M:So you think the other things, like soup and fruits are okay?
W:Yeah,that's about right.
M:Is there anything you'd like to change about the dining hall?
W:Yes,the hours.Sometimes it's a real rush for me to get there before 6:30 pm

Not expecting the award,I ran towards the starting line.As
soon as the starting gun fired, the other runners dashed forward
like arrows.I watched as they quickly left me behind. Before
long,I was breathing heavily,my legs feeling like lead. But the
purpose of this race kept me going.I pushed myself harder,
ignoring the pain and tiredness.Along the way,I saw some
runners taking breaks or even giving up,but I was determined to
finish.Finally,I crossed the finishing line.I was exhausted,but
a sense of achievement filled me.
Shortly after the race, the award ceremony began. The host
announced the awards one by one. When it came to the special
award for the over-200-pound group,I heard my name called
out.I couldn't believe my ears!I walked up to the stage, still
not quite sure what was happening. As I received the medal, the
applause from the audience was thunderous.I looked out at the
crowd, feeling a mix of pride and gratitude.Later,I learnt that
there were only two runners in my weight category.Even though
I might not have been the fastest,I had shown determination.
This race had not only given me a new view on running but also
increased my confidence.I left the event with a new-found love
for running and a stronger belief in myself.

根据上文“Despite the icy wind(尽管
寒风凛例)”及下文“the students were inspired to complete
the project(学生受到激励完成了项目)”可知,学生对任

上句“Working outside..was tough.”与下句“the
students were inspired to complete the project'”构成转折关
系,应用however.。
根据下文“Never in
my life did I think I can build a house for the homeless,Mr
Riddle,and we're just kids!”
“Never in..just kinds!”

根据下文“this task,they developed a deep
understanding of the issue that came from both head

指代前面提到的The Temple of Heaven,在句子中作make
a variety of是固定短语,
“Craftsmen used..variety of tools and materials”
“some of..were rare and precious'”是一个非限制性定语从

The
excavation and preservation of the Terracotta Army",
“protect...from”是固定
济效益和文化交流,下文说“we must also be aware of the
potential threats such as pollution and over-tourism”,前后
根据the long

By the middle of the last decade,I had been studying Indian
Butterflies for over 20 years. However,I had never observed
butterflies at high altitudes in the trans-Himalayan habitat. So,in
2015,I decided to visit Ladakh to search for butterflies.
My first "butterflying"visit to Ladakh was in June 2016,
then in July of the same year, followed by another visit in August
2018.For these visits,I charted out a two-week schedule on each
occasion.I covered some of the well-known locations.
Each habitat we explored had its unique mix of butterfly
species. In alpine meadows, countless white and yellow butterflies
from the Yellows and Whites family fluttered(翩翩飞舞)about..
More than once,I'd spot a white or yellow butterfly flying across
the meadow, and chase after it,only to find myself out of breath
in Ladakh's thin air while the butterfly gracefully flew away.
Once,I chased a Butler's Dwarf butterfly for 15 minutes,
managing only a few photos before it disappeared.
Over the course of multiple visits to Ladakh for butterfly
observation,I've had the remarkable opportunity to photograph
more than 40 "lifers"-species I encountered for the very first
time. These discoveries have added valuable knowledge to the field
and led to the publication of two research papers in the "Journal of
Threatened Taxa”.
In addition to this,I partnered with the Snow Leopard
Conservancy to create a small booklet showcasing 50 butterfly
species found in Ladakh, with the goal of raising awareness and
promoting butterfly watching as a unique and sustainable activity.
This initiative aims to inspire both locals and tourists to explore the
rich biodiversity of the region, while fostering a greater
appreciation for Ladakh's delicate ecosystems.

People use laughter to connect and bond with others. It's how
we tell friends that we find their jokes funny,or how kids in a park
show that they are having fun.Laughter is so important to humans,
even if they belong to different cultures or speak different
languages. What about animals?Scientists are studying if there is a
connection between animals'laughing and playing.
Sasha Winkler, from the University of California,Los
Angeles(UCLA),studies biological anthropology(人类学),
including the study of animal behaviour. She noticed that the small
monkeys she worked with, liked to play together by chasing each
other.While having fun together,they made panting(喘气的)
sounds, almost like they were out of breath, which reminded
Winkler of their quiet laughter. This made Winkler wonder whether
other animals did so while they were playing.
To find out whether other animals laugh and play,Winkler
teamed up with another scientist named Greg Bryant,a professor
and vice chair in the Department of Communication at UCLA.
Together, they found and read dozens of reports written by other
scientists who study animals.Winkler and Bryant looked for any
mentions in any animal of sound signaling like the panting of the
monkeys during their playing.
In April 2021,Winkler and Bryant published their findings in
a science journal.Through their research,they identified 65

understand animals better but it could also help us understand how
humans develop or change over time.Next, they will carry on

The sounds of rain, birdsong,or the wind rustling leaves in
the forest are all part of the music of nature. These sounds can fire
emotions and promote calm. That's why tracks of nature have been
used in so many songs like“Blackbird”.
Now,Sounds Right,an initiative from the Museum for the
United Nations is cooperating with Spotify and other streaming
platforms to recognise nature as a musician. This means that nature
can be paid royalties()that can be made use of when it
comes to environmental causes and conservation. This new
initiative allows artists who use environmental sounds to credit
"Nature"as a featured artist and share the royalties.
"It's a way of saying to artists,'We all use sounds like
seagulls,waves and wind.Why don't we pay nature a royalty?'"

David Bowie."Hopefully,it'll be a river,or a torrent,or a flood
of royalties-and then what we do is distribute that among groups

future.”
Other artists who contributed songs for the project include
Tom Walker and Ellie Goulding,MO,and alternative music star

The United Nations has set 21 March in 2025 as the first
World Day for Glaciers(冰川).36.
The aim is to
encourage everyone to protect glaciers. They are crucial for
sustaining life on Earth now and for future generations.
A glacier is made up of ice and snow that slowly flows over
land.Over many years,as snow continues to pile up,it eventually
becomes a large mass of snow that starts transforming into
glacier ice.
Glaciers have shaped mountains and valleys throughout
Earth's history. They are still flowing and shaping landscapes in
many places today.37.
When glaciers melt, they let out nutrients into lakes, rivers
and oceans.38.
As glaciers melt,they also provide
habitats for plants and animals near streams. This shows that
glaciers indirectly affect wildlife and fishing areas.
39.
About 10 per cent of the world's land has
around 200,000 glaciers, which hold about 70 per cent of Earth's
fresh water,according to Carbon Brief,a UK-based website
specialising in the science and policy of climate change. In the
Himalayas,Karakoram and Hindu Kush mountains, millions of
people and animals depend on the 90,000 glaciers for water. These
glaciers form the headwaters of the Indus,Ganges and
Brahmaputra rivers.
Climate change is having a severe impact on glaciers
worldwide.40.
For example,Colombia has seen 90 per
cent of its glacier area disappear since the mid-19th century,as
shown in a 2025 UN report on global water development. The
report also warns that with a temperature increase of 1.5℃to4℃,
glaciers could lose between 26 to 41 per cent of their mass from
2015 levels by the year 2100.
A.There are various glaciers in the world.
B.However, glaciers don't just affect the land.
C.Many glaciers have disappeared completely
D.Therefore, glaciers could lead to various problems.
E.Glaciers provide important water for both people and
animals.
F.These nutrients can help some crucial plants like
phytoplankton grow.
G.It has also declared 2025 the International Year of Glaciers'

Oliver opened the next page of his book in the light of the

Oliver was a bookworm. He read books whenever he could.
His family was small, and so was the cottage where he lived.
Grandma Agnes and his little sister,Eve,made Oliver's family.
His parents passed away.
