A baobab tree is huge like an upside-down carrot. It can grow so large that it needs more than 40 people holding hands to circle it. Actually, most baobab trees are not very tall, only about ten meters.
A baobab tree is valuable. It is said that if everyone in Africa had a 10-meter-tall baobab tree, it would solve more than 50% of their food problems. In hot Africa, water is the most needed. When the rainy season comes, the baobab tree starts to hold water in its body. The baobab tree is said to be the most water-holding tree. It can hold thousands of kilograms of water in its body. Local people usually cut a hole in the tree with a knife and get clean water from it. The baobab tree leaves are a bit like spinach (菠菜) leaves. True to its Chinese name, the fruit of the baobab tree tastes like bread. But it’s not like bread with cream. It tastes dry. Local people seldom get stomach problems because of eating it.

Pangolin is a name coming from the Malay word “pengguling”, which means “rolling (卷) over”, because they are able to roll themselves up into a ball when facing danger. The scales (鳞片), covering most of their bodies, are quite protective. If another animal gets caught between the scales, it can get a serious cut.
Pangolins live mainly on ants and some other insects. With small heads and no teeth, pangolins have very long, strong and sticky (黏的) tongues (舌头) that are perfect for getting ants in the deep holes. As they have poor eyesight, they look for ants with their sense of smell. With strong legs, they are not only good at digging holes but also can run surprisingly fast and often rise on their back legs to smell the air.
Sleeping in the daytime and looking for food at night, pangolins are called the animals of the night. Since they are very secretive (隐秘的), it is difficult for scientists to study them. Though little is known, pangolins are greatly killed for their meat and scales. Most Asian people believe the scales can have medical value. But according to recent research, the scales actually are no good medicine, as they are made from the same thing that also forms human hair and fingernails.
Almost hunted to extinction (灭绝), pangolins are now regarded as one of the most valuable animals that need protection. World Pangolin Day is marked on the third Saturday in February to call upon the public to protect them.
41. Paragraph 3 mainly talks about ________.
