If you’re a sports fan, you may be familiar with the emotional rollercoaster (过山车) that comes with sports watching. Whether you’re part of a noisy crowd in a stadium, or just watching at home on TV, it’s easy caught up in the highs and the lows when you celebrate or feel sorry for your favourite team or athlete. Those feelings are so strong, in fact, that a study from Croatia, published in PubMed, showed that the emotional stress during a football match increased the risk of a cardiovascular (心血管的) incident. But can watching sports be good for you too?
The evidence suggests that people who watch live sporting events experience greater wellbeing (健康) than those who don’t. A study published in Public Health in the UK, found sports spectators felt less lonely and had higher scores for life satisfaction. Lead author Helen Keys said in a press release, “Watching live sport of all types provides many opportunities for social interaction and this helps to form group identity and belonging.” She says this then reduces loneliness and boosts wellbeing.
But, if for any reason you aren’t keen on going to live events, don’t worry! Watching sports on TV or on the internet may also have positive effects, according to a 2021 study by Tsuji and colleagues. They found that older adults who watched sports were less likely to have depressive symptoms than those who didn’t. On top of that, the sports spectators tended to have richer social networks than non-spectators. The authors suggest that the social networks you gain through watching sports may lower the risk of depressive symptoms.
So, the cheers at a live sports event or even casual small talk with friends about your favourite team can bring a sense of camaraderie (情谊) and may reduce loneliness and depression. It seems the health benefits of sports are not limited to physical activity through participation in them, but that we can make gains in our general wellbeing through social bonding.

C.It is more beneficial for younger adults. D.It has no effect on mental health.

You may not know a lot of people when you start high school. Maybe your friends from middle school are going to a different high school. Even if you know other freshmen (新生), you still feel nervous that you don’t know any upperclassmen (高年级的学生). How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces?
Most high schools hold a freshman orientation before school actually starts. It is helpful not only because you learn your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but you can also get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces.
When you talk to people at orientation, you’ll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They’re all new to the school and don’t know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with your classmates can help you develop friendships.
The work in high school is something freshmen are probably anxious about. The work in high school builds on what you learned in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it’s a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
High school also has more after-school activities than middle school did, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
Middle school taught you the basics of academic knowledge, time management, and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance. High school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible.
51.According to the passage, when they come to the school on the first day freshmen usually feel ________.
A.proud B.nervous C.excited D.afraid
52.What are freshmen probably worried about?
A.The learning task. B.The training in the freshman orientation.
C.The ability to make friends. D.The relationship with teachers.
53.What can be a proper approach when freshmen have difficulties in dealing with some work?
A.Attend the Orientation Day. B.Turn to your teachers.
C.Concern your classmates. D.Take part in after-school activities.
54.After-school activities mainly help students ________.
A.build up healthy bodies B.develop friendships
C.develop their interests D.improve their learning ability
55.The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.what you’ll learn in high school

C.the difference between middle school and high school

On April 2021, 24-year-old Jibin Madathil packed a bag with a few clothes and other necessities and left his home in search of a job. But he was certain that a full-time job would never work for him as he wanted to explore new things. So, he decided to spend many days at different destinations, work somewhere for not more than a month, earn (挣钱) money and travel to another place.
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve been into travelling. Nearly hills, rivers and tourist places were the destinations at first,” says Jibin, a hotel management graduate.“ But when I became a teenager, an all- India trip was always my dream.”
When finding jobs at different locations became a task and his wallet felt lighter, Jibin decided to start a food stall (摊位) on his bike. He had a kerosene stove (煤油炉) and a few utensils (器具) along with some rice, bread and tea to travel on his way. He bought some more things to serve noodles, bread and tea on his way. The kitchen was set up on his bike’s top box where water and kerosene were stored. Everything felt simple as he had previous experience in a kitchen.
In some areas, there were hardly any food stalls. Jibin began his business in these places and it was an immediate success. He earned 500 — 600 rupees per day from his two- wheeler food stall.
“More than the income (收入) from the stall, it was due to the kindness of people that I set out on my dream journey. While some offered me work, others provided me with a space to sleep,” he says.
While usual riders cover hundreds of kilometers a day, Jibin finds a destination and stays there for a few days, getting to know its people and culture. This also helps him find small jobs too.
Jibin has plans to visit foreign countries on his two- wheeler. He is preparing himself and his bike for this big journey now. “Whatever happens, I’ll have my kerosene stove and utensils ready, which gives me the confidence of reaching my destination,” he says.

76.Why didn’t Jibin settle for a full- time job? (no more than 10 words)
77.What does the underlined part in paragraph 3 mean? (no more than 5 words)

* Try speaking to the people you’ re sitting next to in class. As they’ re close by, it is important to chat to them first.
* Have courage to speak to everyone in your class. You tend to stay with that class through the remaining school years there, so it helps if you get on with them.
* If you don’t have many friends in your form class, try and make new friends in your subject lessons. You can also chat to them at lunchtime and after school.
* Join a lunchtime or afterschool club. You’ll get to meet kids of all years that way.
* Ask your teacher to pair you with other students.
* Use your celebrity status (名人身份)! Since you’ re the new person, you’ ll have gained celebrity status, which you can use for a couple of weeks. Talk to people, remember to smile, be open and friendly, listen to what others have to say and make them feel important.

53.What can be a proper approach when freshmen have difficulties in dealing with some work?
A.Attend the Orientation Day. B.Turn to your teachers.
