What does the underlined word “elevation” mean in the passage? A. Height. B. Width. C. Speed. D. Energy 15. Which column of a newspaper does this passage belong to? A. Wildlife. B. Nature. C. Culture. D. Entertainment. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. A 15. At that time, my mother was a preschool teacher and also one of the volunteers for children’s services in the community. She not only loved me, but also loved every child in our community. She always believed that loneliness does not belong to children, and playing together can develop a healthy state in children. Therefore, she always tried her best to bring me along to participate in these various fun activities for children. We children chased on the lawn (草坪), played hide-and-seek games, and played various animal games. We burst into excited shouts. Our joyful laughter was everywhere, and every time we didn’t want to be separated, we looked forward to the next time like this coming again quickly. Looking back now, this is the most unforgettable period of my childhood. One sunny afternoon, when we were playing outside, one of my friends brought a visiting relative, who clung to (紧紧抓住) his cousin like a shadow, eyes wide with nervousness. The unfamiliar boy immediately caught our attention, and we gathered around to observe him, teasing (逗弄) him to speak. That boy was very shy, with his head down and a red face. He had a speech impediment (障碍) and couldn’t get his mouth to cooperate. He couldn’t even say the name of the town where he lived. I had never seen someone stutter (结巴) like that. I thought he must have been joking, so I laughed. My friend shot me a concerned glance, but my giggles (咯咯笑) continued. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my mother looking at me with an expression that I’d never seen before. It was a mix of horror, anger, and shame, all focused on me, which stopped my laughing instantly. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 She waved me over with seriousness that left no room for hesitation. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With trembling (颤抖的) steps, I approached the boy and gave him an awkward hug. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 She waved me over with seriousness that left no room for hesitation. She told me how wrong it was to laugh at someone’s struggle, and how there was never an excuse for such behaviour. She asked me to apologize to the boy, give him a hug, and tell him that I love him. My heart sank, a mix of regret and fear of my peers’ judgement eating away at me. But my mother’s look, a silent yet powerful force, left me no other option. Turning around, I saw the boy. Obviously, he heard my mother’s criticism of me. He stared closely at me, wanting to know what I was going to do next. With trembling (颤抖的) steps, I approached the boy and gave him an awkward hug. I think I shocked him by grabbing him like that, but when he realized that I was trying to hug him, his body relaxed and he hugged me back. “Uh... also, uh... I love you...” I half-smiled as I spoke. I was still hugging the boy, so he couldn’t see the unnatural look on my youthful face. But then the boy hugged me tighter and whispered in my ear sincerely, without a stutter and without hesitation. “I love you, too!” There was such softness and firmness in his voice, and just like that, I thought I would start crying. 词汇激活 行为类 ①抓住:grab/clutch/grasp ②道歉:apologize/say sorry/make an apology ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①真诚:sincerely/genuinely ②坚定:firmness/determination/resoluteness 【点睛】【高分句型1】She asked me to apologize to the boy, give him a hug, and tell him that I love him. B Scientists report they have discovered water in materials collected during a Chinese moon mission. B There is no way to remove water from the glass beads. C A newly engineered type of soil can draw water out of thin air to provide plants with water and manage controlled release of fertilizer (肥料) for a constant supply of nutrients. C. It is time-consuming. D. It is far-reaching. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. Smart Soil Can Water and Feed Itself B. Hydrogel Will Take the Place of Soil C. Modern Agriculture Is Facing Drought D. Smart Soil Is Approved for Promotion D A tropical cyclone is an intense circular storm that originates over warm tropical oceans and is characterized by low atmospheric pressure, high winds, and heavy rain. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 One of the most feared situations in the world is the nerves before a game. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
