B For a long time, I kept a selection of books on a shelf next to my bed that I called my “heartbooks”. To qualify for a place on the shelf, a book had to be not only one I loved, but one that mattered. There was one book that never made it onto that shelf, though I read it in high school: Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg. I can still remember the day I bought it. It was summer and I must have been 14 or 15. Desperate to get out of my house, I rode my bike into town and walked into the bookstore. I was going through the shelf of books on writing and it caught my eye. I picked it up, read a few pages, and bought it. Then I took it with me to a park, read the first few chapters, and opened my notebook to write. It’s a fairly straightforward writing book. Goldberg’s method is simple: you choose a topic, set a timer, and write for 10, 15, or 20 minutes without picking up your pen. Free writing, timed writing, writing topics: anyone who has taken a creative writing class may have encountered these things. It’s not earth-shattering. There was nothing particularly new or unusual about the book so I can’t say why it attracted me so much. But it changed everything. I went from being someone who enjoyed writing to being a writer. During my teen years and early twenties, following Goldberg’s method was at the core of my identity. No matter where I was or what I was doing, I filled notebooks. When I eventually started writing fiction, I did the same thing. The “I” in my notebooks became someone else, but I held to the same practice. This writing practice led me to a writing group in Boston. It led me to my current career. It led me, in so many ways, to myself. Becoming a writer allowed me to become so many other things: an activist, a business owner, a farmer, a baker... Writing is where I found my confidence. It was where becoming curious about the world. From that, everything else has followed. 4. How did the author encounter Writing Down the Bones? A. By following a selection of “heart books”. B. By referring to a book list about writing. C. By recommendation of Natalie Goldberg. D. By seeking writing books on a bookshelf. 5. What does the word “earth-shattering” underlined in paragraph 3 mean? A. Remarkable. B. Useful. C. Controversial. D. Amusing. 6. What can we infer about Writing Down the Bones? A. It inspired the author to be a writer. B. It was the first novel the author read. C. It made the author start to love writing. D. It is one of the books the author reads most. 7. Which of the following is answered by the last paragraph? A. What is the author’s life like right now? B. What did the author do in the writing group? C. How has the writing practice shaped the author? D. Why did the author give up the writing practice? C In a new study, the researchers examined trends in subjective well-being (幸福) over the course of a lifespan based on 443 samples from a total of 460,902 participants. “We focused on changes in three central components of subjective well-being: life satisfaction, positive emotional states and negative emotional states,” explains Professor Susanne Bücker. The findings show that life satisfaction decreased between the ages of 9 and 16, then increased slightly until the age of 70, and then decreased once again until the age of 96. Positive emotional states showed a general decline from age 9 to age 94, while negative emotional states fluctuated (波动) slightly between ages 9 and 22, then declined until age 60 and then increased once again. The authors identified greater median changes in positive and negative emotional states than in life satisfaction. “Overall, the study indicated a positive trend over a wide period of life, if we look at life satisfaction and negative emotional states,” Susanne Bücker concludes. The researchers attribute the slight decline in life satisfaction between the ages of 9 and 16 to, for example, changes to the body and to the social life that take place during adolescence. Satisfaction rose again from young adulthood onwards. Positive feelings tended to decrease from childhood to late adulthood. In very late adulthood, all components of subjective well-being tended to worsen rather than improve. “This could be related to the fact that in very old people, physical performance decreases, health often worsens, and social contacts reduce; not least because their peers pass away,” calculates the researcher. The study highlights the need to consider and promote subjective well-being with its various components across the life, as the authors of the study conclude. Their findings could provide significant guidance for the development of intervention programmes, especially those aimed at maintaining or improving subjective well-being late in life. 8. What is exactly the subject of the study? A. Life satisfaction of the elderly. B. Trends in lifelong subjective well-being. C. Ways to control negative emotional states. D. Factors affecting positive emotional states. 9. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. Adolescence is the only life stage where a decline in life satisfaction occurs. B. Negative emotional states consistently decrease from childhood to young adulthood. C. Life satisfaction rebounds after adolescence, while positive emotions show a long-term decline throughout most of life. D. The fundamental reason for the decline in well-being in very late adulthood is the significant increase in negative emotions. 10. What is the positive significance of this study? A. Teaching to improve physical performance. B Giving suggestions on the lifetime increase. C. Providing a theoretical basis for healthy growth. D. Guiding to improve the well-being of the elderly. 11. What’s the best title for the text? A. When does happiness matter most to us? B. What does subjective well-being consist of? C. Why will we be more positive as we get older? D. How does subjective well-being develop over the lifetime? D The rainforests are alive with the sound of animals. Besides the pleasure of the din, it is also useful to ecologists. If you want to measure the biodiversity of a piece of land, listening out for animal calls is much easier than digging about in the undergrowth looking for tracks. But such “bio-acoustic analysis” is still time-consuming, and it requires an expert pair of ears. In a paper published on October 17th in Nature Communications, a group of researchers led by Jörg Müller, an ecologist at the University of Würzburg, describe a better way: have a computer do the job. Smartphone apps already exist that will identify birds, bats or mammals simply by listening to the sounds they make. Their idea was to apply the principle to conservation work. The researchers took recordings from across 43 sites in the Ecuadorean rainforest. Sound recordings were taken four times every hour, over two weeks. The various calls were identified manually by an expert, and then used to construct a list of the species present. As expected, the longer the land had been free from agricultural activity, the greater the biodiversity it hosted. Then it was the computer’s turn. The researchers fed their recordings to artificial-intelligence models that had been trained, using sound samples from elsewhere in Ecuador, to identify 75 bird species from their calls. “We found that the AI tools could identify the sounds as well as the experts,” says Dr Müller. Of course, not everything in a rainforest makes a noise. Dr Müller and his colleagues used light-traps to capture night-flying insects, and DNA analysis to identify them. Reassuringly, they found that the diversity of noisy animals was a reliable proxy (指标) for the diversity of the quieter ones, too. The results may have relevance outside ecology departments, too. Under pressure from their customers, firms such as L’Oreal, a make-up company, and Shell, an oil firm, have been spending money on forest restoration projects around the world. Dr Müller hopes that an automated approach to checking on the results could help monitor such efforts, and give a standardized way to measure whether they are working as well as their sponsors say. 12. Which of the following best describes Dr Müller’s method of bio-acoustic analysis? A. Costly. B. Impractical. C. High-tech. D. Labor-consuming. 13. What can we learn from the research of Dr Müller? A. The species in the rainforests have increased. B. Agricultural activity negatively influenced the richness in species. C There are more reliable sound recordings in Ecuadorean rainforest. D. Trained AI models can identify as many kinds of sounds as experts. 14. Why did the Dr Müller and his colleagues do the survey in Paragraph 5? A. To figure out the species of quieter animals. B. To confirm the biodiversity of the quieter animals. C. To emphasize the biodiversity of the noisy animals. D. To compare the noisy animals and the quieter ones. 15. What’s the main idea of the last paragraph? A. The investment in bio-acoustic analysis. B. The importance of forest restoration projects. C. The standard to measure the automated approach. D. The research’s impact on forest restoration projects. In today’s world, many retired people feel lonely and unsure about their purpose in life. ___16___Some find it hard to get a job because they lack experience or practical skills. Others want to live on their own but can’t afford the high cost of rent. ___17___ This means bringing older and younger people together to help each other out. After all, older people are a huge untapped resource — many are retired doctors, engineers, teachers, or business owners with a wealth of experience. Young people, on the other hand, have their own strengths, especially when it comes to using modern technology. By sharing their time and skills, both sides gain something meaningful — older adults feel more connected and useful, while young people get support, guidance, and often a fresh perspective on life. ___18___ In some programs, retired volunteers visit primary schools to listen to kids read and give them one-on-one support. Similar programs also exist in secondary schools and even universities. Other projects send children or teenagers into retirement homes regularly — to teach digital skills, entertain the residents, or simply keep them company and hear their stories. ___19___ These students may live rent-free in exchange for helping with chores and offering support, or they pay less rent while checking in regularly and having friendly chats with their older housemates. These intergenerational projects have made a real difference. By connecting people from different age groups and backgrounds, they help build trust, mutual respect, and lasting friendships.___20___ A. It’s a truly win-win for everyone involved. B. These are important for a connected society. C. At the same time, many young people face their own struggles. D. Studies have shown that retired people can still contribute to society. E. One possible answer to these issues is intergenerational volunteering. F. Volunteering may even help young students discover a new passion for life. G. Some university students are paired with elderly people who have spare rooms. One morning outside the baseball stadium in New York, a taxi parked near the entrance. I struggled to sit up, but after being hospitalized several days for severe breathing difficulties, I was still very weak. Now, I was in a nursing home, and I hated staying here. The two elderly women who were sharing my room kept me up every night with low, painful sounds and screams. My nerves were shot, and I felt really tired from not sleeping. Fortunately, there was one positive part about my stay at the nursing home: The food was good. Since I needed to be on medications that had a side effect of stimulating my appetite, I was thankful to have three tasty meals each day. “You gave me oatmeal (燕麦粥) again. Thanks for remembering that it’s my favorite breakfast!” I told the young man who had brought my breakfast. “Well, uh, thanks,” he replied, looking surprised. “Actually, we cook oatmeal for all the patients every morning, but nobody has ever told me before that they like it. Everyone on the kitchen staff works very hard to prepare the meals, so it’s nice to hear praise for a change. Usually, the patients are complaining about the food.” While the young man delivered breakfasts to the two other women in the room, I wondered what I could do to encourage him and his coworkers. Reaching for a pen on my nightstand, I quickly wrote a nice note about the food on the back of the breakfast menu and waved it in the air. “Is that for me?” the man asked with a laugh. He read my note and smiled widely. Then he promised to show my comments to everyone in the kitchen before hurrying away to deliver more breakfasts. As I watched him walk down the hallway, an idea came to me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Upon my departure, the man thanked me for my meal notes for all staff. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 成都石室中学 2025-2026学年度上期高 2026 届十月月考 英语试卷 本试卷分第Ⅰ卷(选择题)和第Ⅱ卷(非选择题)两部分。 1. D 5. A 6. A 7. 根据第二段“I was going through the shelf of books on writing and it caught my eye. I picked it up, read a few pages, and bought it.(我正在浏览写作书籍的书架,它引起了我的注意。我拿起它,读了几页,然后买了它。)”可知,作者是通过在书架上寻找写作书籍时遇到《Writing Down the Bones》这本书的。故选D。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线单词上一句“Free writing, timed writing, writing topics: anyone who has taken a creative writing class may have encountered these things.(自由写作,定时写作,写作主题:任何上过创意写作课的人都可能遇到过这些事情)”以及划线单词下一句“There was nothing particularly new or unusual about the book so I can’t say why it attracted me so much. (这本书并没有什么特别新颖或不同寻常的地方,所以我也说不出为什么它如此吸引我)”可推测,任何上过创意写作课的人都可能遇到过的事情在说中都有所描述,并且这本书没有什么特别新颖或不同寻常的地方。因此猜测划线单词earth-shattering意为“引人注目的”,和空前的“not”结合,指的是书中的方法并不是那么引人注目。故选A。 根据第三段“But it changed everything. I went from being someone who enjoyed writing to being a writer.(但它改变了一切。我从一个喜欢写作的人变成了一个作家)”可知,《Writing Down the Bones》这本书激发了作者成为作家的灵感。故选A。 根据最后一段“This writing practice led me to a writing group in Boston. It led me to my current career. It led me, in so many ways, to myself. Becoming a writer allowed me to become so many other things: an activist, a business owner, a farmer, a baker... Writing is where I found my confidence. It was where becoming curious about the world. From that, everything else has followed.(这种写作练习让我结识了一个位于波士顿的写作团体。 C。 C In a new study, the researchers examined trends in subjective well-being (幸福) over the course of a lifespan based on 443 samples from a total of 460,902 participants. “Overall the study indicated a positive trend over a wide period of life, if we look at life satisfaction and negative emotional states,” Susanne Bücker concludes. B. Giving suggestions on the lifetime increase. 8. B 9. C 10. D 11. C. There are more reliable sound recordings in Ecuadorean rainforest. 12. C 13. B 14. B 15. Our group believes that using AI to write essays has both advantages and disadvantages. While it can provide quick ideas, over-reliance may hinder students’ thinking skills. What matters most is learning to express ideas independently. We suggest that students use AI as a tool for inspiration, not answers. Teachers should also set clear rules, like requiring students to explain their essays afterward. This ensures that AI helps rather than replaces learning. In conclusion, we think that AI can be useful if used wisely. What counts is maintaining the balance between technology and self-improvement. Thank you! 词汇积累 阻碍:hinder→hamper 代替:replace→take the place of 确保:ensure→guarantee 灵感:inspiration→spark 2. While it can provide quick ideas, over-reliance may hinder students’ thinking skills. Quick ideas as it can provide, over-relying on it may hinder students’ thinking skills. 1】While it can provide quick ideas, over-reliance may hinder students’ thinking skills.(运用了while引导让步状语从句) 【高分句型2】What matters most is learning to express ideas independently.(运用了what引导的主语从句) 【高分句型3】In conclusion, we think that AI can be useful if used wisely.(运用了状语从句的省略) 第二节 读后续写(满分 25分,包括书写 5分) 47. “Good morning, Miss Bolz.” A friendly man in his early twenties greeted me as he placed my breakfast on the table next to my bed. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】作答示例 As I watched him walk down the hallway, an idea came to me. I decided to write an encouraging note to the kitchen staff after every meal, and once I finished eating, I would lay it on my plate. Working on these notes, I soon got my mind off my illness and my noisy roommates. Words couldn’t describe the warmth I felt every time that young person told me about the joy on the staff’s faces whenever they received my notes. As I knew that my little effort was greatly appreciated, I felt that time flew like an arrow and my surroundings were no longer noisy. Upon my departure, the man thanked me for my meal notes for all staff. His words made me realize how my little effort touched and encouraged everyone. Soon all the staff came in to say good-bye with a big thank-you note signed by every one of them and give me big hugs. Tears welling up in my eyes, I said sincerely, “Thank you so much for your hard work to make each meal nice.” I finally left with a strong resolution to express thankfulness whenever possible, having learned that it has the power to encourage others and light up even the hardest days. 词汇激活 行为类 ①决定:decide/determine ②完成:finish/accomplish ③意识到:realize/recognize 情绪类 ①快乐:joy/happiness/delight ②感激:thankfulness/gratitude 【点睛】[高分句型1]Working on these notes, I soon got my mind off my illness and my noisy roommates.(运用了现在分词作状语) [高分句型2]As I knew that my little effort was greatly appreciated, I felt that time flew like an arrow and my surroundings were no longer noisy.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句和that引导的宾语从句) [高分句型3].
