Well-trained puppies adapt easily to new homes, thanks to their quick learning. Each dog breed (品种) has unique qualities that set them apart. Here, we’ll explore some beloved breeds and their outstanding features.
Papillon
This breed has a small size and a lightweight body. It is known for its characteristic butterfly-like ears, with long, fringed hair. Papillons are intelligent, confident, playful, loving and happy. They’re also excellent at learning tricks and following commands, making them one of the best dogs for first-time owners.
Border collie
Border collies are quick, intelligent dogs that are exceptional athletes when it comes to herding. Originating from the border region of Scotland, they were raised to gather and herd sheep both by following whistles from a great distance, and by thinking for themselves. Border collies need a lot of focused time, care and activities. It’s worth the effort, though, as they are one of the most faithful dog breeds out there.
Golden retrievers
Golden retrievers are beloved for their friendly and gentle nature, making them fantastic family companions to have. These dogs are not only outgoing and patient, especially with children, but also highly trainable — they excel in roles like service dogs, comfort dogs, and search-and-rescue work due to their eagerness to learn and please.
German shepherd
Guide dogs for the blind and watchdogs often have one thing in common: They’re German shepherds. These are some of the easiest dogs to train for work and family life. Because they have a strong protective tendency, it’s important to train them early to avoid them unnecessarily hurting others.
21. Which dog breed suits the new starters best?
A. Papillon. B. Border collie. C. Golden retriever. D. German shepherd.
22. What do border collies and German shepherds have in common?
A. Both are raised to look after animals.
B. Both are intelligent and good for work.
C. Both are good at thinking independently.
D. Both are friendly and gentle with children.
23. Why are golden retrievers good service dogs?
A. Because of their small and light size.
B. Because they can be good family pets.
C. Because of their strong learning desire.
D. Because they can follow a distant whistle.
B
From collectors flying across countries to K-pop star Lisa saying “I go Pop Mart everywhere,” Pop Mart, a Chinese toy brand, has become a worldwide craze. At the center are blind-box toys and famous characters, none more talked about than Labubu, a furry “ugly-cute” figure loved across the globe.
Founded in 2010 by Wang Ning, Pop Mart grew from a small shop in Beijing into China’s top “trendy toy” company. Its breakthrough came in 2016 with Molly blind boxes, proving mystery packs could create excitement and huge sales. Since then, Pop Mart has built an “IP engine” — developing or licensing characters, turning them into toy figures, and selling them through shops and vending machines (自动售货机). It has also partnered with Disney and Sanrio. By 2025, Labubu had become its best-selling character, reflecting the rise of trendy toys as part of global youth culture.
For young consumers, these toys mean more than playthings. Claire Carrillo, a 24-year-old from the Philippines, is drawn to CryBaby, a genderless character with rosy cheeks and teary eyes. “I see myself as a crybaby,” she explained. Similarly, Singapore filmmaker Ashley Jane Leow collects Hirono and Nyota because they reflect her and her boyfriend’s personalities.
One big reason behind Pop Mart’s success is the “kidult” market, made up of young people and Gen Z who enjoy hobbies linked to childhood. According to its 2024 report, the company now operates over 530 stores worldwide, making around 13.2 billion yuan in sales. Another driver is blind box culture. The surprise element pushes people to buy more and creates a sense of anticipation that makes each purchase feel like a small adventure. It also encourages community through sharing, trading and displaying the toys. “It’s just a fun little thing we do together to relieve stress,” said Amanda Lee, 26, from Singapore, who enjoys opening blind boxes with colleagues at lunch. For many, the magic of Pop Mart lies in this mix of art, emotion and connection.
24. What does the word “craze” in paragraph 1 most probably mean?
A. A common daily habit. B. A lasting cultural tradition.
C. A brief but intense fashion. D. A problem troubling society.
25. What helped Pop Mart grow quickly in 2016?
A. The launch of vending machines.
B. The success of Molly blind boxes.
C. Partnerships with Disney and Sanrio.
D. Its licensing characters and toy figures.
26. Why does Carrillo from the Philippines like the CryBaby series?
A. Because it has a delicate appearance.
B. Because it shows her own character.
C. Because it reminds her of childhood.
D. Because it enjoys worldwide popularity.
27. Why are Pop Mart purchases attractive to consumers?
A. Because they remind elderly people of their childhood.
B. Because they boost stress relief and community growth.
C. Because they offer office workers fun during lunch breaks.
D. Because they increase excitement through surprise elements.
C
China is actively developing a circular economy across all industries, aiming to turn waste into useful products. By the end of this year, the country plans to establish a complete circular industrial system, with the recycling industry expected to reach a value of 5 trillion yuan.
Advanced technology is used to improve recycling efficiency. At a circular economy park in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, high-tech facilities handle about 500 tons of kitchen waste daily. Around 90 percent of this waste can be turned into nutrient-rich soil for gardening or turned into biogas for the city’s energy supply. Tree branches and fallen leaves can also be made into clean fuel pellets (颗粒) for power plants. One company processes 100 tons of green waste every day, generating up to 9 million yuan in annual revenue (财政收入).
Another important part of the circular economy is the secondhand goods market. Originally popular in the US and Europe, secondhand products are now widely accepted in China. These include household appliances, books, digital devices, and sports or musical equipment. Affordable prices allow more people to enjoy these items while pursuing their hobbies.
To support the secondhand digital market, trading platforms provide product testing, fair pricing, and privacy protection. For example, China Resources Recycling Group plans to expand its secure mobile phone recycling program to provincial capitals. Xianyu, one of China’s largest secondhand platforms, has over 600 million users and daily trades of more than 1 billion yuan.
The circular economy and secondhand market not only reduce waste and increase the circulation of unused products but also create new consumer demands and support economic growth.
28. What is the main goal of China’s circular economy?
A. To promote economic growth.
B. To improve industrial efficiency.
C. To make better use of resources.
D. To support technological development.
29. What can most kitchen waste in Suzhou be used for?
A. Providing raw materials for factories.
B. Generating energy and enriching soil.
C. Producing green fuel for transportation.
D. Being stored briefly for future disposal.
30. How do secondhand platforms like Xianyu support users?
A. By organizing online trade fairs.
B. By providing guidance on hobbies.
C. By ensuring product value and safety.
D. By offering discounts and free delivery.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. China’s Circular Economy Drive.
B. Industrial Output Growth in Cities.
C. High-Tech Recycling Parks in China.
D. How Secondhand Products Earn Money.
D
Publishers have been warned that “the website is dying” as the medium struggles to meet audience expectations while competing with new digital types. The findings came from Enders Analysis, a research company, which said the drop in click-throughs was caused by a large amount of competing content from social media platforms and AI summaries produced by search engines.
Unlike 10 years ago, when search engines brought visitors to websites, generative AI now allows people to get their questions answered directly on the search page — no need to click on a website. A survey of more than 1,100 US consumers by Bain & Company found that 80 percent use these “zero-click” results for at least 40 percent of their searches.
Social media platforms also play a major role. Many people now learn about new brands, products, services and experiences through pictures and videos on these platforms instead of clicking on websites. While some would argue that being able to find an answer quickly from multiple sources without clicking through several sites is easier and more convenient, there are obvious problems with this.
“Publishers are losing visibility and value as their content is used but not rewarded,” said Douglas McCabe, a media analyst, in the Rewriting the Media Playbook report. The biggest problem, noted TechSpot, is that no one will want to create new content if they are paid nothing or almost nothing for it. This is especially true for small, independent websites that Al companies may not want to work with.
“AI is going to completely change the business model of the web,” Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince told TechSpot, a website that shares news and analysis on technology. He pointed out that the value exchange between search engines and content creators is disappearing. He added that since his company is at the center of this issue, they are trying to find ways to address it — hopefully before it’s too late.
32. What does the survey by Bain Company mainly show?
A. AI reduces the need for online search.
B. Most users still prefer website browsing.
C. Search engines attract fewer visitors now.
D Many people depend on zero-click results.
33. What is highlighted in paragraph 3?
A. Zero-click results bring convenience and problems.
B. Videos and images attract more users than websites.
C. Social media removes the need for visiting websites.
D Online platforms bring products and services to light.
34. What can be inferred about small websites?
A. They are unwilling to work with Al firms.
B. They play a major role in online business.
C. They gain more traffic through search tools.
D. They may struggle to survive without income.
35. What did Prince think of the changes brought by AI?
A. He believed the issue was well settled.
B. He was sure that it would benefit creators.
C. He was indifferent to Cloudflare’s major role.
D. He was concerned about their negative effect.

I had been waitressing for a couple of months. One day, my boss said to me, “Go and see if Joseph would like more coffee,” and he pointed to an old man sitting in the corner. Joseph was a regular lunch customer every Monday and Friday. He always sat by the window, deep in thought about something far away.
I walked over and asked, “Would you like more coffee, Joseph?” He looked up calmly and gently pointed to the seat across from him. “Could you sit for a minute, please?”
I sat down and he said kindly. “Don’t worry. It’s just that your smile reminds me of my granddaughter.” “What’s her name?” I replied.
“Kima,” he said, taking out a picture of her and handing it to me. “She finished college last year.”
“She is very pretty,” I said. “Does she live nearby?” Joseph shook his head. “She moved to California last year. I miss her a lot. We used to have lunch together on Mondays and Fridays.”
“Kima was my first granddaughter, so I would spoil her as much as I wanted. Every day after elementary school, we’d go to the park — the one with the old wooden swing set and the big oak tree. More often than not, we ended up getting ice cream, even when her mom said not to.” His eyes shone with the memory. “Now she wants me to move closer to her.”
“So, why don’t you?” I asked.
He was quiet for a moment. “I’m not sure,” he said finally. “I’ve lived my whole life here. My memories are in these streets — in this town. It’s not so easy to pack them up and leave.”
The conversation stayed with me for the rest of the day. Over the next few weeks, Joseph kept coming into the cafe on Mondays and Fridays. He’d stop by the counter, and ask how I was doing. Sometimes he’d share updates about Kima. But on that Monday of Thanksgiving week, he didn’t show up. Then, one Wednesday afternoon, as I was walking through the parking lot after my shift, I heard someone call my name. I turned around and found it was Joseph.

【66题答案】
【答案】Dear Mr. Smith,
I am Li Hua, the leader of the English Bookworm Club. Our club is dedicated to promoting English literature reading among students, but we have been encountering some difficulties recently.
Many members find our activities somewhat repetitive — mainly book sharing and group discussions — which has led to a decline in participation and enthusiasm. We would be truly grateful if you could provide some advice on how to diversify our content and make the sessions more engaging and interactive. Your expertise would be invaluable in helping us revitalize the club.
Thank you so much for your time and support.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】Joseph was walking towards me with a photo in his hand. “I thought I missed you,” he said, catching his breath as he stood in front of me. He handed the photo to me with a wide smile on his face. It was a photo of his family gathering on Thanksgiving Day. He explained that he had flown to California to spend Thanksgiving with Kima and her family. They had turkey at her place and talked for hours. He added: “I’ve decided to have a brand new start in California.”
I asked, “What is the brand new start?” “I’m finally leaving,” he replied. “Wow!” I said. “What indeed made you change your mind?” “Well…you did. Thank you for listening to my stories. You helped me remember how important being a grandfather is…” Tears welled up in our eyes as he held my hand. I gave him a hug and whispered, “Though I would miss our conversations, I know you are right. This is where you belong: surrounded by love, new memories, and family.”
