A group of journalists set out for the polar area. They came to a fascinating valley near the boundary, where they would camp. The north wind was buffeting the cloth of their tent. At the edge of the valley, they found a small cottage. A visible glacier from the top of the mountain flowed through the valley. The vast territory stretched as far as the eye could see. A lot of reindeer were on the move, accompanied by some local people to prevent leopards from hurting them. Hunting was banned here. All the journalists felt really blessed to be in such a beautiful place. Nevertheless, there was only one unpleasant thing. A woman journalist had a cold and sneezed all the time. The cream she had put in the teapot turned sour, too. She turned the teapot upside down and poured out the sour cream.
1.新闻记者
I was wandering along the corridor of the amusement park. A splendid fountain ahead appealed to me. Behind it was the superb aquarium. I pedaled a bicycle along the original route to visit the aquarium. I was very much amused to see some adorable fish swimming and an enormous whale on display. There were up to20,000 fish there. Then I visited a pirate ship, had a swing with some children and took a ride on the roller coaster. In this park, there were many entertainments that aroused my strong appetite. I could watch fashion shows, iron workshops, and a rare steam engine. That was an incredible theme park that appealed to everyone. After the visit,my teacher asked me to describe the park with adjectives and imperative sentences, then to label these adjectives and put them in the left column.

From Jasper, they caught the train towards Toronto. One of the train's first stops was in Edmonton, the provincial capital of Alberta, the centre of Canada's huge oil and gas drilling industry. Edmonton is ___17___(freeze) cold in winter, with daily temperatures averaging -10C. Since it can be too cold ___18___ (go) outdoors, Edmonton is home ___19___ many shopping malls. In fact, one of the largest shopping ___20___ (mall) in North America is in Edmonton.
From Edmonton, the train headed southeast across the great Canadian Prairie. At school, Daiyuand Liu Qian had learnt that Canada's population is only slightly over thirty-seven million. However, they did not anticipate ___21___ (see) such an open country, and were truly ___22___ (amazed). They went through two wheat-growing provinces, ___23___ they saw a bunch of farms that covered a very large area.
After another day on the train, ___24___(eventual) they were back in ___25___urban area, the city of Winnipeg. From there, they travelled through the night, and woke up in Ontario--a land of forests and lakes. The train thundered on, through the ___26___ (roll) hills. The bushes and maple trees outside their windows were red, gold, and orange, and there was frost on the ground, ___27___ (confirm) that autumn had arrived in Canada. Night came again, and the train turned south towards Toronto.
When they ___28___ (wake) up the next morning and pulled back the curtain, they could see the wide stretch of Lake Huron-one of the four Great Lakes on Ontario's southern border. Dear Wang Hai,
Pleased to learn that you are going to study in Canada, I’d like to share with you something about it.
As far as I’m concerned, 1. Canada is the world’s second largest country (加拿大是世界第二大国), 2. covering an area of about 9.98 million square kilometers (占地面积约为998万平方千米).In addition,it has the largest number of lakes which provide Canada with more fresh water than any other country in the world. 3. Despite the fact that the climate there is different from area to area (尽管气候地区差异大),it is generally cold with long winters. Thus,I suggest that you choose to study in Vancouver, 4. where the scenery is spectacular and the tuition is lower (那里风景壮丽,学费较低).Contrary to most cities in Canada, Vancouver, 5. surrounded by high mountains and the Pacific Ocean (被大山和太平洋环抱),is Canada’s warmest city.
Yours,
Li Hua
