Four Top Places for Freshwater Diving
If you’re ready for an adventure and eager to explore our waterways, these four destinations will leave you breathless.
Crystal River, Florida
Located about one hour and a half north of Tampa, Crystal River is the only part of Florida where swimmers are monitored around manatees or sea cows. The area keeps a list of Special Use permit holders authorized to offer tours, rentals, and instruction within its limits. If you’re ready to dive into water and meet manatees for yourself, there’s no better place to start your adventure.
Clear Lake, Oregon
Located in Willamette National Forest in Central Oregon, the snow-fed Clear Lake has a year-round temperature of about 43 degrees Fahrenheit. True to its name, Clear Lake’s water allows people on its surface to see a surprising 200 feet below. Its coldness has preserved an underwater forest.
Cooper River, South Carolina
The Cooper River is a short, wide river that begins at Lake Moultrie and finally empties into Charleston Harbour. The water is cold and you can hardly see anything at 20 feet deep, making it a significant challenge even for experienced divers. It is legal here to search for and collect megalodon (巨齿鲨) teeth and whale fossils (化石) buried in the depths. Hopeful collectors need not only excellent diving skills but also a strong flashlight, a collection net, and a South Carolina Hobby License.
Blue Hole, New Mexico
On historic Route between Albuquerque and Amarillo, the Blue Hole of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, looks like a valuable blue stone in the desert. Its spring water refreshes itself every six hours and keeps a steady, year-round temperature of 62 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s a popular destination for swimmers and an excellent location for diving instructors to conduct training courses.
21. What makes Crystal River a unique diving destination in Florida?
A. It is the deepest river in Florida with clear water
B. It offers the cheapest diving tours in Florida.
C. It is close to Tampa and has the best diving conditions.
D. It is the only place in Florida to dive with manatees.
22. Why is diving in Cooper River considered challenging?
A. It requires special permission from local authorities.
B. Divers must handle extremely fast water currents.
C. Visibility is poor and water temperatures are low.
D. Collecting fossils demands advanced equipment.
23. What do the Clear Lake and the Blue Hole have in common?
A. They are located in national forests.
B They have exceptional water depth.
C. They have steady water temperatures year-round.
D. They are popular destinations for diving instructors.
B
Walking into Dryden Theater, I felt as if I had stepped into a time machine—the traditional, old-timey box office, tons of old-style movie posters on the walls. As everyone took their seats, an older gentleman who looked like he walked straight out of the 1920s spoke to all of the attendees.
Normally, Philip Carli is the pianist playing the live accompaniment for the films. However, The Barker has music synchronized (同步) with the film, so he was tasked with giving the audience a historical background of the film. Carli’s wide breadth of knowledge about the background of the film made it feel as if I was transported to the time and place of The Barker before the start of the film.
Earlier, films were played with live accompaniment, contained intertitles to add context, and some added sound bites. With the invention of synchronized sound, films slowly added talking dialogue in scenes occasionally. The Barker, released in 1928, is considered a “part-talkie”.
The film, which explores the lives of workers, is the first appearance of all of the main cast in a talking role. It was revolutionary for the technology but also for the actors. My film experience consists of mostly talkies (有声电影), so watching The Barker, I felt like I witnessed something brand new.
The experience was unlike any movie-going experience I have ever had. Since viewing films has gradually been reduced to streaming services, especially since the pandemic, this has increased the accessibility of film but we are stripped of a social experience to watch a movie — one that attending The Barker reminded me of. This allowed us to return to the movie-going adventure. Finally, everyone wanted big screens and surround sound rather than the tiny screens in bedrooms. More importantly, we were all able to interact with a piece of content alongside other people.
The experience brought back the pastime of going to the cinema — one that I think we should continue to enjoy. I say we take a page out of the 1920s playbook and return back to the cinema.
24. Who is Philip Carli?
A. A famous pianist in the film. B. A person introducing the music.
C. A staff member in a box office. D. A musician playing music live.
25. What can we know about The Barker?
A. Its main cast had dialogues.
B. It had an old-style movie poster.
C. It was a talkie about workers.
D It attracted quantities of audience.
26. What does the underlined word “stripped” probably mean in paragraph 5?
A. Disapproved. B. Dispossessed.
C. Transferred. D. Transformed.
27. What’s the purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce a brand new film.
B. To compare silent films and sound films.
C. To appeal for seeing films in the cinema.
D. To show the author’s preference for films.
C
Chocolate is a popular snack, but the price of it continues to rise. Cocoa from the cacao tree is the basic ingredient of chocolate; the trees thrive in warm and damp climates but are struggling due to increasing aridity — a slow but non-stop drying of the land. This issue extends to producers around the globe, threatening cocoa production and livelihoods of farmers.
Over the past 30 years, more than three-quarters of the Earth’s landmass has become drier. This dryness is a long-term transformation with disastrous consequences for ecosystems, agriculture, and livelihoods.
Aridity arises from human-driven factors, including greenhouse gas emissions, unsustainable land use, and natural resource degradation. Climate change, primarily caused by fossil fuel consumption and deforestation, increases global temperatures, accelerating evaporation (蒸发) and heightening water shortage — even in regions with moderate rainfall.
Unsustainable land use further intensifies aridity. Practices like deforestation and industrial farming degrade soils, removing them from protective vegetation and essential nutrients. In cocoa-producing regions, deforestation upsets local water cycles and wears away the topsoil. Degraded soils hold less water, deepening drought conditions.
Cocoa is just one crop at risk. Major agricultural zones are also affected. By 2100, up to 5 billion people may live in dry lands, stretching food systems to their limit and forcing migration. Aridity also threatens ecosystems. Wildlife struggles to adapt, and plant species suited to warm and damp conditions fail to survive. Economic losses are overwhelming — Africa saw a 12% GDP decline from 1990 to 2015 due to rising aridity. Governments face additional burdens from sandstorms, wildfires, and water shortages.
While aridity’s effects are severe, they are not entirely changeless. Restoring degraded lands, improving soil health, and adopting sustainable farming practices can help. Efficient water management, investment in renewable energy, and international cooperation are essential in battling aridity.
As chocolate prices hit record highs in early 2025 due to dry conditions in Africa, addressing aridity is a matter of urgency. Beyond saving chocolate, it’s about preserving the planet’s ability to sustain life.
28. What’s the main reason for the rising price of chocolate?
A. The decline of cocoa production. B. The high cost of basic ingredients.
C. The increasing demand for chocolate. D. The shortage of cocoa tree plantations.
29. What do we know about aridity?
A It is mainly caused by natural factors.
B. It only affects cocoa-producing regions.
C. It has a wide-ranging impact on various aspects.
D. It will disappear if sustainable land use is adopted.
30. Why is Africa’s GDP decline mentioned in paragraph 5?
A. To show aridity only causes economic losses in Africa.
B. To prove Africa is the most severely affected by aridity.
C. To criticize Africa lacks effective measures against aridity.
D. To illustrate aridity has a significant influence on economy.
31. Which of the following can fight against aridity?
A. Cutting off water supplies. B. Replacing renewable energy.
C Promoting soil conservation. D. Practicing industrial farming.
D
A new study gives all of us some extra motivation when it comes to getting outside and exercising: every day you manage to fit in an additional one-hour walk, you could be boosting your lifespan by an extra six hours. That’s the approximate benefit if you’ re currently in the 25 percent least active people in the US, according to fitness tracker data analyzed by a team led by researchers from Griffith University in Australia.
If you’ re in the top 25 percent, an extra walk isn’t as much of a boost—you’ve already received most of the health benefits from exercise— but the study also highlights and quantifies some of the key benefits of an active life.“If all individuals were as active as the top 25 percent of the population, Americans over the age of 40 could live an extra 5.3 years on average,” write the researchers in their published paper. “It can be any type of exercise to reach that top quartile (四分位数) but would roughly be the equivalent of just about three hours of walking per day.”
The team analyzed wearable activity data from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES) in the US, which recruits 5,000 volunteers a year. To calculate how changes in activity levels can influence mortality (死亡) risk, researchers referenced the NHANES results against a life-table model (where mortality rates are tracked at specific age points) and previous research into exercise and lifespan. In this particular study, data on 824 participants were excluded because they didn’t wear the trackers for long enough.
Suggesting that exercise leads to a longer life is nothing new, but quantifying and simplifying the benefits can grab attention— whether it’s five minutes a day to reduce blood pressure or nine seconds a week to grow muscle. Now there’s a new target to aim for: an extra hour’s walk a day. If you find that too discouraging a prospect, remember that any amount of exercise makes a difference to health and well- being.
32. What does the new study find?
A. Walking can cure some diseases effectively.
B. Perhaps daily walking can extend our lifespan.
C. Increasing exercise mostly benefits active people.
D. The less active people must exercise an hour a day.
33. How much daily walking is roughly needed to reach the top 25% active group?
A. Nine seconds. B. One hour. C. Three hours. D. Five hours.
34. What is the function of Paragraph 3?
A. Giving the examples. B. Analyzing the data.
C. Predicting the effect. D. Explaining the method.
35. Why does the author mention “nine seconds a week to grow muscle” in the last paragraph?
A. To compare three different types of exercise.
B. To emphasize the flexibility in setting exercise goals.
C. To demonstrate the precision of modern exercise research.
D. To highlight the advantage of walking over strength training.

The last lesson of the day was PE class. Mary was skipping rope on the playground, surrounded by several classmates watching her. It was her best sport. The rope spun (旋转) quickly as she jumped. When time was up, the counter showed 201 skips. Smiling, Mary flashed a victory sign to the crowd. Just then, the school bell rang-class was over. Mary packed up her skipping rope. It was time to give her answer to Ms. White.
That morning, Ms. White had asked her if she would be willing to take charge of the class bulletin board (板报) for the upcoming competition. The student who usually handled it, Lily, was out sick, and someone needed to step in. Mary was shocked that Ms. White had chosen her. She responded nervously, insisting that her handwriting was terrible. But Ms. White reassured her, saying she believed in her ability and encouraged her to think it over and let her know her decision after school.
Now, walking toward the teachers’ office, Mary felt nervous. The thought of her messy handwriting being put up on the wall for everyone to see made her stomach turn. She had already made up her mind to say no. With that decision in mind, she quickened her pace and ran across the sports ground.
Mary was about to pass the sandpit (沙坑) when someone nearby caught her attention. It was Tom from a different class. In her mind, Tom had never been good at long jump, but he was practicing it. Curious, she went over to ask what he was doing. Tom explained that no one else had signed up for the long jump event, and without a participant, their class wouldn't get any points in the school sports meeting. So when the headteacher asked if anyone would give it a try, he volunteered. Mary reminded him that he wasn't good at it, but Tom simply said that he knew that-and that it wasn't about being the best, but about trying and doing his part for the class. Then he went back to practicing. What a similar issue they both faced!
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Mary stood there, watching Tom practicing patiently and hard.

B. They have exceptional water depth.
C. They have steady water temperatures year-round.
D. They are popular destinations for diving instructors.
D 22. C 23. C

D. It attracted quantities of audience.
D 25. A 26. B 27. C
根据第二段中“Normally, Philip Carli is pianist playing the live accompaniment for the films.(通常,Philip Carli是为电影现场伴奏的钢琴家)”可知,Philip Carli是为电影现场伴奏的音乐家。
根据第四段中“The film, which explores the lives of workers, is the first appearance of all of the main cast in a talking role.(这部电影探讨了工人们的生活,是所有主要演员首次以发声角色亮相的作品)”可知,该电影的主要演员有对白。故选A。
根据第五段中“Since viewing films has gradually been reduced to streaming services, especially since the pandemic, this has increased the accessibility of film but we are(由于观影逐渐减少到流媒体服务,尤其是在疫情之后,这增加了观影的便利性,但我们)”以及后文“a social experience to watch a movie — one that attending The Barker reminded me of.(一种看电影的社交体验——观看《The Barker》让我想起了这种体验)”可知,后文提到在电影院观看《The Barker》让作者想起了看电影的社交体验,说明流媒体服务虽然增加了观影的便利性,但却剥夺了人们共同观影的社交体验。 A.
通读全文,尤其是根据最后一段“The experience brought back the pastime of going to the cinema — one that I think we should continue to enjoy. I say we take a page out of the 1920s playbook and return back to the cinema.(这次经历让我想起了去电影院看电影的消遣方式——我认为我们应该继续享受这种方式。我说我们应该借鉴20世纪20年代的做法,回到电影院)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者在德莱顿影院观看电影《The Barker》的独特体验,并呼吁人们重回电影院观影。可推知,文章的目的是呼吁人们去电影院看电影。故选C。
A. It is mainly caused by natural factors.
C. Promoting soil conservation. D. Practicing industrial farming.
A 29. C 30. D 31. C
根据文章第一段内容“… the trees thrive in warm and damp climates but are struggling due to increasing aridity—a slow but non-stop drying of the land. This issue extends to producers around the globe, threatening cocoa production and livelihoods of farmers.(……可可树在温暖潮湿的气候中生长旺盛,但由于土地逐渐变得干旱,它们的生长状况正面临困境。这一问题波及全球的生产者,威胁着可可的产量以及农民的生计。)”可知,土地逐渐变得干旱使得巧克力的原料来源可可树的生长状况面临困境,从而导致可可的产量减少,最终导致巧克力价格上涨。故选A项。
根据文章第二段内容“This dryness is a long-term transformation with disastrous consequences for ecosystems, agriculture, and livelihoods.(这种干旱是一种长期的转变,对生态系统、农业和生计造成灾难性后果。)”
根据文章第五段内容“Economic losses are overwhelming—Africa saw a 12%GDP decline from 1990 to 2015 due to rising aridity. (经济损失极为严重——自1990年至2015年,非洲的国内生产总值下降了 12%,原因是干旱加剧。)”可知,导致非洲的国内生产总值下降的原因之一是干旱加剧,由此推知,作者以非洲为例是为了说明干旱对经济的显著影响。故选D项。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第六段内容“Restoring degraded lands, improving soil health, and adopting sustainable farming practices can help. Efficient water management, investment in renewable energy, and international cooperation are essential in battling aridity.(恢复退化的土地、改善土壤质量以及采用可持续的耕作方式都有助于缓解干旱问题。有效的水资源管理、对可再生能源的投资以及国际间的合作对于对抗干旱至关重要。)”可知,缓解或对抗干旱问题的方式有恢复退化的土地,改善土壤质量,采用可持续的耕作方式,进行有效的水资源管理,对可再生能源投资以及国际合作。因此可知,选项C“Promoting soil conservation.(促进土壤保护。)”是对抗干旱的措施。故选C项。

根据文章第一段的关键信息“every day you manage to fit in an additional one-hour walk, you could be boosting your lifespan by an extra six hours (如果你每天能额外挤出一小时散步,你可能会让自己的寿命延长六个小时)”可知,新研究发现每天散步可能有助于延长寿命。
根据文章第二段中“‘It can be any type of exercise to reach that top quartile (四分位数) but would roughly be the equivalent of just about three hours of walking per day.’(要达到最活跃的四分之一人群的水平,可以是任何类型的锻炼,但大致相当于每天散步三小时。)”
根据文章第三段中“The team analyzed wearable activity data from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES) in the US, which recruits 5,000 volunteers a year. To calculate how changes in activity levels can influence mortality (死亡) risk, researchers referenced the NHANES results against a life-table model (where mortality rates are tracked at specific age points) and previous research into exercise and lifespan.(该研究团队分析了来自美国国家健康和营养调查(NHANES)的可穿戴设备活动数据,该调查每年招募5000名志愿者。为了计算活动水平的变化如何影响死亡风险,研究人员将NHANES的结果与生命表模型(在特定年龄点追踪死亡率)以及之前关于运动和寿命的研究进行了对照。)”可知,第三段详细解释了研究团队是如何进行研究的,包括数据来源、研究方法和参考的模型等。因此,第三段的作用是解释研究方法。故选D。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段的关键信息“Suggesting that exercise leads to a longer life is nothing new, but quantifying and simplifying the benefits can grab attention— whether it’s five minutes a day to reduce blood pressure or nine seconds a week to grow muscle. Now there’s a new target to aim for: an extra hour’s walk a day. If you find that too discouraging a prospect, remember that any amount of exercise makes a difference to health and well-being.”(虽然运动能延长寿命的说法并不新鲜,但量化和简化这些益处能引起人们的注意——无论是每天五分钟降血压,还是每周九秒增肌。 B“To emphasize the flexibility in setting exercise goals.(为了强调设定锻炼目标的灵活性)”符合题意。
The 80/20 rule is the principle that 20% of what you do results in 80% of your outcomes. ___36___ Because so much of your output is determined by a relatively small amount of what you do each day, focusing on the most productive tasks will result in greater output.
You can’t use the 80/20 rule to your advantage unless you know what it is you want to focus on. How do you cut out all the background noise and zero in on that 20% that’s going to make an extraordinary difference in your life? ___37___
Your purpose is the foundation of everything in your life or in your business. ___38___ It’s that important. Your purpose could be something like having more time with your family, the freedom to live life on your terms, or the money to travel the world. In business, your purpose is your company vision. It’s the reason you started the business in the first place.
___39___ Write down five things you could start doing today to help you get to live your purpose. Then prioritize them by how fast they will get you to your goal. The top item — the most meaningful — is your first priority.
You’re not done yet. Priorities are nice, but they’re not enough to get you over the finish line. You need to create SMART goals: steps you can take that are specific, measurable, Achievable, Realistic and set within a Time Frame. ___40___ These specific action items are the real 20% of the 80/20 rule — the things you’ll spend 20% of your time doing that will generate the best results.
A. Now it’s time to get more specific.
B. It explains why focusing on key tasks matters.
C. Rank your purposes by the level of importance.
D. You can apply the principle to your personal goals.
E. Then you need to hold yourself accountable for them.
F. Follow this equation: Purpose + Priority = Productivity.
G. If you don’t know your purpose, you can’t create goals or take action.
B 37. F 38. G 39. A 40. E
上文“The 80/20 rule is the principle that 20% of what you do results in 80% of your outcomes.(80/20法则是指你做的20%的事情会产生80%的结果这一原则。)” 下文“Because so much of your output is determined by a relatively small amount of what you do each day, focusing on the most productive tasks will result in greater output.(因为你每天所做的事情中,有一小部分决定了你的大部分产出,所以专注于最有成效的任务将带来更大的产出。)”
上文“You can’t use the 80/20 rule to your advantage unless you know what it is you want to focus on. How do you cut out all the background noise and zero in on that 20% that’s going to make an extraordinary difference in your life?(除非你知道自己想要关注什么,否则你无法利用80/20法则来为自己谋利。
上文提到“Your purpose is the foundation of everything in your life or in your business.(你的目标是你生活或事业中一切的基础。)”“目标是基础”,后文用“It’s that important(它如此重要)”强调其价值。G选项(若不清楚目标,则无法制定计划或行动)通过反面论证强化目标的重要性,与上下文形成递进,故选G。
【39题详解】
下文“Write down five things you could start doing today to help you get to live your purpose. Then prioritize them by how fast they will get you to your goal. The top item—the most meaningful—is your first priority.(写下你今天可以开始做的五件事情,以帮助你实现人生目标。然后根据它们能让你多快实现目标来对它们进行排序。最上面的一项——也是最有意义的一项——是你的首要任务。)”具体描述了操作步骤,其核心是将 “目标”转化为具体、有优先级的行动。A项(现在是时候更具体一些了)中的“get more specific(更具体)”恰好对应下文“写具体事项、排序定优先的操作,承接了前文“明确目标”的内容,自然引出“确定优先事项”的具体环节,符合语境。故选A。
上文“You need to create SMART goals: steps you can take that are specific, measurable, Achievable, Realistic and set within a Time Frame.(你需要设定SMART目标,即具体、可衡量、可实现、现实且在时间框架内设定的步骤。)” 下文“These specific action items are the real 20% of the 80/20 rule—the things you’ll spend 20% of your time doing that will generate the best results.(这些具体的行动项目是80/20法则中真正的20%,即你会花20%的时间去做但会产生最好结果的事情。)”

注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Mary stood there, watching Tom practicing patiently and hard.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With determination, Mary stepped into the teachers’ office.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mary stood there, watching Tom practicing patiently and hard. Every time he jumped, he would stumble a little, but he never stopped. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and adjusted his posture, then tried again. Mary thought about how Tom was willing to take on something he wasn’t good at just to help his class. She felt a little ashamed of herself—she was scared of showing her bad handwriting, but what if she could try her best like Tom? Maybe the bulletin board wouldn’t be perfect, but she could put her heart into it. The nervous feeling in her stomach slowly faded, and a new sense of determination took its place. She turned around and headed straight for the teachers’ office, her steps no longer hesitant.
With determination, Mary stepped into the teachers’ office. Ms. White was sitting at her desk, grading papers. When she saw Mary, she looked up and smiled, “Have you made your decision?” Mary took a deep breath and nodded firmly, “Yes, Ms. White. I’d like to take charge of the class bulletin board.” She then added, “My handwriting isn’t good, but I’ll practice and do my best to make it nice. I want to help our class, just like Tom is helping his.” Ms. White’s eyes lit up with pride. She stood up and patted Mary’s shoulder, “That’s what I wanted to hear, Mary. Bravery to try is more important than being perfect. I’ll be right here to help you.” Mary left the office with a big smile on her face, already looking forward to starting her new task.
