Churchlands SeniorHigh School (CSHS) has become part of the Blue Tree Project, a national movement that encourages people to be open about their struggles and aims to end the shame of mental (心理的) illness.
Last week, excitement filled the air as students at CSHS picked up paintbrushes and turned one of the trees bright blue. Laughter mixed with serious conversations as they worked side by side. When a few drops of paint accidentally landed on shoes or clothes, no one minded — it only made the memory more special.
Jess Hazeldine, 17, explained that painting the tree blue was more than just an activity. To her, it was a promise from students to face the issue (问题) of mental health. “It shows we, as students, are doing something about it,” she said. “It means a lot because we are taking an active role in fighting mental health problems among young people.” She added that painting the tree blue was also a way of showing that the students understood how serious the issue was, and that they were ready to work together as a school to address it.
Acting junior school principal Lisa Campbell also shared her thoughts. She said the school would now be listed on the Blue Tree Project’s website, alongside many other schools and organizations across the country. “It shows that we are part of a larger community in this cause,” she added.
Parent board member Genevieve McSporran agreed. She believed the blue tree would remain a lasting reminder. “It’s more than just one day of awareness — it will always be there,” she explained. She pointed out that the tree, visible to anyone passing by, helped build a stronger connection with the wider community.
24. What is the aim of the Blue Tree Project?

For many teens (青少年), Saturday mornings are a time to sleep in. After a busy week of waking up early, weekends offer a chance to catch up on rest. A new study finds that sleeping in on weekends — as long as it’s not for more than two additional hours — may help teens feel less anxious (焦虑的).
Sleep is very important for everyone, especially teens, because it helps the brain and body work properly. However, 75% of American teens do not get the recommended (推荐) 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. School, homework, and other activities require early wake-ups, and teens usually find it difficult to fall asleep before 11 pm.
In the past, research has suggested that sleeping too much on weekends could cause health problems. But no one had looked closely at how weekend sleep affects anxiety.
Sojeong Kim, a researcher from the University of Oregon, decided to study this. She focused on teens aged 12 to 15, as this is when sleep problems often start. The study used data from around 1,900 teens who had filled out questionnaires about their feelings of anxiety.
The results showed that teens who slept in on weekends had lower anxiety, but only if they slept for less than two additional hours. Teens who didn’t sleep in-or lost sleep on the weekend-reported higher anxiety levels. Those who slept in more than two additional hours had the most anxiety of all.
Kim believes that sleeping too much on weekends can cause “social jet lag”, just like the tiredness people feel when they travel across time zones. For now, she wants teens to know there can be benefits to sleeping in on the weekend. “Getting a little more sleep on weekends might help you feel less anxious,” she says. “But sleeping too much may make things worse.”
32. What does the author want to point out in paragraph 2?
A. It’s hard for teens to get enough sleep.
B. Too much homework is harmful to kids.
C. Most teens sleep for over eight hours.
D Adults enjoy sleeping late on workdays.
33. What were the teens in the study asked to do?
A. Finish a test paper. B. Answer some questions.
C. Write a diary entry. D. Go to bed early every day.
34. What did the study show about teens sleeping in over two additional hours on weekends?
A. They avoided “social jet lag”. B. They felt calm in the classroom.
C. They experienced higher anxiety. D. They reported a look of satisfaction.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. How Early Wake-ups Affect Teens B. The Best Time for Teens to Sleep
C. How Teens End Struggles at School D. Teens’ Catch-up Sleep on Weekends
【答案】32. A 33. B 34. C 35. D

Practical Ways to Support Younger Students
A teacher recently emailed me the following question: “With older students, you can guide them to informational resources and they can learn independently. ____36____?” This is a common and valuable question. But answering this question begins with considering the following tips.
·____37____. Young children learn best when they can explore ideas in different ways, not just through reading. While reading aloud is helpful, videos, images, and hands-on activities also give children the chance to learn. For example, you could set up walks where children look at photos, listen to recordings or watch short videos related to their questions.
·Bring in experts (专家) and plan field trips. Meeting experts and visiting places outside the classroom are great ways to learn. Before a visit, have children think of questions to ask. During the visit, support their curiosity, and afterward, discuss what they learned. ____38____.
·Allow children to lead their own learning. Adults often follow their own interests, so we should let children do the same.____39____. One way is to create a “Wonder Wall”, where children can write or tell you their questions. Set aside time during the day to review these questions. This shows that their ideas matter.
·Encourage group work. ____40____. When children work on the same topic or goal, learning together is more enjoyable and effective (有效的). Teachers can help by allowing time for small group work while others are working on independent tasks.
A. Why does it matter to them
B. Try different ways to explore ideas
C. Make the most of our school resources
D. Give children chances to learn alongside each other
E. These practices support thoughtful exploration of a topic
F. With my younger students, how can I guide them to study
G. Value children’s questions and let them explore what excites them

Clubs are a great way to find like-minded people in your high school community. If you’re unsure of which clubs you should join, here’s a list for you to explore.
Art History Club
This is a club where you can present historic artistic masterpieces and hold discussions on art history. You may also get to discuss and practice techniques (技艺) that art historians use to protect valuable pieces of art. The club organizes field trips to local museums and even plans international trips to the Louvre and Istanbul.
Photography Club
If you’re interested in taking photos or if you have a camera that you don’t know how to use, the photography club is for you. You could talk with team members about how to take a great photo. You might also enter a dark room where you can develop the photos you take.
Ceramics Club
If you’re into forming art from sticky earth, stone, and other materials, a ceramics club could be for you. At this club, you can discuss how pottery (陶器) has changed throughout history, from Ancient Greece to today. Ceramics is a fun group activity that allows you to connect with other students who share the same interest.
Literary Magazine Club
A literary magazine is a great way for students to explore both the arts and the press. Schools use these magazines to show students’ creative writing, poems, art, and other works, usually once a year. You’ll work with a team to select student work and encourage new ideas. Your work will help build a strong collection for the school magazine.

A. To raise awareness of mental health.
B. To encourage students to form a habit.
C. To prepare for a community festival.
D. To recognize the weakness of students.
25. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Attending school. B. Painting the tree blue.
C. Drawing a picture. D. Following a schedule.
26. What is Genevieve’s attitude toward the activity?
A. Doubtful. B. Worried.
C. Supportive. D. Uncertain.
27. Where is this text probably taken from?
A A student’s book. B. A school website.

D. Adults enjoy sleeping late on workdays.
