7AU1 Reading: Welcome to Class 1, Grade 7!

 

Teaching Objectives

 - Language Comprehension: Students can understand the main content of the text, including Millie's self - introduction and the introductions of her classmates Simon, Sandy, and Daniel.

- Language Analysis: Students can identify key information such as names, ages, appearances, personalities, and hobbies from the text.

- Language Application: Students can use the information from the text to complete related exercises (matching, true/false, filling in the blanks) and write sentences about themselves or classmates following a given structure.

Teaching Procedures

1. Pre - reading (8 minutes)

- Brainstorming: Ask students the two questions in the textbook:

- "What do you want to tell your new classmates about yourself?"

- "What do you know about your new classmates?"

- Let students think and share their ideas. For example, students may say they want to tell classmates about their hobbies, or they know classmates' favorite subjects.

- Vocabulary Preview: Present some key vocabulary from the text (e.g., "friendly", "full of energy", "polite", "smart", "be good at") using pictures or simple definitions. Ask students to repeat and try to use them in simple sentences.

 

2. While - reading (20 minutes)

 - Global Reading:

- Play the audio of the text. Ask students to listen carefully and answer: "Who are introduced in the text?" (Millie, Simon, Sandy, Daniel)

- Let students read the text quickly by themselves and summarize the main idea: Millie introduces herself and her new classmates at Sunshine Middle School.

- Detailed Reading:

- Divide the text into parts: Millie's self - introduction, Simon's introduction, Sandy's introduction, Daniel's introduction.

- For each part, ask detailed questions:

- About Millie: "How old is Millie? What's her hobby?" (She is 12 years old. She loves reading.)

- About Simon: "What does Simon look like? What is he good at?" (He is tall. He is good at sport, especially football.)

- About Sandy: "What does Sandy look like? What's her hobby?" (She is tall and slim with long hair. She likes music and can play the piano well.)

- About Daniel: "What does Daniel look like? What is he interested in?" (He is not tall and wears glasses. He is interested in science.)

- Ask students to find the answers in the text and underline the relevant sentences.

 

3. Post - reading (10 minutes)

 - Exercise A (Matching):

- Explain the task: Match the new students with their hobbies.

- Let students work individually first, then check answers in pairs. Finally, the teacher checks the answers with the whole class. (1 - c; 2 - a; 3 - b; 4 - d)

- Exercise B (True or False):

- Explain the task: Read the sentences and write "T" for true or "F" for false. Correct the false ones.

- Students work individually. Then, invite students to share their answers and corrections.
