After his baby son lost an eye to retinoblastoma, a type of eye cancer, Bryan Shaw was resolved to help prevent others from experiencing the same heartbreak.
Like many new parents, Bryan and his wife, Elizabeth, began taking countless photos of their son, Noah, from the moment he was born. When Noah was three months old, Elizabeth noticed something strange in his photos. While the flash created the usual red reflection in one eye, the other eye showed a white spot, as if something was wrong.
Concerned, Elizabeth took Noah to their pediatrician(儿科医生), who examined him and saw the same white reflection. She quickly referred them to an eye specialist. A white reflection instead of a red one can indicate retinal cancer, and unfortunately, that was the diagnosis for Noah. He underwent several months of chemotherapy and radiation, but the doctors could not save his eye.
Bryan, a chemistry professor at Baylor University, looked back over thousands of Noah’s baby pictures. He discovered that the first white spot appeared in a photo taken when Noah was just 12 days old. As Noah grew, the white spot appeared more often.
Although it was too late to help Noah, Bryan wanted to use his knowledge to benefit others. He built a database to record cancer-related features observed in the collected photographs. He also gathered images from eight other children diagnosed with retinoblastoma. With this information, Bryan teamed up with computer science colleagues at Baylor to develop a smartphone app that scans users’ photo libraries for white reflections in the eyes, acting as a kind of eye examination tool. This app, called White Eye Detector, is now available for free on App Stores.
“I told myself that I had to do this,” Bryan explained. “This disease is hard to detect. This software could save not only vision but also lives.”
24.What can be learned about Noah's condition from paragraphs 2 and 3?
A.It was totally ignored. B.It worsened as he grew.
C.It remained unchanged over time. D.It arose from much flash exposure.
25.Why did Bryan develop White Eye Detector?
A.To ease patients’ suffering. B.To improve his son’s eye condition.
C.To reduce the occurrence of the disease. D.To help identify early signs of the cancer.
26.What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.The application of the app. B.The philosophy behind the app.
C.The process of designing the app. D.The technical support for the app.
27.Which of the following best describes Bryan?
A.Strict and demanding. B.Humble and ambitious.
C.Humorous and creative. D.Generous and determined.

The printed book is back. Recent studies have shown that students keep in mind more information when they read a hard-copy book compared to reading on a digital device.
I love the way we now judge printed books using the language of the digital world. E-books may come with a “suite of guiding tools”, but it turns out that the best guiding devices are your fingers. You can use them to look through the pages forwards and backwards. To think, all this time, those devices have just been sitting there, hanging at the end of your arm.
Fans of digital books may point out that e-readers have a handy “search” tool. Old-fashioned books also have a search function, in which you turn back to the opening chapter to remind yourself of the hero’s description. They even have a “bookmark system”, which uses a device called a “bookmark”.
Fans of the e-book point out that digital text is easy to annotate. Some devices even feature a little image of a pencil to guide the reader through the process. Traditional-book users have a similar system called a “pencil”. With it, favoured passages can be underlined and, if it’s a history book, comments can be written in the margin (页边), such as “Not so, according to The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.” Thus noted, such books can be left around for others to study, convincing family members of your insight.
The printed book, of course, has other advantages. A full bookshelf is at once a sound base and a store of knowledge. And any properly thumbed book will always fall open at the sexiest scene. Also, the smell of old books in a second-hand bookshop is instantly remindful. Yes, it’s a mix of mould (霉味) and old paper, but to me it represents possibility.
Educational fashions come and go, so maybe the shift back to traditional books won’t last. But for the moment, I find myself standing at attention, extending my textbook-built shoulders and saluting their glorious return.
In the debate about which is better, it seems that the hard-copy book is harder to knock out than originally thought.
28.Why does the author use the digital language to judge printed books?
A.To explain concepts. B.To highlight development of languages.
C.To please readers. D.To make better comparisons.
29.What does the underlined word “annotate” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Search. B.Access. C.Add notes. D.Get information.
30.What attracts the readers as to printed books?
A.Value of senses. B.Knowledge storage. C.Bookshelves. D.Bookstores.
31..Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Why E-books Are Convenient B.Why the Printed Book Is Back
C.Why Educational Fashions Change D.Why Digital Reading Becomes Popular

In a paper in the journal BioScience, researchers put forward an innovative plan: sending a box filled with cryo-preserved (低温保存的) cells from diverse animal species to a shadowed region on the moon. The natural cold there can keep the samples frozen, aiming to create a bio-repository (生物库) for long-term species conservation.
The idea of a biodiversity repository has been incubated for decades. Lead author Mary Hagedorn, a senior research scientist, has spent 20 years on coral cryo-preservation. A lunar bio-repository would extend this idea to a wider range of animals, possibly including endangered species and culturally important animals. Cryo-preserved cells must be at minus 196°C. On Earth, maintaining this temperature requires liquid nitrogen, electricity, and human supervision (监督). Any disruption (中断) can endanger the samples. In contrast, the permanently shadowed regions on the moon may offer a stable, cold environment without the need for artificial cooling.
The scientists draw inspiration from the Global Seed Vault in Norway. There, more than one million seed samples are preserved underneath the permafrost, which naturally cools them. However, in 2017, it was flooded due to climate-change-related permafrost melting (融化), showing that Earth’s storage sites are weak.
Storing cells on the moon, however, also poses challenges. With only a thin atmosphere, the moon is exposed to solar and cosmic radiation that can degrade DNA.Additionally, lunar dust, which sticks to everything, is another potential concern.
So far, the researchers have successfully cryo-preserved skin samples of the starry goby, a fish for coral reef health. They hope to attract new partners by publicizing their idea. They’ve applied for a spot on a 2025 NASA flight to test the radiation exposure of cryo-preserved cells.
Some experts question the move of the lunar bio-repository, arguing that it’s costly and may shift resources from ongoing conservation efforts. But Hagedorn believes that the current situation on Earth urgently calls for such a biodiversity repository, which is another way to protect Earth’s precious biodiversity.
32.Why do researchers want to create a lunar bio-repository?
A.To test cryo-preservation tech.
B.To collect diverse animal cells.
C.To study the lunar environment.
D.To protect Earth’s biodiversity.
33.What does the underlined word “incubated” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Hidden. B.Developed.
C.Repeated. D.Challenged.
34.What can we infer from the example of the Global Seed Vault?
A.Permafrost is a safe cooling material.
B.Norway has advanced storage technology.
C.Earth’s storage sites are not always reliable.
D.Climate change is the main threat to seed storage.
35.What’s Hagedorn’s attitude towards the lunar bio-repository?
A.Supportive. B.Doubtful.
C.Indifferent. D.Opposed.

Quick Workouts in Break Times for Students
Finding time to exercise while struggling with school work and other commitments can be a tough task for students. 36 By taking advantage of short breaks between classes or study sessions for quick works, students can gain the benefits of exercise along their academic responsibilities.
One way to fit in a quick workout during break times is by engaging in high-intensity interval (间歇) training exercises. 37 These workouts can easily be done in a small space and require minimal equipment. Students can perform exercises such as jumping jacks, squats (深蹲) and lunges (弓步) to get their heart rate up and break a sweat in just a few minutes.
38 Whether it’s a brief walk around the playgrounds or a jog around the track field, getting some fresh air and movement during breaks can help students restore their energy levels and refocus on their studies. Many schools have fitness stations or outdoor workout equipment that students can use during their free time.
Lastly, including stretching or yoga in break times can help students relax and relieve some of the stress that comes with academic demands. Simple yoga poses or stretching exercises can be performed in a quiet corner of the library or an empty classroom during breaks. 39
While there may be challenges along the way, it is possible for students to fit exercise into a busy school schedule. 40 By recognizing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the school years, students can cultivate habits that will benefit them well beyond graduation.
A.In addition, there are organized sports at school.
B.However, making use of break times can be a smart idea.
C.To address the challenge, some schools extend break times.
D.This way, students can return to their studies feeling refreshed.
E.Another option is to take advantage of outdoor spaces on campus.
F.With the above tips, they can balance studies and physical activities.
G.They are designed to be short yet intense, making them ideal for short breaks.

67. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
My 12-year-old daughter is smart, even sharper than I was at her age, but she just wouldn’t pick up a chapter book for fun. School books were tough for her, and when it came to free time, she stuck to picture books and listened to “Harry Potter” audiobooks. None of these really got her into deep reading, where you stare at words on paper and let your imagination fly.
For a while, I had to face the truth: I hadn’t passed on the joy of reading to her. I tried telling her how reading makes life richer, but she shrugged (耸肩) and said, “Lots of my friends don’t like reading either. It’s no big deal.”
Things went worse when she got a smartphone last year. Suddenly, my lively child became lazy, always on her phone. I suggested other fun activities, but she just found theme “boring.” I still held out hope for reading, seeing it as a developmental escape. But the problem was that she chose the colorful, noisy world of her phone.
Then, right before we left for an 8-day holiday on a beautiful Greek island, we talked about reading again. “Novels are the best way to understand how people feel,” I told her. “I can learn more from social media,” she replied. I mentioned storytelling and history, and she said, “I can watch movies and use the internet.” I even promised to buy her any books she liked, but she smiled and said, “Mama, welcome to your dream.”
I realized I couldn’t win. She had good reasons and I couldn’t say she was wrong. Sure, reading opens up new worlds, but so does the whole internet. Still, deep down, I wished she’d experience the pure magic of reading—those special moments when an author says exactly what you’ve always felt but never knew how to express.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

That sounds like the whole idea of going out will die. How strange. So what does all of this mean for traditional communication? I'm afraid people won't be doing much of that, will be doing most of our communicating online. Do you think we will lose the art of real conversation? I think that could be a real problem.
根据第二段“When Noah was three months old, Elizabeth noticed something strange in his photos. (当Noah三个月大时,Elizabeth在他的照片中注意到了一些奇怪的现象)”以及第四段“He discovered that the first white spot appeared in a photo taken when Noah was just 12 days old. As Noah grew, the white spot appeared more often. (他发现第一处白斑出现在Noah仅12天大的照片中。随着Noah长大,白斑出现得更加频繁)”可知,Noah的情况随着年龄增长而恶化。故选B项。
25.细节理解题。根据第五段“Although it was too late to help Noah, Bryan wanted to use his knowledge to benefit others. (“我告诉自己必须要做这件事”,布莱恩解释道)”综上可以看出,Bryan是一个慷慨且坚定的人。故选D项。
C
【答案】28.D 29.C 30.A 31.B
【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要介绍了印刷书籍的回归及其原因。
28.细节理解题。根据第二段“I love the way we now judge printed books using the language of the digital world. E-books may come with a “suite of guiding tools”, but it turns out that the best guiding devices are your fingers. You can use them to look through the pages forwards and backwards. To think, all this time, those devices have just been sitting there, hanging at the end of your arm.(我喜欢我们如今用数字世界的语言来评判纸质书籍的方式。电子书或许配有“一系列引导工具”,但事实证明,最出色的引导工具其实是你的手指。你可以用手指来前后翻阅书页。想想看,一直以来,那些设备都只是静静地躺在那里,悬在你的手臂末端)”可推知,作者喜欢使用这些电子时代的语言来评判纸质书,更多是为了在两者之间更好地作比较。故选D。
29.词句猜测题。根据第四段“Fans of the e-book point out that digital text is easy to annotate.(电子书的爱好者们指出,电子文本便于……)”以及下面的举例“With it, favoured passages can be underlined and, if it’s a history book, comments can be written in the margin (页边), such as “Not so, according to The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.” Thus noted, such books can be left around for others to study, convincing family members of your insight.(通过它,读者可以将喜欢的段落用线条划出,如果是一本历史书,还可以在页边写下评论(比如“并非如此,据《罗马帝国的衰落与覆灭》所述”)。这样一来,这样的书籍就可以放在那里供他人研读,还能让家人看到你的见解)”可知,用铅笔可将喜欢的段落标注下划线,若是历史书籍,可在页边题写评论,由此可推断,annotate的词意为“加注”。故选C。
30.推理判断题。根据第五段“And any properly thumbed book will always fall open at the sexiest scene. Also, the smell of old books in a second-hand bookshop is instantly remindful. Yes, it’s a mix of mound (霉味) and old paper, but to me it represents possibility.(而且任何被翻阅过的书页总是会在最精彩的情节处自动翻开。此外,在二手书店里,旧书散发出的气味会立刻让人想起过往。没错,那是一种霉味和旧纸张混合的味道,但对我来说,它代表着无限可能)”可知,文章提到触觉体验(用手指翻页)、二手书店里旧书的味道,说明了感官的价值让读者对纸质书籍产生兴趣。故选A。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段“The printed book is back. Recent studies have shown that students keep in mind more information when they read a hard-copy book compared to reading on a digital device.(纸质书又回来了。最近的研究表明,与在电子设备上阅读相比,学生阅读纸质书时能记住更多的信息)”以及文章主要介绍了印刷书籍的回归及其原因。故B选项“印刷书为何回归”是最佳标题。故选B。
D
D.Opposed.
【答案】32.D 33.B 34.C 35.A

32.细节理解题。根据第一段中“The natural cold there can keep the samples frozen, aiming to create a bio-repository (生物库) for long term-species conservation.(那里的自然寒冷可以使样本保持冷冻状态,旨在建立一个用于长期物种保护的生物库)”和最后一段中“But Hagedorn believes that the current situation on Earth urgently calls for such a biodiversity repository, which is another way to protect Earth’s precious biodiversity.(但哈格多恩认为,地球上目前的情况迫切需要这样一个生物多样性库,这是保护地球珍贵生物多样性的另一种方式)”可知,研究人员想创建月球生物库是为了保护地球的生物多样性。故选D项。
33.词句猜测题。根据第二段中“Lead author Mary Hagedorn, a senior research scientist, has spent 20 years on coral cryo-preservation. A lunar bio-repository would extend this idea to a wider range of animals, possibly including endangered species and culturally important animals.(该研究的主要作者、高级研究科学家玛丽·哈格多恩花了20年时间进行珊瑚低温保存研究。月球生物库将把这个想法扩展到更广泛的动物种类,可能包括濒危物种和具有文化重要性的动物)”可知,关于生物多样性资源库的想法已经经过了几十年的发展。所以“The idea of a biodiversity repository has been incubated for decades.(建立生物多样性资源库的想法已经……几十年)”中划线词“incubated”的意思是“逐渐发展”,与B项“Developed”同义。故选B项。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“The scientists draw inspiration from the Global Seed Vault in Norway. There, more than one million seed samples are preserved underneath the permafrost, which naturally cools them. However, in 2017, it was flooded due to climate-change-related permafrost melting (融化), showing that Earth’s storage sites are weak.(科学家们从挪威的全球种子库中获得启示。在那里,超过一百万的种子样本被保存在永久冻土下,自然冷却它们。然而,2017年,由于与气候变化相关的永久冻土融化,它被洪水淹没,这表明地球上的储存地点并不可靠)”可知,从全球种子库的例子可以推断出地球上的储存地点并不总是可靠的。故选C项。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“But Hagedorn believes that the current situation on Earth urgently calls for such a biodiversity repository, which is another way to protect Earth’s precious biodiversity.(但哈格多恩认为,地球上目前的情况迫切需要这样一个生物多样性库,这是保护地球珍贵生物多样性的另一种方式)”可知,Hagedorn认为我们迫切需要一个生物多样性资源库,所以他对月球生物库持支持态度。故选A项。

Dear Jim,
I’m sorry to learn that you’re troubled by the large amount of false or inaccurate information on online media.
Without doubt, the rapid development of social media brings us a variety of news, enabling us to communicate freely. But some false news or information also gets the chance to spread widely. As for it, I’d like to give you some advice. First, it is wise to read news reports from various perspectives and identify the content of the news reasonably. Moreover, we need to be critical about the information we receive and remember not to blindly trust what we have read.
With great discrimination, everyone has the potential to be a critical news reader. (hope what I say) may help you a little.
Yours,

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【范文】
So, instead of talking more, I decided to offer a reward. “If you finish one novel during this trip, I’ll buy you that art set you’ve been wanting,” I proposed, pointing to the book I’d secretly packed: The Secret Garden. To my surprise, she hesitated but agreed. The Greek island, with its limited Wi-Fi, became the perfect setting. With fewer digital distractions, she reluctantly picked up the book by the pool. Gradually, the vibrant descriptions of the garden and the resilient characters drew her in. By day three, I found her reading under an olive tree, completely absorbed, her phone forgotten beside her.
By the end of the holiday, my daughter finished her book and asked for another. Her eyes sparkled as she discussed Mary’s transformation and the magic of the hidden garden. “Can I get A Wrinkle in Time next?” she asked. I smiled, overwhelmed with relief. Later, she even used her phone creatively—taking photos of scenic spots that reminded her of the story and sharing her reading journey online. Watching her connect literature to her world, I realized the true reward wasn’t just the art set; it was witnessing her discover the quiet magic of words, a joy no screen could replicate. Tears welled in my eyes—she’d finally felt what I could never fully explain.

66. Dear Jim,
I’m sorry to learn that you’re troubled by the large amount of false or inaccurate information on online media.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
67. Paragraph 1
Paragraph 2
