It’s June. The best time to eat lychees is coming again! Many people enjoy eating this sweet fruit. But have you found that it is hard to keep lychees fresh?
Lychees lose water quickly because of their special skin. It has many small holes that let water run out easily. Also, the inside is not connected to (连接) the skin. After picking, the skin can’t send water inside.
Like us, fruits breathe. Lychees breathe 3 times faster than other fruits! They use sugars and nutrients (营养), making them lose flavor (风味) and turn brown.
More importantly, they let out a bad gas that dries fruits fast.
Lychees are very easy to spoil, but scientists have a useful solution. They freeze fresh lychees at -35℃. This forms small ice crystals (冰晶) to protect cells, keeping flavor!
29. Why do lychees lose water quickly?
A. They grow in cold weather B. Their skin has small holes
C. They have thick skin D. People wash them too much
30. Which is NOT a reason why lychees go bad so fast?
A. Skin and fruit aren’t connected B. They let out drying gas
C. They grow only in June D. Fast breathing uses nutrients
31 Which of the following sentences has the SAME meaning as the underlined word spoil?
A. The grandparents spoil their grandchildren with too many toys.
B. The rain spoiled our plans for a picnic.
C. Don’t let mistakes spoil your life.
D. Milk will spoil quickly if left outside.
32. What does “this” refer to in the last paragraph?
A. Freezing fresh lychees at -35℃
B. Keeping lychees fresh
C. A useful solution
D. Scientist

①The Feynman Technique (费曼学习法) was developed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. It’s a study method that helps students learn by teaching others.
②The Feynman Technique has been one of the most effective (有效的) study methods for many years. For one thing, it helps students really understand something instead of just memorizing information. Plus, unlike traditional study methods like re-reading textbooks or reviewing notes, it pushes students to be more actively involved (参加) in the learning process.
③If you want to use the Feynman Technique to study better, follow these steps.
④To begin with, choose a topic you want to learn, including subtopics (子主题). If not, you’ll end up jumping between topics without developing a deeper understanding of any of them.
⑤The second step is the heart of the Feynman Technique: explaining the topic simply enough to be understood by a sixth-grade student. You need to help the child understand by using the simplest and clearest language. This step helps change indigestible topics into easy parts.
⑥Next, review your explanation and try to find any area where you felt that you couldn’t explain the topic simply. When possible, it can be very helpful to get advice from someone whose understanding is similar to that of a sixth-grader.
⑦The fourth step is to improve your explanation using the information collected from the third step. Finally, repeat the steps. The Feynman Technique works best with repetition, and that is why going through all the prior (先前的) steps just once is usually not enough to fully understand the topic.
37. Why is the Feynman Technique better than traditional study methods?
A. It saves students’ study time.
B. It allows students to study in groups.
C. It encourages students to do active learning.
D. It helps students memorize more information.
38. What does the underlined word “indigestible” mean?
A. Big. B. Small. C. Simple. D. Difficult.
39. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A. ①/②//③④⑤⑥⑦ B. ①②//③//④⑤⑥⑦
C. ①//②③//④⑤⑥⑦ D. ①②//③④⑤⑥//⑦
40. In which part of a magazine can we most probably find this passage?
A. Technology. B. Life. C. Culture. D. Education.

Come on in, Chef
In China, some young people now work as “on-demand chefs” (上门厨师). If families are too tired to cook, they can invite these chefs to their homes. This is healthier than ordering takeout (外卖).
Ding Yuqing, a 23-year-old college student, is a chef. She started by posting photos of her dishes online. To her surprise, many people sent her messages asking, “Can you cook for us?” Now she works near her school. Before cooking, she talks to clients (客户) about food they like. Then she asks them to buy ingredients (食材) themselves. After cooking, she cleans the kitchen and takes out the trash. For three dishes and one soup, she gets 80-100 yuan.
This is part of China’s on-demand economy (按需经济). It creates flexible (灵活的) jobs and has won people’s hearts by meeting their special needs. But this new work needs better laws and protection for workers.

Have you ever found yourself trying to be overly nice to someone, even if it didn’t come naturally? This often happens at work. People usually do this to avoid (避免) hurting others’ feelings or causing problems. However, it’s important to understand that being overly nice can sometimes lead to worse results.
One reason is that people who are too nice often don’t share their real thoughts and feelings. For example, when they should give honest feedback (反馈), they just say “good job” instead. Also, if someone doesn’t do well at work, being nice by not pointing out their mistakes can make things worse. That’s because they won’t have a chance to get better. What’s more, being overly nice can also lead to more anxiety (焦虑). When you avoid talking about problems, they don’t disappear-they stay hidden (隐藏的) and build up stress and worry. For example, if your friend keeps cutting you off when you talk, being too nice might make you afraid to ask them to stop. This silence then causes stress every time you chat, and the problem never goes away.
What should we do about this? First, have the courage to voice your feelings. If something troubles you, express it kindly. For example, share your thoughts in a caring way instead of staying silent. Second, give specific feedback (具体的反馈). Instead of saying “good job”, be specific. Try: “really liked how you organized the activities in this meeting.” Specific words help others understand what they did well and what they can keep doing in the future. Third, remember that different opinions are okay.
Discussing differences can make teams stronger. Being honest doesn’t mean being unkind—it means caring enough to help others grow and making sure everyone does their best.
In short, being honest and direct helps us to do better in relationships and teamwork. Sometimes, this matters more than being overly nice.
Summary
The passage tells us that being overly nice can cause ____55____. It may make people afraid to share real thoughts, stop others from getting better and cause anxiety to people. For example, people may give praise ____56____ specific feedback. To solve this, we should be brave to express feelings kindly, offer specific feedback and accept ____57____. The writer wants to encourage us to be honest and direct instead of being overly nice. He hopes we can balance kindness with honesty ____58____ relationships and teamwork.

My Happy Summer Holiday
My summer holiday was like a colorful kaleidoscope full of fun moments. One of the most meaningful experiences was visiting my grandparents in the countryside. I spent time with my grandparents helping them with farm work, such as feeding the chickens and watering the vegetables.
I also learned how to cook traditional dishes from my grandmother, which tasted delicious. We went to the nearby hill, where I saw breathtaking views and tried picking fruits. I felt incredibly happy and excited to be surrounded by nature and my loving family.
This holiday was meaningful because I learned about the importance of family and hard work. It was truly unforgettable.
