China, one of the world's most populous and powerful nations, is a magnet for tourists thanks to its booming economy, vast military, status as a manufacturing powerhouse, and cutting-edge technology. The country's iconic attractions like Beijing's Great Wall and Forbidden City are major draws for tourists.
With its deep historical roots, stunning natural scenery, and dynamic culture, not to mention the delectable Chinese cuisine, China continues to draw visitors from all corners of the globe. Riyan Ruparelia, a content creator known as Bearded Travels, took to TikTok to share his travel experiences in Chongqing, one of China's major central cities. Chongqing is celebrated for its rugged terrain and has earned the nickname 'Mountain City', nestled near the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers.
In his TikTok video, Riyan exclaimed: "China is living in the future so here's everything that blew my mind on my most recent three-day trip to Chongqing.
"Starting off with the hotels, the majority of which have smart rooms where you can control pretty much everything from the click of a button, including this huge projector screen and they literally have smart toilets everywhere."
He stayed at the ISEYA Panoramic Hotel, where room service is delivered by "an entire robot", which he was amazed by.
The tourist was amazed by the city's "insane" engineering feats, noting that Chongqing was "built on a mountain" and has a population of over 30 million people.
Riyan remarked: "You can be in a main square with shops and restaurants all around you and then realise you're on the 22nd floor and if that's not enough, the engineers actually built an entire train track into a residential building which then proceeds to wrap around a mountain, and believe it or not the train doesn't make any noise whatsoever."
The travel content creator was also impressed by the prevalence of electric cars in China, many of which were unknown brands that offered "super luxurious" features and "absolutely incredible performance".
Riyan continued: "And if you're in two minds you can get a bike slash car but what blew my mind most was the skyline at night time. This city lights up and it feels like you're in some sort of sci-fi movie.
"The drone shows every Saturday are next level so if you want a taste of the future then make sure to pay China a visit because it will really surprise you."
According to travel experts at China Discovery, tourists flock to Chongqing mainly for the Yangtze River cruise which offers breathtaking views of the majestic Three Gorges Dam.
Besides the inspiring landscape, Chongqing is renowned for its local cuisine, most notably, the spicy hot pot.
The clip on TikTok by Riyan has racked more than up over 80 comments. One user said: "Omg I can't get my head over this! This is crazy! I do want to visit China!"

We just got back from a week-long trip through New Mexico where we traveled through desert landscapes, hiked up mountains, and walked through dry creek beds. We experienced nature and wildlife that was vastly distinct from what I’ve seen before.
We’ve lived in Atlanta for 25 years so it was quite a change from our “city in a forest”. My husband and I were joined by our adult son who now lives in San Diego and is a little more familiar with the west. We like to visit national parks and explore interesting ecosystems.
In New Mexico, everything seemed striking and amazing. Starting in Albuquerque, we took a tram up the Sandia Peak in the Sandia Mountains, where we had fantastic views as we watched parasailers float off into the unending sky. We then drove to Abiquiu, the town where artist Georgia O’Keeffe was so inspired. We stayed at a lovely home pretty much in the middle of nowhere. First, we noticed the breathtaking setting. Then we noticed the ants: billions of tiny ants were marching all over the outside of the property. They were carrying off a few of the native bees that had fallen to the ground near the house.
Once we were awakened in the middle of the night by howling that was both strange and musical. We were told about the coyotes (郊狼) that share the area, so we weren’t surprised when we woke up the next morning to some pretty impressive paw prints right outside the back door. On our final morning hike before heading south in the state, we even spotted a large snake curled up on the path, enjoying the warm morning sun. We stayed far out of its way but certainly watched our steps a little more carefully.
We talked about sustainability throughout the trip. In the past several decades, there’s been so much noticeable change in our travel adventures. That will be great to keep the skies cleaner and save energy. And the coyotes and snakes can be left to dance and enjoy in peace.

I decided to go to Edinburgh to visit my friend Annabelle who was studying at the University of Edinburgh.
I really didn’t know what to expect. I had heard that it was a fun place, but when I arrived I had no idea how beautiful the city was! We went downtown to Princes Street and it was absolutely exceptional. I loved the old cobbled streets and the castle that sits up on the hill in the middle of the city. There are a few original eighteenth-century buildings there too. At one end of the street there are the sunken gardens, where you can relax or have a picnic.
Honestly, I just can’t figure out how people manage to get things done, with lots of great restaurants and little hang-outs right near the university. One place I really loved was this downstairs restaurant called Central. It’s a really modern style place with massive brown leather couches where you can just relax and catch up with friends and study.
One of the highlights of my trip was getting to see a rugby match at the Murrayfield Stadium, I watched Scotland upset South Africa! Scotland was the underdog, but somehow they managed to win in their home town. It was a bit cold at the stadium, but there were tons of excitement and energy and it was enough to keep us warm.
Drinking and the pub life is a huge part of the culture in Edinburgh. They have great pubs, where you can have a beer, coffee or food. Some of my favourites were the Bow Bar, which is all made of wood and won a prize as the best Drinker’s Pub in Britain a few years ago, and Greyfriars Bobby, which has lots of students and is great for meeting people. I didn’t get to try the mutton, but I thought I would save it for next time
5.What surprised me when I first arrived in Edinburgh?
A.Its wide-spread reputation. B.Its time-honored history.
C.Its depressed atmosphere. D.Its beautiful cityscape.
6.Which is the author’s favorite restaurant?
A.The Murrayfield Stadium. B.Greyfriars Bobby.
C.The Bow Bar D.Central.
7.What does the underlined word “underdog” mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Dark horse. B.Outsider. C.Favorite. D.Black sheep.
8.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Annabelle and I. B.My Unforgettable Life.
C.My First Trip to Edinburgh. D.Cultural Exploration of Edinburgh.

Passage 3
When you hear the word “snowbird”, you likely think “retiree”. For years, before remote work became more widespread, the only people who could relocate for the winter were those no longer tied to an in-person office — usually the over-65s who had already left their jobs. 1 . They are trading their cold, often depressing winters for sunshine, better mental health, and enhanced wellness by booking extended stays in warmer places. This shift in travel habits has led to the rise of a new trend: glowbirding.
2 . Those who practice glowbirding are not just looking to escape the cold; they are also seeking ways to improve their mental health during the darkest days of the year. Rather than just spending time in sunny destinations, glowbirds often engage in physical activities that boost their emotional well-being. “What we’re seeing now is an increase in interest amongst younger travelers who are also tired of the cold, ” says Connor Smith, vice president of masterbrand strategy and awareness of IHG Hotels and Resorts. “ 3 ; it’s also a way to manage seasonal affective disorder (SAD) . ”
SAD is a type of depression that typically occurs during the fall and winter months, especially in regions where the days are shorter and colder. 4 . The idea is to spend the 4-5 months when SAD is the strongest in places where the weather is warmer and sunnier, helping to maintain emotional stability.
If the early sunsets and colder weather are starting to make you moody, glowbirding may be the perfect solution. 5 ?
A.But how do you follow the trend
B.First of all, glowbirding attracts young travelers a lot
C.This traveling isn’t just about finding warmer weather
D.However, today, more young travelers are following this trend
E.Glowbirding, similar to traditional snowbirding, adds a wellness focus
F.For those affected, glowbirding offers a way to escape the emotional lows of winter
G.Rather than suffering the winter blues, why not join younger travelers seeking the sun

A.It’s beneficial for us to take an adventure tour.

4.What is the best title for this passage?

根据第二段“We like to visit national parks and explore interesting ecosystems. (我们喜欢参观国家公园,探索有趣的生态系统)”以及第一段“We experienced nature and wildlife that was vastly distinct from what I’ve seen before. (我们体验到的自然和野生动物,与我以往所见过的截然不同)”中描述他们在新墨西哥州经历了与以往不同的自然和野生动物,可推断出这家人的旅行偏好是寻求多样化的自然环境。故选D项。
2.推理判断题。根据第三段“We stayed at a lovely home pretty much in the middle of nowhere. (我们住在一个可爱的小房子里,那里几乎与世隔绝)”以及第四段描述他们在夜间听到郊狼的嚎叫、次日清晨发现爪印、并在小径上遇到晒太阳的蛇等经历,这些野生动物能够自由活动并与人类住所如此接近,暗示了当地环境受人类影响较小,保持了较为原始的自然状态。故选B项。
3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“We talked about sustainability throughout the trip. In the past several decades, there’s been so much noticeable change in our travel adventures. 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“We just got back from a weeklong trip through New Mexico where we traveled through desert landscapes, hiked up mountains, and walked through dry creek beds. 故选A项。
【答案】5.D 6.D 7.A 8.C
根据第二段中的“I had heard that it was a fun place, but when I arrived I had no idea how beautiful the city was! ( 我听说这是一个有趣的地方,但当我到达时,我不知道这个城市是多么美丽!)”可知,作者到达爱丁堡时,对这座城市的美丽感到惊讶。故选D项。
6.细节理解题。根据第三段中“One place I really loved was this downstairs restaurant called Central. (我特别喜欢的一个地方是楼下的Central餐厅。)”可知,作者非常喜欢一个叫Central 的餐厅。故选D项。
7.词句猜测题。根据第四段划线单词句中“Scotland was the …, but somehow they managed to win in their home town. ( 苏格兰队……,但他们还是在家乡赢了球。)”可知,but 表示转折,说明苏格兰队原本不被看好却赢得了比赛。“underdog”在这里指不被看好但最终获胜的一方,也就是“黑马”(Dark horse),A选项Dark horse“黑马”意思一致。故选A项。
所以最合适的标题是“My First Trip to Edinburgh (我的第一次爱丁堡之旅)”。
Some of my favourites were the Bow Bar, which is all made of wood and won a prize as the best Drinker’s Pub in Britain a few years ago, and Greyfriars Bobby, which has lots of students and is great for meeting people.
【句式分析】 这个句子是包含两个并列分句的复合句,通过连词 "and" 连接,which is all made of wood and won a prize as the best Drinker’s Pub in Britain a few years ago修饰the Bow Bar,which has lots of students and is great for meeting people修饰Greyfriars Bobby。
1.根据上文“For years, before remote work became more widespread, the only people who could relocate for the winter were those no longer tied to an in-person office—usually the over-65s who had already left their jobs.(多年来,在远程工作尚未广泛普及之前,只有那些不再受限于办公室坐班的人 —— 通常是 65 岁以上已经离职的人 —— 才能在冬季迁移到其他地方)” 可知,过去多是退休人员冬季换地方居住,而现在情况有变化,D选项 “然而,如今越来越多的年轻旅行者也在追随这一趋势” 符合语境,与前文形成转折,说明现在年轻人也开始这样做,引出 “发光鸟式旅行” 话题,故选D。
2.根据下文“Those who practice glowbirding are not just looking to escape the cold; they are also seeking ways to improve their mental health during the darkest days of the year.(进行发光鸟式旅行的人不仅仅是为了躲避寒冷;他们还在寻找在一年中最黑暗的日子里改善心理健康的方法。)”
3.根据上文“Rather than just spending time in sunny destinations, glowbirds often engage in physical activities that boost their emotional well-being.(发光鸟族不仅仅是在阳光充足的目的地消磨时间,他们还经常参加能提升情绪健康的体育活动)” 以及 “it's also a way to manage seasonal affective disorder (SAD) (这也是应对季节性情感障碍(SAD)的一种方式)” 可知,此处应说明 发光鸟式旅行 不只是为找温暖天气,C选项 “这种旅行不仅仅是为了寻找更温暖的天气” 符合语境,与后文 “also” 构成递进关系,说明旅行目的,故选C。
4.根据上文“SAD is a type of depression that typically occurs during the fall and winter months, especially in regions where the days are shorter and colder.
