not turn 19 years old before July3l.(你在2025年6
1"Early Application and Priority Financial Aid
Application and Priority

amateur radio license when a World War II ban on
hobby radio forced him to redirect his efforts to

his mind wandering to a device he had seen at a trade
fair:the Minifon,a German device that was marke-
ted as the first pocket recorder. The device was in-
tended for businessmen, but Warren began thinking
how useful it would be for airplanes.(沃伦发现自己

根据第四段中的“According to a
1998 account by Warren, civil authorities said that
'Dr.Warren's instrument has little immediate direct

根据第三段中“Since late20l8,a
solar-powered drone has been used to monitor the
migration herds.'The solar-powered drone has a
long flying time with high-resolution cameras, which

"To clear the way for the Tibetan antelopes, the
government of the Tibet has taken action in recent
years to give more protected space to wildlife.
way for the Tibetan antelopes”可知,牧民设置的保
根据第四段“To clear the way for
the Tibetan antelopes, the government of the Tibet

)to fire specially designed seed pods()into the
ground-at 10 times the normal rate and costing 20
percent less than traditional methods..(使用无人机

the clever cashier immediately nodded knowingly,wink-

When she turned back and was about to leave, she
found the extra bag in her cart. She looked at my mom
in surprise."How can I accept this?"she said,handing
it to my mother."It's nothing. That's what all of us
should do,"my mom replied warmly and firmly.Seeing
all this, people around her began to persuade her to take
back these items.Finally,with everyone's help,she took
the bag in tears. It was at that moment that I realized we
make a living by getting, but we make a life by giving.

David Warren, born in 1925,had great interest in science and engineering from child-
hood, and was studying for his amateur radio license when a World War II ban on hobby
radio forced him to redirect his efforts to chemistry sets.He went on to earn a B.S.from
the University of Sydney and a Ph.D.in chemistry from Imperial College London. He then
spent three years as a science officer at the Woomera Rocket Range, before joining the
Aeronautical Research Laboratories (ARL).
In 1953,the ARL assigned him to a panel investigating two crashed of airplanes.War-
ren found his mind wandering to a device he had seen at a trade fair:the Minifon,a Ger-
man device that was marketed as the first pocket recorder. The device was intended for bus-
inessmen, but Warren began thinking how useful it would be for airplanes.
But when Warren described his new idea to his boss,he showed no enthusiasm. In
1955,he got a new boss named Tom Keeble,to whom he promoted the idea again.Keeble
told Warren to outline specifications for a prototype().The ARL contracted with The-
on "Tych"Mirfield,a Melbourne-based instrument maker,to build the first working pro-
totype,which was completed in 1958.
The response to the prototype was depressing.According to a 1998 account by War-
ren, civil authorities said that "Dr.Warren's instrument has little immediate direct use in
airplanes."That critical reception might have affected the flight recorder. But Robert Har-
dingham,Secretary of the U.K.Air Registration Board, happened to see the prototype on
an informal visit to the ARL,and he was so impressed that he arranged for Warren to fly
to England to demonstrate it.
Back in Australia, the ARL assigned Warren a team to update the prototype. The
ARL system itself was never patented and never went into production, but the British firm
of S.Davall &Sons approached the ARL for the production rights. The Davall "red egg"
accident recorder eventually won a large share of the flight data recording market.
24.What did Warren do according to Paragraph 1?
A.He gained a Ph.D.from the University of Sydney.
B.He showed interest in chemistry during childhood.
C.He gave up his hobby due to a wartime ban.
D.He worked as a science officer at the ARL.
25.What inspired Warren to develop his flight recorder?
A.A German-designed machine for businessmen.
B.A battery-powered device for airplanes.
C.The two crashes of airplanes.
D.The science fair of the ARL.
26.What was civil authorities'attitude toward Warren's flight recorder?
A.Positive.
B.Unfavorable.
C.Contradictory.
D.Unclear.
27.What do we know about Warren's prototype?
A.It was patented by the ARL in 1958.
B.It was designed by Theon“Tych”Mirfield.
C.It was updated by Robert Hardingham.
D.It was mass-produced by a British company.

Every year from May to July, tens of thousands of Tibetan antelopes from regions in
Qinghai,Tibet autonomous region, and Xinjiang autonomous region make their way to
Hoh Xil nature reserve in Qinghai to give birth. The mothers and newborn Tibetan ante-
lopes make the return trip around August.
This journey is rather tough.More than 90 percent of the female animals give birth ev-
ery year, but only about 30 percent of the newborns survive. Many of them die on the re-
turn journey, unable to withstand the predators(捕食性动物)and disease,.The government
has adopted some high-tech methods to assist in the safe return of newborn antelopes and
protect the species.
In 2013,with the help of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, researchers discov-
ered and confirmed the largest Tibetan antelope "birth room"on the Qinghai-Tibet Plat-
eau,and they mapped the migration routes of Tibetan antelopes.Since late 2018,a solar-
powered drone has been used to monitor the migration herds."The solar-powered drone has
a long flying time with high-resolution cameras, which gives us a new understanding of
many specific routes during the migration of Tibetan antelopes,"said Wu Xiaomin,an ex-
pert from the Shaanxi Institute of Zoology."For example, the nomads(put fences on
the grassland to protect the grass, but sometimes these hinder the normal activity of the
Tibetan antelopes..”
To clear the way for the Tibetan antelopes, the government of the Tibet has taken ac-
tion in recent years to give more protected space to wildlife. They relocate nomads from
places at altitudes above 4,800 meters to other places in the region.
Known as "plateau elves",Tibetan antelopes have adapted to the unique and severe
natural conditions of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.According to Wu,the Tibetan antelope is
recognized as an important indicator species of the natural ecosystem.
The population of Tibetan antelopes has grown."With a recorded low population of fe-
wer than 20,000 in Qinghai, the number has now reached over 70,000,"said former Qing-
hai governor Xin Changxing at an event to mark World Environment Day.
28.What can we learn about Tibetan antelopes?
A.They travel to Hoh Xil to find partners.
B.Only 30 percent of them give birth every year.
C.Their yearly trip to Hoh Xil takes about one month.
D.The newborns are threatened by diseases and predators.
29.What is the solar-powered drone mainly used for?
A.Locating the Tibetan antelope "birth room".
B.Recording Tibetan antelopes'daily activities.
C.Watching over the migrating Tibetan antelopes.
D.Mapping the migration routes of Tibetan antelopes.

Deforestation-by clear-cutting or wildfires-has massive consequences both on cli-
mate and health. But leaving reforestation to Mother Nature can take decades, particularly
as disastrous wildfires are increasing in frequency and intensity. And the time, cost and la-
bour involved make traditional methods of tree planting not as practical as they once were.
Bryce Jones knows how hard it is to replant forests. For four months in 2013,he
worked as a tree planter throughout Canada."There's no technology there,"he says.
"The only way you can automate reforestation is through the air.But it wasn't until 2019
that he hit on the one that he thought had potential:use drones()to fire specially
designed seed pods()into the ground-at 10 times the normal rate and costing 20 per-
cent less than traditional methods. He proposed the idea to his brother and Flash Forest
was born. His first goal was to plant a billion trees by 2025.
The team took out a loan, bought a drone and used 3D printers at Jones's school to
make casts of the pods. Now,only two and a half years later, the company has a group of
drones with each able to carry several thousand pods per flight.Three operators work in a
field,controlling five drones,whose flights take 15 to 20 minutes.Flash Forest's big draw
is its seed pod, which contains everything seedlings()need to promote survival. And
its technology allows them to reach post-burn sites or remote areas that are difficult for tra-
ditional tree planting.
There are challenges every day,Jones says,as they work to improve the engineering,
hardware, software and seed-pod recipes. Then there are the challenges presented by the
climate-this year,record temperatures,record wildfires and drought."That is something
that is totally out of our control,"he says.
Unlike some traditional forms of reforestation,Flash Forest is focused on biodiversi-
ty.For Jones, the target of planting a billion trees by 2025 is just the beginning."I have a
dream that the company will plant on six continents-everywhere where our technology is
needed,”he says.
32.What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 1?
A.The benefits of reforestation.
B.The power of Mother Nature.
C.The way of putting out wildfires.
D.The urgency to seek a planting way.

A.Its drone operators.
B.The frequent flights.
C.Its seed pod.

Being "outdoorsy"can stir up images of big beautiful national parks, snowy slopes or
thick forests.36 They don't require the time, money or physical mobility of a big trip.
Here are some steps you can take to get closer to nature.
Think of time in nature as a "multivitamin"-it's best to take it every day.37 If
you're spending hours staring at a computer screen, you might feel pretty exhausted after-
ward. But if you get breaks or even micro restorative moments by getting outside, you re-
cover some energy to use that mental muscle so you can do things that are hard to do.
Find the people who enjoy the same activities. It takes some of the pressure off trying
to explore the outdoors alone.38 In a world where we're constantly flooded with ima-
ges of what an "outdoorsy person"should look like, finding your people might feel like a
challenge.
39 You can bring the outdoors into your world. We are a part of nature, and na-
ture is a part of us-regardless of where we are.
Need a quick break from your "work screen time"for some "fun screen time"?There's
a nature fix for that:Check out the Find That Lizard game on your phone, where you have
to find a lizard camouflaged(in its natural environment.40 You can barbecue in
your yard or the park,or open a window to get some fresh air. These are great options if
you're living in a city,or if you're on a budget.
A.Trying to get off screens?
B.Needing a low-budget outdoor break?
C.So nature is actually what you need to function well.
D.But smaller moments in nature have been just as valuable.
E.It's also an important way to stay safe in more remote areas.
F.Getting your daily amount of nature is vital to your well-being.
G.Remember, you don't have to be outdoors to experience nature.

The items in her cart included the cheapest cuts of meat and meal like pasta, rice, and

back.
"They've become so expensive, haven't they?"Mom said in a low voice.
“Next!”The cashier called and she moved forward.
When the store employee finally added up everything and told her the cost, the
woman's face paled. It was obvious that she didn't have enough money, and she scanned
her items to see what she could do without.
One by one,she removed things, but she still came up short. She continued to take

The child's items remained in the cart, however. In fact, the palm of her other hand
lay protectively across them,as if she didn't want to give in.
The woman finally paid, and moved down to bag them.
When our turn came,Mom pointed to the pile of items the woman had taken out,add-
