she had got promoted 3.to make contributions to the household 层级二 能力提升 A 【语篇解读】 本文是一篇议论文。 根据第二段中“When it comes to writing...But each average job candidate is an enthusiast for public welfare”可知,提到“leader”和“enthusiast”是为了强调求职者在撰写简历时夸大事实的现象。 故选A。 故选A。 根据最后一段中“So a process designed to uncover the truth about job applicants would run a lot more smoothly if firms were also honest about themselves.” 根据第二段中的“I kept an eye on him ...stood there with his hand on it,guarding it ...hogging (独占)it.” 根据第三段中的“he made the final sacrifice several days ago.I came to pick up his uniform, which is all I have of him”可知,那位男士的儿子几天前牺牲了,他的制服是那位男士仅有的关于儿子的东西了。 根据最后一段中的“I met with horrible things in the job at times”可知,工作中,作者有时会遇到不好的事情,即她的工作有时是令人不愉快的。再结合最后一段中的“But I've also seen a lot of amazing ...to be connected with other people like this.” 根据第一段中的“We worked to eat and avoid being eaten.” 根据第二段中的“The idea that we are...not postmodern, invention.” 根据第三段中的“His point was that employees differ in the degree to which they identify with their work role.” 故选A。 根据最后一段中的“They are,it seems, almost possessed by work and are the type of workaholics(工作狂) most companies long for.” 2.independence Start with the obvious wrongdoers:job applicants. When it comes to writing the resume (简历),they tend to massage (美化) reality into the most appealing shape possible.Everyone beyond a certain level of experience is a transformational leader personally responsible for generating millions income;the world economy would be about 15 times bigger than it actually is if all such claims were true. The average British spends four and a half hours a day watching TV and online videos. But each average job candidate is an enthusiast for public welfare, using their spare time only for worthy purposes, like volunteering in soup kitchens. But the tendency to stretch the truth infects companies as well as applicants. The typical firm will write a job description that invariably describes the work environment as fast-paced and innovative, and then lays out a set of improbable requirements for the “ideal candidate”,someone who almost by definition does not exist. Sometimes, the requirements include an ability to go back and change the course of history. Too few firms offer an accurate account of what a position actually involves in their job previews, which are supposed to give prospective employees a genuine sense of the negatives and positives of the job,as well as a clear idea of the company's corporate culture. One effective strategy is to lay out in text or video, what a typical day in the role would look like. Such honesty can be its own reward.Research has long suggested that realistic job previews lead to lower turnover and higher employee satisfaction.A paper in 2011 by David Eamest of Towson University and his co-authors concluded that favourable perceptions of the organisation's honesty are the best explanation for why. So a process designed to uncover the truth about job applicants would run a lot more smoothly if firms were also honest about themselves. 1.Why are “leader” and “enthusiast” mentioned in paragraph 2? A.To present a rule. B.To clarify a fact. C.To make a comparison. D.To explain a phenomenon. 2.What does the underlined word “stretch”in paragraph 3 mean? A.Overstate. B.Overturn. C.Overlook. D.Overestimate. 3.What are job previews expected to be like in paragraph 4? A.They show a position as it is. B.They are made either in text or video. C.They are favorable for bigger firms. D.They mainly contain negatives of a job. 4.What does the text mainly talk about? A.Pains and gains of employees. B.How to get the lying out of hiring. C.How to be more appealing in hiring. D.A wrestle between applicants and companies. B About 14 years ago,I was living in New York City, working as a performer.Low pay,no job security, and no benefits.I really needed a job.One day,I met a kind and smiling lady who asked the question that changed my life forever:“Girl, have you ever considered being a flight attendant?” I had!Months later,I finished training and started the job.In late September,I was working on a flight, and a passenger came on with a bag.He opened the overhead bin(柜)and put the bag in it.I kept an eye on him and the bag as he closed the bin and stood there with his hand on it,guarding it,which was very confusing. That overhead bin is shared space, but he was hogging(独占)it.My original thought was to stop him.But I let it go.“Just smile and be kind.If someone needs the space,I'll deal with it later,”I thought. Nearly 10 minutes passing,I thought I should say something. So I asked,“Are you travelling for business or pleasure?”And he said,“Neither.I came to New York because my son worked here as a policeman, and he made the final sacrifice several days ago.I came to pick up his uniform, which is all I have of him. It's in the bag in the overhead bin.” Then I remembered why I was there.Everybody has a story.People fly for a reason.I don't know what the story is,but for that little piece of time,I'm part of it and I have an impact on their experience. And yeah,I met with horrible things in the job at times. But I've also seen a lot of amazing things, like the Northern Lights and fireworks from the air.And I'm grateful that my job enables me to be part of something bigger than myself and to be connected with other people like this. 5.Why did the author notice the man? A.He appeared upset. B.He behaved strangely. C.He refused to sit down. D.He misplaced his baggage. 6.What can be learned about the man's son? A.He lost his life recently. B.He held his uniform dear. C.He wanted to be a policeman. D.He had some unfinished business. 7.How does the author find her job? A.Amazing and respected. B.Significant but hard to deal with. C.Rewarding and adventurous. D.Meaningful but unpleasant sometimes. 8.Where is the text probably taken from? A.A flight report. B.An appreciation letter. C.A personal diary. D.An in-flight magazine. C We spend a third of our adult lives working and another big part preparing for our careers.Historically, work was rarely seen as a source of meaning and purpose.During the vast majority of our 300,000-year human evolution (进化),work was in fact pretty simple. We worked to eat and avoid being eaten.Meaning and purpose came from somewhere else, like spirituality, art, religion,or science. The idea that we are meant to find meaning at work or to find work meaningful is a rather modern,if not postmodern, invention.Only one hundred years ago it would have been frequent to see a worker who returned from a typical workday at a factory complain to their folks that they didn't earn much or they were worn out and rare to see that they complained they didn't experience a sense of purpose. Similarly, the idea that we ought to bring our “whole self” to work is a pretty novel and recent form of career advice. Its origins can be traced to William Kahn who invented the concept of employee engagement 30 years ago.His point was that employees differ in the degree to which they identify with their work role. Some see work as merely a job and clock in and out every day, without bringing their whole self to work.Work is just not a core aspect of their identity, and their concept of themselves is built on other social categories like mother, husband,American, captain of the local soccer team, etc. Others, however, have very low psychological distance with their work role, seeing it as essentially intertwined (交融的) with who they are. They don't just come to work, they are fully devoted to their careers and have a spiritual type of connection with their jobs. They are,it seems, almost possessed by work and are the type of workaholics (工作狂) most companies long for. 9.Why did we spend much of our adult lives working? A.To prepare for future careers. B.To find the water sources. C.To help us evolve. D.To make us survive. 10.Why did the writer mention the worker a century ago? A.To help us find meaning at work. B.To prove that the idea was modern. C.To show us the bad old days. D.To complain about the experience. 11.Which of the following might William Kahn agree with? A.Employees have different understandings about their work role. B.Every employee must bring their whole self to work. C.To be devoted to work is a pretty novel idea. D.Workers' core identity is built on art categories. 12.What kind of employees do most companies favour? A.Those who see work as a job. B.Those who identify with their work role. C.Those who are fully devoted to their work. D.Those who possess experience.
